Happy Birthday Dennis  Happy B-Day [bday]  Happy B-Day [bday]

Roy, If you have time there is a really interesting Swap Meet in East Mesa.  It is out on the far side of town, exit 183 I believe.  they have interesting stuff!  When I was there the Train Museum and Park in Scottsdale had just opened for the season.  They have a nice series of layouts including a High Rail, and HO as well as some live steam.  Also worth the time.

Preparring for a 30 degree DROP in temperature in the next 36 hours!  Crazy weather.

Gest wishes to all!

Good morning all,

It is (will be) sunny and cold in SE Indiana with temps in the 30s today.  At least with the sun out, it does not seem so bad.  I talked to the people at the YMCA about reffing indoor soccer games.  The pay is not that great, but they throw in the membership as well.  Heck, running up and down half a basketball court and watching a game beats a treadmill any time of the day.  I may even get Lucas to sign up for it as well.  Blueberry Hill, "Points West" left some breakfast for you in the dining car.  I have managed to read most of the March CTT by now.  It sure is a good issue :-)  Now I scan the ads for some bargains.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

HI GIZ,

Got about a quarter inch of the white STUFF this morning at about 27 degrees.  A little greasy here on the roads.

  All have a good one.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It's a snow covered 27 degrees here. About an inch. Going up to 35 today, with a few flurries.

Today is grocery shopping day. Love that job. The prices just keep going up. No one talks about gasoline prices anymore, because there is nothing you can do about it.

Belated, but here....Happy Birthday, Dennis  Happy B-Day [bday]

Dining Car has rolled in and is well stocked. Breakfast. Later

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Hey y'all (I think that's Southern..I've been here waaaay too long)

I left the house today and it was a cool 39, getting to 57.  Back home that was spring weather!

Been really "swamped" at work, 'specially with this gator nonsense.  Can we get back to hockey now?  Picked up a MTH flat with fire engine (to go with my rescue train).  I never thought selling my Hot Wheels would be profitable, but it is!!!  I wonder if I can trade the rest for trains stuff?

Have a great day all!!  2 more days until Saturday!

Jim, That makes at least two of us.  We always used at the office as that is what our computer guy prefered.  I am using Trend Micro on this computer, but recently have been recomending Avast to friends and family.  The mags give it a high rating and it is FREE.

Good morning to everyone.

Temps here are 35 on the back porch, 38 in the pond and 62 in the greenhouse.  Little flurry activity but nothing on the ground.  Only predicted to go to 39 so I guess winter is finally here.

Don, Got your new layout plan via email, will review it after breakfast, looks good at first glance.

BTW, got the TCA quarterly and it has an interesting article about a young man who flew to the York Show from New Zealand!  Only 23 so he couldn't rent a car & had to get rides to the show from his motel with fellow TCA members.

Guess I'll join Chuck in the dinning car.

Colder (25 when I headed to work this morn'), don't know what the high is supposed to be.

No training last night!  Sad [:(]  Had to go get my haircut and let the hottie wash my hair and get my scalp massaged!  Shock [:O]  Then the wife wanted to go shopping for pet supplies and exchange some stuff a Bed, Bath and Beyond... Beyond what?  There aren't any trains there so what's the point!  Disapprove [V]

Anyway, got a call from the LHS, 681 and 2020 are cleaned, lubed, and R-T-G!  Pick 'em up today after work!  Pics tomorrow!  Come to think of it, I haven't posted pics of the Christmas gear and the Christmas passeneger train! Banged Head [banghead] Sorry fellas!

We just received the advance-advance copies of the March issue from our printer (for the record, the on-sale date is Jan 30th) and I want you guys to know that while Chief was up here a few months back, he posed for some pictures for us. When you get the issue, he's the guy on the cover who's sitting in the bass boat, holding the fishing rod.

Frank would normally be too modest to mention it!

Morning all

Cool but sunny.  Plan on final sanding on the bookcase and maybe stain.  Picking up more glass shelves I had cut.  If I have more shelf space, does that justify more trains?!?!?  I've got a lot of reading to get done before class this weekend, glad I'm off till Thursday nightshift.

Prayers for the health of all

Good morning from a cold and sunny Chicago where I share a CTT every Tues evening with the conductor of my late night scoot (he's a C&NW old head and a blast to speak with). Can't wait to get that March issue to see the cover. I feel like I am keeping plates in the air like those circus performers I used to watch on TV -- with three classes and regular work. But I'm not complaining - I like the work.  One more day 'til Dennis' real birthday Happy B-Day [bday]

Good Morning All,

Just wanted to warn all of you folks inthe lower 48 to get ready. The weather is supposed to warm back up to around zero F (from -40°F) in the next couple of days. That mean we will be sending a cool breeze to the south to be enjoyed by everyone. Hope you all enjoy it as much as we have for the past few days. Stuff starts breaking at -40 to - -50 so I am glad to see the temps warm back up for a while.

OPINION NEEDED— CALLING ALL OPINIONS:

I am going to building some wall mounted train display cases in a few weeks and I have have not decided on just how to set the trains on the shelves. Who votes using track mounted to the shelves and who votes for simply  running the shelves through the router table a dadoing a couple of grooves the width of the track for the trains to sit in? Lets hear those thoughts folks

Kevin, the most important thing I have heard is to make 'em level with end stops so nothing falls off. The cheapskate in me would groove the wood - then I don't have to buy track. Have you looked into any of the shelving advertised in CTT - some of it seems pretty reasonably priced.

Hey Cheif, While you're at CharlesRO ask them if they have shipped the C&0 0-8-0 to that annoying guy in Maryland... If you could, also mention that I am very anxiously awaiting its arrival, have been ever since Lionel put it in the catalog and then I found the fundage to order it! Big Smile [:D]

Also, drop a container of that sweet syrup while you are above the area... I'll catch it!

KEVIN,

I being a wood shop teacher, have made mine by using wood that is three quarters of an inch thick by 4inches wide, a true four inches you can go wider if you want.  I cut them to be 48 inches long, this way they won't sag as much with the shorter length.  For your sides you use the same demensions or what ever length you need.  I then set my table saws fence at 1 inch and raise the blade so it is about 3/8", then run a groove down the length of each piece.  I then move the fence out 1 and 1/8"  and run another groove down the length of the board.  For the sides I put a dado head on the table saw set the width at 3/4" set the height of the blade at 3/8" and run a groove crossgrain on the sides at about 5 inches apart.  I will then air nail it together.  I use some 1/4" luan for a solid back.  You can make them as wide as you want but there might be sag after time and the 4ftX 4ft. works good for handling.  You can paint or stain them to your liking.  Hope this helps?

Laz,
Those sound like some nice shelving units!

One other thing you could do is screw through the luan into the shelves to help prevent sag.  you would only need 3 or 4 per shelf.

When I do my room I am going to have two large windows between the main basement room and the train room.  These will be 4 ft wide x 4 ft tall, I plan to put 2 shelves at the top and one (using the sill as a second) shelf at the bottom and light them with 2 under the cabinet halogen bulbs, or I may look into those rope lights if I can find a way to hide them.  Then along the walls I am going to do something similiar to what Wes has done for his shelf system.

I have to get back to Pittsburgh and see if my tenants have tossed my old O-27 track, hopefully not because that is what I want to use in the windows (on tempered glass shelves) and around the walls.

BTW - Wife has approved the 2 track shelf system through the main basement!  That means I will have a VERY long 2 track mainline, as well as the 2 sub mainlines on the big layout for a total of 4 mainlines on the layout!  The LHS is going to love that track order!

Thanks for the information on the catenary system by MTH.  Will see if I can order it from Ready To Roll in Miami FL, they are major MTH dealer here in south Florida area, plus they have a good rep for being an honest dealer.

Sorry folks...Mr. Keller was bending the truth about the Frankster holding the rod on the cover...truth is he is clueless about angling.  He came to TexASS to fish for the big largemouth hogs we have down here, but I took him to a special lake where we stocked some northern pike about ten years ago - now they are trophy size.

Anyway, all he was good for was rowing the boat...see pic

Small Layouts are cool! Low post counts are even more cool! NO GRITS in my pot!!!
