HAve an MRI for my back today. I really don't see the value as the problem seems mostly to be muscular....that is I seem to pull the muscles and strain them all the time unless I sit or lay down. But just in case there are nerves pinched is my Dr.s idea.

Having some really bad computer problems. Real bad. I don't know what's going on, but I can tell it's not working correctly...I won't have a computer for a few weeks. I have no clue when I'll be back on the forums, but it'll be a while.I'll catch ya guys at the next station. Till then, be safe, and happy model railroading!

I came to the diner because I needed and wanted to talk to other people that run trains. You ever try to talk to someone that isn't interested in trains? You might as well be in another country speaking another language. One other aspect of model trains, you could have ten people in a room.. and ask a train question. You might get ten different answers~ I like coming here.. because I know my friends here.. and I get honest answers. Now that is not to say you won't on the blogs here... its just I know these peeps here and what layouts they are building. And besides.. I'm one of the 'Crash Test Dummies' (backward engineering)(don't do this at home) thingy's.. so dont' ask me.. I'm just havin fun~

Zoe just a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug and a pecan pie. Yep reserve a whole pie for me. I plan on seeing how high i can get my sugar by lunch time........ Just a dumb April fools thing Zoe! I'll actually have one of those waffles with blueberries and Maple Syrup. Yeah, I know THAT will raise the sugar as well, but I don't care.
The sun is shinning here in the Finger lakes this morning. Currently 56°F with the high in the low 70s this afternoon. Time to break out the light jacket I guess. Maybe even open up some windows later.
I will be leaving in an hour to go to my son's house to take care of the granddaughters today. Art has to work a 12 hour shift today and his MIL has to take one of her dogs in for surgery (nothing serious - being spayed) so I get to spend some time with the girls... It's a nice day here in the Finger Lakes! Did I mention THAT?

Morning all. Just stopping in for a tall glass of milk, and an order of biscuits and gravy. I've got to go to w**k today from noon til six, so I guess I've got a little time to relax before heading off that way. Nothing important happening around here, been thinking about getting out my SD40-2 and doing a final check of what detail parts I'll be needing along with the decals for its renumbering. I've pretty well decided that I'm going to change the number into the 88xx series of CSX SD40-2's since they all fit the model that I have in hand without having to buy a new nose for her. I've also been thinking about my GP40-2 and GP38-2, I've got to get some paint on them, but they are not a push at the time being. Well, that's about it for me, guess I'm going to go and get a load of laundry washed, as I've got to get a couple of clean uniforms for the next few days (don't have a full day off till Tuesday, so I've got to be prepared). I'll stop in later this evening to see what all new has happening.
BTW, welcome David. Nice to meet you, have a RBF (Root Beer Float) on me!

I passed my exams, BOTH of them, THANKFULLY!!! I got home to find a letter from NJT... I CAN'T believe they couldn't lay me off in person! It had to come in the form of a LETTER! Geez!
Well, THAT said, I ordered an ipod video off THEbay last night, so that I wouldn't be going as crazy while I was on a "break" during qualifying and trainhandling. Looks like THAT is a mute point!April Fools!

Joe and ray,t hanks. yeah joe. well, got both tests done. not sure how I did. the Antigone test was HARD. and right after spring break we get to reading the tragedy of Julius Cesear or however that name is spelled. but point is I don't have anything to do over spring break except for two biology worksheets that are due the wednesday of the week we're back so we don't HAVE to get them done, but we can. Yay we're going to study EVOLUTION......... oh how the world is lead astray by scientists...but that's not a conversation for this diner or forum. let's just say I don't believe in evolution in the molecules to man branch or the big bang for that matter; 6 day Creationist right here. but that's a conversation that ain't sanctioned here. just wanted to say what I believe.

I did all kinds of hd schtuff and then "betook" myself to a FLHS and ended up picking up a couple of piping kits, a couple of modular tank kits, a few more hoppers and a couple of Atlas N scale cars 1978-Ford Fairmont station wagons and a couple of grain trucks--- Another thing that I picked up was the book on Railside Industries for Eric----
I also came across another 2 ARNOLD ALCO S-2's---the deisels Ray, not the steam versions. Picked them up for $40/pr. Both undec yet!
Now, I can get a little closer to getting those conveyor systems put together

Anybody got any of the old G Scale plastic track? I need 4 straight sections.

I've been tinkering with the same engines from before, tweaking the drives a bit. The U30C chassis is back together, but I have to order new handrails and some decals to spruce it up a bit. I also have to pick up some gears for athearn/p2k locos since my GP35 (used in another loco) and GP18 both need some (split gear again). I've saved all the axle ends so I could buy the athearn gears for them bu tit's probably more than I'd ever use.
I was reading through a back issue of RMC and stumbled across a BN branch I could model, The former WI&M branch. I have a decent amount of almost everything that was used on the line, except; 60' centerbeams, thrall all-doors, and woodchip hoppers. Could be intresting, but I don't have space for a layout.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

WAs a hot one today the house {trailer} is finally cooling down now. TOmorrow I think we unbury the A/C unit and fire it up! Imagine A/c in April in NY! Got to test the A/C in the new Kia Sedona...works just fine. onlyest problem is it is cold in the am, and hot in the noontime this time of year. WIth Easter fast approaching it should stay nice and warm. The "peepers" down at teh nearby pond are peeping already. A good sign spring is here/near.'

It's going to be a static display in the front yard. It's replacing an old Bachmann Big Hauler that was out there for years. My father accidentally burned it last year when we were burning off the yard. The track was brass but had plastic ties.

I actually bought it to go around the small pond/waterfall in the front yard. I found it didn't fit in as well as I had imagined.Then I had that issue with that tremendously large take-over-everything tomato plant if you remember that incident. The one I called "franken-mato", so there was definitely no room for a train out there, lol. I still have not given up on the idea of a G scale out there, though. But I believe I wait till we buy a house and have a better place to put it.
EDIT: Looks like I got top honors so the tab is on me, guys eat up what you want....pie and all!

Chris: Thanks for the details tips, I've filed them with the other suggestions - and I will have a "pick and choose" session. I didn't know about the weather-tight lockable boxes. Sounds like those should be a real possibility. The fork-lift capable storage things are quite the idea too - There may be a fork lift doing nothing in particular at some freight shed on the layout....and (Bazinga! as Sheldon Cooper would say [sorry about that Sawyer ] ) indeed there is! THAT was facing the tracks away from the viewer! I'll cut it off and adapt it - probably empty it. I've also been saving the small metal pieces that separate Atlas rail joiners in those strips of 4 they do. Rusted, they would stand in for those brake shoes or similar - although they are more like tie plates - maybe I'll have to trim them a bit. The water bottles I'll pass on. Like graffiti, litter is a detail I'd rather do without. I know it's authentic, but there's enough out there already IMHO
David: Welcome - any friend of Jeff's is OK by us, as I see galaxy has already said! Care to give us your mrr and/or Railfan interests? Enquiring minds need to know, and all that. Oooops, I see Ulrich took care of that pretty promptly. Actually Ulrich I think CapeJim asks that more often than not..

I'm surprised to see most expect to be working tomorrow in the US. Internet Model Trains are shipping an old delayed order tomorrow, they say - that struck me as odd, until I came in here and saw most of you expect to be business as usual.
Our daughter phoned this pm to say that our #1 grandson got home earlier than his younger brother just so he could rig up a water trap above #2 gs' door. Tested it on himself and got soaked - set it up again....#2 comes home, pushes into his room - nothing nada, not a drop! The metal plate full of water just stayed up there on top of the door!
Finally got the track laying mistakes in the freight yard throat wrestled to the ground. It turned out that both turnouts had kinks in the rail from the frog that involved bending the short pieces of rail rather than have them straight, in order to follow the curve out of the turnout. The kinks were not enough to upset the 4 axel locos, but enough to derail the 6 axel ones. It took some detective work with a mirror to find just what the trouble was - but it's all sorted now. I'm getting better lighting for that yard throat area. These LEDs just don't cut it. I'd replaced the fluorescent strip light over the sink in our daughter's kitchen - and have stripped it down to it's component parts. I'm going to power it from the same 115v line and switch as the power pack that gives 16v AC to my turntable. I'm putting the transformer in a box cut down from the original casing the light was mounted in - and will have the bulb and it's holders mounted separately under the upper level. All wire joints will have marettes, be wrapped in electrical tape and secured to a solid surface. If that sounds impractical ,or downright dangerous, to any of you with electrical experience, please let me know.

Been a long day. Went over to my son's today at lunch time and watched my youngest granddaughter as the older one went with Grandma to the vets with the dogs. Came back home to find I had a call from a friend who was going to borrow the truck tomorrow to help his son move. They were able to move today so he wanted the truck today. I told him to come over and get it. No problem. When he got here since the truck was already hooked up to the trailer we decided he should just take the trailer and make one trip. Gave him the key the truck, he got in, turned the key...... Dead battery! Battery was new a year ago. So something drained the power. We jump started the truck and it coughed and sputtered for a while and wouldn't idle. THAT is because the computer needs to reset after the electrical has been down. Finally got it running pretty good and the guy asks me if I would feel better driving the truck? So I go and help. We get over to the new apartment the son and his wife are moving into, and I notice the light is on for the brake unit even though I disconnected the brakes and lights on the trailer..... Hmmmmm. We check out the electrical and find no headlights, or running loights working. Brake lights and turn signals yes. I checked the fuses and they all appear to be OK. The truck has been sitting connected to the trailer for a month and the light may have been left on in the trailer inside??? Who knows? So it could just need a computer reset of some sort, or there could be a major problem.
The friend was kind enough to follow me up to the dealership I have work on the truck (they have evening hours every Thursday) so the truck has been dropped off to see what it needs. We then grabbed a couple subs, chips, and stuff and came back to my house to consume it and play trains for a bit. He models in G scale, but likes to run my layout. He also wanted to see what I was doing at the top of Bare Mountain.
After he left I figured it was the first of the month so I finalized my 2009 taxes and e-filed them (Federal and State). This is the first time in over 20 years THAT I actually owe them rather than get a refund. This will be a broke month I'm afraid.
So I am up late tonight and just now getting THAT decafe I need.

Good morning. It's 62 and cloudy. The high today is expected to be 76 and it will be mostly cloudy.Nothing on the agenda today except to pay a few bills. Placed an order yesterday for some Bachmann EZ-Mate couplers. My plan for them is to super glue the knuckles in place and use them for things like unit trains. If they don't work out I can always pile them outside the car barn to make a scrap pile.

Ray aren't vehicle problems a pain in the patootie? Hopefully I have warded off some as I purchased the new Kia Sedona. Of course we are keeping the old Gr. Caravan for awhile, so It may still have issues. We know we need to put in New struts and shocks SOON on it.
Since the weather is supposed to be so good tomorrow too...we are thinsking of taking a trip to Steamtown and watch them play with the trains...IF they are running the steam and not just the diesel. It's a little early for the summer routine and excursions except that around the yard, but we often go just to watch them play.

Was in Boone, Iowa all day yesterday for a "sportswriter and photographer's" workshop. I picked up a few good tips from the shooter, got vindication THAT some things I tried photo-wise this year were...on-track...as it were. I got a glimpse of the future of daily newspapers...uh, I mean, "media organizations." Seems in order to survive, the papers will be going increasingly into competition with local TV stations, and will be using the internet to beat the internet...if THAT makes any sense. Long story short, I shoulda been born about 15-20 years sooner, had my photojournalist career sooner, and been about ready to retire. It's going more and more to Twitter, blogging, "social media," and being a multi-media specialist.
I just want to take photographs... guess I'm a dinosaur at almost 41!
Speaking of dinosaurs, creationism, evolutionism, etc. I interviewed a guy Wednesday afternoon who swears he's found dinosaur fossils. No joke. No April Fools Day prank...he's spent 2-1/2 years researching, digging, etc. The U of I says "they're just rocks." The Dept. of Natural Resources says "it's not impossible" but they strongly doubt it too. THAT went from all being excited that we (I, but really...she) was gonna break the biggest story. Now....she's saying we're not going to pursue this. I told her going in, I was skeptical. I talked to the dude on the phone...he sounded stoned! Turns out, he IS a stoner!!! Since he hasn't left his house in 3 months, doesn't drive, rarely goes anyplace...I'm guessing he grows his own. Well...everybody needs a hobby I guess. He was pretty well on a trip when I met with him. At one point, I wanted to invoke a Joe Friday quote from Dragnet: "come down and land."
Welp, gotta get a move-on... The Solon Economist and North Liberty Leader newspapers are very much open for business today. Like a presenter yesterday with the Cedar Rapids Gazette said about w**king on Christmas Day: "you expect a paper tomorrow? Who do you think puts it together? Santa's Elves?" said in response to a shocked neighbor, horrified he had to w**k on Christmas.
Speaking of w**k, I have an Easter Egg Hunt to shoot tomorrow morning in Swisher, will probably need to have it ready to go for Monday morning. Maybe, jusssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssst maybe, I can get a little MRR w**k in this weekend...doubtful though.
A respectful nod to those observing Good Friday as the sacred Holy Day it is, and a very big, probably non-politically correct "HAPPY EASTER!" a few days early. Hmmmmm, I wonder if our infrequent visitor will be along to try and dampen our holiday spirits...again.

Good FRIDAY morning all,Not much going on here, last night I helped a friend price his brass collection for a possible reassignment to the BAY track. I noted that those steam locomotive command a high price and the brass diesels are cheaper than a BLI or a Bachmann. Interesting, regardless I suggested he would have a larger market for these in November.
