Wonderful news about your Mom Fifedog! Both you and she stay strong!
Fife great news.
Kevin I live in S.C. I bought an item from N.C. it went to Atlanta, then it went to CA. when seller asked about it at his P.O. the idiot gave him a brush off, and said that is the normal route for it to go. But on the other hand, now that I live here ( I have never had as bad mail service as I do here and it has zero to do with my local P.O. ) my packages will get to atlanta and I swear they must have disputation centers there. as I have watch my packages go from one to the other, the worst it did this 6 times between the two before it got to Augusta where my mail comes out of just before here. I have more stories about the P.O. than I have time to tell lol.
Raining here today. 67* suppose to goto 71 we will see.
Over did it a bit yesterday, Decided to rearrange my office/room and moving the desk is not simple, it is 3 pieces with the top weighing more than the bottom two pieces combined.
No new train news. Oh I bought a Polar Express coach car that the one truck needs a little work on for $3.93 + shipping lol.
Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne

Morning. 58 and rainy. Got to do a gro run as Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ales on sale. Get carrots and potatoes for a roast we have. Maybe some Train Box chores. Dr.'s apt tomorrow. Human Services phone meeting this afternoon. Wifey off feeding kids in trailer park in the rain. Good for her.
Continued prayers for Fifey Mom. Gove may go to phase 2 announcement at 5. Not meeting the numbers but too much pressure. Restaurants are screaming. Later.

Yeah RT I got more stories as well but this one is the latest.
Chief, Talking about doctor apts. I forgot to say,,,Well I had my webcam doctor apt yesterday and it was not bad,, he!! he talked to me for 40 minutes, I think that was a record. All is good but I have too much iron in my blood (a guy thing) he thinks it may also be pushing my liver numbers up. (I think it is all the ) So I have to bleed out at least twice a year. So I made a donation apt next month with the Red Cross to get rid of some so the body can replace it. All of the stuff I was worried about with my blood work he did not seem to mind??? Go figure!

Kev, I was having to do that for a while too. Gave blood 3 times a year. Then I got the blood cell thingy. Now count is fine. Good luck with that.
Thanks Frank, What is the blood cell thingy???
That is what I like about this place, we help each other out!
Back in 08 when they thought I had bone cancer they were also doing phlebotomy on me twice to three times a week for the same thing, high iron count. Then I went to Mayo and they told me not to worry, so I am not sure what to think today but I can give blood, been doing it for 40 years plus. I just hate going to the red cross to give and they say you can't have tats or pirecing to give blood but everyone taking your blood is covered with tats and have pirecing where you can see it and GOD knows where else!
Good morning all,
Not a good morning. Soccer league cancelled for the summer. Another Indy car race cancelled. Local paper absorbing two other papers which means the local is probably on its last legs as well. Really worried about 500. Last possibility of working at home went down the tubes as well. Took forever last night to set up stuff for heavy trash pickup. No guarantee they will take half the stuff I set out. Still can't find out status of tax return. Trying to order phone for wife thru Net10 is an exercise in masochism. Not finding much to be happy about here lately. My postal story is about taking 4 days to go from the Cincinnati area to Greensburg, IN. Could have walked down to where it was and walked back home quicker. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Kev & Chief, Many many years back I was a constant donor at the blood bank but it seemed like the abilities of their staff, maybe just a local thing, to find a vein went down the dumper. It got to where I don't think they could find their butt with both hands let alone find a vein without feeling like they were trying to harpoon a whale. Eventually I quit going all together.
Going in later this morning for my ct for Tuesday's visit to the oncology center. Will be discussing changes to infusion schedule, stay with once a month or revert back to biweekly as it was prior to the Covid crap.
Still no word as to when the museum will reopen, I would be surprised if it was before the end of June at the earliest. Oh well, just speaking for myself with my issues I have to be extremely careful and there are others there that are in the same boat. I guess that's what happens when you are around a bunch of old farts like me.
Rainy morning and 62. Warmer today. More rain on the way. Crops and gardens happy.
Dr.'s apt this afternoon. A quarterly thingy.
Kev, very rare blood cell cancer. Was caught very early and no damage. 3 years are up in 90 days. Will stop taking once a week cemo tablets in 90 days. Been no signs in blood in 2 years. Will monitor with blood tests yearly.
Dougsnotagrump. Got great veins. One especially in left arm jumps up everytime it sees a needle.
Have a good one.
Another day of Gray here on The North Bluff but not as cool.
Wow Chief, glad you caught that stuff when you did.
DougDG, I hear you on the quality of the people drawing blood today. I am like DaChief, I got veins that a blind guy could hit and they still find ways to leave a huge black & blue mark when they are done?.
Prayers for Fife mom and family.
Sun and 66. Feels good.
The burst dam at Midland Mi is big news as it was reported in need of repair 7 years ago. The large lakes formed by the dam are dry except for the flowing streams that once were there. Lakefront property owners are really crying about how they now have no property value. You'd think they would be greatful that they were not in the flood.

I ate at Cracker Barrel! Ohio is coming back!
Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
Northwoods, hummingbirds, of course.
Dougnotta - Gawd, how I love your dry wit. Wished Sandy Eggo wasn't 3000 miles away.
Thanks again, everybody. It means a lot.
Fife, We're all here to support our brothers from different mothers and not to be sexist that applies as well to the ladies that frequent this asylum.
Be safe all.
P.S._Just got a call from the oncology center while I was writing the above. It is now required that all patients with appointments in the infusion center have a covid test at least 48hrs prior to your appointment. Got one scheduled for 9:30 Friday morning. Oh well, an ounce of prevention beats the hell out of a pound of cure, assuming there is one.
Later all !
Penny Trains I ate at Cracker Barrel! Ohio is coming back!
Well thank God for that! Hopefully everywhere else will follow suit ASAP! What's going on otherwise is just unsustainable. The country's GOT to get back to work!
PS: What did you have Becky? Last time I was at a Cracker Barrel I had the trout with lemon butter sauce. Man, was that good!
Evening folks!
Had a good day. Prepping for the holiday weekend. Food laid in for kids being around much of the time. Benefit of the virus I guess. They trust us (finally!)
Dennis - I am with you. Certain tools I get the 110 volts powered. The replacement batteries for battery tools are expensive and quickly become obsolete. Pita.
Becky - glad you dropped by! I like breakfast at CB. Grocery stores here have been selling a really good CB pancake/waffle/biscuit mix.
MikeC - I personally have enjoyed the sporting events with no fans in the stands. At least we get to see some live competition!
Dougsnotta - guess CA is doing better then here (Texess is still #49 in testing and our governor acts like how good we have it). Only certain folks like front line workers get the fast test - everyone else waits 1-2 weeks...
Fife - keeping the prayers coming for your mother!
SJ - was reading up about the dams that broke - yep - even though the state told the 'operators' the dams were not good long ago, looks like your governor will make sure the state has no responsibility...same here in Texess...
Regards, Roy
Good Evening,
I agree about the power tools, the electrical ones are definetly more reliable and stronger.
Dennis, I have an electric weed whacker, and its been very good. About 3 months ago it ran out of line, so I go to replace it, (it actually has 2 cutting pieces set at 180 deg apart), so after an hour spent rewinding it then started cutting. After about 20 feet, the reel was completely gone! Bought another roll same thing. Obviously I DON'T know how to rewind them. Going to see if I can buy a pre-wound reel. If that doesn't work, will have to see about asking a gardener to give me a hand.
Did a couple of small projects, had 5 loose brick around the wall that encloses the pool pump and filter. They had broken loose from the access gate hitting the wall. Used "Cement Quick" as morter, boy does that stuff setup fast! Barely got a brick set before it was to difficult to work with, it was a bit warm too. Low 80's and direct sun light. But got it! And they are holding very well, can't move them. Then today, got a mat to fit under the worktable in the train room. Had to rearrange things as a result of getting the bar back. The mat provides a better surface for the table movement. (The table sits under the layout, I pull it out for use.)
Going to decorate cars tomorrow, doing a drive by on Saturday for Great Newphew's High School Graduation.
Becky, Glad to see you visiting us, we have a Cracker Barrel about 75 miles from here, we've gon there specifically for dinner a couple of times, and whenever travelling we always stop. BTW, your puzzles are GREAT! I'm sure they are a lot of work!
Haven't seen a lot of detail regarding the dam failures, hope there wasn't many people hurt or homes lost.
I too enjoyed watching the races at Darlington, was a bit of a challenge with all the rain delays. Esp enjoy Boyer in the booth.
Hope you all have a safe Memorial Day, and give a moment for all our heroes gave everything protecting our country!!
Don
Ok, you guys have made me hungry. What I would love to see come to San Diego County:
#1. White Castle
#2. Cracker Barrel
#3. Waffle House.
Damn, I feel the cholesterol levels going crazy just thinking about them.
Well Doug, I AGREE
1. I have a White Castle on my layout,
2. There is a Cracker Barrel in Victorville, and Rialto
3. Waffle House ....... Tucson or Phoenix
I stopped at everyone I saw on my trip!
Don,
Here you go. There are hundreds of similiar dams in Michigan. At the point of failure, the soil has become saturated with water and the granular materials are not interlocking. Shearing resistance lowers and the pressure of the water begins a sloughing off of the saturated portion of the dam. Think of the soil particles changing from jagged rocks to marbles. You can make a pile of jagged rock, but you can't make a pile of marbles.
Forty years ago I was on an inspection team of earthern dams in southern Illinois. This is exactly what we were trying to stop. My job at the time was to help survey the top of the dam to see if there was any settlement and to evaluate the concrete outlet structures. We would use backpacks and hike into some of the remote dams. I was the No. 1 pack mule.

1) White Castle? Not a fan at all, although I suppose it's an aquired taste. Put a boullion cube on a white house roll and you've got a "White Castle."
2) Cracker Barrel? I like the place! Lady Firestorm thought the food a bit too salty, but that's her. As I said earlier, I love their trout!
3) Waffle House? Love it! What's not to love about a place where you have to show a pack of cigarettes to get in?
Well, I must have done a good job on the heavy trash pickup as they took everything. Still have not been able to order phone. Will mow tonight. Love the White Castles. Used to avoid Cracker Barrel until they brought out the 4 piece Southern Fried Chicken meal. Wife and I can split that and still bring something home. Waffle House closed around here and was not good when it was here. Watching a race is fine when there is no other option, but it will never replace actually being there. TV usually shows the leaders but being there lets you follow who you want to see no matter how they are doing. Also TV does not bring the atmosphere to you, as "Little Al" said in 1992, "You just don't know what Indy means....." I hope everyone has a good day.
Hi guys, weather is perfect, NO WIND, warm and sun. So I did everything with 2-4-D. love the smell of that stuff. Hope it kills the clover and other weeds. five 16 gallon loads in the sprayer. Hope I did not hit any of wifey's flowers.
#1. White Castle. Sliders and Beer,, Great stuff!
#2. Cracker Barrel,, Overated, and way too much money,
#3. Waffle House. Glad there are none here, Cokkroaches and waffles is about all I have ever seen served there.
Gloomy and 67 for today. Sun late afternoon.
We have White Castle and Cracker Barrel. No Waffle House, only thing I ever ordered there was Pecan waffle. Last time we stopped at one in Ohio off I-75 it was the filthiest place I ever ate in. Nothing new from Midland. It will be interesting to watch as blame is tossed around.

The Southern Fried Chicken that tastes so much like Roy Rogers. Today we got to eat at Bob Evans! Woohoo! 2 days in a row that I didn't have to cook!

Thanks! They're lots of fun, but I wish I could have found a way to post them the way I originally made them. To expound, (ooohh...fancy word...) I made them up on grid paper in what evolved into an 18 by 18 format. By comparison the ones I've been posting are 35 by 35 with only a minimum of overlap. What I would do is:
But the wordsearch creator program that I found would only include half the words I wanted unless I made the grid larger, and, it wouldn't let me decide word placement either. Neither would it allow me to pack the words as densely as I had drawn out on paper. For example, a short word could be sandwiched between two others on a diagonal line using the first and last letters of the surrounding words which themselves had been spelled backwards. Oh well. It was free software designed for educators so I'm not complaining.
Penny TrainsThe Southern Fried Chicken that tastes so much like Roy Rogers
Cool! I liked the Roy's fried chicken, they used to call it "Pappy Parkers Fried Chicken," I don't know if they still do, but I loved Roy's roast beef sandwiches!
Wish we had a Roy's around here. The nearest one's in La Plata MD, 100 miles north of us.
Evening all
We like cracker Barrel and Golden Corral, The Waffle house we have been to, where basically clean ( never saw any roaches ) but you either had good cooks and food or good customer service, Niether both at the same place. One place I went the waffles where actually about 1/4" thick at the thickes point.
Still building shelves and putting trains up on them.
Hope all have a good weekend
