Good Morning Everyone !!

Another good Saturday Morning Live from Buckeye !!  Laugh [(-D]

Well, basement is starting to leak here again with all the rain lately & snow melting, but only a couple trickles so far, not like a while back. Rested most of this week after not working for a whole month's vacation. At least it has warmed up a lot !

Hope everyone has a nice weekend !!

Oh, there is a train show this Sunday in Erie, Pa. for anyone in that area !

Thanks, John

Just checked out my investment portfolio. Shock [:O]  With the week the stock market has had it'll be a while before I'll be adding any new trains.Sad [:(]

Mornin Everyone,

Buckeye, Thank you for that list of things Southerners won't say.  Being a Southerner myself (Proudly from the Lone Star State), I can relate to a large number of those.

Guess what...it's not snowing today.  It is cold....about 20 and should warm up to the upper 30's by early afternoon.  I think tomorrow is going to be the better day.

Like Laz, I watched the History Channel Freight Trains special again and ran my train for a while.  I went to the LHS yesterday and picked up a few extra pieces of track, a remote switch and an uncoupler section of track along with a lighted bumper.  I now have a side track to provide a little more action other than just an oval track.

I some how missed in the news yesterday about the tornados.  My thoughts and prayers go out to all.  I was in a tornado when I was about 5 years old.  My Parents and I were visiting my Uncle down in Central Texas when a tornado came through and rolled the mobile home we were staying in over on it's side.  For many years after that it only took a small rain and a few claps of thunder to send me screaming through the house.

Hope all have a good weekend.

Good morning from a sunny yet snowy Crystal Lake where I am in training to become the next CTT editor by shoveling the driveway again - busy weekend: my brother, wife and baby have suddently decided to come out and visit today so the bride is all in a tizzy cleaning and I'm skunked out of going to the train show a couple of towns away. Rats. I'm working both services in video tomorrow too. Hopefully I will get to work on the layout a bit. Just discovered my bounding over snow drifts in my small car has pushed out something connected to the catalytic converter - I can't reach it- the engines sounds like an unmuffled motor cycle. Sigh.

Yesterday was warm and nice, just got up a few minutes ago and it was snowing BIG snow flakes.

Buckeye, thanks for bringing up the question about who made the generic flats, these would look right at home behind a beep.Cool [8D]

Colin - I have given a number of presentations, the method I chose is:

- ALWAYS know your information and be comfortable with it, Remeber that the people in the audiance do NOT know as much about the subject matter as you do.  But do NOT say anything you are not sure of.

- When looking at the audiance look just above their heads, do not make eye contact with anyone.

As articulate as you are, I'm sure you will not have any problem!  Confidence is the key!

Keith - "Since your wife has a Buncko Group, Maybe you can form a "Trainco Group" & start a California version of OTTS.Wink <img src=" border="0" /> "  Keith do you realize how much dissention I would create with a California OTTS?  Its just to busy here, anyway the OHIO guys need something to keep them busy during these long hard winters.  People out here just way to mobile.

Some of you may have seen this thread.  It is about a guy who started a train club for 4th graders!  Really fantastic!!

Good morning, well it was morning when I started reading the thread.

Sounds like everyone got through the nasty weather OK.  Pretty nice here right now, it is supposed to get cooler over the next few day.

Got a Scenic Express Catalog and a Diecast Direct catalog in Yesterdays mail.  Never a problem finding a place to spend money.

Had a little setback on the Docksider conversion.  Got the boiler casting back on and everything checked out.  Started to do the antenna installation which is based on using the handrail as an antenna.  Requires the removal of the exiting hand rails, that worked OK & the removal of the three plastic handrail stanchions, that didn't work OK the one closest to the cab must have been glued in so it broke off.  Before I can finish by replacing the handrail with tined copper wire furnished by ERR, I will have to obtain a replacement stanchion.  I know I can find one at York, but really don't want to wait that long.  It looks like this same item is used on a lot of Lionel engines but can't find a diagram that gives the part number.  Anyone reading this that knows what it might be?  The engine does run fine and responds to all of the TMCC commands.  Of course it does not have any sounds other than the horn.

SoapBox [soapbox]  While on the subject of TMCC, I hope Lionel redesigned the new TMCC Legacy system with state of the are PC boards.  They would be able to vastly reduce the size of the components if they did.  There is no reason they could not put the whole system into an engine the size of the Docksider if they used proper design from the start.  Other manufacturers are putting DCC and sound into N gauge engines. Just my My 2 cents [2c].

I have a suspicion that Laz would be in the shop building a deer stand like the Chief's if it were a little warmer in PA during the deer season. Big Smile [:D]

Well, all I have to do is paint the load now !  Maybe a zinc oxide I was thinking of. Also have to figure out some tie downs. Maybe the ones John, (jefelectric) suggested the other day & probably start on another one for another car. Here's a picture of it so far & the car is quite a bit heavier now !!

Thanks, John

Fighting a head cold and hoping it doesn't migrate to the lungs.  Had signed up for OT, so had to drive in this morning.  Snow flurries, but roads were okay.  Heard they had some accidents on 40 (that's pronounced Fardy) and 44 (Fardy Far) going into STL, apparently on bridges and overpasses.  Speaking of which, a bridge over 55 (fifty-five) broke in the wind and a huge slab of concrete side wall fell onto all 4 lanes of 55 Thursday night.  Luckily, only one car hit it and the driver was not hurt!

Need to run wire for accessories on my layout, but not feeling like it right now.  I "ran" the wire to my uncoupling/activating track section by cutting a wide slot in the foam, just the size of the profile of the track section, and pulling the track through.  The track section covers the hole and didn't have to mess up the wires for my temp layout!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

John, I only go above the Mason Dixon line if I have to, not for desire.  I am heading up to work on the train layout.  Had to do a fair bit of reading to make sure of things as I am preparing to run the wires for the level that will have TMCC, but be wired for DCS in case I ever get an itch to change things up, I won't have to rewire it.  It is a pleasant 70something out right now.  Not much going on.  Pretty outside as compared to the other day.

Take care,

dennis

Good Evening all!

It's been hovering around freezing all day today.  Yesterday's snow and ice storm resulted in  power outages in the Toronto area and a few thousand are still without electricity tonight.  Plowing the slushy mess off my laneway was a major nightmare even though there was only about 3" of frozen precip.

John, really really nice looking flatcar load!  Just got a Lionel 40 footer and it seems mine is missing the real gold brick load it should have come with....or you'd think so considering what they cost Wink [;)]

Took my first attempts at weathering with chalks these last few days.  I practiced up on a mid '80's Lionel GN ore car which now looks really well worn.  Seems the trick to weathering is to use as little material as possible, go very slowly and work on small areas at a time.  It's so easy to overdo the piece you're working on with the end result being one big mess.  Luckily with chalks you can simple wash them off and start over.  Wood kits wouldn't be so forgiving

Then I tackled my Altas switch tower after being satisfied that I kinda, sorta, maybe knew what I was doing. Wink [;)]  Added some railroad crew, lights and other details while I was at it.

I'll try getting some pics tonight for tomorrows Foto Phun.

Good night and have a great tomorrow.

Looks good John.  Did you start with square brass tubing?  I have some gondolas that I would like to construct loads for, but not sure what I want to use.

Some one on another thread or forum once suggested thin black tape like the striping tape they sell in hobby shop to represent metal strapping.  Never tried it but it should work.

Well the wife thinks it must going to snow here in Dixie tonight as I started work on my room after a year and a half of saying I was (well the problem was everytime I was going to she came up with another prodject need to be done first) well heres some pics after I put in new windows about a year ago I ended up tearing out some paneling to do so so I'm going in with 3/8" plywood I got cheap as it had some water stains and mold on it so I hit it with bleach water right away (about a year ago also) and I'm hitting back side with KILTZ and will do front after its all up. anyway heres some pics

I'm still going to have to get some 3/4" ply wood to redo the floor. as its weak in a few places and a couple of smal holes have developed in a couple.
