You know, you don't have to merge with the NH to have a patched NH unit. It could've been purchased second-hand; most shortlines don't buy new locomotives at all, for example, the WRS currently has a bunch of units that origanally belonged to a whole host of railroads including C&O, CPRail, and UP, plus a GP9M from who knows where, and possibly an SD45 (probably ex-Santa Fe or SP) if Alex gets around to ordering it...Wink [;)]

Of course, only the GP9M is painted (or will be as soon as it sees WRS rails again), and the SD45 will be if I get it; the other units (UP, C&O, and CPRail) will need to be repainted or at least patched. I'm thinking that CPRail 5009 will be repainted as WRS 2500,  C&O 2306 will be repainted as WRS 2306, and UP 1402 will just be patched to WRS 1402. This is because of all the fine details on 1402, which would be hard to paint without damaging them.

The WRS uses a horsepower-based numbering system, a 1750 HP GP9M is in the 1750 series, a 2500 HP GP35 goes in the 2500 series, and a 2250 HP (WRS 2306 was upgraded to 2300 Hp, however) U23B goes into the 2250 serie, except the WRS units are in the 2300 series.

Former UP 1402 was patched but not renumbered, otherwise it would be in the 2550 series. (it has 2500 HP, but it has quite a bit more tractive effort than a like HP GP35 because of the 6 axle trucks.

And now I will stop confusing you...and myself...Whistling [:-^]

White River Southern runs from White River Junction Vt, to Concord NH. MEC got sort of near there. If you are merging with NH, at the time B&M and NH had the same presidents, so you might want to consider including in it, not to mention MEC and B&M had very strong ties, and you can't get to MEC without going through B&M.

Ty: Where does the WRS operate from (I forget). However, the layout is staying in southern Pennsylvania. It's actually a branch line (so I'll be using old road-switchers[GP9s, GP30s, GP38/40s, RS units, etc.). I' think there'll be a commuter train using an FA unit or such. But yeah, I wanted to have a patched New Haven unit (GP9), so I took liberties and said my RR merged w/ the New Haven and bought the Maine Central in 1977. And I couldn't come up w/ a good name till I got the Pittsburgh and New Haven RR. Just wait till I get to the North Pole ;]

B&M's Wood Coaches (used by Arcade & Attica, Steamtown has some, Strasburg uses them exclusively, Old Colony & Newport, etc). MBTA's 500 series coaches. B&M 2-6-0's and 4-6-2's.

Alex; what cars are you resin casting? I've always been interested in mass-producing my own rolling stock...Smile [:)] Maybe I can get some tips from you.

Sawyer... Got the New England Bug eh?

Jordan, that sounds like quite the project. If you want to think about it with #'s... 39 comes after 38, and before 40. I'm not sure on the exact build years, but you might want to focus more on 38 body componenets.

Not much new for me... I ordered a little more stuff for Packer's GP30, Tylers GP9rm, and another friends' GP38-2. After that I need to work on finishing up some scratchbuilt cars, and do some resin casts of them. Smile [:)]

After those projects are done, I have to do some Steamers, mostly scratchbuilt, but those can wait until after Springfield. I want to do a 45 Tonner and a couple of the Wood Cars in a local excursion railroad, as well as their two RDC's.

Its nice at 9:30 at night listening to them dead heading back to the yard in Melville RI...

I thought it would be that easy too...but there's more to it.

The first problem is the radiator, the SDLs is like a GP38 rad, but it's in two pieces, like GP40. But the SDL39s is shorter than the GP40s rad. The second problem is the hood pieces don't match exactly. I can solve this by cutting of where the hood doors start and start cutting the out some of the individual doors to get it to match. The second part will be the trucks. The SD45 trucks are the closest match, but they will have to be modified heavily.

I can do it, it'll just take some time. Right now I'm going to focus on the body.

EDIT: Umm, I'm looking at the hoods that Cannon & Co sells, which would eb right of a GP38? the 18X78 inch, or the 22X78 inch?

And for the doors under the rad, 22X65 inch, or 17X65 inch?

here's my WPF post:

I'm keeping my plan, but changing the RR. It is now called the Pittsburgh & New Haven RR. It was formed when the Pittsburgh Atlantic (fictional) and the New York, New Haven& Hartford merged in 1966, before the New haven could go to Penn Central. Both RRs locos were patched (New haven had # +name removed from cab, kept logo on side) The Pittsburgh Atlantic had the current scheme. They also bought out the Maine Central RR in 1977, and just patched those locos. So here's the paint scheme:

I've formed my own leasing co. as well: SAWX leasing. BTW, the GP9 will have the same color scheme, but w/ the yellow locos lettering (not the little statement on the side, just SAWX in neon green.

WCFan; you might be able to use a frame from a different type of loco then build the loco on top of it using parts from cheap Athearn bodies. the fram looks to be about as long as a GP7, or maybe an SW1500, you'd just need to put 6 axle trucks on it from an Atlas or something...

I think a SD9 frame would work better.

Wikious, that's why I would buy a miter box...Tongue [:P]

I found a mitre saw works well for cutting shells, just make sure you have a steady hand and are actually cutting straight and even.

Would a cut up Athearn SD40 or SD9 frame work better?

Actually, I think the hood may be the easiest part... you're going to have to figure out how to cut up the frame, and what not...

Grrrr, I really would like a SDL39, but it's a lot of work. But I would feel a lot more accomplished if I kit bashed it. I can figure it out. Just need some hood sections, and other parts. And I thought the trucks would be hard! HA.

Yeah....what can you do. A kitbash might be better than working in resin. One dent or too much pressure with your #11 and you're skrewed. Of course, that's what modeling putty is for. Resin is still a good amount of work.

I'll have to check them out. This is going to be a big project. The hood sections aren't exact. So if I can find some one that makes long hood hood sections that'd be great.

Alex, mwahahahahahahaha.

Check out Higball Graphics. They have a great selection of detail parts, and the pricing isn't too bad. Help keep those great small stores in business. (Whenever I order from them there's always a hand signed "Thank You" on the printed order list).

They stock most major detail parts manufacturers...

I thought Kaslos where 500 bucks? lol.

well, looks like there's going to be alot of work on my Shell. I Need new Radiator Fans, and New Rad Grill, and the hood section might have to be replaced in order to fit the proto-type...

Model Master has good paint. I used their rust color on this project:

All the painting was done by dry brushing. No air brush was used.

Great Vids GG. I Found the DRG&W one more interesting, but that's just because that's the power I like. Don't get me wrong though, they where both interesting.

BTW: That last Clip in the DRG&W vid, at 3.13, a piece of cattel had gotten ran over, that's why they stopped...Whistling [:-^]
