If your talking about names with a ring, listen to this.  I used to belong to a club near Janesville, WI, who called themselves the "Wis-Ill Club" (pronounced whistle) because the modular layout represented railways in the southern Wisconsin-north Illinois area.

Just to bring it about, anybody here work in On30 or other narrow gauges?  Narrow-midedness isn't always a bad thing...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

In think WIN is a play on initials, like NEAT (New England-Atlantic Transportation), VAST (Vermont And South Troy) or SORRy, South Ontario & Rome Railway... WIS doesn't have the same ring as WIN either...

How about the Wisconsin, Illinios, & Southern instead of the WIN? That's what my indiana Southern will connect with.

I don't think that's an SD20. A SD20 has 3 radatior fans. It looks more to me like an Athearn BB chopped GP7/9.

You're the closest, it's a chopped Athearn GP7. I made a thread about it a few months back.

Well, here's a new layout plan. looks more like the red rock northern now. bTW, I can't really add any buildings with my planning software, but there will be 2 towns, sorta like on the Red rock northern. BTW, since the main crosses, it can act like the Indiana Southern crosses another RR.

I looked closer, yeah it's a Geep, probably an athearn.

As of now no new equipment and still no layout. I'm still hounding Ebay for some locos I really want, but am selling off some stuff I don't need anymore. I'm probably getting rid of that Atlas GP40 I got at the show, I saw what those older ones can go for on ebay.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Wikious: How'd you make that SD20? Is it an Atlas, Athearn (don't look like it), or a proto.

Sawyer: Jut plan the mailine first, then add sidings, yards and passing track in one at a time.

Here's a 4x8 plan I did in HO using my method:

I have to agree with Alex Sawyer, take out a few of the industrial sidings. Unless you plan to make it a big city.

Wikious, do you have room to add a run around. I'm just wondering because my layout didn't have a run around and it wasn't very convenient.

The Indiana Southern has been replanned to include a twice-around design.

I got fed up with not having a clear spot to build an actual layout, so on a whim last night I decided I'd make a diorama. I took a few pictures of what I've got so far- mainly the track plan. it's 1 foot by just over 4 feet, and the sidings hold 1-2 cars each.

Overview with track names and industries

Are you doing the 50's transition era?  If so, it would be cool to see FEF-2/3 Northerns in SP colors.

thats the great thing about it i don't have to do too much

but the period is the late 80's to early 90's but that dosen't mean i could do a merger in the transition era, can anyone say SP bigboy'sBig Smile [:D]

That would be a great idea! Grey with white numbers would fit perfect. I would also patch out the shield up front with a red/scarlet square and put a white "SP" over it. Use your creativity to make some interseting patches.

Here's an updated photo of my locomotive roster.

Say ive been doing some thinking lately (*** thats a dangerous thing to do), ive got a whole heap of UP motive power that isn't what i really want on a Southern pacific layout, so i though what if i base the layout fictiously (sp?) on a SP-UP merger, where UP went broke instead vice versa?

what kind of detail would have to be put on the locomotives and rolling stock?

obviously patches over the numbers like UP have but what colours would be appropiate? scarlet grey and white numbers

any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks

I'm 15.  I'm kinda the late bloomer to the whole forum thing....I was like a mushroom for a while; you know the saying, "in the dark and fed..." you get the idea..

I model in HO and On30.

I like that 0-4-0 though, Life-Like right?

As for the K4, it should be nice!

WCfan:

A helix would take up to much space and would be to much work for what it would accomplish. The stagin yard for the lower level will be removable and able to set up to the main staging yard topside.

I don't know how far south it would run, or what I section would model, but I'm starting with the name. I'll then create a realistic history for my shortline, then I'll choose a section to model. I do like the trackage rights idea!

Cool! How far south does it run? Another thing to condsider is that you might have a bunch of shorter sections of track in some areas connected by trackage rights on New England Central/CPRail or whatever railroads are around there. My 2 cents [2c]

WOO!! I like Montreal & St. Albans!

Running south out of Montreal. Fictional track that doesn't exist.
