33 in Jacksonville, FLORIDA this morning. Another bout of freezing temperatures tonight. Has any one else read the report on CoilCouplers about MTH holdong up payments to foreign suppliers? Supposed to delay Lionel shipments. Don't understand the logic.

Fife - I'm still around... just barely.

Got the dental molding hung in the Master Bathroom yesterday.  Have to remove some grout and regrout the shower tonight, then reseal tomorrow.  Hopefully that will be the last of the grout work!  Replaced 1 of 2 closet door knobs yesterday... the second one didn't have holes in the trim plate! Banged Head [banghead] So its back to Lowes for another exchange!

Got the trees decorated on Saturday, also made the loop under the family room tree a little bigger (replace O36 curves with O45), the Christmas Passenger cars look a lot nicer on O45 instead of O36... which makes me wonder about O27!  There is no overhang at all on the O36 curves, but the 4-4-0 General pulls better around the O45 curves, could be that it is a bit underpowered to pull 5 passenger cars.

Anyhoo... laid the christmas layout out on the carpet Friday night.  WAY too big.  Needs to be 5.5 x 7.5 and it came out at 7 x 9!  Not sure what I did wrong.

Good mornning all,

It is cold in SE Indiana with temps in the 20s.  Yesterday all the events that were scheduled were canceled so we had a quiet day at home.  I did do some of the housework and went to church.  Church was not very full, either.  Yesterday had bacon and biscuits on the dining car, but just the usual fare this morning.  Lucas had his girlfriend over for a little while last night and the four of us played board games.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mel has given y'al the weather....sooooo

Been really busy.  Work been nutso, customers and inventory.  Took 3 weeks, finally got Chrsitmas decorating out of the way, tree up House lit, trains & trolley running!!!  I'll post pictures later today.  After being warm, like Mel sez, it's a little nippy.  The women folk are flying up to NJ tomorrow PM, so I'll get a few days peace & quiet with my son.  Probably go Christmas shopping with the daughter tonight then they're off.

(cnw1995)DOUGIE!!  You'll like the Atlas O trolley, the bride loves it...so I guess I can keep it.  The only this is that it run like a engine F/N/R, and there is no switch, which I think is odd.  A minor point to be sure, but it runs GREAT!!!  You'll love yours!!!!

Good morning from a freezing and grey Crystal Lake where I can't believe it didn't get online yesterday - too busy clearing snow from the neighbors and others I drove 'round to help after church. The bride successfully returned from Iowa with an Atlas switch tower for me!

I spent a quiet evening cleaning up the layout from the weekend's trackwork, and swapping James and Percy - so P now runs his freight through the tunnel under Mt Seaman and J runs the express on the center track. P can drill an interchange track with a run around - but without a front coupler, he'll just be pushing the troublesome trucks.

Doug, can you email me your cookie recipe?

Jerry, glad to have you drop in. Sounds like you had a fun summer and fall.

Jim S-F, thank you for sharing the interesting stuff about acolytes.

Chief, what a wonderous haul at that train show !! Can't wait to see your photos. I am jealous.

Mel, that's great news about the trolley - my Western Hobbycraft ones run the same way - F/Neutral/R. But I don't run them automatically so it doesn't matter.

Brutus, I'm glad you will be able to fix the HogEx car -- I watched the Order of Phoenix movie on Sat night and enjoyed the HogEx shots - the youngest and I also watched the Narnia movie with a great GWR train pulled by Bailey Manor. I love the old Godzilla movies - he's always wrecking a train.  Like John Allen, we always have a dinosaur to help us move cars in the yard.

Good morning fellas.  I have been running some trains lately.  Almost 3 times a day I go down there for 10 to 15 minutes.  My son insists that we go down before we go to the baby sitters, and as soon as we get home, and right before bed.  It's great.  He just watches the trains go around and around, and sometimes takes control.  He might adjust the speed a little, or turn the bell on, or honk the horn.  It looks like he actually knows what he is doing sometimes...

The neighbor's 3 year old girl came over for pizza last night.  She likes to crank the throttle all the way up, which is fine for the MTH, but not good for the Lionel Alaska set.  It can't go that fast without falling off the 0-31 corners, and I couldn't slow it down in time.  It fell off the upper level, but no damage done.  I'm just glad she enjoyed it!

Evening all,

Bought all the timber for the layout today. Went with 3/4" ply for the top with 9mm sundeala board on top of that. Sundeala is the UK version of Homosote. Its not cheap though at £34 a 8"X4" sheet. But if a jobs worth doing...

Frame is going to be from 3" x 2" pine. Got all that cut to length tonight. Posted some pics in "photo fun". Legs are going to be 2" Stainless Steel tube with adjustable feet.

Hope everyones had a good day.

Looks like Mayor McChief did well at the train show, the only thing I've ever gotten at the shows out here are sore feet from all the walking.

Nick, did the inspector pass everything?

Boy, Raleigh, that Orient Express engine looks fantastic - even if the photos in the MTH catalog were of an HO one.

Evening to all. Haven't checked in lately.  Been riding the eercise ike for 30 minutes each AM which is cutting down on forum time.  Very busy with work ,etc.  Like LAZ,  the storm  was a bust here in G'burg except for some ice.  We lost our big lilac bush (tree), the ice split it into about 6 or 7 pieces.  When things dry out,  and I have some time, I'll have to cut it up and shred the branches that will go through the chipper shredder.  Maybe Saturday or one day next week.   I also have to fill the firewood ring on the porch. We like to have a fire in the fireplace over the holidays.  Most days it is dark when I get home, so chores have to wait.  I also need to get shopping done for the Mrs.  Maybe I will go shopping after work tomorrow.  The Mrs. is complaining that i have not given her ideas for Christmas presents.  I have sort of decided that I really don't need a lot more rolling stock or engines right now.  I can't even display what I have.  I need to make time over the holidays to get out into the layout room and do some clean up and finish up some restoration projects that I started last Spring.

Things are going well with the school.  Been so busy with other school stuff too.  They were supposed to be starting the terazzo floors today. I will have to check when I am there tomorrow.

Hope everyone stays warm and cozy.  Brrr. It is chilly here.

Congratulations, CSXect!  It's going to be in the 40's later this week in St. Louis too.  Need to go down and play on the layout some more, but maybe tomorrow night...  Going on a field trip with son's school class Friday to the art museum.  It's a morning trip, but might sign him out and hit a couple hobby stores for supplies.

Sir James - another one sold for over $21 last night, after I "sniped" that one.  This car ends with digit 20.  Cars are numbered and I think they end with 18, 19 and 20.  I think 20 is a combo car with some passenger and then baggage at the end?

Art musem??? I have been to the Columbus art musem a few times some neat stuff. I was allways in the art class in high school never could draw people that well was more of an abstract artist paint/drawing(ink) and two sculpture(wood). Model railroading is an art as well.  I would like to learn to paint railroad scenes a big fan of the late Bobb Ross he made it look so easy.Bow [bow]

Have not messed with the C/C++ compiler in awhile if I could get to the level of understanding to where I could address inputs and outputs on the computer I could interface my layout and controll the trains from my pc(yes I know a command system would be the easy way). Also had an Idea for an adventure game with an interface to a home made weather station that was in the probe magazine when I was in Highschool anyway the Idea is to match the weather condition in the game enviroment to the real weather outside may be beyond my skills at the moment but thought that would be kinda cool.

heres one for you chief its the southern version to Rudolph the red nose reindeer

Leroy The Reindeer

Well, you've all heard the story
About Rudolph and his nose

But I'll tell you a Christmas tale
That never has been told
You may think you've heard it all
But you ain't heard nothing yet
About that crazy Christmas
The North Pole can't forget

Well, Rudolph was under the weather
He had to call in sick

So he got on the horn to his cousin Leroy Who lived out in the sticks
He said "Santa's really countin' on me
And I hate to pass the buck"
Leroy said "Hey, I'm on my way"
And he jumped in his pickup truck

When Leroy got to the North Pole
All the reindeer snickered and laughed

They'd never seen a reindeer in overalls And a John Deere tractor hat
Santa jumped in and said "Just hold on
Cause we've all got a job to do
And like it or not, Leroy's in charge
And he's gonna be leadin' you"

Chorus

And it was Leroy, the Redneck Reindeer
Hooked to the front of the sleigh
Deliverin' toys to all the good ole boys And girls along the way
He's just a down home, party-animal
Two-stepping across the sky
He mixed jingle bells with a rebel yell And made history that night

Before that night was over
Leroy had changed their tune

He had'em scootin' a hoof on every roof
By the light of the neon moon
Santa wrapped his bag with a dixie-flag
He was havin the time of his life
And you could hear him call
"Merry Christmas to ya'll
And to all of ya'll a goodnight"

Chorus

He mixed jingle bells with rebel yell
And made history that night

Life's hard, even harder if your stupid  John Wayne

Doug-  for my grandsons third birthday his mother gave him cake and ice cream, soooo his now famous statment was: who gave me banilla? I wanted chocolate. Sorry its that simple, but we use it.

Brutus its suppose to be the combo car. There was less than 30 minutes but I bid and went to bed. I expected someone would jump on it last minute. I'm happy I'll have a fourth car for  a lot less than a new freight car. Even if lionel sells add ons they will be more than that and the kids don't know it's the same number or care.

Evening all, just thought I would check in and let you know I am still around.  Been busy with this and that.  Maybe after the holidays things will settle down to normal.  I've been keeping an eye on things now and then.

Mitch, Haven't seen many terazzo floors installed in this area lately.  They are great and do last.  Cost is high and the installation is very messy, making it difficult for other contractors to continue working while they are installed.  Back in the 60s & 70s just about every school we worked on had terazzo corridor floors, sometimes other areas.

"Happy Little Trees" - Gotta love Ross!

I think the interface cards come with software or drivers that provide the data, don't they?  Ever play Animal Crossing?  I was playing that with my kids for a while on the nintendo DS - wi fi.  We could visit each other's world etc.  Anyway, the game is in real time and sometimes it rains all day - it's tied to the current day/month/year and has all the seasons.  To make big $$$, you could reset the date in the system to say 10 years ago, plant stuff, then set it up a week and harvest the fruit and repeat as necessary.  Bad thing, if you skipped to far, weeds grew everywhere, people moved away and you got bugs in your house from neglecting it!  One of the items you could buy was a trainset on a little table you could run in your house - it would just go around in a circle - kinda neat!  I played that with the kids for months!

Sorry Sir James - got distracted.  Had to snake a toilet and bathe Chewy - she's getting clipped right now, so pretty!  G'night and TTFN!
