Most signs are pre-1970 as that is the era I model, but many of these signs survive in rural & small towns beyound this time frame. Feel free to use these signs on your buildings & layouts. Also can you post some photographs to share so others can see how best to use these signs.

I model MKT & CB&Q in Missouri. A MUST SEE LINK: Great photographs from glassplate negatives of St Louis 1914-1917!!!! http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mo/county/stlouis/kempland/glassplate.htm Boeing Employee RR Club-St Louis http://www.berrc-stl.com/

Tomkat - you forgot one! Laugh

Blown away! Either you work in advertising or are shooting for sainthood. 30 pages of signs, etc? Can you say MOTHERLOAD! Simply impressive! I give this post a hardy '10+'! Thanks for the work you did to bring it to us. I am definately saving this link/thread.

Hi Frank

Try this..... http://www.licenseplates.tv/1954-oklahoma-state-license-plate-7591.html

If you go to each state listed you will find plates for various years. I have found 30's, 40's, 50's and more modern plates. I 'save picture as' and then shrink to size. I use Macromedia Fireworks and import, make to required size and print. But I'm sure this can be done with all sorts of other software out there. Anyway, have a look at the link and I hope they are of use.

Barry,

Thanks for the reply and info. I have already tried some license plates and reduced them on my color printer.....but the only problem, they were all the same number and state. I was hoping to find a source that had a large variety on one sheet, paper, decal, doesn't matter. I am assembling a very large fleet of trucks/trailers and license plates would give them that added plus. I was hoping Tomcat had already run across something that I would like to have, sent a PM, but no reply.

Thanks Again.

Frank

I am trying to assemble water tower (in TT scale)

But I've got some painting defect on the tank side.

(I suppose, I had dropped a bit of glue on it, so my attempts to paint it by "oak" stain failed)

Maybe I can mask it, hide it by some advertising board. But I wonder, if it will be acceptable. Will it be realistic?

I tried to find some photos of old water towers, but could not find any boards. Some painting, graffiti, but no boards.

Did they ever hang any advertising boards on water tanks/towers?..

Dear Tom, First, thanks for this tremendous project. I have 2 questions: 1. Some said there was a zip file of all the images on photobucket. When I click on download, it only brings up the current page. How do I locate the zip file? 2 When I pull out images so I can get them printed at a copy shop, what's the proper size for HO scale? Thanks again for doing this, and for any help you can give me. Blessings, Barry Kolp

I do not know anything about a Zip File.

As for as HO scale:

1 inch = 7.25 HO Feet or 87 HO inches.

1/2 inch = 3.625 HO Feet or 43.5 HO inches.

1/4 inch = 1.81 HO Feet or 21.75 HO inches

1/8 inch = .90 HO feet or 10.875 HO inches

I use card stock for bill boards & painted signs.

Just save image or copy & paste. You can re-size for N scale. I print metal or enamel signs on photo paper. For billboards I use card stock. For posters you could use just paper. You can weather with powders. I use double sided tape to sick them on. You should darken the edges after you cut out the signs. I guess you could use decal paper but I have not tried that yet. Signs make your models & layout come alive!  Please post photos of your usage of the signs.

Another great source of signs IF you have MR All Access Pass. Over the years MR printed signs and billboards in the magazine to be cut out and used on our layouts. For instance, I just came across March 1981 issue with scale feed mill signs on page 118.

Welcome ARS,

I am not an Old Timer here except in my age. I have been on these forums since 2006 and I can't remember any other posting from Russia, and very few in TT scale. But I am glad you are on board.

There were some Railroads that put their own logo on their water tanks but I do not believe anything else of a commercial nature. also water tanks were way before any of the graffiti taggers were born.

Keep in touch with us, we would be very interested to learn more about your layout and modelling in Russia.

Thank you for your kind words. So, I beleive, the board with the road name will be acceptable?..

TT scale is quite popular in Russia (in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine, some other Eastern European countries too). But I like American style of railroading (and technical equipment at all), so I decided to model American railroad. Yes, I know that it is quite unusual for TT scale :)

I will try to model TT-version of "Virginian" layout. Will tell about it in separate thread.

Does anyone have artwork or know where to get anything for Associated Transport? It was an LCL trucking company back East. My Grandfather worked for them and Brown's Trucking for 45 years until 1969. I'd like to have some AT trucks on the HO layout.

Thanks,

Roger Huber

Yellow Box Kit that I got at the Boeing RR Club St Louis Swap Meet for $8. I used gap filling / gel super glue, gray primer & powder to weather.

Sorry if the secret is buried deep inside this thread, I've read as many comments as I could. My question is: How do I download the billboard type signs so that I can print them out without them being distorted in some way? I'm not sure if it's pixelation, but let's say there is thin black lettering on the billboard, no matter what I do (I click to the pic's original page, then save it at 600 dpi on Irfanview) the lettering looks like there are small crosshatches or gaps.

Really love these signs as graphics are on of my fields of interest, just can't figure out how to transfer them flawlessly for my needs.

Thanks for any help,
Mike

BigDaddy

Following the link in Tomkat's signature, I found this.  What in the world?

Looking at many of the other construction photos I'd say they were backing this car onto a temporary "trestle" so fill could be dumped and the timbers gave out. The engine is sitting on rather loose fill.

Lots of fill work was done that way sometimes shifting the entire track like our flex track, or jacking the track up with timbers and continuing the fill as the level increased.

Not much in the way of compaction as is the practice today.

Interesting photos!
