BIG Winds yesterday, pick-up sticks and limbs today.

I did get all my hairs cut at 9:20 this morning and only had to wait 3 minutes to be seated.. Yes On-line check-in works.

If not for those cartoons I would have never known how to get even with my older brother. Laugh

Good Morning................

Mom had an ablation scheduled yesterday and wound up having 2 stents inserted. My sister will accompany Mom to the cardio doc next go 'round, there are things we are not being told.

Mom will need to wear a vest, however, we are going explore a pacemaker, which she'll have zero issues with.  Mom scheduled to come home this afternoon.

Cleaned up the house and took the bike to Jenni's, we had dinner then ran out for ice cream at the Wawa (Dairy Queen closes at 9).  Got a couple of bottles of PowerAide for Jenni's house.  Left this morning about 6 to come home, it had rained and it is VERY humid.  My knees were damp when I got home, yes it was THAT damp.

Cloudy showers later, 90ish 90% humidity.

Fife - looks like my "trip" will be postponed for the time being, need to keep an eye on Mom.

Best wishes for your Mom 'Devil!

"Wet knees" damp?  Yeah, sounds like summer's arrived in your part of Jersey all right.  And I thought we had it bad in this part of Virginia!  Gets so humid down here you can cut the air with a knife and spread it on a good southern biscuit!

Great day on The North Bluff. Mid 70s and low humidity.

Rich, take care of mom! Angel

Got one of these yesterday at the old Big R for $600.00+ tax. they wanted $800.00 because it had been sitting for a long time and looked like it. Talked the manager down on it. They don't sell them anymore.

When I got it home the carb butterfly is frozen from sitting outside the building in the weather. It runs okay but only wide open. Trying to WD-40 it loose. If not a new one is under $20.00 Touched it up and looked it over, now it looks as new again.

I knew it was worth about twice what I got it for. Here it is at Rural King. Same thing.

https://www.ruralking.com/black-diamond-30-ton-log-splitter…

This is the third log splitter I have had. I made the last two. My mistake is both times I designed and built them but with shared parts and money from a so called friend. So it always comes to a time where they just leave town or want it back. Stupid me. Bang Head This one is ours and will long outlast my old a$$. So getting it running like new is the latest project.

Morning folks!

Sunny and very nice. Beautiful day and evening yesterday. High 80's and low hoomidity Thumbs Up Grilled chicken on the back porch and sat out til dark. Very pleasant.

Low 90's today but still very nice! Will find something to grill tonight!

No joy on resolving the low DCS signal on the layout I visited Tues. I did come up with a workaround for the time being, but only on the main line. Customer leaving town so we will revisit the issue in late July.

Anj - prayers for your mother Angel

Fife - I forgot to look into the 1309 rewheeling yesterday. Hope did it go?

Kev - nice! I always wanted a small splitter as the firewood we end up with most years, even though it is 'split', is too big and needs a second or third split. But no room for anything like that.

Regards, Roy

Howdy all !

Supposed to cool down a little bit today.  Thumbs Up

Prayers for your Mom, Rich. I had my ICD, I call it a pacemaker with an attitude, implanted just five years ago and in that short time they have been improved tremendously. They aren't near as sensitive to external interference now, with mine I have to be aware of some electrical devices and several times that I have had to make a trip to er they need to know that MRI's are FORBIDDEN. When the grandson was much younger we played laser tag, after the ICD Gramps had to hang up his vest and laser gun.

Roy, The DCS guru spent some time in S.D. visiting us. At one point I thought he was going to be writing his own softeware for it but never heard anything more about it. No sense crying over spilled milk, if and when my Proto 2 and/or 3 engines crap out I guess they could be converted to ERR electronics.

Later !

V8Vega
he said when your not watching the TV turn it off.

Interesting, that's a flip from the old days of picture tube TV's, which I'm sure most of us remember.  Back in those days the advice was don't "turn-it-on, turn-it-off, turn-it-on, turn-it-off" repeatedly, because that was bad for the TV!

Great news SJ!!!!!

Well after a lot of F-ucking around with that log splitter carb,,,,I win. It is running like it should and will be just fine!

Feel good about the whole process. Got a new carb on the way cost all of $18.34 but just beating the problems on the original make it worth the fight.

I've got a bit of sad news.

I found out yesterday, quite by accident, that a great friend of the hobby passed away back in April.

His name was Al Seebach Jr., and he was the owner of the "Old And Weary Car Shop," a fun train store in Tappan NY.  A wonderful place to visit, especially if you were a fan of the old New York, Ontario & Western Railroad.

Since I live in Virginia I was lucky if I was able to visit Al's shop once, maybe twice a year, but it was always a highlight to my trips up north.  I can't say I knew Al very well, but he was always very welcoming to anyone who came in the shop and couldn't do enough for you while you were there, either to help with a product or a question, or just to shoot the breeze about trains.  A true gentleman of the old school.  I don't know what the future of the shop's going to be but if it goes I and so many others will miss it quite a bit.

Here's a five-star Yelp review I wrote about the place in July of 2015.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/old-and-weary-car-shop-tappan

Rest in peace Al!  If what I've seen on-line is any indication you will be sorely missed!

V8Vega

24 hours since Fifedog yesterday.

Sun 83/55 Mon. 87/56 Tue. 85/57

My TV is back and working well. I was without a TV 1 day short of 2 weeks. I had really fried it by leaving it on all day everyday for 5 years and the repair man wanted a additional $50 so It cost $385. It would cost $550 or $600 for a equivalant new one with California tax so if it lasts 3 years I figure it will be worth it. But if I had known it would cost this much I probably would have got a new one. What would you have done?

Remember Fundimensions Woodside Reefers? I had some out on shelves and I found a box with 5 more and I have 14 of them in a group on shelves.

I also found a box in storage of like new fundimensions and Industrial Rail tank cars.

My wife turns the TV on when she gets up and it stays on till she goes to bed. If we go out of town it's on 24 hours day. as of yet ( knocking on wood ) we have not had a problem. We have 2 LG's at present, one is about 7 years old the other is about 2 years old. I have a Westinghouse which was our first flat-screen TV I got Dec 2008 and it was on all day and has since become my computer monitor about 6 years ago and it is on even longer as I normally get up before her. So leaving it on all day, I question if that is the problem, now with the old plasma TV yes, I would agree. as the plasma would wear out, and no you can't get new plasma put in it, as some box appliance stores tried to push, saying you could.

Afternoon folks!

Mid 90's today and temps for foreseeable future running 5 degrees above normal - what ever normal is for these parts....

Pool filter developed a leak in the bottom case - plugging it with flexseal and hope it lasts until the replacement comes in. Normally flexseal would be fine but the bottom is a bowl shape and the hairline crack is in a crevice. Spent all yesterday afternoon and this morning nursing the curing rubber caulk. PITA...

SJ - great news re Mrs SJ! Prayers for her continued recovery.

Fife and Anj - prayers for your moms!

Fife - thanks for the link - will provide me some evening entertainment while the Mrs watches her shows!

Kev - good deal on the carb fix!

Regards, Roy

Hello there,

Kev.....good deal with the splitter.

spent most of the week doing yard and garden work. Sat up 3 old bathtubs as a makeshift raised garden for Mrs. Did some mowing and general cleanup.

We got the 2nd dose of SHINGRIX on Wednesday, felt about half wupped, Thursday and Friday.

Spent most of yesterday doing overdue PM on skid steer and hauling sh!t.

Today was a lazy day. Mrs stuffed a beef heart, yummy. Pulled pork and fixings this evening at daughters.

Roy or any electronics guru.......Starting to finalize plans for the upcoming layout..thinking about using circuit #1 from here.

http://www.circuitous.ca/OriginalToggle.html

. It's been 45 years since I've had electronics theroy. I know there's going to be a surge to charge the capacitors but I'm having a brain fart factoring the diode into the continuous current. I'm also planning to use a 3pdt switch with the extra pole controlling frog polarity. Any words of advice?

Best head to bed.

Prayers for those in need and the end of this pandemic.

Another great day on The North Bluff above Marseilles! Could use a little Storm but I can wait.

Thanks Banks, Don't know how much use I will get out of that splitter at my age (less every year now) but the price was right!

My BP monitor died so I had to get a new one today at Walmart. Not much else to report. Zzz

Dennis, glad you got out to Church.

Mornin' Fellas

Been a while, I know. Lots going on and lost track of time.

Not a whole lot going on other than I watched the rewheeling of 1309! That was awesome.

One of the guys TheQ teaches at a local college with has a daughter, she stopped by on Saturday to watch the kids for us so we could run some ehrands. Very nice young lady and the kids loved her, so she is coming back this Friday so TheQ and I can go out for our 14 year anniversary (actually Wednesday).

Morning folks!

Gonna be pretty warm as temps level around 95, but hoomidity going up! Although it looks pretty flat here, DFW was built around the Trinity River and thus the entire area is a low spot - thus hoomidity sinks in...

Pool filter Flex Shot and overlaying Flextape repair held up for 5 hrs of test under pressure (20 psi) yesterday, and then sat all night with no leaks. If it holds til the new part shows up I will be happy.

Banks - if you are referring to the diodes across each relay coil, they are there to make sure the magnetic field in the coil collapses when primary DC power to the coil is removed.

Happy anniversary lion88roar!

Spanky, we're opening back up s-l-o-w-l-y here in Viginia.  Restaurants can open for seating if distancing is practised, and thank goodness, we've been able to get back into our favorite Italian place and our new favorite barbecue joint.

You have to wear masks in stores, and when going into restaurants, but while you're eating the maks can come off.  Thank goodness.  How do you suck veal parmagiana through a straw?

Hopefully things will open up more as the Fourth of July approaches.

Saw an article in the paper this AM that people with Type O blood have a good resistance to COVID-19.  I'm O-positive, so's the wife.  That's a relief.
