Seventeen plus years ago, I posted for the first time on this forum under the name Buckeye Riveter. The next thing I knew was Chuck Mathews was on my door step with a train to run on my garden railroad, but there was another motive. The Chief asked Chuck to see if I he could find out if I was "real".

And that is how my friendship started with Chief Eagles.

I first met the Chief in person at the Wheeling, WV Cabelas when he was working part time as an onboard charger rep. We talked for an 1 1/2 and became instant friends.

In 2006, the Chief paid me a visit to see the BO&W RR. Of course, he crawled under the layout to see how I wired the TMCC. He  has provided me at least 6 SC-2 Controlers and 0-72 switches for the new layout.

As we kidded each other, I changed the name of Rolesville to Rosieville on all my posts. Rosieville's main tourist attraction was the dump that glowed.

In 2012, I was fortunate to vist the Chief and Ms. Pam at their house on Main St. in Rolesville, NC. He loved my Buckeye gifts especially the Buckeyes held by Pam.

Over the years, many of us started to hear about the Chief's train box.  A little photo editing was added. The Chief really laughed at the new title printed on the box.

Of course I was given a grand tour of the Box by the Chief before the trains.

In 2020, as we discussed my new gig at the Roundhouse. He told me he thought it was great I had volunteered to help them. He then asked me if I had seen the most recent addition of TRAINS. I told hime I did not subscribe. Two weeks later, I received a notice I had a subscription as a gift from the Chief. Bottom line, that is what the Chief was all about, a giving and caring person from a small town in North Carolina.

I'll miss seeing his name pop up on my cell phone. Rest in peace my great friend and thank you for your friendship, fellowship and fun for these last 17 years. My prayer for Ms. Pam and the family during their time of greiving.

Truely, this is sad news.  Thanks for letting us know, Don.

A real "Southern Gentleman", he always tried to be the voice of reason and a friend.

This has been a year of many friends, mentors and leaders leaving this mortal coil.  I am saddened by this news.

May God and his angels lift Chief Eagles up to his heavenly reward. Prayers and condolences to his family and friends, that they be comforted.

RIP, Chief.  You will be missed.

My sympathies to FRank's Family and friends.  I didn't know him too well other than a few meetings at York.  I will keep him and his family in my thoughts.

I'm sure the pain for his family is intense, but his own suffering is over.

Still, the loss of the Chief is a great loss to us all.

Ride easy on the "Night Train" Chief, for a glorious morning awaits you.

Extremely sad news.

The Chief was an inspiration to so many members of this forum. From his days of "The Carpet Central" he helped many achieve their own dreams.

To his many friends here and across the Country he will be always remembered as a truly Great man. Godspeed Chief.

Good Afternoon,

Unfortunately, I have sad news to report,  Frank Eagles (The Chief) passed away this morning!

I received a call from his daughter, that his wife was called early that he had passed.  She said he had taken a "turn for the worse", and his heart failed".  At this time of course there are NOT any arrangements made, but that she would notify me as soon as they have the information.

Of course I am saddened with his loss.  I had just talked with him yesterday, and he said he was feeling pretty good, but his voice was breaking up quite a bit and he was having shoulder pain.  He was quite happy though, he had just found out that a $6 million grant he had been working on for his community had just been approved.  One of the many things it was going to be used for is a mobile health vehicle for the community.

Frank is survived by his wife Pam, son Frankie, and Daughter Cathy.  I believe he has 5 grandchildren.  (1 boy, 4 girls).

He also was one of the founders of this thread 17 years ago.  And I know he was very generous with his trains to many participants here, as well as local children in his area.  I am sure he will be missed in Rolesville NC.

May he Rest in Peace, the  last 8 or 9 months have been extremely hard for him.

DJSpanky
They're doing PSAT's at school;

Back when I was high school during the Jurassic Period one of my teachers told us:

"Let me let you in on a dirty little secret.  Unless you're planning on going to a prestige university or college don't sweat the SAT's too much.  Of course, do your best.  But all most colleges care about is whether you can pay the bills or not, not how you did on the SAT's."

Just sayin'.

Mornin' guys and gal(s). Sunny and warm along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Constantly on the go this month. Did attend a family funeral over the weekend, in Richmond. Working the train every day, with little time for anything else.

Good to hear Chief is improving.

Learned that the wuhan stole the wife of a former co-worker. She was the mother of 3 school age children. Hard news.

Plenty of rain this last week. Pushing the 5" mark and is raining hard as I type. I did manage to cut, split and stack about a face cord yesterday. Seven more and the wood shed north side will be filled. South side is full of two + year dry wood that I will be using this year. SIL wants to deer hunt tomorrow but looks like he will be rained out.

A note on Chief:

Just got off the phone with Shake and Bake. He had talked to Da Chief. Said he is in rehab and doing better. He is in good spirits because a 6 million dollar grant he had been working on with others for his community has been aproved. Good for him! Yes

Ellie - Cute story. I used to set up a Christmas layout at the bank Wifey worked at. Amusingly, she told me, it was the little old ladies that had to touch everything. They would also spend the most amount of time watching the trains. It kindled fond memories for them, they would say.

Ellie,

Its been nice to have your contributions here on the Coffee Pot.  I had some time on my hands tonight so I have been creeping on profiles. I enjoyed reading yours.  Big Smile  I understood every word of it.  I just have to ask if Greek is your native language.  You obviously have plenty of time on your hands to do what you did.

Great work and good luck with your dream.   LOL

Thank you for the kind words! Glad you found my little bio amusing- I really should update it, because that dream I talked about is starting to be put into action (albeit on a very small scale). I've officially started my repair business, and have been handing out business cards and talking to folks I meet with hope that some time soon I'll be seeing folks come to me with trains they want fixed.
So far I'd say you average snail has nothing on how slow business has been, but I'm excercising my patience- After all, the lack of work to do for other people does mean I'm free to work on my own personal projects more.

As shocking a revelation as it might be to your typical CTT forum reader, greek is in fact not my first language! Smile, Wink & Grin
All joking aside, I do indeed find plenty of ways to use up my time, and there is usually a reasonable ammount of it to work with.
Love looking at your prewar 'flyer pictures, lovely stuff. Should really post pictures of the small roster I have.

Hope everyone is doing well this weekend, I little story from today at the museum to potentially amuse you folks:
I was checking up on the visitor's center between my other duties, and peeked at the layouts. I noted my 'old west' consist had been derailed, with the 'sheriff and outlaw' car really off the tracks, and the horses on the horse car in some dissaray. There was a small, kiddie size chair that had been placed right in front of the layout. Clearly, some mischief had ocurred. Very soon I was filled in on what had taken place at the site of the derailment. A clever young girl had taken a liking to my horses and decided she wanted to play with them. I've found that of all the forces of nature that exist, those of a detirmined child can be some of the most underestimated. Luckily, aside from the unfortunate disgruntling of a few plastic horses, no casualities ocurred and the train was quickly righted.
Moral of the story? Make your plexiglass taller, bolt your chairs to the floor, or befall the consequences of allowing tempted young visitors near miniature horses!

I'm afraid that's all I have for you tonight- heartfelt well-wishes go out to Spanky, Chief, and anyone else struggling with something tough this weekend. Take care all.

So sorry for your loss Spank.  Just about this time last year I lost my best friend, a great guy who was part of my life for a good 50 years.  I think about him often, but try to remember the great times we had.

There was nothing else I could but take the hit, straighten up, and continue the march.

One of us has to carry on.

Spanky- losing people is hard. It goes without saying, but it really is true. It's hard to understand it until it happens, and suddenly a cornerstone of your life isn't there anymore. I'm sorry for your loss, wish it were possible to ease the pain. Take it easy, healing doesn't happen overnight. Wishing you and your coworkers well in the wake of this sad news.

Hope Chief is holding on, well wishes go out to him too.

Been very busy at the Trolley Museum. Brought in the recently serviced Lionel #41 with my three 'space and military' themed cars last weekend. The kids like to stop and start the train on the layout off and on rapidly until something derails. This little critter won't do that, too slow and the stops and starts are too gentle. Yet when I show up this morning the caboose is off the track, and the RMT Budd RDC on the display track is now well off of it. Not sure what happened, clearly somebody reached in and caused some trouble.

Put the 1862 general and 'old west' cars on- the kids really love the car with the horses.
Next weekend is time to switch to Halloween- going to be putting an all black and orange consist on the layout. Hopefully it makes a few folks smile!

Life is very busy lately- between volunteer work at the museum, hikes with a friend exploring old railroad right-o-ways, and doing projects and helping at home, been a lot on the plate and less time on the computer. Harvested ~13 cups of silverberries for my dad to make something with, looking forwards to tasting whatever he bakes.
Weather has been chilly but not too much rain- the folliage here in western Mass is looking lovely.

I remember when we moved to Calif. from Oregon I was a kid but the 1st summer was really really hot, then we got more used to it.

I'll tell you, we moved to Virginia from New Jersey in 1987 and we're STILL not used to the summers here, they can be a positive inferno with the heat and humidity!  We don't feel so bad because even the natives have trouble with it!  On the worst days for heat our neighborhood looks like something out of that Discovery Channel series "Life After People."  Nobody's outside!

Sun shining nicely now but earlier this morning it was so cold I had the heater on 1st time even though I haden't vacumed out the dust and cobwebs from summer.

Dennis,,,Laugh So it gets down to 50 and you turn on the heat. Some of us would just bake a potato in the oven most of us here would open the window. Smile, Wink & Grin Reminds me of my cousin who moved to Fort Myers FL and when he came home when his mother died it was mid to high 60s and he was wrapped up like it was -20F.  Guess it has to do with what your used to?

So I guess we have your heat. It hit 87 today and will again tomorrow, Winter will come late next week. Waiting for the cool down so I can do wood. Yes

Sounds like you got lucky on the car. Smile

News on Franks and Roy, please?
