Afternoon all
Just got in from church, had a meeting after Mass. Checking the pot before changing clothes. Beautiful outside. Going to work on the garage footer till time for Youth group this evening. Bride at a baby shower so I've got the house to myself.
John F love the pics of your trip. About 10 years ago we took an Amtrack trip out west and loved it. Neat idea to hook up with folks you meet on the pot.
Standing invetation!!!! If you are in Southern Ohio, around Portsmouth, and want to you are invetated to swing by, we'll run American Flyers, and bride is a great cook and usually cold refreshment in the fridge. The door is open!
John-The switch arounds are rough. I know what you are talking about. Most of the time I can turn my sleep around in a day, but sometimes not. Waking at 2 or 3 a.m. is no fun when you're trying to get to a normal sleep pattern. Funny how everybody seems real grouchy when you are getting your sleep turned around.
Check in later
May God bless

A bit of afternoon reading here, seems I have missed a good deal of information over the last week. John, thanks for posting about your trip. I too would like to make a nice rail trip, but am leaning toward the trans Canada deal.
Rick, I took the Autotrain once going from Florida to it's end...I think it was in Maryland. They emptied my belongings out of the car on the way up. Was not very comfortable, but I don't think it was meant to be.
Lisa....I hear you are on the mend, but what happened, I missed it. Hope you are doing well. I will pray for you and your husband.
Chief, hope they have not been giving you too much grief here. Let me know if you need any backup.
Watching "Band of Brothers", have to take advantage while the wife has the kids out. Can't watch this while the little ones are around.
Hope everyone is blessed this week.

John, great Amtrak trip photos and story. What great trip you had! I have ridden Amtrak on parts of the route you took. What did you think of the scenery through Ohio? I am happy you got to meet Doug, Don and Doug on your trip.
If anybody rides Amtrak through Columbus, make sure you let me know and we will have the brass band playing for you at the station, buy you lunch, and take you on a guided tour of every train store we know.
Lisa, you all better git better. (That's Southern talk that I have learned from my various trips.)
Guys, something is wrong with the Chief. Two times now he has left himself wide open for us to crack on him, which of course we heartily obliged.
Company tonight for supper. Have the trains ready to run outside.
Can't wait to see the OTTS guys next Saturday in Berea.

Dennis, We chatted with a couple from Savanah, in the Metropolitan Lounge at Union Station, that were on their way home from the Trans Canada Trip. They couldn't stop raving about it.
The problem with the autotrain is that it doesn't come far enough North. If it came to Philly or NY it would get a lot more business. I understand the problem is clearance for the high cars North of Lorton, VA.

Buckeye,
Actually we didn't see much of Ohio as we left Union station at 7:05 & it got dark soon after that. How is that for a cop out?

Wouldn't bother me in the least.
Please don't. I do not want to hear the crying.
Dennis, I have the whole series of Band Of Brothers. DVD's came in a tin box. Great series. Wife back home with pictures and video of Grandson. Fixed PVC fish structure and put in pond today. PVC type will not catch hooks. Put it where small kids can fish from bank over it. Now watching Gene Autry and Down Mexico Way. Later

Fifedog........NASCAR has announced that Tony will NOT be penalized for the words he said on pit road. Didn't know camera was on. Race is back on.

I honestly don't have the slightest idea what you two are talking about. Did I miss something?
Chief, don't you think you were a little hard on the beaver?
Hey DWeimer! I was watching Band of Brothers today too, while I was painting the bedroom. Then Julia came in and that was that. Next thing I knew, brightly colored puppets were singing.

Evenin' All !
Just now beginning to wake-up. Had our normal friday run then it was back to the museum on saturday for the Kid's Club. Sure glad ours is grown, that wears ya out trying to keep up with them.
Earthquake in Ohio ! A 2.1 ain't an earthquake, that don't even qualify as a foot massage. When they issue a tsunami warning for Lake Erie then we'll talk.
Thanks for the complements Chief, now if you were to stand in my yard and say that I would end up with a very green and lush lawn. You can't buy any fertilizer on the market as good as that.
It was with great pleasure that I was able to entertain Don & John as well as their other(better?) halves at the museum. Speaking of which did either of you guys happen to get a picture of James with the Amtrak coaches? Based on Amtrak's "on time arrivals" this could be considered prototypical operations.
After today's San Diego sports performances it is time to change the team names:
#1. Madres, because the Padres are playing like a bunch of old women,
#2. DisChargers, they are absolutely stinko or is it the coaching staff
Now I've forgotten what else I was going to say, gonna have to keep a steno pad by the computer for notes.

Roy, I'm about 4.5 to 5 hours away a little south of St. Louis! We do have an occasional poster here who lives in KC, I think.
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Thanks Jim. That's too bad. It has been fun to try and connect with fellow forumites during travels.
Hey - Cowboys are 4-0 - maybe it is an illusion?
Different NASCAR race today for sure/ The Chief's beavers could have built a *** (e.g. water retention structure using primarily small trees, sticks, and mud) and had a lake.
Regards, Roy
Hey, Beav, Best of luck with the skin surgery! It's not your "shootin'" hand is it?
Let me know how it went.
I'm thinking about buying one of those 831 residences, so I won't have to deal with another New England winter!
I Like that

I think the site has been down for a few hours. I was up earlier saw Jumijo do a couple of posts, then Zap it wouldn't refresh, I think it JUST came back on.
Don
Mornin' boys. Mornin' Chief. Good luck with your procedure.
Browns 77 - ravens 6...well, that's what if felt like... How ' bout them COWBOYS?!! Break up the LIONS while we're at... and what's with the PACKERS? Weird season so far.
Blueberry - I did not know they restarted the race...was all set to congratulate you on another victory. Lots of bruised feelings on that #20 team. Maybe your boy won't be in a Toyota next year...
Jimmy A - Everything copastetic? You've been Jum"edgey" recently...
Morning all,
Start night shift tonight so off this morning.
Don-I think you are right, I tried to acess earlier and could not and tried again just a little later and got on. Maybe server maintenance.
Chief- Hope all comes out well with the removal of the C spot. If folks ask about the bandage tell them a beaver bit you.
It is beautiful in Southern Ohio. Clear cool sunny. Got most of the footer digging finished for the garage addition yesterday. Ran into another foundation. I remember as a kid there were two garages back to back with a space in between. I just happen to select the location for the addition right on top of where the old garages were. I don't think the foundation is going anywhere once poured.
Daughter bring her van up for some exhaust work. Hopefully that won't take too long so I can get back to digging.
All take care, Lisa, be careful with your back. Dr. John hoe you mom is doing good. Two other guys had wives recovering, hope they're doing good. The time frame is about where they are feeling good enough to start doing things but try and do too much to catch up with things that did not get done while they were laid up. Don't ask how I know this.
fifedog wrote:Jimmy A - Everything copastetic? You've been Jum"edgey" recently...
As a matter of fact, it isnt. And yes, I have been.
Good morning all,
It is raining in SE Indiana again with temps in the 70s. Older daughter was down with her family yesterday to borrow the truck while theirs is getting fixed. After they left, I watched a tape of the US women beating Norway for the bronze medal . I will watch Brazil and Germany later. I also watched "Desperate Housewives" as well. The dining car had bacon and biscuits yesterday and cereal and cinnamon rolls this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a sunny 60 degrees. Going up to 82, today, with lots of sunshine.
This is the first time I was able to access the Forum since 7:30am this morning. Must be a slow day. All other sites were ok.
Today I am busy. No time for trains. Chores to do and a few errands to run. Need to start putting the yard in order for the cold weather. It is October 1st, already. This year has flown by. Hate to think about winter.
Dining Car was here and I had breakfast. Then it headed out to " points west".
Y'all have a great Monday.
Chuck

Jim - Just don't loose your sense of humor, we need all the levity we can muster around here. Maybe there's some kinda spell in the air, probably due to the Legacy and BB being so late, causing a bad karma.
With threads being generated about flames, lock downs, and instigating issues no wonder there is ill will.
THIS TOO WILL PASS, AND "THINGS" WILL GET BACK TO NORMAL WITH THE HOLIDAYS.
Had a busy weekend, where did the time go????
Saturday spent most of the day securing track, and checking clearance tolerances. (Probably more time playing than working.) Had 5 engines on various sections and would run them in different combinations to make sure no problems. Have found out that the NW J (611), is the most critical on track surface. Just behind the pilot wheels is this little "thingy" looks like a brake shoe. Is RIGHT next to the trailing edge and any problem it finds. Then because of the 8 drivers, the weight as it is distributed does not permit for any variation in elevation or the front will short out. We're talking mm's here! Then the swing on the Cab Forward when backing up is significant. (Monkey Deck) At least a 2.75" swing on a 72 curve outside. Given that I am trying to put 10# in a 5# bag, every cm is critical.
Anyway, get it ALL working then secure it! So ended up with 1/2 of both mainlines secured and 1 long siding. Then Sunday had to work, on my way home I was thinking about the auto carriers cars and their extended length. Sure enough the swing of the Cab Forward picks up the auto carrier when on the siding at the apex of both curves. So more adjusting. Wondering how much clearence will be necessary for the Cab Forward and Big Boy when it arrives!
Then, yesterday servicing the pool equipment, and broke one of the DE grids. Can't get a replacement until today. So pool not running. Today is bill paying day, ugh!
Hope everyone has a great day, and everyones health issues subside!!!
Including "The BEAV's" hand.

Doug, possible for the museum ????
The war was a good series. The one thing I'm always left asking whenever I watch a documentary on WWII is - how did these people find the courage to do the things they did? I can't even begin to imagine hitting a beach with all that fire power coming at me, or battling in close quarters, or seeing people die horrifically right next to me. I thank God that I never had to fight in a war.
As for Ken Burns, all his films are basically the same. Period music, static photos, a few action shots, and first person narratives in the form of letters or survivors talking about the experiences. Only the subject matter changes. I wonder what he could do with a feature film.

dbaker48 - that TANK-O-LANTERN is marvelous.
Speaking of Halloween, I know a lot of you guys like the spooky stuff for your layouts. LEMAX has been putting out a different pirate ship every year, and I was trying to figure out how to encorporate a couple on a layout. Then while on vacation in Ocean City, and playing lots of putt-putt golf... DING-DING-DING!!! A carnival or fun-park with a pirate ship putt-putt course.
