Laz - very sorry to hear of your loss.  He is in a better place, although I know you will miss him.  God bless you and his family and friends.

John Baker - glad to hear you can continue to Party On DUDE!

The Norton debacle continues! 2 days ago got a word from my computer the Norton was up - need to renew or upgrade.  Decided to upgrade via a download of the software.  Did it.  Some error occurred.  Followed their directions - no good.  Ran their utility that uninstalled all Norton.  Reinstalled everthing.  Tried again yesterday - no good.  Internet Security is working but not systemworks.  It wont configure/activate itself.  Sooo - I get home tonight and try again, no good.  Call support.  Talk to David in Iran (or someplace).  He forwards me to tech - talk to Joe (yeah, right).  He talks to me for a while, then forwards me to Ralph (again, right).  I'm still in Iran, I think.  Ralph has me do this and that for about 1/2 hour.  Then he has me run some dang thing and he takes over my computer - mouse pointer clicking here and there, updated IE, etc.  Reboots - no good.  So he tells me to run the uninstall program.  Then run three update patchs for the registry.  Then reinstall systemworks first.  Then run liveupdate and configure/activate.  Then install Internet Security last - don't I know that is the correct order?  Uh, nope.  So I did it.  Guess what?  No good - Internet Security updates and activates and it's all good, but systemworks remains broke.  Banged Head [banghead]

I'm just going to wait a week and see if they don't distribute a fix via liveupdate.  I know that it activated 2 days ago but not yesterday and there were updates from Windows both nights, so I suspect that Microsoft bottom blew their program.  I'll bet a dollar (or a dinar or whatever) that they distribute a liveupdate fix for this i nthe near future.

Back through Yankee lines without getting shot at.  Good to be in the good old SOUTH.   Think being shot at would be better than going through Washington Reagan and trying ot get on an US Airways Express.  What a screwed up mess.

Now let me explain this:  Got off the plane, no directions.  All of us that had to find gate 35 through 36 had to go on a shuttle [not like Philly that has signs and directions].  All of us finally find a small sign.  We had to go out a gate on the jetway ramp [meeting folks getting off of a plane] and when we got to the plane, go right down the stairs to the concrete.  Now we got in this tiny bus and went all of 200 feet.  Got out of the bus, went up the steps to another jetway ramp while folks were boarding the plane that was there [traffic jam gelore].  You end up in this hall with some gate attendants at a long desk.  They tell everyone to wait they will announce the flights.  Mass confusion.  Finally they call RDU and give a different gate number than listed on sign and screen.  We go down escalator.  At the bottom there are ladies with US Airways shouting at folks and giving orders.  Hey, I'm back in the Army in 1968-69.  We load of a bus, we wait, gate attendant calls a guys name, double booked seats, gets this fixed [we are still sitting crammed on a bus], we wait [begin to wonder if it is WWII and the N a z i s are running the airline and we are going to be gassed][had to spread that word out as software put in *], finally a lady and two small children get on confused as all get out, then we finally move.  During all of this, everyone getting on keeps asking the ones that got on earlier, "Is this the bus to the RDU flight?"  We ride out to the middle of the airport taxi way and get off.  Board a plane [the crew saying, "It's about time."] that was suppose to be gone minutes ago.  Well, as we get ready to taxi, the flight attendant asks all of us sitting up front, "Would two people from rows 1 thru 5 got back behind row 9.  " WHAT!!!!  I have over 45,000 miles with US airways and some more with AA and Delta.  Never heard of such.  Bet the weight distribution was wrong on the plane.  Why?  The Co-pilot was this big blonde Amazon that weighed about 300 lbs.  How she got in the cockpit, I do not know. After all of this we left, 45 minutes late and got to RDU on time. ????  Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]  Think I will write a book.

Had a great day.  Jim A and I went to Mountian Trains and then Charles Ro.  Had a big meal and he took me back to the airport.  He is always a great guy to visit.  Wish we lived closer to each other.  May be back up there the end of this month [to visit him, good; to train new reps, not so good].  Time for Popcorn.

Had to read pages since this AM.  Since I'm now senior citizen, can't remember all the comments to all of you guys I had planned.  A few I remember:

Laz, sorrry man.

Over 420 posts in 10 days.

Lots of new guys on the "Pot" which is great.

My picture in the bass boats was OK.  Thought Mr. Keller really had one over on me and had fixed me up good.

Mountain Trains, lady is really nice [I'm sure her husband owns it] and helpful.  You get a good feeling visiting there.

Charles Ro is BIG.  Nice place and lots of stuff [including MTH now].  Sorry the 0880 didn't get there.  Will try harder the next time.

Maple Syrup sure is good.

Later.

Laz,

I'll keep your friend in my evening prayers.  I'll be looking forward to the March issue, maybe we could get it autographed!

I had track on my shelves but needed the track so I removed it and never replaced it.  I think it does look better with track, but it is not worth spending a lot of $$.

I got the bookcase stained and while out today, I got some neat pics of the N&W yards in Portsmouth.  Here is a sample and I'll post more Sunday.  Here is a pic of some of my shelves without track, can't remember if I posted them before or not.

Laz, my condolences on your loss. I've lost some close friends in recent years, it is tough.

Put in 6 more catenary poles today. Just four more to complete the small loop. They are the hardest as the reach is longest on the layout. Probably won't happen for a few days as next two days are pretty well scheduled.  After that I will need to pick up the additional catenary I ordered.

Can't wait to see the coverboy on CTT.

Dennis, I know what you mean. When I was 40, that seems like a long time ago, my youngest was only 4. She is 32 now, time does fly.

Thanks Roger!  I have a nice package sitting next to me, but I can't open it till the morning.  I may be getting some more train stuffSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg].  One problem having my day so close to Christmas is that in years past, I would just get the second part of a Christmas present.  Kinda like "hey son, here are the batteries for the robot we got you a few weeks ago".  Anyway, it is special to be spending it with the family.

Laz, sorry to hear about your friend.  Most people are not aware of things like that that do happen all too frequently.  We do heart surgery and these days people expect it to be like having a ingrown toenail removed.  It is very fine work and the littlest mistake could be disasterous.  We have to be on the ball all the time, every time....the patient deserves it.

Kevin,

I too used Gargraves, had an abundance, and also set up an elevated row as well.  Trestles were plentiful.  The additional track view added a little to the package.  Nothing wrong with the shelving either.

I'm sure either will be great.

Attention all Forum People....

I just spoke to Mrs. Buckeye. Buckeye's lovely wife says he is still in bed with his scarlet and gray covers pulled over his head. The only sound he makes from time to time is a faint hum, to the tune of " HANG ON SNOOPY ".

Dr. Brutus Buckeye, who seldom makes house calls, is to arrive later today.

One other thing you could do is screw through the luan into the shelves to help prevent sag.  you would only need 3 or 4 per shelf.

When I do my room I am going to have two large windows between the main basement room and the train room.  These will be 4 ft wide x 4 ft tall, I plan to put 2 shelves at the top and one (using the sill as a second) shelf at the bottom and light them with 2 under the cabinet halogen bulbs, or I may look into those rope lights if I can find a way to hide them.  Then along the walls I am going to do something similiar to what Wes has done for his shelf system.

I have to get back to Pittsburgh and see if my tenants have tossed my old O-27 track, hopefully not because that is what I want to use in the windows (on tempered glass shelves) and around the walls.

BTW - Wife has approved the 2 track shelf system through the main basement!  That means I will have a VERY long 2 track mainline, as well as the 2 sub mainlines on the big layout for a total of 4 mainlines on the layout!  The LHS is going to love that track order!

Sorry folks...Mr. Keller was bending the truth about the Frankster holding the rod on the cover...truth is he is clueless about angling.  He came to TexASS to fish for the big largemouth hogs we have down here, but I took him to a special lake where we stocked some northern pike about ten years ago - now they are trophy size.

Anyway, all he was good for was rowing the boat...see pic

I am going to building some wall mounted train display cases in a few weeks and I have have not decided on just how to set the trains on the shelves.   I being a wood shop teacher, have made mine by using wood that is three quarters of an inch thick by 4inches wide, a true four inches you can go wider if you want.  I cut them to be 48 inches long, this way they won't sag as much with the shorter length.  For your sides you use the same demensions or what ever length you need.  I then set my table saws fence at 1 inch and raise the blade so it is about 3/8", then run a groove down the length of each piece.  I then move the fence out 1 and 1/8"  and run another groove down the length of the board.  For the sides I put a dado head on the table saw set the width at 3/4" set the height of the blade at 3/8" and run a groove crossgrain on the sides at about 5 inches apart.  I will then air nail it together.  I use some 1/4" luan for a solid back.  You can make them as wide as you want but there might be sag after time and the 4ftX 4ft. works good for handling.  You can paint or stain them to your liking.  Hope this helps?
