Jim:  Should have gotten the Batmobile with the Corvair drivetrain.  Factory engineering has this version laying down copious amounts of oil and tranny fluid, which only increases in volume the older they get.  No ejector is available but it doesn't take much driving in one of these before you wanna get out anyway! Tom & Keith

I don't think I will be making it to OHIO, from the looks of the map it would be about 350 mi one way.  If I could, I certainly would.  Planning on seeing  York, Strausburg, & Gettysburg.

Trying to get odds & ends finished up.  Wife wanted "decorator" switches and receptacles in house after painting.  Last night was finishing up that task.  Aluminum Wiring UGH!  Finished all the receptacles, and a 3 way switch.  And still fighting the 3 way, Banged Head [banghead] then this morning found out that there was not any power on 2 ckts, distributed in other areas of the house.  Of course one of the feed lines from a receptacle wire broke in the pigtail junction.  So did find the break and reconnected.  Still fighting the 3 way, going to have to set down with paper and pencil to see what I am doing wrong.

(Summary of problem: Upstairs hallway lights, switch downstairs when ON, upstairs switch operates fine, when downstairs is OFF, upstairs switch will not turn ON. I think I'm going to do a continuity check tonight to see which wire is common to both switches.)

Fun, Fun, Fun,

I won't be ordering that one, John. Not interested in building a realistic layout. I like my toy train version.

Hello All!    Jim A-  I have a 1688E from 1937 that I can have Fred restore for you & after it is finished I'll pack it up & send it your way. This particular version has the thin casting & it will need new Drive Wheels which I'll get for Fred to mount on & I'll place an order for them ASAP. The Motor & E-Unit function well & all of the other parts are original on it as well. If interested, just let me know here or on my e-mail. Bruce- Glad to know your Corvair is covered under Canada's generous goverment plan & that you get tax benefits for it also.Wink [;)] Sounds like the Corvair needs some Geritol for its old age to take care of the Oil leaks & such that it suffers from.Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]Clown [:o)]Clown [:o)] Don B- Hope you can make it to Ohio sometime to see us as we live in a Grits free zone & you can see the layout at the museum & the other layouts some of the OTTS Guys have. Buckeye- Hope all is well with you. CSXJohn- That photo you have of the folks riding the small N & S Train is a scaled down layout of their operations in the South!Wink [;)]Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]Clown [:o)] Take Care all.

Afternoon all!

Don, here is a web site that may be useful for your problem.

http://www.the-home-improvement-web.com/information/how-to/three-way-switch-option3.htm

John - gosh those NS trains always looked so big when Chief sent the photos. I guess it was his carpet layout perspective on things???? How did he edit out the people?

Nice and cool here today. High in the upper 50's. Colder predicted for Easter. My wife's sister has moved the Easter picnic from the local park to her house for Sunday afternoon.

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

That sounds like a fine machine, Keith. I want to find a 1688 someday. Back from shopping with the bride. At least I got a nice breakfast at my favorite diner out of it. Funny how we can go into the store for just one thing but come out with bags-full. Putting the litte guy down for some quiet time - hope he naps - maybe I can too!

Kieth!

What?  No comment on the pic of my Torpedo?  I think you're becoming complacent there, buddy!   You've had to fix so many of those lousy Lionel 1688's that you don't recognize a good Torpedo when you see one. Wink [;)]  Maybe you should save your money and buy one really good quality K-Line version...and stop playing with those refugees from the WWII scrap drive Wink [;)] Laugh [(-D].

Truth be told, every time I see a 1688 I cringe.  I gave away a real nice original and kick myself for doing it. Banged Head [banghead] The new K-Line is only a faint substitute at best.  I might have to buy that one off you if Jim turns down another good deal Wink [;)]

Afternoon all, John, thanks, I will have to order it.  Was not originally interested, but for the price, can't beat it.

Well, another potential good day shot to you know what.  I was just about to leave when I get a call about a patient needing emergency surgery.  This is two days in a row and at about the same time.  Worst part is that I am not even on call, but that is the way it goes.  I am TIRED! and plan on going home, eat dinner, and go to bed.  Have some connectors that will make wiring my fastrack much easier.  I hope to get to do this perhaps this weekend, but we are going to FIL's house for Saturday- his birthday, and then I will be helping out with Sunday services, no night church, so maybe then.

If I don't catch up with Y'all, have a great Easter!

And Passover for our Jewish friends.

Do they still do the bus tour out to the old launching areas and out near the shuttle pads?

Was the shuttle on the pad for the launch yet?

Brent

Brent:  No they don't get very close to the pads, they have an observation tower probably a mile, or more, away.  The shuttle was in the assembly building, it took numerous hail hits/dings a few weeks back and they are being repaired.  Current schedule is for sometime in May.

Keith,
Email sent!  I take it the difference between the 1688 and 1688E is the 'E' has an electric E-Unit?  If so, either would be fine by me! Smile [:)]

Good evening all,

It was sunny and snowy and cold in SE Indiana today with temps in the 30s.  I have been busy the last two days and have not had time to check in until now.  I will have to read all the posts later.  My wife and I went to Bloomington, IN to do some "antiquing".  We did not find anything, but it was a nice drive and it was a good day to do that sort of thing.  Today we cleaned house in preparation for the Easter gathering here.  I had to put away a lot of stuff because we will have a lot of little kids here as well.  I hope everyone has a good day and I will try to catch up on the posts tomorrow.  "Close to Home" and Numb3rs" are new tonight.  Jimtrumpie, I thought "Lost" was really good Wednesday night.

Keep on training,

MIke C. from Indiana

Saw some snowflakes today!  Everything is pretty green from the warm weather last week, but all the flowers are doomed for sure.  Put down fertilizer and grub killer today and picked up 5 more light fixtures for the basement as well as some illuminated 3-way switches.  Spent about $240 at Home Depot and it went FAST.  They had 6 fixtures in stock and I took them all to the counter, but luckily the lady noticed one of them was different - the boxes were identical, but they used different bulbs.  Would have been sad when I opened the box and found they were different.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hello all,

Quite a change in the weather!  I got about an inch of snow in the yard.  We had Good Friday Services tonight and all went well.  We'll have practice for Easter Vigil in the morning the services start at 8 p.m Saturday evening.  It has been real busy so I've not had much time to play with trains.  The bride is doing better after the carple tunnel but still needs help with stuff.  She is tough so all will be good soon.  I'm on night shift and on break so this will be brief.

Hope you all have a blessed Easter hoilday.

Jim

Evenin' some,  Very Early Mornin' to others.

Rested up after getting home from the museum, sure could tell it was Good Friday. Morning traffic was almost non-existent and the ride home wasn't near as bad as usual. It was very busy today with lots of kiddos, young & old alike, visiting the museum and saw lots of smiles. Hopefully I'll have some photos to post on Sunday, more than likely late sunday or early monday since I have a bit of cooking to do for sunday.

If most people think trains are for boys and not girls check out this link, especially the video.
