The New Year even came to Alaska only a little later than everyone else but we finally made into the same year as the rest of the ya-all! (Us Sourdoughs in Alaska can speak several languages such as Rebel, Ranger and even a little Hillbilly:)Up late or early which ever way you look at it and I thought I would catch up on some reading I have been to busy this week to sneek time to check in since Christmas Day. So from the Northland I hope everyone had a great first day of 2007. (I tried to post this message yesterday but our server went down while I was typing so it is a day late.)
Life in the north is getting brighter every day now since we are making are way back to the fine days of the arctic midnight sun! It is only 3minutes and 45 seconds longer than yesterday but hey it is longer not shorter so that calls for an Alaskan YaHoo for longer days!
Regards from the Freezer!

OOPS!

Still a lot though.

Good morning, everyone.
Going to be a warm week here in New England. I hope I'm feeling better by next weekend so I can attend the train show at the Wenham museum. Had I known about the show, I would not have given my wife my $150 Christmas cash to buy Chinese food for everyone on New Year's Eve!!! Doh!!! Easy come, easy go.
I picked up the kid's new engine on Friday. James from the Thomas line by Lionel. It's very light, doesn't seem to have magnatraction, and has a tether for the electronics in the tender. All said, I don't think it's as nice as Thomas or Percy.
Belated Happy Birthday to Laz!
Great to speak with Doug Murphy this weekend. Doug, I could have talked with you for hours.
Have a great day, all!

Belated Happy New Years to all. Good morning, got some kind of a cold chest infection, had me out for the count for the last few days, hope things improve today or its the quack for me!
76 posts in its first 24 hours this is going to be another biggy. At this rate there will be close on 70,000 by mid 2010.
Phew!!
Hello All,
This is my first official post to the coffee pot.... I figured for 2007 I might as well do a few things different.
Oh, and Happy New Year.... as always, I am a day late and a dollar short, but better late than never.
I'm heading to the Museum of Science and Industry today to see the Great American Train Story. Will try to take pictures of that and the Burlington Zephyr. Gotta make the most of my last day before heading back to school and work. The holiday break was good (I was off of school and work for 6 weeks, but still collecting my check ), but now it is time to be productive and work for a degree again.
Have a great day, everyone!
Here we go!
Do I come here often? It says on my TOG's sweat shirt.
Stockport is wet and very windy it blew the fireworks out on the big night.
My niece who I haven't seen for ten years is coming to see me in March, I wonder what she'll make of Lionel? Got to get the paint pots out to spruce this batchelor pad up. My dear lady refers to it as a cross between an office, a train shed and a doss house. Aah well!

Sorry Colin - I don't get to watch the Miami CSI - something about all those bathing suited beauties, I guess, but my wife doesn't care for that one. We do watch the regular CSI show though.
Got my RH switch added for a spur to the sawmill, but ran out of straight track. Checked 2 of my log cars - one dumps great, but the other one won't lift the same number of logs - with a few less, it dumps fine though. Need more straight sections and a bumper though.
My sawmill is a 464 - trying to figure out how to get the dump cars to drop the logs in the right hand bin. I guess I need to elevate the track, or lower the sawmill. My whole layout is on foam board atop a table. I might just cut through the foamboard, which would drop the sawmill down about 3/4 inch I think.... Will just let the kids do a "sneaker net" and handle the logs from a tray to the sawmill for now though. I really like my 194 Copper Range Lionel 0-6-0. Great little locomotive for the money (got it on ebay from a breakup).
The bathroom drawer from the builder was made of press board with a decal. Slammed it the other day and the front dropped off - it was just stapled together. Anyway, picked up a few feet of poplar today and my son and I planed it down to 1/2 inch, then ripped it, put a dado in for the bottom, dadoed in slots on the sides to help stabilize it, and glued/screwed it today. Tomorrow we'll attach the false front that was on the old drawer as well as the slides and put it back, about 100 percent better than new. Why don't they make anything out of real wood anymore? Oh well - did get to make some sawdust with my son, which is always a good way to spend a few hours. Then we cleaned up and went to Smokey Bones for dinner (Christmas gift card). I had the NY Strip steak with a backed tater and green beans. Let him order off the adult menu - he wanted ribs!!!! I pointed out a guy eating them at the next table and he could see there wasn't much meat, so went for a big burger instead - whew!!! My wife had chicken covered in sawmill gravy with mashed taters and my daughter had chicken fingers off the kids menu. Then home to watch Avengers dvds with Mrs. Peel
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Evenin' All !
Wow! The bowl games must have been really boring today, everyone has been busy posting to "The New Pot" today.
It was really nice driving in to the museum this morning, no traffic at all. No lane hoppers, tailgaters and especially no stop-n-go traffic. A little slow at first, sleeping off the party I guess, but it got pretty busy later in the day. One little boy, maybe 5yo, was in hog heaven in there. I didn't think his mother was ever going to get him out of there, they'd leave and pretty soon here they come again.

I just cranked up my old Victorola and played my favorite record ( 78 ). Jimmy Durante sings.." Young at Heart ".
Good Night.
Speaking of Victorola and cranking, I've got one of those at Mom's. Was my Grandparents and was left to me. Big nice wooded furinture about chest high. Open top doors for speaker. Lower doors hold records. Still got 1920's records. Wind it up and it plays.
I see Marty made it home OK.
Later.
Laz, glad your first down on the downhill side was good - sorry about the weather and no hunting for you. Here in NC, it was the LAST day of the season. Whatever will I do with my husband underfoot? Can't seem to get him interested in my trains. Oh, well. Anyway, since you don't like grits, just thought I'd send you some jerky - made 2 kinds - had 8 trays total, so it took most all day with a 4 tray dehydrator. Just finished cutting up a nice tenderloin to soak overnight for a venison stew for tomorrow. Enjoy the jerky!

Just when I thought miracles were fiction, the KC Chiefs sneak into the playoffs! After Denver lost, the first aerial bombs went off in the neighborhood, several hours before the New Year. I guess I will have at least one more football game to watch although I do follow other NFL teams. On the otherhand, the Missouri Tigers loss was frankly shameful for me but really tough on those players.
But those are just games. Some folks on this forum have weathered some tough times, some have suffered loses. While I am thankful for my blessings, I do think about those folks and pray for healing. Regards to all in 2007.
Happy New Year to one and all.
Just stopped in to see if my avatar was working. Took some advice from the “Hints for newcomers thread”, and am updating my profile. I will also be taking Thor’s advice in that thread regarding how we come across in writing, to heart.
Here’s to a great new year.

Wow! Took a long time to get caught up. Had three/four pages on the old pot to read and this one is already up to four pages.
Buckeye, condolances to you, your wife and family. Losing a family member is always difficult.
Laz, Turned fifty a few years ago, hardly remember it now. Memory fades fast, I think I'm 53. As for getting primed, there are pills for that.
Been a busy day. Took down Christmas tree and other decorations. Seems that takes longer after 50 too. lol
Here is wishing everyone in the pot a "Happy New Year."
"And Mom and Dad [and some on this forum] will be glad when school starts again."
Off to Inlaws for dinner. Got some work done upstairs. Later

Happy New Year ALL!
Had my Dunkin Donuts coffee & crossaint. Here in the Northern outpost of Florida it is dark drizzly and 70, very humid. Waffle House rules, just keep them grits fer someone else, PLEASE!!!
We'll dismantle the Christmas stuff on Saturday, the traditional end of the Christmas season, then try to find a new home for the Pemberton & Hightstown railway. The wife is hinting the garage, as I'm seriously considering selling off the car (and those related parts) and ALL the Hot Wheels. Something to mull over the next short work week!

Well, it's better, but it still ain't good yet. In order to post, I have to completely disable my firewall, even though I have told it to trust this site one hundred percent. But it is better than it used to me, at least I can post by disabling the firewall.
Drinking some Cafe Bustello Cafe con Leche, or Cafe con Lecher as I used to call it when I was younger and feistier. Got a ham hock boiling for the collards, and the black eyed peas and hog jowl are already. The brisket just signaled that it was ready, so let me test post this and see how it goes.
Happy NEW YEAR all you guys.

Happy New Year everyone.
Slept late this morning then took down outside Christmas decorations and stored them away, then watched Penn State beat Tennesee. When I finnaly got around to the Pot it already had three pages.
Also took my Christmas train off the layout and stored it away.
Laz, Think of it as starting your second half century!
zwbob, That sounds like a PA New Years day dinner.
