Evening folks!
Another good day. I enjoyed the discussion of White Castle, Waffle House, and CB.
White Castle - I have never had what I would call a good burger there. A pasty pattie with precisely 5 onion bits imbedded in a perfect pattern. One of my best buds who was from St Louis raved about them and lamented the lack of WCs in Texess. A girl friend of his from college came down to visit and bought him 50 WCs in a big Tupperware bowl. Her seat mate asked what was in the bowl, she answered and he asked to see them. She said when she opened the bowl it stunk the entire plane up!
Cracker Barrel - I like CB but the Mrs is 'meh'. I prefer breakfast and the fried chicken.
Waffle House - love 'em. Reminded me of an ongoing discussion with Spankybird on this forum many many years ago. We had a lot of fun with the love/hate. I was able to visit Spankbird (outside Cleveland) while on a business trip years ago and what do I find at the end of his street - just a dozen housea away - a Waffle House! Boy we had fun with that. He swore he never set foot in the place!
Regards, Roy
Beautiful day out at 68 degrees and sunny. Rain is gone and plants growing. Fed 6 mobile home parks yesterday. I was beat at 6 when I got home. Riding with Wifey to SC line below Charlotte. A plant thingy. All have a great day.

Mornin' boys. Mornin' Penny Trains. A little foggy and 62 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Been a long week, and got longer when I received some personal news (not Mom related). We'll head up mountain to visit her later on today.
Been very busy at the railyard, learning new crafts, clearing brush, and organizing. BIG things a-coming. Yet, no word on running tourists any time soon. Honestly, working has kept me from climbing the walls. However, my sleep is all messed up. Most days I get up after 0300, and just stay up. Woof.
Wifey likes Cracker Barrell. I used to... Youngest Princess prefers Waffle House. I like the little greasy spoon up here on 28.
Warm and if they are right rain and storms on the way. Today's deal was to re-seed the yard and put down a bunch of 27-0-9 fertilizer in hopes to get grass back now that I have zapped the weeds. Now watch it won't rain.
No plans for the weekend due to you know what. Wonder how many will get COVID-19 due to being stupid this weekend? Plenty I bet. But then who cares if it is not ME! Wonder how overblown the families of those lost to COVID-19 think this is?
Be safe out there.
Fife, prayers for your mom.
Update 8:30
WOW at 4:00 we got an inch of rain in less than thirteen minutes. So much for the new grass seed. Everything is washed out and so is about 300 foot of the driveway.

Been going thru boxes, plastic containers and plastic 27GL tubs of trains, trying to decide what I want to keep and want to let go. Boy is there ever a lot I do not need/want to keep. Was suppose to goto a train show back in April in Columbia, S.C. but it got cancled because of this virus :( It has been rescheduled to Oct 10th but we will see with the way things are going.) If I go I will be wearing a mask, trying to stay 6' apart as much as posible and have a mask on, at all times.
Otherwise were doing fine here, mainly shopping where they will bring it out and load it in the truck. I do go into Bi-Lo once in a while, but I do wear a mask when doing so.
My point of view if you don't want to wear a mask, your choice. If you go to a place that requires them you need to wear one, there policy and you can go else wear if you don't want to. They can set the rules to enter there place of business.
End of soap box.
Hope all having a good week end

Been a lazy, hot and humid day. Doing nothing. Sat outside under umbrella table at the Train Box with coffee and a cake. Watched Church on TV.Now fried porkchops, mashed potatoes and butterbeans [seasoned with salty fatback].Will lead Memorial Day service at Veteran's Memorial. New Mayor has not said a word and neither has Town staff [except my former Town Clerk]. We'll see if he attends.Enjoy your week.
RT, I have to agree with you. As for me I will wear a mask out of “respect for others” (a thing of the past these days) even if I think I am not a risk to them. It is just the right thing to do. If you don’t want to wear one,,,STAY home!
May watch some of the 600 later and test out the AC.
Hope all of you have a great holiday weekend and think about those who fought for the freedoms we have and our right to disagree with each other.
It's 84 now and very humid. We too will probably try the AC when we come home this evening. I had to switch out of my flannel.

Interesting your bringing that up.
There's been a round-table discussion among the directors of our toy train club concerning an up-coming show we have scheduled for August 22d. That is, what do we do concerning COVID-19 safety?
My own thoughts went as follows. First, I think (And hope!) all this COVID-19 turmoil will be well and truly over by then. Second, print on the show flyers and ads attendees do so at their own risk. Let show attendees set their own level of risk. They can wear a mask if they want, and it was proposed the club could sell masks at the admission table at cost if anyone wants one.
I also said that in my opinion "Six foot here, six foot there, six-foot-six-foot everywhere!" is unworkable. How do attendees get close to the tables? How can they handle what's for sale? How can they interact with exhibitors? And quite frankly there isn't enough floor space to allow it to begin with.
Cancelling the show isn't an option. Unless the venue owner cancels it (Which is what happened to our March show) the club's out $1500 in the rental fee. Again, not an option. The venue owner canceling isn't a great possibility, it's in a fire house meeting hall. Firefighters and EMT's don't scare that easily.
As I said, I believe the situation will have improved greatly by August. Every flu season in the past has ended with Summer. This should prove no different.
Right now, it's still "Full speed ahead!"
By the way, most of our directors are in the high-risk "geezer group," myself included! We're not scared.

I look at it this way, if they have it, and I decide to go, I will probably stay back the best I can from my tables and talk from there. I will be wearing disposible gloves.
I'm wondering if I can put a sign up if your not wearing a face mask properly please move on from my table.

Staying back from the tables is of course your choice. Putting up a sign is something you should check with the show organizers about.
Disposable gloves? Those were available to us when I was on the job fixing copiers. I tried it once and hated it! I preferred to get dirty and wash my hands afterward. Those rubber gloves were lousy!
The way I look at it is what will be the reaction of your "assumed buyers". The vast majority are like most of us here on this site, well in excess of 60 y.o. and varying degrees of health. As a member of the SDMRRM should it be opened toward the end of June, probably more like July, I don't plan on participating with club events for quite some time. With my health profile, again probbaly like a lot of others on here, I have to be extremely careful with this virus. If I should catch it I would essentially be a "deadman walking". Something else to consider would be the financial position of your target audience, with this "lockdown" having taken the toll on jobs and "spendable income" will they want or be able to spend on toys.
Just my humble opinion, that and a couple of bucks will buy you a beer.

Looks like the 600 is going to be a wash out,,, go figure.
BTW SJ,,, AC is working just fine in the house and the shed!!
DougDG, I would love to have that Beer with you!!!
I love you too, KRM! By the way, I don't expect people to value my opinion any more than anyone elses, or treat me like an all-knowing sage. I put it out, and folks can take it or leave it, doesn't matter to me at all, I have very little ego to bruise.
Quite honestly if I dropped dead tomorrow I could care less, I've had a pretty good run so far, and to quote Shakespeare "We owe God a death."
Or as we said in the Marines "Nobody gets out of this life alive!"
And if anyone out there is calling COVID-19 "The Boomer Remover" you know what? I laugh along with 'em!
And just when did I tell you you have to think like me?
OK, off the soapbox.
Just got me a feral cat, Puss and boots we called her from 83 yards according to the range finder, and got it right through the heart. One less of the many. Darn stupid neighbors need to stop feeding them over breeding bug infested rats. If you can't have them fixed, care for them and have their shots, they are fair game. The way it is HERE! I grew up on a farm, animals are not people and that is that.
Evening all,
Normally I would say good evening, but today is not a normal day. There has not been a normal day in quite a while, but today was especially not normal. Today I would have been up before the sun to get to my daughter's place to meet whoever was going to the race with me. Today I would have been in my parking spot before 9 AM and making the mile + trek to the trek carrying the provisions the race ( most remarkably cold tasteless ham sandwiches ). Today I would have bought a program from a pretty girl and wandered around the area behind the pagoda for awhile before taking our seats. Today manly tears would fall during "Back Home in Indiana" and shouts of joy would emerge from 300,000 throats at the command to start the race. Today Penske would probably win another 500 and AJ 's team would be doing good to get a top ten. Today traffic would be snarled leaving the track, and tonight I would be watching a delayed broadcast of the race. But not today. Not sure if another today will ever come. I hope everyone else has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana

Mike, I used to love it when those NASCAR drivers would do the 500 race and then fly to the 600 and do it to. Maybe next year! Think of all the money you saved today,
Hello there, Busy doin nuttin this week.
Helped son mow and whack the cemetery one day. Mowed our grass too, grandson supposed to whack this week.

Good Evening,
Just sitting here watching the 600, thought would throw a post out. Mike I'm sure THE 500 will be back! It is an institution and a huge piece of American history. When I was a kid in northern Illinois, I listened on the radio every year to that race, and it was a big goal to go there. I finally made it last fall, I WAS AT Indy, and there was a Nascar race, wasn't the eptime of my dream but close. Unfortunately I was disappointed, I entered the backway (apparently), ended up parking in someones back yard. behind the grandstand. Got a ticket for turn 1, entered the facility and the track seemed to be surrounded by low cost housing. I did find the main gate, (from the backside). Got to my seat and the scene was very familiar, the tower, front stretch, and pit area. My seat was under an awning area on the second level. I didn't have any ear protection with me and the sound was HUGE. I was disappointed with the overall track view, minimial racing. Unfortunately I didn't have a radio etc. it was hard to understand who was in the lead etc.. But I was SO happy I went there!!! I know it would have been better if I had a prior experience with the facility. I appreciate your loss today, you probably would have been more frustrated if it would have been open, and YOU had to decide whether it was wise for you to go or not.
Kev, I think you might have had it reversed, Indy 500 was run mid-morning/afternoon. Charlotte 600 is run late-afternoon/night. Its funny, in 1950 the Charlotte race was designed to specifically take advantage of Indy, thats why Charolett is 600 miles, and orginally had 60 cars. Compared to Indy being 500 miles and 33 cars. It worked and both events have lived on successfully! BTW, Kev I'm not being critical, I'm sure you were aware of that.
Train club meets...... In January I was cleaning stuff out and decided to get rid of all the accumulated train magazines. Some as early as '50 and '51. So got them all boxed up and decided I would take to the meet and spread them out on the entry tables, and let people just take them who had an interest. Previously I have taken some to the VA and a couple of Rest Homes, but can't do that anymore. So after the Covid issues, and hauling them around, probably 100 t0 150 lbs, I put them on a shelf in garage. Decided last week to just dump them, so they went in the trash. I've considered taking stuff there to sell, but IMO it just wouldn't be worth it, no real market anymore. Most people that would have ANY interest dont have the means, or are also saturated. When I attend I usually walk thru, look at prices, see all the same stuff I have, and don't buy anything. I thinkmy interest level has dropped also. So I would probably be just as satisfied if I sat a couple tables out in the driveway, put stuff on them, then walked around the tables, have a couple of cups of coffee, throw a couple junk pieces away. Then pack them back up and put them back under the layout. And think about the gas I saved.
I do really enjoy going into the train room and just look, admire, and reminesce. My How Things Have Changed! Most likely I will probably dispose of my collection by donating the less expensive stuff to a train club some day, (if they still exsist). Then offer the other items to family and friends. I've enjoyed them and they have been worth having to me.

Howzabout turning the flames down, boys... Happy Memorial Day. I will head up the mountain later on, to be with my mom. My sister is headed back home today, and depending on how things go with hospice, I may need to take leave from work. We'll see.
Watched the 600 while reclinerizing. Good race, and good nap. Look forward to the Indy-Nascar weekend in July. Would love to see a few cross-over racers in both events. I remember how Earnhardt wanted to adopt Unser, Jr whenever they did IROC.
Remembering those who gave us their all.
Have a safe Memorial Day.
Cloudy but not suppose to rain. 66 degrees and warming. Will have private Memorial Day service early as not to attract too many people. Just participants. Under 25 participant max Gov. rules. Enjoy your day.
Thanks to those who gave their all.
Fife......prayers. I'm not that far away. Let me know if I can help in any way.
May you all have a happy Memorial Day, and thanks to all of our Veterans!
I watched most of the 600 as well. Too bad for Chase, he should of had it.
Fife, Prayers for you and your family as your mom goes through Hospice. Hard times indeed.
No plans unless we want to go to SIL's mom and dad's and expose ourselves to way too many people at once that we don't know. Maybe just stay home and do steaks on the grill. I will let wifey decide.

The next big flu I think it was the Hong Kong flu was under Obama, naturally no media coverage at all. No hysteria no shutdown.
Dennis, The outbreak, which is sometimes called the Hong Kong flu was in 1968, Obama was seven years old. That was the one before Woodstock. It killed an estimated one to four million people globally.
The Asian flu was 1957-1958 eleven years before Woodstock.
I think your thinking of the swine flu, N1H1 of 2009? There is a huge difference in the death rate of the two. 75 for COVI-19 to every 3 for N1H1. N1H1 killed 151,700 – 575,400 from 2009 through 2010. COVID-19 to date has killed 345,442 and counting.
Not close to apples to apples. But your right the midea is nuts on this one, maybe because of all the 24 hour news stations these days.
WOW it is hot, already mid 80s with over 70% humidity and for us from the Mid West it will take some getting used to. All the people from Il are rushing to the beaches in IN,,,go figure!
Hope it will dry enough to get some grass cut.
Kev "Not close to apples to apples. But your right the midea is nuts on this one, maybe because of all the 24 hour news stations these days."
Kev, I think part of the issue is the "Trump Derangement Syndrome" that seems to permeate the media.
KRM. But your right the midea is nuts on this one
Gives them something to talk about besides the antics of the Kardashians and what Meghan and Harry are up to.
I trust our local paper and our local news shows, the quality of the journalism has always been very good since we moved here in 1987. The national press? I'd sooner listen to a pack of chattering rhesus monkeys.
"Wild Bill" O'Reilly (Formerly of Fox News before he disgraced himself with a sexual harassment suit) said something about the national press I never forgot, probably because it made sense.
"The press in New York, Washington and Los Angeles don't write their stories for you, they write them for each other! And when they get together on the weekends in the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard, Wye Mills, and Monterey or Palm Springs they congratulate each other and stroke each others egos about how wise they are compared to mere mortals."
Why is why I don't believe anything unless my locals report it, OR I see it in "Classic Toy Trains!" Or "Trains" or "Classic Trains" for that matter.
PS: One thing that really annoys me about the on-line versions of the national press are the "click-bait" headlines that make you think the story's about one thing but it turns out to be about some thing else. Makes me wonder what impressions are gotten by those who read the headline but don't read the story.
Afternoonn folks!
Thanks & prayers for the vets who gave all for us!
