Morning all,
Yes Buckeye! I see them too. Thought I'd come to the end of the page after the first post.
Chief.... That's the Chevy SSR you're refering to. We had one in the shop last year. The box dressup package in this truck was quite the joke and cost way over $400. This option included 8 slats of 2" X 1/4" varathaned oak for lining the bed floor. I think the same thing could have been replicated with house trim from Home Depot for $20-$30.
Bruce Webster
Good Morning,
Chief I had looked at that SSR, and when I saw the price tag, Well that was that. $50k, a bit too much. Especially when I bought the El Camino it was only $13k. I have put 276k miles on it, then it started the "Chevy blue puff" from the valve guides leaking oil. Decided rather than just do a top end on the engine, to put a new crate engine in it. Did that last year, and replaced the transmission. So in a month or so, it will be like a new car and a lot less expensive. Chris will probably end up with it, so he wanted stripes added to the front end. So they are going to be putting 18" Camaro type strips on it. Pearlized white with blue tint. Should really look good.
Keith, remember that ebay auction you sent me, can you believe that set sold for $130? Seems like a low price to me, but I'm not real sure.
Trying to figure out what method of moujnting a ceiling rails in our train room with the aluminum sides. Had considered using the plastic coating wire shelving, but not sure going to be happy with that long term. Thinking more of putting up a ledger board than using wood shelf brackets, then a layer of plexiglass, and track on top. Going to have 2 parallel ovals around the perimeter of the room. Then using some dowels with possibly fishing line as a retaining wire. Anyway a place to start.
Today, got to get car parts to the painter, then work. How do you know when you can retire?
Keith, just saw your post. The only problem is that the engine is in the wrong place on the Corvair, I would get tired of all that backing up. And not a lot of room for trips to the train shop.
Don
1688torpedo wrote: Hello All! Don B- Whew- That sounded like an Abbott & Costello Skit gone wild as far as the El Camino goes. Jim A may be right-You probably should have bought a Corvair! Maybe Bruce Webster can sell you a Corvair that has been restored & at a reasonable price.
Think Rampside Pickup! Tons more room than a El Camino and it'll easily get you out of any SoCal snowdrifts. Just give yourself an extra hour to get where you're going....15 minutes extra travel time and 45 minutes to change a fanbelt. And Kieth wonders why I don't drive down to Ohio in a Corvair

Dennis, The link I sent you is for E-8s, similar to the Fs except 6 wheel truck and other cosmetic changes. Also a little longer I think. They should work well with the Madison cars.
The only thing I know of in stream that is available new is the Williams J class. Don't know if it is prototypical, or if you care, but it is a beautiful engine. No DCS or TMCC but has smoke, whistle & bell.

I think there is some kind of law against painting GG-1s in those colors. A little like painting the Broadway Limited in royal blue.

Hi Don,
Yep! Going on 13 years of ownership now. This is actually the second time I've owned the car. Originally I bought it off my buddy then sold it back to him. When he decided to sell again I had first shot. By that time he had installed a modified turbocharged engine, lowered it, new 4spd tranny with 308 diff and A/C so I couldn't resist. I've tricked it out a bit to my liking with a Blaupunkt system, leather BMW 7 series seats, 14" old school mags and bolted on a gaggle of factory accessories so it's really a comfy road machine. Speedo was zeroed when I first bought it and it just turned over 30K miles last year. I have yet to have any major problems with it other than I did change a fanbelt 2 years ago. The car is really in it's eliment when doing 60-80mph and you punch it.
BTW, I have 2 others...both totally stock. One of them came from the original owner in Whittier, Ca.

Not a heck of a lot going on here. I'm on lunch and it's way too cold to go for a walk.
I set up a loop of FasTrack on the carpet in our train room the other night. I ran one of my post war locos on it and thought it sounded ok. Then I put the loco on the layout and man, what a difference! Easily twice as loud on the table. So this has convinced me that the Chief had the right idea all along. Run the trains on the carpet. It's already been decided, the Jumijo layout will be dismantled this weekend.
Lionroar88 - Williams is NOT going to sell you a GG1 with an undecorated shell. Not gonna happen.

Thanks Kieth,
I have connections in California ( my folks winter in Santa Ana, not far from Don) and since we're in the old car business it's a totally doable thing. Problem is, what kind of a friend would I be if I sold you a Corvair?

Well its official. I am now employeed at a train store. I stopped by Memory Station this morning and Lewis and I came to an agreement, I start next Wed. morning when he's back in town.
Chilly and windy here this morning but the sun is bright. Bad weather is scheduled to move in tonight. Spent a couple hours taking down another section or fence this morning. Now I'm off to my workbench to continue with the mods. to the second Mikado for the client. This one need a Worthington water heater made, doing it in brass, a repaint, and SAL decals.
I've taken photos before and after, engine 1, and will take engine 2 and try to post when completed.

ROGER,
How bout a discount for DA GIZ here on the forum?

Congratulations Roger, I have yet to make the trip up that way, but will soon and I will see if you are going to be there.
Chief, ya hurt me big guy I don't have trains running on the layout upstairs, but do on the main floor. I know it is not the same thing, and you have much more time of being a floor runner than I, so you have beaten me. On the other hand, I have been hearing about your plan to build a layout for several years now, so I am glad it has not taken me that long to get to this point. I look forward to seeing more progress on your and my layouts.

Doug,
I restored a 1972 Olds 442 convertible and then sold it to a collector right before I got married. The last I saw of it, it was at the Volo museum. They were selling it for a lot more than I sold it for!

My buddy and I disassembled the 455 motor in that 442 one day. He threw every single bolt in a 5 gallon plastic pale. I could have choked him. It took me a solid week to figure out where each one went! I miss those days!!

Yes. But for a few weeks now, I've been seeing a space between the first and second posts. Then the rest are all stacked on top of each other.
Today is the first day I am seeing it with the space and ads.

Do they bother you guys? They don't really bother me. I almost don't even see them. Aside from the ad at the very top of the page, they are the only ads I see. The old software used to have ads all down the right side of the page.

Naw, it doesn't bother me, but I was wondering if it was sort of a test such that ads could be put between every posting because we don't have the ads down the right side of the page anymore.
Geeez, so much to catch up on!!
Sorry I'm late....Had too many projects to complete before lift off on Friday.
All this talk about Chevys....making me itch....I have a '70 RoadRunner Convertible in NJ, and since this a TRAIN forum, I'll leave it at that!
Cold (relatively speaking) and raining today about 55ish a very raw day to be sure.
I saw those ads also, first time I thought that was just a single post and didn't look for more!! Just saw it after the first post, not the sides of the forum screen. I saw a N&W steamer & tender in my LHS (lionel) brand new in the box for $125 (down from 300 something). Tomorrow, I'll try to get there to get a part number on it. I'm pretty sure that it just has a whistle, not rail/trainsounds or TMCC. I'll see what I can come up with.
Work calls again...be well all

Good Evening Everyone !! Awful soggy around here yet & so is my basement. Though it's slowed up a bit down here .
Congratulations to Roger !! I think I've seen their adds before & I think Roger is really going to enjoy working there !!
They just said on the news that today is the day most people toss out their New Years resolutions !! I forgot to make any !!
I wonder if we would be able to buy the new MTH wireless tethers they came out with. Pretty neat I think !!
Well hope everyone has a nice evening !!
Thanks, John
I see the ads - I think I noticed them last night.
Roger - congratulations! Sounds like a kid in a candy shop! Be careful or you'll spend more than you make there and end up working for the company store!
Nothing much here - people keep ROBBING me on ebay - but if they want to pay more than me, not much I can do about it. Was looking at this magazine I picked up and saw a couple places had the MTH 787 reproduction on a great sale - of course, they're all sold out already!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Question of the day..........
Where is Buckeye ????
Evening all
Busy day. Final coats of poly on the bookcase. Making some trees for the layout, and cleaned up my car after loaning it to my daughter. Now a little study after surfing. Spose to get cold again.
All have a good night
