Mornin' boys.  Looking a little ominous and 36 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Hope I can make it to the train show at 10.

Reggie - Nice to have you back, sir.  Perhaps a glass covered coffee table with an N-scale layout for the living room.  Then get back to building that O gauge empire in the TRAIN room.  Cincy is a big railroad town, so you shouldn't have to look hard for inspiration.

Chief - I'm well aware that you Southern folks like tubs (some in the front yards), but you decorate the insides of them too.  Well-whadda-ya-know...

Today's forcast for Roseyville, cold, rain, wind and sleet.  A great day for a parade. Laugh [(-D]

Speaking of great days, the BUCKEYES are now playing in the National Championship Game.  The economy of Buckeyeland will be great for another year.

Micky, just one small step at a time and we can get you off of the ledge safely. Now hand me the razor blades.

Roy, what whip did you use to get a 14 year old to work?

Today's weather makes me love our cat.  I can see people going past the house walking their dogs in the cold rain.

Morning all.  Four cups of coffeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!  Been up since 6:45.  Wife trying to hide or clean everything.  Late last night she suddenly realized she had invited 25 people for lunch and to watch the parade.  Panic mode. Laugh [(-D]  As she had spent all day decorating outside, tubs of inside decorations are every where.  Funny seeing her try to et them back upstairs and not under the layout as she has to bring them back down to finish downstairs. Laugh [(-D]  Cough cough.  Will wrap up good for the parade as riding in convertible.  Cloudy and cold.  Maybe some spitz.  Want to get that train board to the kid but will not haul it if it is raining.  Wrapped up outside on sawbenches.  Later

Today, I am taking it easy. Going to run trains later. Do a little scenery work on the layout. Wife is making a nice dinner. Life is good.

Looking forward to SPF. I need some new pictures to post.

Dining Car is here and it's time for breakfast. Then, off to " points west ".

Morning!

Reggie:  Great news about staying in the states!

Spent the day working on the Christmas layout, while Bride and 3-yo were making cookies.  9-mo decided the Dept56 boxes were delicious.  3-yo decorated ALL the cookies.  She used paint brushes to paint the cookies with icing, and added the sprinkles with a spoon.  She had a great time..sorry forgot to take pictures.  Mom and daughter needed a nap after that.

Added 1" inclines for the trestle, and added Buffalo Snow on top, looks like the SF fog just rolled in.  Needed to cut snow out from under superstreets, too bumpy.

Off to eat the best cookies in the world!  ...and more wiring, then church.

Don,

If the show in Anahiem is the same as the one in Del Mar save your $7 a head and buy a couple of beers. I was afraid it would be a waste of time, it was.  Angry [:(!]  Very little "O" and the better stuff was, IMHO, overpriced. Even the "G" stuff seemed overpriced. That was my last visit. There were some nice operating layouts though.

Got a quick question, been looking for a steamer to share duties with my MTH Rock Island passenger consist. The only one I have ever seen is the one that Lionel did in the late 80's, anyone know of anything else ? Did the RI make use of any other roads steamers to pull their passenger cars ? Since I got outbid, Stout Auctions, on a Lionmaster Challenger that frees-up some cash for a different "capital investment". Big Smile [:D]

Good evening !

Doug (dagrump) - Yeah, we got a little rain as well, 1.25 inches!!  Wow, I was begining to wonder if I needed to start looking for an Ark.  Hope some more comes soon.  Thought about coming down to Del Mar to the train show, but forgot about it till later this afternoon.  I think the show is coming to Anahiem in Jan..

I have an AIU unit on my Christmas list, so the family came to me today and said they've called all the LHS's in So. Cal. and noone has any.  They were able to find one in Canada, however. (Ontario).  So I gave them a couple of shops to call, and sure enough found one in Strausburg, PA..  Seems like just about everything I have in the train room is from PA..

Made some progress on the wiring today.  But not enough. Been working on wiring concept.  And trying to figure out the optimum place for terminal strips.  Then decided would first get the Power Console situated.  I am using a universal printer cart, which has 3 pull out shelves, which sould work rather well.  Top drawer will be the actual Control Panel, with switches for the track switches, accessories, building lights, etc..  Second shelf will have the 2 transformers that will control the two elevated G-Scale trains.  Bottom shelf has 2 Bricks, 2 ZW transformers.

So far got the AC Distribution done.  Certainly have it well protected.  Coming from the house on a 20a ckt, have the main power switch, which has a pilot light.  Which is wired in series with a "Panic" shut off switch located in the opposite side of the room.  Then, the power goes to a 15a Surge Protector.  All the transformers are pluged into the surge protector. Then 10a ckt brkrs between the xfmr and TIU.  And finally 10a fuses on the TIU output wires.

Now, the track and switches.  Having some challenges, trying to determine when and where need a "Power District".

Think I will just put up a thread on some wiring question, so as not to take space here and bore everyone.

Evening all!

Got most of the outside decorations up and the "he who is 14" helped - wow.

One of our local tourist RRs was looking for some 80-86 baggage cars. These are getting harder to find and prices are going up because folks are making bridges out of them like the one Collin showed with the box car. This is obviously distressing to the RR historical societies. One entity was happy to try and work a deal with the local tourist RR just to prevent the car from being turned into a bridge somewhere. the cost of an old railcar (plus transport) compared to building a bridge on ones property is quite attractive.

Have a great evening all!

Regards, Roy

At least this Christmas movie has a model train in it, if only for a few seconds.  The trolley going back and forth was a little lame.

Quite tired myself.  Added to the outside decorations today.  Takes longer than it used to.  Watching the second Christmas movie of the evening while cruising the forums.  Ending is probably not much of a surprise for this one either.

Thought the tasser story was hillarious even if it was made up.  Had to wipe eyes a couple times to finish reading it.

Long day.  Went to Miss Edna's.  Ran MP E6's  They are great as MTH.  Sounds for engines are OK.  Horns are blaaa.  The passenger station sounds are outstanding.  Pulls in, announces train, hear them offering to help with their bags, conductor calling train and then clearing it for track to leave St. Lewis for Cincinnati.   They are new.  Front A unit had been test run but only minor signs on wheels and traction tires.  B and other powered A had no signs of being run.  Guys are trying to tell me to keep them.  Big long train when all three are coupled together.   Got leaves out of back gutters and all the outside Christmas decoration and their lights up.  Lighted buck and doe in one corner of front yard with spiral Christmas tree.  Angel in the other corner of front yard  Lighted Frosty on front porch roof, lighted trees at one corner of the house and next to them are lighted Christmas presents stacked and being guarded by a lighted blow up penguin.  Santa train lighted on back roof.  ENOUGH.

Took all of yours advice and its back to 4X6 and 031 Reatrax fits it just right.  Curves, 10" straight, curves, 30" straight and 5" straight and then curves and all over again like that on the rest of the layout.  Got him a lighted lockon so they can see the power.  Going to give him an engine that smokes and tender with whistle.  Got some cars for him and a caboose.  Hope to deliver it tomorrow after Christmas parade [got my wave down pat Approve [^]]

Dinner time.

Sleeting here too - great indoors day - of course, the daughter - who's never driven in sleet/snow - is ready to go out - I'll drive her - let's see how that agrees with her. Still futzing with track for a yard - I've heard of that golf course bridge before but forgot where it was. Mickey - I've been to Salt Creek RR  - a wonderful HO layout -and you're right - a nice piece of infrastructure.  Reggie, I think that's good news all around - Cincy is a nice town ---

Colin, I have seen bridges made from flat cars, but this is a first for me to see one made from a box car.  Thanks.

Reggie - Welcome back!! Sign - Welcome [#welcome] If you are going to be settling into Cinci, you will need to check out the layout at the old station.   Hopefully in the near future, we can hook up at a train show.

Hey everyone,

A quick post here. My dad found this in Chicago on a golf course. It's an old Milwaukee boxcar. It spans one of the creeks. I'll update the info later.

HOWDY,

It was 12 deg. at 7:30 this morn. high 20s now. Forcast is snow, freezing rain, then rain by sometime tomorrow with thunder showers. were getting it all. At least they are seldom right. I got dragged off to the indoor flea market(kicking & screaming I might add) by wife and youngest son this morning. I thought we had finished our running around yesterday.Never did see any fleas for sale. Got a few chuckles from the old folks thread, thats what makes this forum more home like. Going to the train room soon so I will drop by later.  A safe weekend to all,    Sir James
