Colin :You are probably right, I'm not sure though, cause I was taught a long time ago that Henry Duryea invented the first car ! I think he was a Frenchman. Thanks Colin ! !

What about Charles Durant ???
Do you know where they made the Duesenberg cars ???
I thought it was Caractacus Potts?
Stayed up too late again, this time watching Snakes on a Plane - no memorable characters. Sam Jackson is pretty good, but the writing isn't there. Good special effects.
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Answers: Charles Durant was called the " Father of Chevrolet ".
Duesenberg cars were built in Cleveland, Ohio
Somebody had to answer.
Chuck : I didn't answer cause you told me that before !! I didn't think it would be fair for me to win the "Grand Prize" that way !! I knew you were offering your new Hundred Year bridge for the prize, too !!
Thanks, John
Rtraincollector, as mentioned, the greenberg's price guide would be a place to start, not sure if they will have your exact set. The TCA might also have some information. I am not familiar with the set, but if you start a new thread, it may get a better response from someone more familiar.
Welcome to the forum.

Good afternoon all from Central Ohio. Everyone here is gearing up for the BIG Game tomorrow evening. I'm hoping that the Gators and the Buckeyes can put on at least as good a show as Boise St did last week. Heaven forbid, but I'm rooting for the Gators.
I'm pulling for the Eagles in the NFC. I've always thought Jeff Garcia was a great QB. Indy gets pounded next week in B-more. They beat a mediocre KC team that was lucky to be in the playoffs to begin with. True, they beat 'em but we'll see when they come up against the best defense in the league on the road. GO RAVENS!!! It's gonna be a Baltimore Philly SB this year.
Watch out for NE - they were ONLY 12-4 thiis year and are the 2nd scariest team in the playoffs in my opinion (Ravens being the first).
Spankybird: That is a cool photo of the train and car. You have a great layout, as most of the guys here do that posts pix. I can only hope that when I finally start my permanent layout that I've learned enough here to make it right.
All have a great day and a great week.

Afternoon all!
I have spent the last 2 days helping my wife build a 2 PC network at her office. A project like this (just like a home repair project) required 4 trips to the local computer store. They are really nice as they take the things you buy (i.e. I bought the wrong router) back with no questions and let you get the item you really needed. Anyway - this became a 2 day ordeal and culminated with me working at her office for 9 hours, finally ending at about 8:30 pm last night.
Then I got to come home and watch the Cowboys further implode. Talk about snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory - how would you like to be Tony Romo this morning? Well there is always next year!
Then after the Cowboys, I needed to wrap up a couple of work items for my trip tomorrow and my laptop crashed hard. Looks like the HD has bad sectors. Luckily I had just purchased a new laptop for Christmas and I had not intended to set it up until after my trip next week. So guess what I have been doing late last night and this morning? I also happen to have a nice little device that lets me pull the laptop HD and stick into a USB adapter to turn it into an external drive. As the damaged areas are typically in the program areas, I was able to hook it up to my new LT and grab all my data files and Outlook files and put thm ontp the new PC HD. Just what I wanted to do - spend my entire weekend wrangling PCs (sort of like herding cats).
Anyway - so far I have been successful. I will be out in Phoenix all next week, so I may not be able to drop in. Week after next we go back to NYC to dismantle and pack the Grand Central Terminal layout and ship it back to Texas for storage.
Have a great day and a great week all!
Regards, Roy

I'm gonna play the smart*** again but...Duesenbergs were originally built in Indianapolis, Indiana, where their Model A racing machines gained fame on the race track. Later the cars were built in Auburn, Indiana when E.L. Cord bought the Duesenberg company, encouraging the 2 Duesy brothers to produce the famous Model J. The only major outsourcing of parts for Auburn /Cord/ Duesenberg cars would have been Lycoming engines, built in Pennsylvania, just a few mile north of where Laz lives.

I knew I'd get someone to answer that question. Thanks.
Just a Hobo wrote: rtraincollector before you go through the nightmare with an insurance company like i did one time when my house was robbed ... here's what you have to do or they won't pay . Pictures of each engine and car - value in written form from a dealer/store/collector - and a copy of the catalog with the values listed and a specail collector's insurance policy. I got burnt and lost alot because they wanted all that and was not informed by them until I tried to file the claim ! Not to bash any insurance company but STATE FARM is the worst one to try to get paid ! People in florida found that out also and still they are the only company not yet paying those poor people ! And guess what guys if you have a good policy "homeowners " and you drop that $1,000.00 engine she's covered ! Ask your agent for detailed coverage procedures ... most people don't ask and believe me they won't volunteer it ! By the way adding on that " special " as they call it coverage is only a couple dollars a year extra.
Just a Hobo I was looking at a private insurance company for just collectables there in your backyard basicly there in Westminester, MD. there called collectibles Insurance Company. Know anything about them? Claim don't need a complete list just a general list well i would have to give a good list as I'm over $5000.00 in fact I'm about doubled that in Lionel which isn't hard to do these days even with stuff 20 years old although mine dates back as far as 1927 (standard set) have 2 other prewar sets O gauge and a lot of post war and then comes the newer stuff it ends about 1990 or so.
i'm still making my list up so my final total is going up yet.
The set isn't a true lionel set as it has been repainted another scheam so I'm just putting down $45.00 a car figuring it would cost at least that to have somebody do it and do it right.

That Honor goes to Louis Chevrolet who was one of the first race car driver's over 90 years ago & built his own car's. The Founder of General Motor's who's name was Billy Durant bought out Louise Chevrolets' Company along with Buick,Cadillac, & Oldsmobile around 1907. David Dunbar Buick was the founder of Buick, Henry Leland Started Cadillac.(& later the Lincoln Motor Co before Henry Ford bought them out in the 30s) Ransom Eli Olds Founded Oldsmobile & Durant bought him out also. BTW- Ransom Eli Olds was Born in Geneva,Ohio on the Main Rd in Town (Rt 20) which is about 30 Mi east of Willoughby & was a stop on the old New York Central Railroad as well. The AC Delco Division of General Motors was set up after a fellow named Charles Kettering who invented the Electric Starter for Automobiles & is a Dayton native where Delco was based & they helped develop different Electronic's & Inventions for GM (Radio's, Air Conditioning, etc) He also became an executive for General Motors in the late 20s. On another note about Ransom Eli Olds. He set up the R.E.O. Company that manufactured Truck's after he sold his automotive business to Billy Durant & was quite successful at it until the demise of the company in the 40s?. Take Care all.
That was a very informative answer, Keith. I must admit that I knew that. After 33 years with Chevrolet , you learn the history. I just wanted to know how long it would take for someone to correct me. Thanks for the fun.

Good evening all,
It was one of those cold, wet, rainy, miserable days in SE Indiana that makes you wish you were any place else other than the Hoosier state. Having said that, it was a quiet day here. We went to 11 AM church, stopped in at my dad's, ate lunch, and I went to the YMCA. I took a little nap and had supper. Excitement plus?! Blueberry Hill, enjoyed your comments about the early auto industry. Desperate Housewives is on tonight. Yippee! I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Wet out. Grandkids just left. We ran trains and looked at a few CTT mags, then they made cookiebars with their Grandma. They're fun. Going to get the place cleaned up and chill out for a bit.
Leave youall with another pic

Evenin' All.
Nice and warm here today, but if you went outside you'd better a couple of cinder blocks in your pockets. The wind was really howling today, I was a bit concerned about a few of these big eucalyptus trees on the back of the property. At least the wind was from the ESE so if they went down or dropped any limbs chances are they would have gone away from the house. The red flag warning is still up til late tomorrow afternoon, 80*+ tomorrow.
Have a safe trip Chief, don't use to much of that maple syrup. Wouldn't want to see corrupted by a Yankee Conspiracy.

Jim F, Diecast Direct has a great model of that flying car. Mr Potts was a genius. I remember seeing that movie as a lad in a drive-in. That dates me a bit.
Got my self another nice one from eBay today I got a 6414 Evans loader with OB and it appears to be in great shape (everything) Will tell more when I get it on wed or Thursday but it appears to be ex condition had it listed under other scales I just happened to come across it by accident . I like those accidents lol
Not much else happening around here stating to get 2nd bedroom cleared up so I can start working on it to get it ready for my train layout. It will be about 7' X 13'.
So not real big but big enough I guess as that's all the room I have.
Later
Ran a few wires for my Hobo ville. got them working. Now to set some time this week and hook up gantry crane,787 log loader and the conveyor log loader along with the giz sawing the log animated feature.
All have a good nite.
Wanted to try this pic post?
I think it worked the copy and paste method.
LAz looks good heres the car I just won
Been a wet and gloomy day today. Currently under a tornado watch, just on the fringes. The weathe is moving this way from down Dennis's (dwiemer) way, they've been under tornado warnings most of the afternoon. No mention of any touchdowns on the news, and not too many in the Giants - Eagles game either.
Spent time, on and off, today prepping a Mikado for renumbering, got the old numbers & name stripped off and repainted the areas. I have to find a semi-gloss black a little glossier, the Krylon semi-flat is a little too flat. Guess I'll try Rustoleums American accents tomorrow. The job wasn't as bad as I anticipated.
