Here's what I've been up to so far this week:

This is the plan. And yes, there is no seperate yard lead. Yes, there is one. Since the yard begins the line, and there's a seperate switch just past it to either the branchline or the Aiken yard, I'e decided I can cut out a seperate yard lead and use that main instead (and this way I can use my right hand switches, thus not having to buy any, lol). I'll just pretend that that factory isn there when I'm switching the yard. also, the A/D and main will serve as the turn-around at the "end" of the line too. There's also three other industries between the fireworks factory and the end of the line, "off-stage". I've also swapped the RIP/servcing area and engine house on the plan so that i can add a forest between the yard and the industries/town easier, lol.

And here's the engine house. Still have to add downspouts and roof vents, but it's pretty much done, lol. Was a learning experience, first pikestuff kit I've ever built, looked difficult, but is really easy, lol:

Here's a bird's eye view of it:

this is the RIP area. I painted my GP9 for the AAT, but will still get a new shell and all, because the cab will not seat properly on the body. BTW, that track leading off the layout edge will be the track to the Aiken yard, lol:

Here's where the feed dealer will be (siding w/ the CSX boxcar). You can see the small town in the distance, and the fireworks factory.

Plastic toy co. in the foreground, Cracker Distribution in the background:

Here's the town. It will get a few more stores, and I'll replace eric's emporium:

Looking down Main Street. Stores on one side, fireworks factory on the other, garage/gas station at the end, across the srossing street down there that will run the layout's length, lol:

Hopefuly going to glue the foam down today, then secure the track, adding what roadbed I have left, lol.

Yea I like the WC maroon. I think Floquil might of changed the pigment a little bit. Did your Maroon kind of have a pinkish purplish color when it was applied in very light coats, or if you got any in your fingers. In your pictures it seems more of a brownish, compare to mine, which has a redish tint. Maybe it's just my eyes.

Change the color on your monitor until it looks the same, then you have nothing to worry about! Tongue

I just bought a bunch of details for my C424. I got two pilots, Alco side mount bell, K3 horn, CP ditch lights, and Alco lift rings.

So now I'm all set. Just need to save up for Tsunami to throw in there!

Thanks

In one pic I have, it looks completely purple, but that was just the flash. I think it's brown, maybe a little dark though.

ns3010, great scenery!

It looks more like Rock Island maroon than WC maroon... I don't think a yard lead is all that necessary on a shortline, especially a branch. How many trains are going to be running past? If it's less than 5 a day then the yard crew doesn't need a lead, although each situation is different.

NS, the scenery looks good as well as I can see it. Maybe if you took the diarama outside then the photos would come out better...

Actually, there are "none" going down that way, but there will be one train (the daily way frieght) that will use the main and A/D track there to turn (it will act like the passing siding at the end of the line, lol). there's about three trains though: morning frieght from Aiken yard, wayfrieght that leaves about 1, and an evening frieght out to the Aiken yard.

This branch's power will probably be a GP7 (there's a nice one at M.B. Klien for $50), GP35, and a U23B. I'm probably still going to ebay my GP30, and I'm saving the GP9 and H-15-44 for Aiken Branch #1 (which I think I can get the go-ahead to build when this layout gets mostly done). Then I also have an excuse to get a GP38, lol.

I started a tiny area of scenery on  my layout and it looks good. I also came down the shore and found $100 in my drawer. Im prob. goin to buy a factory for my layout and save the rest. :)

Today I made a new layout video, following WRS Train 404 over the layout from White River Junction, VT to West Formanek, NH. I didn't get any shots of the new yard, because there's no scenery there. This video is all finished areas, with nothing in the frame except for the layout. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXyBlWnXAu4

Enjoy!

Thanks! The layout is roughly 12' by 22' and is kidney shaped. I have an old obsolete trackplan somewhere, someday I'll try to draw up a new one.

Looks good so far Joe.

Well, I will probably set the 4x8 alone for a few months or so and work on a simple 2x4 that's been inspired by a plan in 102 trackplans. I'll probably get most, if not all, of what I need for Christmas, and then just roll from there, see if I can get a spot in the bonus room to work, where it's heated, lol.

Tyler, as I said in the Comment in your video, I think that is one of your best!

Joes, keep up the good work.

I also might be getting an Athearn SD38 with DCC and sound, another super detailing project if I get that unit.

hey guys! starting a new layout today! got a track plan laid out. set in the southwest in the late 70s - early 80s. its n scale, and its going to be 14x14(1 foot wide, but in an "L" configuration, which is 14 feet in each direction.) anyway, i'm building it in sections and was wondering if u guys had some tips for blending the scenery blend from module to module. thanx guys!

Well, I'm going to keep rolling with my 4x8. I removed a switch from my yard, giving me three yard tracks, not 4 (the A/D track can act as a 4th classification track, and the main a 5th, at worst). I also moved the engine shed to another area, and now have a smaller, more shortline looking yard (which they branch pretty much is, lol). My other layout plan might happen in a year or two, lol.

Tyler made the video if you where complimenting me.

I haven't weathered anything yet. I also haven't thought of opening up a business. I suppose I could do a few locomotives for friends ect, but not a business.

Trust me, painting/weathering stuff for other people gets boring/horrible really quickly... Don't do it... You'll regret it...

im so confused...

I ordered a couple of things from walthers the other day. one of them was shipped and the other was backordered because it was out of stock. it was supposed to come in today. i checked the website before and it was still out of stock, but the delivery date was changed to unknown. so now im getting a structure, but no glue to put it together with. why does walthers never have anything in stock?

guess ill just keep working on scenery and finding an alternate way to put the sturcture together.

If I were you, I'd wait till the glue comes in rather than fudge the structure and use tape or something to assemble it...

Alex, I wouldn't know anything about that, would I?Whistling
