Spent this evening over at Tiger Valley Trains yearly memorial open house for the Lehigh Valley. Guil Mack has a basement (1800 squaqre feet) filled with trains. He also went and built a house to live in over it. Several thousand feet of hand laid track. Alco Locomotives run in DC lashed together pulling hundreds of cars in a consist. About 40 people were there for the event. After an hour and a half of watching trains and seeing the layout, we all went upstairs for some presentations of the Lehigh Valley back in its glory days!
One of the presenters was an Assistant Scoutmaster in my Boy Scout Troop for a year when I first took over as scoutmaster. He had many, many slides of the Sayre Yard back in the 60's and 70's. I lived and taught in Waverly, NY the first 11 years of my career and spent many, many hours watching trains at the Sayre Yards. We had a good talk before I left. I could identify right where he was taking the photos............ Fun evening!
Looks like the upgrade was seamless and got done early. Good!

Lot's of train related activities on the schedule today. First stop is a train show in Monaca, PA this morning. It's held by the Beaver County Model RR Club. They are also having an open house at their layout, so we will stop in there after leaving the show. On the way home, I plan on railfanning the Norfolk Southern at either Leetsdale, Glenfield, or both. Now if I can just find some jewels at the show, the day will be perfect. Everybody have a good one...

Well you've been waiting for it so here it is. The GP30 turned out pretty good.
Good morning all. And a fine beeeeeautiful morning it is!. It's a taste after 9 am here so you know where I'm not. Church. I should be, but too many things distracting me.
Not much happened after the big shut down on Friday other than work. I did manage to get the front yard mowed. Had to use the push mower even though the grass was a bit too tall and thick for it to use without clogging up all the time. The battery was dead in the tractor and I charged it while I mowed the front. Saturday, I cleaned out all the stuff in my office room into the living room, vacuumed and washed the carpets, took the old console TV to the electronics disposal event at the fairgrounds so I now have that thing out of the train room. More space. Mowed the backyard, but didn't get any grass bags so I have giant piles of grass in the yard. Gotta pick them up this eve. Got in trouble with the wife for not returning from the gas station in a timely manner, and spent too much time away last night.
Today, I shall continue putting my stuff back in the office, attend the trainshow about noon, and, if all goes as planned, meet Inch there, then do a bit of grocery shopping since we are in town, then Brenda has a Baby Shower (I guess everyone has to gather around and wash the baby. A ritual I suppose) at 4 for a friend and I, yes I, can then go to the train room for a while, providing the dog will allow it. Oh, I forgot about the grass piles.

Whew! that wasnt so bad. At least they have us up and running before the promised monday time! Lets hope no glitches pop up.

The trees around here are greening up nicely already! Of course the cherry, dogwood and forsythia are blooming, the buds are appearing on the lilacs{yuck} and I now have to start an IV of psuedafed for a couple months now due to allergies. Yippy!
Between the Oxycontn and oxycodone and muscle relaxer for my back, I spent/spend a lot of time sleeping.
We have a what we think is a rogue virus or spyware program perporting to be MS AntiVirus 7 that has planted itself on our computer. Our regular McAfee has managed to be overriden by it, but did manage to peep out a warning that it could be a virus/spyware program, otherwise it reads right over it as a valaid program.. This AV7 keeps poping up with warning and pop ups for purchasing it online that we dont know how to get rid of. Does anybody know before I spend the money at a computer service store? WE also get pop up messages like this from the AV7:
"Google Redirect Virus is an application which was designed to have harmful functionality and is utilized to ensure a PC user's entire network is compromised and possibly endangered. The term Trojan refers to the fact this particular malware, Google redirect virus is installed uinder deceptive pretenses, infiltrating the user's PC without their approval or knowledge"
It then has a fix button that that leads to the purchasing page of AntiVirus 7.We are not aobut to buy it but cant seem to get rid of it and cant stop the constant popup it say "warning you have viruses" when we think it itself is a virus. Whne the computer was serviced they provived us weith a Malware program free that also reads this rogue as a regular legit file. HELP anyone who can??!!

EDIT:I think the malware program finally did it's job and got rid of those rogue programs....I just had to find the right button to push to do so on the program after its scan. It found 8 items infected. now run a clean scan jsut to be sure. Thanks for any help that is offered before/.after this editing

Ok.. time for a small story. Some of you.. I can only guess.. have some interest or knowledge in Steel Mills.
What you didn't know..is that Jeanne, my wife.. her dad was a CEO of a steel mill. And some of her uncles in the business as well. Ah yes.. the steel mill business. Back then if you got a job in a steel mill.. well it was dangerous.. but the pay was good. A brother-hood of men.. using techniques as old as bibical times itself.
I know Jeanne's dad started out as a steel mill worker before WW II .. and worked himself all the way to the top. There is also a story of him.. being drafted. All the letters from the steel mill.. just didn't seem to work. Her dad's had all his stuff packed and ready to go the next day. But then.. the draft board sent a letter.. finally caught up to him.. that day~ .. seems the U.S. Gov't made a mistake... ah.. UNCLE SAM wants you to make steel.. stay home. So he stayed home.. and made steel. I also know.. her dad died when she was 11.. but she did tell me of the time her dad took her to the steel mill. (when your daddy is the boss.. you can go to the steel mill) and described everything.. from big big.. to hot HOT.. and the noise .. LOUD.
There are stories of her dad and the whole family went off to Chile to set up a steel mill. I can only imagine a man's talent like that.. they must have treated him like a King.. with special powers.. I dunno... but I just wanted to share with you guys.
And funny.. when something is gone.. you miss it. I missed the Diner.. and all of you~!

I have Malwarebytes' Anti malware provided free by the computer company free. I haven't bemoaned it here-only Jeffrey knws- but for 6 weeks I was basically computerless, with parts failing left and right until new computer arised. A circuit board fried, then the harddrive crashed several times, then the monitor failed and hard drive had permenant error on it, etc etc etc. If it weren't for bad luck {with the computer} I'd have no luck at all.
Anyway thank you for the link, but I think malwabyte took care of it. appears to have anyway and I see no popups happening now.

Glad to see everybody is making it back in. There will be some that will take Kalmbach at their word and won't check back in until Monday. But I know that I was like the rest of you guys and kept checking every now and then to see if they could speed it up. WAY TO GO KALMBACH, you have restored our faith.
Well Girls, I'll have that Sunny Boy Breakfast (two eggs sunnyside up with two strips of bacon smiling at me, raisin toast with a hot chocolate this morning as it is pretty cool again. BUT THAT DARN WIND WENT DOWN, along with a lot of branches off my trees.
Felt quite ill last evening after work, so only had a light supper and then slept most of the evening and night away. Feel a lot better this morning and at work again. I hate working Sundays.... We had it worked out for awhile, but they changed the program and now we have two guards on at the same time and we rotate, it means we work half of the Sundays. It was sure nice to be free of them for about ten months. Oh well, I guess I could retire again. Will think about that.
Not much news on the MR front right now, would sure like to get that staging yard complete. Thought I would get at it last evening, but as I have said that didn't turn out too well for me. Hope I have better luck tonight.

Had a very nice day. Started off at the train show where I picked up a PRR GG-1. Nice condition and ran well on my test track when I got it home. The seller stated it was a Rivarossi, but I don't think it is. "Slovakia" is stamped on the trucks, so I'm thinking it is an IHC. No matter, still a good deal.
Stopped on the way home at Leetsdale, PA to do a little railfanning and hit it lucky there as well. Caught 9 trains between 11:30 and 1:00. Five intermodals, one coal train, and three mixed freights. Among the power was 2 Conrail blues, 1 Union Pacific, and two BNSF's. There always seems to be something of interest on the mixed freights, and today was no different. Maybe "Atlas" is dealing in prototype switches these days.

PA Tom, THAT is how we got a turnout/switch out at the museum a couple years ago. Yep prefabed and quickly put together on site. Slick. The switch connects the new siding where the 1941 NYC Empire Express cars will be finally housed and the Livonia, Avon, & Lakeville Mainline going by on the old Erie line at the museum.
Went over to school to see the Sunday Matinee of Oliver put on by the Drama Club at the High School. They did a great job as usual and I have fun seeing some old friends and students. Felt kinda funny being in the audience instead of at the sound console.......... The new sound company they hired to do the sound did an excellent job considering how little time they had to get it done (less than a week). I caught a few dropped entrances, but all told it was a good and transparent job for the sound.
I think the mower will need to be gotten out tomorrow if the rain holds off..... About half the neighborhood has already done the first mowing of the season. THAT usually doesn't happen until early May around here. We are are about 2 to 3 weeks ahead of normal.
Think I will mosey on down to the train room and see what I could get into for a while.

Good evening. Hope everyone enjoyed their Sunday. Just waitin' for Brenda to return from the baby shower up the street. Hamburgers, fried cheesy potatoes, fried apple bites, we're trying Bush's Vegetarian beans and an egg roll.
Trainshow was pretty good. I got some (8 because I may use more some day, who knows)Texas & Pacific steam decal sets by Champ for 50 cents a piece. Got a T& P gondola for $3. Saw a few things I'd like to have, but don't need . A couple things I need but don't have. And several things I needed, couldn't find, and had to go to the bay to get, and now are just floating around all over now that I don‘t need them. The railroad I work for can't afford to just go out and buy everything at once. Of course I haven't checked my lottery numbers yet. Things may change.
Highlight, though was I got to meet Inch and his wife Deb face to face. Real nice folks. I left as they were waiting to get on the train ride. We had to get to the store and back home for the baby shower. I think I saw him with a camera, so if you ask real nice he might just post a picture.
Didn't get to the layout as planned other than to put the car on the tracks and give it a bit of a shove. Needs some freeing up of the wheels. Doesn't roll free so some cleaning of the axle sockets should do the trick. For 3 bucks can't expect the world and it does have body mounted metal couplers. Looks a bit small for K-D's we'll see how they mate up and hold some other day.
Welp Brenda just pulled up and Missy's going ballistic so time to make supper.

Good evening Diners: Going through the No-Forum thing was a bit like going through an eclipse! Mind you, it was over way earlier than I had expected, so I was still busy doing the odd jobs mrr-wise that I had set myself as a Diner-withdrawal anti-dote. Got some issues sorted, but not to my entire satisfaction as I was trying to get Rule 17 lighting effects progammed into my locos with Digitrax decoders. Turns out that, unlike TCS, Digitrax does not support dimming of LEDs within a range of values,(CV 64) and the slight dimming that they pre-program into their decoders for Rule 17 doesn't actually work when the loco comes to a stop. You have to put the direction control into the opposite direction for the dimming of the direction of travel headlight to take effect. Remind me again why I bought those Digitrax decoders? However, I did do some hardwiring of those drop-in decoders, for better sustained performance - another "get a round tuit project. Also, the Atlas GP38-2 now has the horn positioned where GEXR 3856 has it - albeit just a 3 chime, not the fancy looking effort the prototype has.(Edit...and as of 9:45pm. Atlantic, sunshades! I'd forgotten how cool these looked when i put them on my HO locos.)
Sounds like I'd better take my tea to the RC!

I'm having a go at taking apart the freight/passenger building, where I found the spare fork lift; so I can paint it in MT colours. I'm all inspired seeing how the small station turned out. Who knows, maybe I'll even build the station kits I've had on hand for about 3-4 years! Whoever built this particular building sure loved glue! A #5 blade in the X-Acto seems to be doing the job though.

Went into town for dinner tonight. When I was ready to come home the darn car wouldn't start. The starter would just click and that was all. I called my father and he brought his car and his jumper cables. I didn't think they'd do much but it kicked right over. That shows me that I have a possible battery problem. When I got home I shut it down and tried starting it again. You guessed it. CLICK! Tomorrow I'll put the charger on it and make sure the cells are topped up. If it still gives me a problem I'll have to talk my father into getting me a new battery. That ones been in there since about 2002. And it's not cheap. The car has a 155 amp alternator and takes a 900 amp battery. It burns up just about anything less.

I went down to train room for a bit and installed more new flooring in the Engine House. Oh, I don't thing I told you, after tearing up the Logging operation on the mountain, I was hoping to reuse the base I had built a couple months ago for the base/floor for the engine house,but it was glued way too well to the plywood it was on. I also decided i didn't do a very good job putting down the 1'x4' flooring. Not to mention I just read THAT most of these engine houses, if they had wood floors (which they often did back in the early 1900s) used much heavier flooring, more like 2"x10" or larger. Hence the redo of THAT!
Speaking of engine houses, how about the restoration barn at thr R&GV Museum. Yesterday they got our old RG&E 45 tonner # 1941 moved out of the shop under her own power! She has been in the building being restored for a few years now and it is hoped she will be put in service this Summer for Museum Rides. Oh, so I never talked about the Big City Classic!I was only able to stay for the first game, Hofstra vs. Delaware. It was such an AMAZING game! Close the entire time, plenty of action. Hofstra won (I wanted them) 12-11 although Delaware scored with 1.5 seconds left in the 4th quarter. Talk about a close game! Kinda random, but Delaware had such SICK jerseys!Was also able to see the 1st quarter of the Virginia/North Carolina game, which was good, but not quite as good. When I left, VA was winning 3-0. I know they won but IDK the final score. I dunno who won the Princeton/Syracuse game, though.The New Meadowlands Stadium was really nice. And it was SO CLEAN! But only because this was the first (yes, the first event was LACROSSE, which seemingly no one cares about...) event there. Also saw the new (opened back in the summer) Meadowlands Station, the only station on NJT's Sport Line. Very nice.
I have a few photos of the station and game, and a few seconds of video with Hofstra scoring. No trains at the station though, because service only operates during football games, at least until (IF) Xanadu (ginormous mall thing they're building but stopped because [I think] lack of money. Neat fact- it has an indoor ski slope in it) opens.
Well, I have school tomorrow (UGH, it's that moment of "break is over, I wanna see some people, but not go back to school" feeling), so I gotta go.

Well, clumsy me with my numb hands. I just dropped my Nikon L18 and busted the lens. I just ordered a refurbished Nikon L18 from Overstock.com. I should have it within 2 weeks. Until then I'll have to depend on my trusty though woefully obsolete Olympus D550Z.
