OK... so took some suggestions from the fellas and modified the layout plan to include the 'aguarium nook'...

Extended the valley back into the nook, extended the track and river back as well.  Added an MTH Brewery between the track and river (thought this was fitting), also added a milk car platform to the town siding.

Chief, I played around with the switches in the yard and couldn't go with anything tighter as it would have made the space for RR related yard accessories too small.

Fife - yeah I would have liked to go with an island layout to show off the wainscotting, but I really wanted a larger layout! Wink [;)]  I'm not going to scenic the wall behind the yard, that is going to have some train related pics and wall hangings on it.  Under the layout there will be display shelves for stuff not in use.  The turntable falls right in the middle of a layout section, so it will be a 2 foot square removable section so I can get to the yard, also there will be removable panels below the barn (large grey structure by the river), two in town, and one in the coal mine hill (upper left).

Morning all.  Slept late [us retirees Wink [;)]].  Think I will call Jim A's cell and see if all those folks have driven him "more" nuts. Laugh [(-D]  He's probably looking a public library as he can not stand to miss what we might say about him. Evil [}:)]

Hey, weatherpersons are saying big chance of showers all week and maybe into the weekend. Smile [:)]  Think I will go spray garden, grape vines and fruit tree.  That should make it rain. Laugh [(-D]

Have a good one and God bless. [remember, my platform is more GRITS and SWEET ICE TEA in every home no matter what the price of gas goes too]

Good Morning from Iowa,

Where has the summer gone?  It's hard to believe that today is July 16, it just seems like a few day's ago that it was Memorial Day.

I've been busy riding with the Patriot Guard with welcome home events, deployment events and of course, funerals.  It's an honor every time I participate.  Also have found some time to sneak down to the basement and dust off the layout and run trains.  I sometimes forget how much enjoyment I get from running the trains, especially in the summer.

We just returned from a wonderful 10 day vacation at the lake. Our beautiful 14 month grand daughter and her parents were with us, along with our bachelor son.  One of the highlights for me was every morning I would grab a big mug of coffee and the little one and I would go for a walk early while everyone else showered and got breakfast ready, what a great time.  I miss her dearly this morning.

I also enjoyed talking trains yesterday at a big family reunion picnic.  I have two brother in-laws who are always interested in the layout and what's happening with it.  One is considering York this fall, when I mentioned 7 buildings of trains his eyes just danced with excitement.  We had not put York in our fall plans but it sure is tempting, we enjoyed our trip last year immensely.

August will find the bachelor son and me heading out on the bikes and doing the circle ride around Lake Superior, leaving from his home in St. Paul.  Buckeye has been a big help with excellent suggestions, THANK YOU.  We will do the ride (about 1300+ miles) in 5-6 days so the pace should be very enjoyable.

Take care & stay safe.

88 - WATCH THE BACK!  I'm peeling.

laz57 - You may be right.  I got baked pretty good Monday.  Hope there's no long-term damage...Dunce [D)]

Chief - It's hard to get real Southern-style sweet tea in these parts.  Most restaurants serve it unsweetened.  They do serve raspberry tea, and I've been enjoying that.

Well, gotta pack for my post family vacation VACATION.  3 days in WEST BY GOD VIRGINIA fishing and railfanning CSX!!!

Going to grade spot in yard for a shed.  I think its going to be 10X 24.

FIFE, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?  You DOG.  GRITS?  Musta got too much sun?

  All have a good one.

Mike C. - Yes I hear you. Our 13 year old son has discovered girls and we are now having a repeat of the crud our daughter put us through when she was 13 except we have the reverse angle view. Arhg! Angry [:(!]

Ah! The smell of GRITS in the morning! It does a heart well!

Have a great day all!

Oh HAPPY Day;   Looked out the back window this morning and I see a tomato turning red.I can smell the bacon already.

Jim F.  I used my boys when I did elecrtic work too. had them grab the wires so I knew which ones were still hot. Probably why grandsons have that funny expression on their faces all the time.

I haven't planned my day yet but trains could be part of it.  Still waiting for rain we are told it's coming but never gets here. At least not in the past four weeks. Regards to all.

Glad to see you are back!  Was worried that the lure of the beach would be too great and you would find rotissering your body too much to your liking to come back!

Yeah the train room is really nice, can't wait to get started!

Had a bit of a set back.  On Friday I got a call from the mechanic that I should stop by and pick up the bimmer... he said she needs a new drive shaft... said his guy can't fab one because it is a bimmer and he doesn't do bimmers... so he has to call a dealer and get a quote... will call Monday with the horrific news... Sad [:(]

Did get good news... BiL's friend is stopping out tomorrow or Wednesday to survey the land and give me a quote on constructing a garage!  He is having trouble finding work and is in the area drumming up business.  That should save me mega $$$ since I can do most of the work myself (just need some help raising the rafters and working on the roof (not afraid of heights, but I don't like them much either)), but scaffolding REALLY helps with the height concerns.

Cheif - spoke with Susan... Tongue [:P]  She said to tell you, 'I told you to tell him they need more women like ME!'  Ummm... if we move South, I'll warn you so you can back your bags and head for the hills! Laugh [(-D]

Lisa - Glad to hear your husband is doing better... he looked like he was enjoying himself at the garden railroad display.

Dennis - Hope you are doing better

Dewey - Glad you are still with us!  Hope you get better soon!

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s and a chance for rain tonight.  Lucas came home from an evening with his new girl friend.  He said it went ok except for when they went to church group where his old girlfriend was, who proceeded to hassle both of them.  I am so glad I no longer have to go that kind of environment.  Doug and Roy and any others with teenagers, this is part of the "fun".  Onto more pleasant thoughts in that there is soccer practice tonight and I did not have to drive today.  I see where the dining car arrived from "Points East" already.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

John, thanks, got the email.  I will let you know if I find local, otherwise, giving them a call.

John Bakeer, thanks, I need to download the photos, but will do.  He says "thanks" also for your photos and help.

Chief as Commander in CHIEF, now that does have a ring to it.  One thing for sure, his first year in, the Thanksgiving Turkey does NOT get pardoned.  It will be quite the spectical with all those news folk out in the Rose Garden and out comes the Chief, hatchet in handShock [:O]  I would switch parties to get him in!

Dewey, great to hear from you.  Sorry for the issues you and the bride are contending with.  Will keep you both in our prayers.

Lisa, hope everything is progressing well with Hubby's recovery.  Also, hope your job hunt goes well and you end up where you need to be.

Well, got a case I have to get into, then to the office and start some tests.  Hope Y'all have a great day.

God Bless,

Dennis,

Glad your friends pub is done, looking forward to the pic's. Jim e-mailed some corkers!

Chuck,

My layout (still not powered up) is the 'Ashlar & Spen Valley RR' named after the area where I lived most of my life in Yorkshire. I did have an extensive N gauge system of the same name, but a move of home to smaller premises, old age and general decrepitude meant I had to quit.

0900BST in a sunny (for a change) warm Stockport, if it gets really warm the roads will begin to melt and we will see GRIT(ter)S around.

My XP programme is up the creek. The spell check has defaulted to French (cough spit!), the fonts keep changing size for no apparent reason and the damn thing refuses to install Microsoft updates. All I get from their web site is complete gobbledygook.

You guys moaning about gas prices should count yourselves lucky. How does (£4.40) $8.95 a gallon grab you? And the tax on it is going to be hiked again in October. We should be rioting in the streets.

Hi Guys - well, let there be LIGHT!  Yes, all the lights and outlets worked.  I did have to make an emergency run to Home Depot for a new breaker.  One of my breakers was broken on the side and that's not good Angry [:(!]  My son helped right up until the end, mostly holding the flashlight on this job.

Went to La Pachanga (local Mex food) and had grilled chicken with rice and beans.  I should be keeping the dog amused all night!  Whistling [:-^]Evil [}:)]

Dave F, you were right.  Microsoft emailed me and I downloaded an unistall utility and the reinstalled + a service pack + the last update and now it finally worked.  What a mess.  I should send them a bill for $80 for my time they wasted.

Wiring took about 5 hours so didn't get anything else done for the entire day except eating out and fixing computer.  I'll take some pics of my new train cars and track and post in the next couple of day.  In the mean time, TTFN!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  My wife, Lucas, and I went to an African-American church service in inner-city Indianapolis today.  A friend where I used to work invited us.  It was a little different than the Catholic services we usually attend.  Listened to the end of the IRL race that Scott Dixon won.  Manning was ninth for AJ and Danica was third and Sarah was 15th.  Watched USA beat Norway 1-0 last night.  A belated get well to Doug (cnw1995) and I hope the eye gets better.  We had the usual fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
