He wanted to be on a team like that because then he knew that if he was on the court it's because he earned his way there. He doesn't care for handouts.

Happy Birthday to RT!
That's quite a birthday cake from Inch. Careful, everyone. Don't bite the caboose!
Unless you would like for you mouth to be tender.
Don't mind me. I feel a little loco, this morning.
Cheers.
Mornig all: A medium JR Regular and an oatmeal rasin cookie please.
JR: There are two main things I like about the Peco trunouts (HO or N)..1) the spring mechanism is very positive, and makes hand throwing a real operating possibility without any modifications. 2) The switch motors clip underneath the turnout, rather than lying as a strange lump of plastic alongside it. (Surface mount is possible by means of an adaptor) Atlas under table mounts, I find are not very convenient, Peco is. Hope this helps.

Mornin, I'll have the breakfast bar n coffee Zoe.
Went n got some pellets last night incase the roads were bad and the weather guesser's right on how nasty it was going to be today. They were forecast 7" or 8", we got 3", west n north of us got a little more, 7" to 10". The stiff east wind we had is from the west n light, so not much problem with drifting.
RYAN,, you'll probably have the money saved n the tooth fixed by the time congress aggress and the money sent.
RT,, HAPPY BURTHEN DAY, Mother sent ya in a cake.
PC,, congrads on your son and his teams win. Understand your feelings on your daughter's long hair. 2 of our girls did it, then came home n told us.
PHILRUNT, when #3 sons house burnt last year, they called the cable company n told them and they said they'd send some one out. Next day here the guy come, and went in n got the box. When they ask him why, the guy said, he'd worked for them 4 years and still didn't know why they'd want it.
QUESTION,, what's every bodies SUPER BOWL plans. Our's Deb's brother n them are coming out n we're fixing tacos and some other things. Mother was watching the news and they had a camel picking the winner. Guess a guy writes the name of each team on his hand, then holds cookies, whichever cookies the camel eats, is the winner. He picked the GIANTS, hey guess the camel has been correct 80% in the last 8 or 9 years.

Good Morning All,
30 and freezing rain predicted today. Just in time for my Florida based commuting mechanic to fly in. He always brings bad weather with him. I'll have a regular and one of Bills' retirement donuts please. Spent time sorting out the museum gift shop layout power (a massive collection of junker AHM and Bachman F's and Erie builts) so I can test them and rebuuild enough to use. Also spent time on the latest kit bashed factory making vents and the elevator roof house. To answer an old question, the factories are all kit bashed - I simply don't have the skill (or patience) yet to start from scratch.
Der - how do the Peco track and turnouts compare to the Atlas stuff in N? We're looking at redoing some of our loop at the museum and wonder if one brand is better than the other. (and you other dark siders can chime in as well please)
Gotta cut it short again and get to it - times a wastin....... CUL, J.R.
Morning all Day off today but back to work tomorrow . Anyway don't feel a year older already feel old enough lol. Thanks to those who sent wishes. I was looking at flips post of dates so had to look at mine man I didn't realize I'm going on 3 years as a member here lol.
Miss some of the old ones guess just got to busy which is a shame.
Glad to see flip is starting to post more and more again . I try to get in but I myself end up doing a lot or working late and just don't feel like messing with putor.
Morning all!
Well, the weather guessers were WAY off! Instead of 5-12 inches of snow with a 1/4" of ice on top, we got 2" of snow with a very thin coat of ice. It's not bad out there at all. It's not even all that cold. I'm good with this!
Got a way busy weekend in store and a full day of work today.
Oh, and my daughter has decided to cut her hair short! She's had it long since birth, but I guess she's getting tierd of getting all those compliments on her beautiful blond locks! (Said with tongue firmly planted in cheek!) http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/dcp_3380.jpg
Oh well, later all!
Good Morning from Tipton IN !
Thanks for all the kind words yesterday about my retirement !

Thats right, put it all on Cox's tab! And there is a little place across Duvall St from the Holiday Inn Conch, or Conchaday Inn or whatever it was in Key West that served the most incredible Key Lime pie in the WORLD!!! MAN!- that was some good pie. But I'd bet the pie here in the Diner is at least as good!
Went to a friend's house today to give him a hand in repairing a 24' section of privacy fence that went down in the wind the other night, the posts are broken off below ground level, so I took my East German Army shovel, figuring it would be experienced in frozen earth removal. Now I'm thinking it must be the Germans with the experience, we picked and shoveled and hammered and cussed for over an hour, moved less than one shovel full of dirt when all was said and done. Of course, there was more cussing than any of the rest of that stuff, so I didn't feel too bad. Told him we could give it another try when the ground thaws.
LS&W- The electric company might not charge you for electricity not used during a power failure, but right before I came here I read about Time Warner Cable charging a woman in Wisconsin 2grand for cable equipment she lost- when a tornado smoked her house! Of course, when it was brought to the cable co's attention by the news reporters, they said they would write it off, but that was after she was told by the manager to turn it in to her insurance because there was nothing he could do. The only part of the story that surprised me was 2,000 bucks for cable stuff. Must have had lots of gold plated connectors.
Inch53- Thanks for clearing that up- So it's Paul's weather this time. JimRC backs you up on that too! So PaulB- I ask again- what did I ever do to you? I thought we were Great Laker buddies and all! I will say that so far, we have only a dusting and a slight breeze.
Silverspike- Other than just "for old times sake" is there any incentive for folks to return to NO? Have they repaired the infrastructure well enough to survive another hurricane, even a moderate one? Guess the re-building isn't as hot a story as Brittany Spears breaking a nail, so we don't hear much about what is going on now. 24 hours news channels. Don't ya just love 'em?
There for a second, I thought I needed to send off for the Capt Whizbang Secret Decoder Ring for flip's post with all of the names and numbers, but then I read Ed's post and understood what it was! But just in case it IS a secret code- Flip-The chair is against the wall-repeat- The chair is against the wall.
der5997- When folks call in and ask why their lights are out or their cable doesn't work or their water heater is down, I (usually) take it in stride, been here too long to get to uptight, but sometimes I wonder just where all of the common sense went to. "Common" sense is anything but. Like jumbo shrimp, military intelligence, and feminine logic. No offense to any of our beautiful ladies, heroic vets, or....uhh.....crustaceans, I think, that might be perusing this missive. I really have a lot of fun here, so I can't complain.
On the way home from Portland today, took a pic of a GATX SD40-2 coupled up with that D&RGW SD40-2T I saw the other day, it was near dusk so I don't know how good it will come out, but I mentioned to Amyjo again that I wanted to get some pics posted SOMEWHERE on the internet. She said we'd try to get around to it this weekend.
All of you take care, and we will see you Sun night!

Annoying isn't it? people talk at you and you can't say anything.
Congrats on retirement Bill. isn't

I had the same issue most of the day yesterday and part of the day today. I noticed the forums have been juggled a bit and a new one added, so I figured it was just that messing me up for a few.
Good evening Diners: No mrr today, except to lay that Peco RH turnout on the mainline to see where it will look best, and where also working it manually will avoid the most yet-to-be-planted trees. The turnout is what Peco describes as "Large Radius." The info sheet is silent on the relation of that radius to everybody else's turnout or frog #s, but it sure looks good as a mainline switch. I've used their "Medium Radius" where I could on the rest of the mainline, but there are some "Short", and I know those are #5s. Anyway, I won't get to do any of that work until I've finished ballasting, and then GLEAMING the newly ballasted sections.
From the sound of the weather most others are reporting, I'll just be quietly thankful for a good day here. I was able to get out to walk this evening for the first nighttime walk in I don't know how long. And I know it won't last beyond tomorrow afternoon.

TiptonBill: Congratulations on the retirement. Enjoy! "The old order changes, giving place to new..." sad to see a family tradition like that end, but that's life too, I guess.
NorthernPhil: Dealing with that kind of "customer" must surely try your patience.
Jerry:
Shouldn't be to hard to scratch up...gotta have a couple of old cars on blocks and a dish in the yard...
Flip: Thanks for the research on start dates in the Coffee Shop. I can't remember when I followed Fergie's advice and called in. Let me know if you find it.
Jeff:
The weather got pretty nasty around noon today. A lightning strike took out the power lines about two miles from here. They were fixed in a couple of hours. The cable (internet included) was out for nearly five hours.
Terry:
Chuck and Kathy: Good to see you in again! I guess our layouts would be really something if we could fit in all the features we wanted! Tough deciding what not to have 'though, isn't it. I've found that each layout has had features the others didn't, or couldn't have.
Earlier night tonight, with any luck. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing (Flip's Deb, etc.)

No, WE spell it right!
Ryan & Jim- PC and I tied for 3 in a row
Give me a little more time, I can do better!
ED- The thread is still in my favorite list. Only problem is to get to the page I want.
Question- If over 65 and retired, you are now a ROF. What are you when you have to go back to work? Just an O.F.???
I'm tired. Day off, went grocery shopping in a.m. Deb not well, again. Did dishes and mowed the lawn. Sun felt great. Now time to hit the bed. Work early tomorrow.
Night all. Prayers and regards,
Fossil Flip.
Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful day down here in Paradise. Didn't make it up to 90º, but got close to it, probably around 88º in mid afternoon. I know that many of you are having "2 dog nights" up there, but I had a "2 nap day" down here. Plus a few errands in the morning, and shooting pool with my father-in-law in the afternoon. It was a tough day.
No model railroading again today. Actually it's been a few weeks since I even ran any trains. But tomorrow is the first day of the Spring Layout Party at TrainBoard, so I guess I'll get motivated starting tomorrow.
Chuck (sunsetbeachry) - nice to hear from you again. Keep us abreast of how the planning comes along for the new layout. Shrinking it a bit may be a good thing.
Bill (Tidler) - congrats on reaching retirement. Hope this is something you've been looking forward to. Any specific plans for retirement?
Flip - nice work digging back through the records. Man, that's a long time to keep a thread (and its successors) alive.
Not much else to comment on this evening.
Hasta mañana,
Ed
