Evening all, well I finished the ice house (Walther's #933-3049). There are a few things I could have done a little better, but it looks ok.
I stopped at the LHS and picked up the Walther's catalog, 2 gondolas, and a Walther's modular 3-in-1 building set (marked down $10). After opening the 3-in-1 I need to go back and pick up the loading dock and extended foundation for this building. My intentions are to build a Dairy plant, not much of a dairy without loading docks.
21 degrees with 23 Kts west winds, snow the next 3 days. Wahoo!

An End-of-Train Device (EOTD) is not always used. It depends on a few things. If the train is working within yard limits, then an EOTD is not required, nor is it required when the train will never exceed 30 mph. Some territories require EOTDs, and others don't. We need one when we run on the Northeast Corridor, but not when we go to Sparrows Point or the Dundulk Marine Terminal since they are in yard limits, but still a good few miles. The rear needs to be marked in some way, by light or flag when not using an EOTD.
When doubling a grade, the first cut will usually be marked by a flag.
I can't quote the exact rules for an EOTD, I leave my NORAC rule book at work, but I'll check more into that for you.

Good to see Scott's made it in again, and T
Side note for those who've been contributing helpful comments on my layout designs - the odd thing is, the last design (with the yard) I posted was an earlier one I'd come up with for using my bedroom in the current apartment. Of course, my bed would be located under the yard area, so I could forget about sitting up in bed... But hey, for the sake of MRR'ing, right?

Taking Mother out for supper tonight as it is our 34th Anniversary. WOW. does time fly.
I made some calls this morning from work again, and found a supplier for "Structolite" so I will pick up a bag of it after work. Cannot find Gysolite or Vermiculite around here though. But it sounds like this will work fine for terra forming.
Tunnel liners and portals being produced as fast as I can get at them and turning out very good. Would be happier if they wer installed already, but you shouldn't wish your life away. Just enjoy the journey.
Have a great day guys and gals, and keep your socks dry.

Those colors were the same colors they used on the new "green" demo loco a short while ago.
Afternoon folks!
What's on the lunch special for today?
How about a Hot Roast Beef Po-Boy, or sub, or grinder, for all you guys who have never been to N'Awlins! And a side of fries too!
Thanks Chloe!
Flip and Dick, I know what a pocket door is! Two houses in Uptown New Orleans that I rented years ago had them, and they were very popular in older homes like those built around the turn of the century and beyond. I was offering Jim the idea of a bi-fold door as another option as it has little impact on messing up the wall, just change out a door from unscrewing one set of hinges and screwing in the other.
Sue - Sounds like a fun party event. Making wreaths with Noble Fir, we used Fraser Fir from North Carolina. I used to work for a tree service company while in high school and starting with Thanksgiving week we would sell Christmas trees and make wreaths, garland, etc... and that is fun stuff. We would even wire tie-in fresh kumquats, cranberries, and holly on the wreaths and they smelled great for weeks!
Welcome back Scott! And thanks for the detailed answers on the EOTD, see, picking your brain isn't that bad after all huh!

Hey Scott I have a simple request.
Could you please show us what the time table (or something like that) looks like?
btw does it look something like this?
ModelTrainLover wrote:Hey Scott I have a simple request. Could you please show us what the time table (or something like that) looks like?btw does it look something like this?
The Norfolk Southern Rule Book and Time Table is larger than that, but yeah, it's similar. I leave mine at work in my locker, so I don't have a picture. The Amtrak one more resembles that. I'll have to bring my rule book home one day so that I can snag a picture of all my gear.
It's thick...Includes NORAC rules, NS rules, Hazmat info, system timetable, district time table, and more...It's pretty big. And I had to go through all of it.
my Maine Central one just goes over yard capassity, grade crossings, and the like but no hazmatt stuff or, Norac rules. it's thin too.
BTW have you been in the cab of one of the new NS locos?
and I have honors today!
Here is an old Southern Railroad Timetable that I have:

Good afternoon everyone......been Christmas shopping with the wife, just about completed the job she says, and I break out into song, "Joy to the World" and get a bag slapped at me...LOL
In the 30's here today, and another cold wave sweeps through, temps down to 12F tomorrow night and Sunday followed by a snow storm Sunday night.
JERRY: Not a bad icea on those Ebay grab bags, with your experience I am sure they will be running better than new soon, and what a price !!!! You can then turn them on EBay and have quite a little business going , Eh? As for the 0-8-0, I decided to run it on the wife's New England Christmas Village display. Setting that up tomorrow.
RYAN: Sorry about the pocket door, I should have realized that you knew what they were, with your experience with carpentry... Making wreaths sure brings back memories of when we used to walk in the woods, pick some Princess Pine, Laurel, red berries, pine cones and red pine boughs, then make our Christmas wreaths for the doors and over the mantels, ahhh, the good old days.
SCOTT: Good to hear from you, and happy to see you are doing fine on the job. That was very interesting to hear about the EOTD's , I never knew what they were all about except that they give a radio signal as to location of the end of the train, but I never knew when they use them or where.
JOHNBOY: Happy to see you have our front door up there in those north woods, keep us informed. How far north of the border to you live in Saskatchawan?
CAPE JIM: Is it your BD today ????????????

Hi all,
Haven't been really checking up on what everyones up to these days. Most of you must have thought I fell off planet or something. I appreiciate your concern. Just hangin' in there and doing OK. The kids are adjusting better than I am and my youngest absolutely loves it out at UMass, Amhearst.
Still haven't done much with trains so far. Some of the club members really want me to get back into the scenery and show up for more than a business meeting. The first Christmas without April is only weeks away, hope we can deal with it as well as Thanksgiving in New Jersey with her family. Myself and the kids as well as her family can look at her passing and give thanks to all the wonderful memories and 3 great children she left us with. I can't believe how much everyone misses her laugh- It would overtake a room or the entire floor of Sears where she was a manager. She could tell the gen. manager to sh** in his hat and then laugh to get her point accross to defend the employees and never a repercussion. Try that and see what happens....
Been keeping myself quite busy with getting lost in my work. Seems to help. I hope soon that I can get lost in the scenery at the club... it sure needs it. Thankfully, a few very good craftsman have pitched in and taken on some projects. One in particular (a real perfectionist, has jumped into the scenery and even his first attempts are unbelivable.
This is Bob doing some finishing touches to one of his first areas, a retired elec engineer of coarse... the lighting makes it appear too green.
Of coarse that's my B&O passenger running by- Sure, I'm out playing while others are working. Actually we just staged the shot.
Now I'm in the middle of installing an engine in my Dodge van, 3 Dodge/Chrysler techs have tried to diag the trouble. All indications are that everything is normal. Didn't think I was slipping after all my 30 years of working on these trucks. My initial, but didn't want to beleive it, was that I have a cracked cylinder head at the valve seats. This is the only thing that would case these problems in drivability. So now the weather has changed, has been 25-30 degrees and I can't tie up anyones shop for this type of project- so this is a driveway job. Fun, fun, fun... Have a real good warranteed motor but pulling apart a New England machine is just too much. I really did get spoiled from all the years working on those cars in California. So now I'm taking a break from the cold, comtemplating just how much the "gas wrench" is going to have to do.
Well back into the cold, stop by later.

Evenin' folks!
Took a quick break from workin on the railroad......and just dropin in to get a quick hot chai tea to go and be on my way again....
Catch you all later,
Good evening !
I was sitting at my desk today in my nice warm office thinking of Fergie bouncing across the briny and wondering what I had to complain about with the weather. About the only tilting I get is if I lean back in my chair. Not warm enough, just turn up the heat! My hat is off to him and all his crew! Seems to me I saw a post where he picked up a nice brass CPR Northern. CP certainly had some beautiful steamers. Just hope my grandfather( the real CNCharlie) can't hear that! I had the good fortune this past September to follow CP's Hudson #2816 for 60 miles all the way from Thief River Falls,MN to the border. The tracks are mostly only 50-100 feet from the highway and I was the only person following it. Just set the cruise, opened the window and listened to the wonderful sounds. Won't forget that soon.
If I seem a little obsessed with the weather that is just part of being a Winnipegger. It was in the paper today that most of Canada can expect the coldest winter in 15 years. Our apologies in advance to all those south of the border for any of it that seeps over the border. We have no control! The border is porous!
I was running my SW8 last night that has QSI sound. I hit F9 and all of a sudden no throttle response! Oh no, now what! Turns out it is meant to do that, why I have no idea. Why would I want to be able to hear the sound increase with the throttle but have no movement? They don't have transmissions. These decoders are somewhat like a cell phone. I often think the engineers who build them just like to show off and give you more features than you will ever use just because they can.
Time to go now as one of our favourite TV shows is on soon.
