Agreed. The AOL boards is for ranting about the state of the hobby. Problem is, many can't take the flames they entice.

Well, that was interesting reading. Didn't want it to go orange vs. purple though. I especially enjoyed the ozone comments... If you don't get blue arcs, you don't have real power! I have an ionic breeze in the corner of my basement. 2 loops of standard gauge(200,500 series) and 3 of tin plate O. However, I believe mine cost a little more, and will resell better.
As for MTH. I don't care for his business practices. We always respect the person who is humble, works hard, and makes his million(s), vs. the person, who gets their million through the lotto, frivalous lawsuit, or stealing whatever to make a million,and then puts it in your face. As a person who spent 12 years in the maching world(machinist and mostly Tool and cutter grinder),Mike's tinplate products are near perfect. He does great reproductions, as he did for Lionel years ago. You can put lionel plates on his cars, and not really tell the difference. That could be a whole new thread, besides how reproductions have affected collector value.
One last thought. I recently attended the fall York show,with a very experienced man in this industry/hobby. That was an amazing show, especially for a first timer!!! Secondly because who I was with. We went through the buildings, at a fair pace, looking for what we desired. I watched him, how he talked to "dealers", how he played off as just another Joe, and then how he recieved respect from MTH, Lionel, Atlas, and a gentleman from O Scale Forum(?),who knew who he was. I've seen him talk to people, in a very humble way, taking their blow hard attitude, and not even flinch, or come back at them in anyway.When I first witnessed these incidents, I was like a young tiger ready to pounce, but he would look over to me, grin and wink. Now I just sit back and watch...It's funny! Only when he is with his closest friends, collectors, and associates; will he get slightly opinionated, and maybe put some vigor in his voice. He indirectly, got me back into this hobby, and has been mentoring me since. I hope that some day I'll learn his professionalism and restraint, and be able to fill his large shoes. Thanks all.

I buy what I like, Hot Wheels, Mopars, Lionels....what ever. Competition makes everything better, price and quality. I have some K-Line, and I like the quality and the price. I HAD some MTH rolling stock, and I wasn't impressed, sold 'em off or returned 'em to my LHS. Just didn't like 'em. My choice & opinion. My LHS had a CNJ Camelback, which just made me crazed. I really wanted it, just @$350... too much for my pocketbook...BUT I did like the demo and the unit (PS1?, don't remember).
Legacy is Lionel. Dad has 'em. Mom went shopping with me (in NJ) and she asked me 'Who is this MTH?" long story Mom......
In the battle of the Muscle Cars..I'll take a Mopar, curse the Chev or Ford....BUT!! Get us next to a 'ricer burner' and we're all friends.

You're a brand loyalist, apparently, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that, if that's what floats your boat.
I do my buying based on the product--era, type, roadname, etc.--and couldn't care less what name is on the box. That gives me the widest possible selection and all the product I could possibly want, and more. I doubt if anyone could assert that is a bad thing.

Yes, the 100 Year Bridge Company manufactures their bridges and shipping boxes in the USA. There was a photo on the forum a while back - I think Blueberry Hill Chuck posted it - with that message printed boldly on teh box.
If I need a bridge - I will by it from them, unless a post war Lionel original would fit teh bill.
Funny thing about cars The "American" cars are made from foreign and domestic parts while "foriegn" auto makers are investing in manufacturing plants in the USA And with those mfg. plants come supporting businesses(also forgiencompanys)

Oh, yeah, there's a formula for that....100hp ricer + 50 stickers @ 10hp each (EXCEPT!! NOS stickers and Vtech stickers are like 500 each) = 600hp. AND! don't forget that used chrome 5 lb coffee can for the (annoying) exhaust!!! At least another 100hp!
But the aside to this is that while Chrysler made it, I BUILT IT!! (You may insert Chevy Ford in your instance to substitute Chrysler)!
But...it's all good!!
