Finally had a couple of thunder storms roll through the last two nights, we needed the rain bad.  Its the first rains to reach us in, probably, more than a month.  Since I covered the store Thurs. and Fri. I'm off today.  But that doesn't mean no work, we're doing some painting and the stairway to the 2nd floor is today's task.  It took a while to figure out how I was going to reach to the ceiling.  Ended up buying a 16' ext. ladder, adding leg levelers, and making up a stand to bring up one step, leg levelers were 12" needed 16" since the ladder is 24" wide.  Hopefully this gets done this morning and I can run some trains this afternoon.

Recently the only trains I get time to run is the display at work.  (Who said you have more time for yourself after retirement?)  When its slow I change engines and the consists around.  Suprisingly the kids, 5 yrs. +/-, that routinely come in for their weekly train fix with mom or dad do notice the changes.

Looks like more rain, yea!, unless the clouds break up

Cloudy but no real rain.  Hope for some tonight.

Hi GIZ,

Another beauty of a day here, going to mulch and work on tan.

Then go for trout after 4, then another fire with burgers and dogs, and beer of  course.

Rock on,

Batemans is a brewery near Cambridge.

Two of our elderlies have gone missing, last heard of at the Kentucky Derby (and Joan club).  Give 'em a wave from we in TOGdom, tell them not hurry back.

Hope every one has a good weekend, we are on a bank holiday, which means that the fine weather we have enjoyed for the last few days will probably turn to rain.

Afternoon all!

Another busy week passed. Lots o' meetings - UGH!

Cloudy here. We have had lots of rain and I think most of the lakes have refilled finally. It has rained so much the holes around my house they dug for the foundation piers are full of water and the ground is so saturated it is not being absorbed. The foundation company comes on Monday to jack up the house and set the blocks to hold it there.

Finally uppacked all my York purchases. I got a lot of stuff this year.

Picked up a mint/unopened modern Bascule Bridge for $250.

Got several O gauge prewar freight cars - Shell tank car, couple of box cars, hopper - all for about $20-25 each.

Picked up a nice Pre-war 1941 Freight set for $275 with a 224E loco and all operating cars.

Got a new MTH Dispatch board for $35.

Bag of 3 plasticville signal bridges for $5

Weaver war emergency gondola for $25

Couple of MTH prewar repros (box cars) for $60 each

Lot of other stuff for repairs and some Williams powered chassis to build some custom track cleaning cars for the Lionel layouts in NY for next holiday season.

Regards, Roy

Bakeer - we have a Cambridge on the Maryland Eastern Shore, but not sure there's a brewery there...probably a micro-brew or two.

I believe your "elderlies" are being shunted around in style behind NORFOLK SOUTHERN's newly rebuilt F9's (4270).

Does anyone have a MTH Rail King 4-6-0?  I ordered the 4-6-0 christmas set w/ PS2, and I was wondered how people like the 4-6-0.  I'll check in later, have to wax the car this afternoon.

Jim,  I have that engine in PRR.  It runs great, has nice sounds and whistle.  Smokes like crazy.  It is on the layout right now as it is most of the time as my 4 & 6 year old granddaughters love to run it.

Good afternoon! Hot and dry today - no rain, unfortunately. Sad [:(]

CityFest was fun today. Our church gave out several hundred bottles of water and pre-registered a bunch of kids for Vacation Bible School in June. Lots of arts & crafts displays, food, vintage cars, etc. Chief - Bass Pro Shops had a tent this year. Talked to a lady there who said they were on schedule to open later this summer. One vendor had a bunch of die-cast cars. Some nice ones, but most much larger than O scale.

Took the family to Jim & Nicks BBQ. Had ribs, beans and potato salad. Love their cheese biscuits!

Enjoyed seeing the queen on TV yesterday. She's the same age as my mother, so I kind of have  soft spot for her, even if I'm not one of her subjects. No offense, Nick & John B. but I don't care much for Prince Charles. Is there any chance Andrew could be king after Queen Elizabeth?

Wow, It was almost 48 hours since I last loged in and it took me forever to read all the posts.  Yesterday was shopping day so I followed Jean around most of the day.  Took a break and sat on a bench for a while reading (outside in the sun) and sunburned the bald head.  Now bright red and hurting!  Guess old age doesn't make one smarter, just older.

Today was spent outside pressure washing the vinyl picket fence and the siding.

Zeke,  Happy B-Day [bday] .  I too was Army, reported to Fort Knox 46 years ago today, the Kentucky Derby was run that day, don't know what date it was.

Mitch, Hope you make out OK with the interview.

John Baker, Are you not anxious for the Queen to come back home? Whistling [:-^]Big Smile [:D]Wink [;)]Smile [:)]

I might actually run some trains for a while after I finish this post.

Take care,

Good evening all,

It has been a busy day and weekend so far.  Went to Lucas' show last night, "Suessical", which was actually pretty good.  The retiring music director, who usually built a show around one of her "pets", for once picked a show that allowed several kids to shine, and most of them did a credible job.  We got home and watched taped versions of "Close to Home" and "Numb3rs".   Went to bed at 1 AM and got up at nine as I thought we were going to Spiderman 3 at noon and I had to get the yard mowed.  Turned out I was wrong about the movie, but I did get the yard mowed and the house swept before 3PM so we could go to a graduation reception and then to a mass for my mom at 4 PM.   My dad is not Catholic and never went to church with mom, but everytime there is a mass for her, he goes.  Got some food to go from Chilis tonight and then went back to the high school to see the art exhibit.  Then the wife wanted to go Goodwill and she got some shirts for Lucas.  Was going to watch the NASCAR race, but it was rained out.  Tomorrow the track opens for practice for the "Greatest Race in the World".  I had the usual fare for breakfast this morning, but I may have bacon on the dining car for "Points East" tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Evening.  Queen came to the South [VA and KY] for a good bowl of GRITS. Bow [bow]

Train meet was as usual.  Not much to it.  Finished my wiring project in the back trainroom.  Added a ground plain and then outlets under the back benchwork.  Fun working breaker pannel hot behind part of the benchwork.

Finally getting some rain.  Went by Miss Edna's today.  Everything from MTH is on backorder.  HUMMMM

Army, what I did in 68 and 69.

Sunny, warm to hot and humid in St. Louis.  Finally a day without rain.  My lawn is about 8 feet tall now after all the rain this week - have to mow tomorrow no doubt about it.  Worked in the basement all day.  Put up another light fixture in an overhang area and ran that wire to the switch, then wired the remaining 2 light switches in that room (3-ways).  Had to run out and get a wire lug that would hold 5 ground wires!  Couldn't run the last 6 feet to the load center, though, because I forgot to buy flexible conduit - have to pick up tomorrow.  Went out tonight with my friend and got some pizza, then went to Spiderman 3, which was great!  Then grabbed a small blizzard at Dairy Queen and home again.  Watched the Lake Placid 2 movie we taped off scifi channel while I was camping last weekend -- it was good for a tv movie, but the spfx were not as good as the original and not as much humor.  John Schneider was good in it though.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Her royal nibs would not eat 'Grits(oat cakes)' as they are 'peasants fare'. The Queen travels for free, the pleb's have to pay. I don't know if you guys know this, but the UK has no proper written constitution so the establishment led by (guess who)? Can manipulate the system to suit themselves. This has led to a strong republican movement that sees the royal family as a parasitic anachronism. On a personal note, Charlie would make a good King. But his mum is set not to abdicate and as her mom lived to over 100, we look like we're stuck with her for another 20 yrs. The rules of accession are that the Head of State passes down the male line from Monarch to elder son and so on, King George VI had no sons hence QE II. A lot of us like Charlie because he has a mind of his own and is not frightened of being controversial.

Phew that's a load off my chest!

On the price of gas; You should complain! I paid the equivalent of $8.50 for a gallon of unleaded yesterday. And it's forecast to be $10.00 by the year end (70% is tax).

Hope to run my Lionel puffer at the Ilkley meet thanks to the ganerosity of a fellow member of the UK Lionel thingy

Since you fellas have the voltage and power resolved, how is it never hear you talk about MTH trains?  Just curious.

And, I thought we had it bad about the petro, at $3.50 a gallon, but that is not an Imperial Gallon either, still a bit much.

Good night all, till tomorrow

I am still very much the new boy around here and MTH are not Lionel with which I am already having trouble getting my head around any way.

0930BST in a damp and windy Stockport. Going to stay home and take a trio of Dash9s with a 50 car intermodal over Marias.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 50 degrees. Going up to 70 today, with sunshine all day.

Today, I am going to be outside, most of the day. I want to take advantage of the nice weather. Have a few chores to do, and work around the yard. We are getting an area ready to plant a small garden, behind the house. Morning sun and afternoon shade. Ran trains for a few hours, yesterday. Just relaxed and enjoyed it.

Dining Car arrived with a load of bacon. Must be from " Points west ". Time for breakfast.

Saturday night NASCAR race cancelled for rain. Running at 1 pm today.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Lionel O gauge. If it looks as good as the pre-production samples they have a winner. No British outline 3-rail O gauge manufacture can touch Lionel on the price. $299 rrp I paid $224. That would only just about buy a coach or two let alone a full set!

Chuck,  Glad you posted the reschedule time!  I was planning on watching the race and didn't record it, but was out in the train room and before you know it, it was too late.  So that was the first thing on my mind this am, is wonder what time the race is rescheduled too.  Maybe Jr. will do better this week.

Also, saw on another thread that you had gotton email from some giz that they couldn't get on, maybe its just you and I to hold the fort down.

Plan on putting up G scale track today.  Got to get it clean, and see exactly how much I have.  Should have enough for one circuit on my elevated shelf.  Then got to start hunting any deals I can find.

Have a great day!

John,

Thanks for telling me about the 4-6-0.  The set got here on Friday, and I ran it just to check that everything woks correctly since it will be in the box for the next 7 months and 19 days.  It smokes a bit differently than other MTH steamers, but it smokes heavily on medium.  Had to turn the smoke off because it started to bother my eyes and nose.  Never had that happen before.

Mornin' boys.  Red flag warning here in the Mid-Atlantic today.  We need some of that rain Fortner has been talking about.  I see the Chief is showing off his missile....again...

jefelectric - perhaps a nice grits bath will help with the burn...

Bakeer - we like the Royals...wouldn't seem right without them, so sorry, they have to stay.

88 - I make my wife look at color samples before the money is spent, so that there is no doubt in what shades will look like.
