Packers#1, it looks like the Rock Island!

Holy crap, you're right, it does. Completly by accident. Of course, the whole cab is maroon, and that's WC maroon, not RI maroon. Tyler, it's actually a 21 mile Terminal railroad w/ three small branch lines (Aiken-Augusta Terminal Rwy. I know Aiken and Augusta are closer, but I need a longer distance, so sue me, lol). They may at some point operate a leasing fleet, IDK. Of course, the railroad mogul who bought the section of the SRR that became the AAT bought the DDWH too. And a few other shortlines whose names I have freelanced, notably the Indiana Southern and the Pittsburgh and New Haven RR.

So, uh, what reporting marks should I use to patch the equipment? And is there a numbering scheme I should follow?

Also, Alex, what was the name of that shortline you were planning? Montreal & St. Albans? And what about you, Jordan? I remember you were creating all those loco drawings a while ago... What was the name again? Wasn't it the Wisconsin, Illinois, and Northern (WIN)?

In case you guys can't tell, I have some extra space on a decal sheet I'm having printed, and I'm going to add some patch decals on it... I was looking at a freight train last week (CSX AYSE in Worcester, MA) and there were literally more patched cars than cars lettered for their origanal owners! There were 5 unpatched Maine Central and 2 unpatched Boston & Maine cars though!Shock And surprise, surprise, I didn't have my camera on me...Banged Head

West Formanek, kind of has a ring to it.

Sawyer, that Geep does remind me of the CRIP brown scheme. Nice choice in Maroon too. Tongue You could also of bought gold paint, or dark yellow. But the EL yellow should work fine, it’s not like it has to be exact anyway. If you go for a lighter yellow/cream you'd be going back to the WCs late 80s early 90s V-Stripe scheme. The only locomotive that got painted in the WC traditional "Tree" with the light yellow was WC 6655. She was retired early on, for some reason I don't know.

I dunno... 'Cause your name is in your signature, I guess... I'll still name something after the other Alex, although I don't know what yet... West Formanek? Actually, I think that's what it will be... Sorry RailfanAlex! (I keep getting all these Alex's confused... I think we should rename one... Smile,Wink, & Grin)

I guess I'll name an industry after you... Delery Pulpwood? I need a new sign for it anyway, as the old one says it's in West Concord...Whistling

Then I can patch a boxcar for Sawyer's leasing company or railroad...whatever it is now... Wink

Hey WC fan, I know you especially will like my new paint scheme (hopefully begun painting sometime after November 22nd). It uses WC Maroon and EL yellow (modeltrainstuff.com has no WC yellow from floquil, so oh well). I can't post the drawing i used, because it's by Michael Eby, but I'll draw it on a Stan lytle one and post it.

And here it is:

I like all those names, Alex, but then I don't get to name it after someone! Wonder how I could fit De Lery into a town name... Maybe Delery, but then people will pronounce it as if it rhymes with celery...

West Delery?

Like I said, Sawyer. Sounds like a good name, lol.

West Delery is good too.

Wikious, I agree with Sawyer.

Now, for town names...hmmmm: I have a few that I like:

The list goes on! These are all existing towns and cities I randomly found on Google Maps.

Brrr! I'm cold. It's -1 degrees, and yes, it's snowing. It's not even November! Sigh

1) With GM closing in Janesville, WI, the Union Pacific decides to pull out as well. With this, the Wisconsin and Southern buys the old C&NW yard in town and builds some new facilities (yard office and car cleaning services). UP being what it is, it still retains trackage rights leading out of town and still interchanges with the WSOR. [For this idea, I'm already planning industries similar to existing ones, but by no means exact copies. I also wouldn't be modeling the town or its features exactly, either.]

I vote #1, just sounds a little more plausible to me, and then the track also has already been established.

Ok, so looking through GMR and thinking about last year's project layout, the WSOR Troy Branch, I figured I can scrap my plan for two industrial switching areas and go for a yard, engine terminal, and then have my soda bottling plant behind the yard like REC paper products is on the Troy branch. I can then have my double track main out of town and too staging, where a line from the other end of the yard, which is the line to the interchange w/ the SRR (Genesee & Wyoming), connects, so I get continous running and the ability to use all of my current locomotives.

While we're discussing town names, I might as well run something past you guys.

I can't decide on what backstory I want for my protolance, and I think I've narrowed it down to two.

2) The WSOR decides that since business is booming, it can open a new branch into SE Wisconsin. [Since there isn't much WSOR trackage in that part of the state, I could pretty much freelance the area and not be held accountable.]

Any thoughts?

Eagle Wood, Blue River, Clear Water, New Lisbon, White River Junction, River Junction, Random Lake (Real town name), New London, Junction City, Stevens Point, Tylers Point, (New) Alexandria, Ceder Creek, ect. I think I'm thinking more Western Names Tongue. Look on a map of New England and pick out a town name you like. Tongue

I had a good town name this morning, but forgot it through the course of the day. I remember it as a cross between a Canary and Greenwich, but not Cedewich...

Yeah, GMR 2009 is one of the best I've seen so far!

All right, I need a new town name for my layout... The area can't be West Concord anymore since I changed the yard from Concord to White River Junction... Any ideas? I'd like to name it after someone, but I don't know who, and some of your names aren't very town name-like without modification... (Alexville?Smile,Wink, & Grin)

South White River Junction?

Sawyer? (hey, it does have a town ring to it Big Smile)

White River?

Concord?

Studebaker? (after the car)

I still need to get GMR 2009. They have a BN consist on the cover (GN BSB F45, SP&S Alco, CB&Q Geep, BN F45), although it's a WP layout.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Aww, Alex, I was just joking with you. I know you're really busy.

Tyler, for you Chessie GE, you could patch out the C&O stub lettering and numbers with a light yellow, and it wouldn't look that out of place. I know there were a few Chessie scheme locomotives that made it to the 90s.

Sawyer, I hope to pick up GMR 2009 at my LHS. Looks like a nice cover! Tongue

Sawyer, that's some good money!

you're telling me. my parents were gonna make me save $20, but I only spent around $77, so I saved around $23.something. here's what I bought:

At the LHS (Time Zone hobbies & Toys): 3 life-like shakers of turf (dark green, light green, light yellow), a fair sized bag of woodland scenics medium blended gray ballast, a tube of plastic cement, a paintbrush, 6 pieces of 6 in. straight Atlas code 80 snap track, and Great Model Railroads 2009. The guy there gave me a coupon a little early and let me use it, so I got $10 off what would have been a $60 purchase. I also took a peek at their locos, they had some Athearn SD70whatevers, a Life-like F40PH, an Atlas central of Georgia DCC equipped unit for $118 (I love atlas, but i don't need DCC. Probably would have begged my mom to let me buy the unit and not save anything if it was a $100 DC version), and some b-mann standard line I didn't even ask about, but I stuck w/ the scenery stuff.

Then I went to a store called Lids in the mall and bought a $27 Packers cap to replace my old one. I like it, and I still got the old one.

I've also gotten my RR's history created. I'm hopefully going to talk my parents into letting me ebay the stuff I'm not going to use, which is mainly my GP30 and some freight cars. I'll probably get a new shell for my GP30 though, because it looks like crap right now.

The club had an old switch frog that we sat on outside to eat lunch... And you never asked for any food, Alex!Wink

EDIT: I don't know if I'll patch it or completely repaint it. This unit comes apart really easily, so it wouldn't require any masking were I to repaint it, but it's probably the only unit I have that would be able to be patched, as the others wouldn't come to the WRS in their current paint, so they'd need repainting. This unit will probably be one of the last units to be patched/repainted, as I can live with it in it's current state more than a PRR GP7...
