After a few days of 80's we will be in the 70's for awhile.
The weather finally permited my wife to get the garden planted. Yes I know I could help but she likes doing it and I'm on call if she needs me.

Hola Dudes & Dudettes.
Home from getting root canal, can't eat or drink very well. Definitely wouldn't want to be dining out in public, could get a bit embarassing.
Still no indications as to when the museum will be reopening.
Almost forgot, need to visit the vampires later to make my cardiologist happy for Monday's visit. Hell they already drained some last Tuesday for my oncologist visit. Following up on blood pressure med changes that could hurt my remaining kidney.

Afternoon. Rainy but no rain for a while. Been to morning meeting at Court House. Felt strange. No crowds at security and sat in big conference room social distancing. Chores this afternoon. Later.

Dennis,
I have 3 of the 2-4-2's. They are fun/fast runners and I like the way they careen around the track.
One is "original" #250 (Penny orange stripe) that came with the first set I received at Xmas 1957 or '58. At some point, because I admired the big SP steam loco that used to be displayed in Hermann Park (Houston), I repainted the loco & tender in flat black, painted the boiler front (smokebox door & smoke box) silver, white walled the drivers, and hand lettered the loco cab number and tender with silver paint so it resembled the park loco. Looked good to me!
Anyway - some years back at York I found a #250 loco and tender with a trashed motor and a cracked driver. I swapped the shells and recreated my #250. The cars that came with the set, NH 6464 black boxcar, Gulf Oil tank car, NYC gondola (w/canisters) looked realistic so I left them alone. I repainted the Lionel Lines red plastic SP style caboose flat brown and hand lettered it for SP. I easily found an exact red plastic version that was really nice at York for $3. Now I have my childhood first set complete and occasionally on display or quick run on a floor loop.
Regards, Roy

Nothing to report today. Wet weather. I hope everyone has a good day.
Sun and 84 today. 87 yesterday.
My wife wants to vote by mail this year, I don't trust the count but will abide to her wishes. We are both High Risk for surviving the virus, we do wear mask inside the stores but not outdoors. The weather is finally nice enough to plant the garden.
67 degrees and cloudy. Rain by afternoon so guessers say. May become a tropical system. More rain tomorrow.Worked hard under shelter yesterday. Back was hurting when finished.Safelite coming in a few to redo Chevy windshield.Have a good one.
Flintlock, In the same category as you except I was in the A.F. I was in from 66 to 70 with the bulk of my time at Reese AFB in Lubbock, Tx. During the latter part of my enlistment was when things started winding down. I'll never forget nor will I ever forgive how the returnees were treated coming thru San Francisco. They've earned their current day sidewalk poopers.
Rant over.
Today was labs/oncology/infusion day. Got good news from Dr., ct from last week was fantastic and my required covid-19 came back negative. Covid-19 test was required to have access to the infusion center. Was decided to continue on a monthly basis in place of the bi-weekly visit as things are going well and the Covid crap is still going on.
RT, I'm a Vietnam Era vet myself, and I know exactly where you're coming from. You see, I call myself a "Former Marine," but hesitate calling myself a veteran. To me, the real veterans were the guys who were shot at. I never was. (At least not by an enemy, but that's another story!) Some may disagree, there was one guy who read my self-definition who was a real combat veteran who told me "Don't worry bro, you're a veteran!"
"And combat? Don't worry about that either, you didn't miss a thing!"
RT, you served and suffered for your country. You're a hero. And I thank you!
Flintlock76, Not being a actual Vietnam vet ( one who went over there) but classified as a Vietnam era Vet, I look at it like this, any body who served in a war, conflict, or as they called it a peace keeping mission, ( I was in the first gulf war and I also was at ground zero after they blew up the marine barricks in Bierut, Lebenon ( 23 Oct 1983 ) Nothing I enjoy talking about. I don't know if I go as far as hero, but I sure feel they all need the respect that most of us don't get. I did 17 years before I took a offer to get out early and some cash. I knew something was wrong but I couldn't figure out what they would call it. about 20 years later they started talking about it. It was called PTSD, I rated at 70% but classified at 100%. I can not do large groups by myself. I have to have my wife or someone I really trust with me.
To me a hero ( and we heard of a lot of them, junped on a live hand gernade to save te rest in his group, crawed under live fire from the enemy to drag back a wounded trapped buddy that couldn't make it back, stuff like that. They claimed we were hero's when we came home from the first gulf war, I couldn't see it, as we did what we trained to do.
Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne

Mr. Baker, thank you, thank you for your service in 'Nam!
And for any 'Nam vets that may be out there thank you as well! In my opinion if you went to Vietnam, and did your duty well and truly, you are a hero!
No matter your service or MOS. "All gave some, some gave all."
Good Afternoon!
Mike, I appreciated your comment, and really envy you! I can relate to everything you said, and share your enthusiasim. I couldn't imagine what the ambiance would be like at Indy on race day!! The whole place must be just naturally exciting. Future Indys I will always think that I actually know someone there! Wow! I've benn to a number of the Nascar tracks, and usually have to pinch myself to appreciate being there. I've always gone home and watched the recording though.
Not a whole lot going on here, watching recordings of Nascar, and some documentaries. Did watch the Viet Nam series on yesterday, did bring back lots of memories, etc.. I even went back and looked over old pictures. Remembered many more names than I thought I would. Was a desperate time, but I've never regretted my small role.
Weather sure has been nice going to have to go for a bike ride this evening.
Take care all and be safe!
Don
The hypothesis remains to be explored. What are the effects of GRITS on COVID19?
Don, read your comments on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and your visit and your thoughts on whether I would have had a hard time deciding to attend. In my opinion, wild horses could not keep me from there. I have been to the 500 in all types of weather and other circumstances and nothing would ever prevent me from attending an event. I missed one in 77 and swore never again. I figure I am a "dead man walking" anyway (65, diabetic, overweight and high blood pressure ) so denying myself the one last pleasure in life is not in the cards. I just hope the August event is held with spectators. Chief, your observation about NC sort of confirms my idea on this whole social distancing concept and shutdown. It only delays the inevitable. It does not prevent anything. We could be shutdown 6 months or 6 years or 6 centuries and the result would be the same until we get a vaccine (if we ever do). The question is how much social and economic hardship are we going to endure for what??? Traffic still sparse going to work. Weather warm. I hope everyone has a good day.
NC is in modified phase 2. Suddenly had 700 cases in 24 hours yesterday. DUAH. Should not have gone to phase 2 but too much political pressure. Nut ex-Marine hubby of lady organizing Reopen NC says if it comes to it, he will defend his constitutional rights with valiance as taught in the Marines. Had thick Egos and cooked a big pan of sausage links. Rolled them in maple syrup.Chores and errands [when going in stores, wear my mask].Enjoy the day.
17 days ago, we had snow in the Valley.
Today we may see 90°

I hear you on the "click-bait" thing and if you don't have the ability or time to read past the first line or so you will have no clue.
Well wifey and I took the bait and drove to the SIL's mom and dad's for the cook out.
Had a nice time and good eats at Dan's mom and dad's today. Had been over a year since we have been there. With Sandra's hip problems last year and the COVID thing this year we have not been out to much. 9 adults and 6 kids outside running around on the farm it was easy to social distance. Had a rain thing but it did not last long. Was nice to get away.
Would of liked to visit some graves back in Plainfield but things were shut down.
Afternoonn folks!
Thanks & prayers for the vets who gave all for us!
Lowest key Memorial Day for us ever. Just the son and his GF with us.
Fife - continued prayers for your mother
KRM. But your right the midea is nuts on this one
Gives them something to talk about besides the antics of the Kardashians and what Meghan and Harry are up to.
I trust our local paper and our local news shows, the quality of the journalism has always been very good since we moved here in 1987. The national press? I'd sooner listen to a pack of chattering rhesus monkeys.
"Wild Bill" O'Reilly (Formerly of Fox News before he disgraced himself with a sexual harassment suit) said something about the national press I never forgot, probably because it made sense.
"The press in New York, Washington and Los Angeles don't write their stories for you, they write them for each other! And when they get together on the weekends in the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard, Wye Mills, and Monterey or Palm Springs they congratulate each other and stroke each others egos about how wise they are compared to mere mortals."
Why is why I don't believe anything unless my locals report it, OR I see it in "Classic Toy Trains!" Or "Trains" or "Classic Trains" for that matter.
PS: One thing that really annoys me about the on-line versions of the national press are the "click-bait" headlines that make you think the story's about one thing but it turns out to be about some thing else. Makes me wonder what impressions are gotten by those who read the headline but don't read the story.
Kev "Not close to apples to apples. But your right the midea is nuts on this one, maybe because of all the 24 hour news stations these days."
Kev, I think part of the issue is the "Trump Derangement Syndrome" that seems to permeate the media.
V8Vega The next big flu I think it was the Hong Kong flu was under Obama, naturally no media coverage at all. No hysteria no shutdown.
The next big flu I think it was the Hong Kong flu was under Obama, naturally no media coverage at all. No hysteria no shutdown.
Dennis, The outbreak, which is sometimes called the Hong Kong flu was in 1968, Obama was seven years old. That was the one before Woodstock. It killed an estimated one to four million people globally.
The Asian flu was 1957-1958 eleven years before Woodstock.
I think your thinking of the swine flu, N1H1 of 2009? There is a huge difference in the death rate of the two. 75 for COVI-19 to every 3 for N1H1. N1H1 killed 151,700 – 575,400 from 2009 through 2010. COVID-19 to date has killed 345,442 and counting.

WOW it is hot, already mid 80s with over 70% humidity and for us from the Mid West it will take some getting used to. All the people from Il are rushing to the beaches in IN,,,go figure!
Hope it will dry enough to get some grass cut.
May you all have a happy Memorial Day, and thanks to all of our Veterans!
I watched most of the 600 as well. Too bad for Chase, he should of had it.
Fife, Prayers for you and your family as your mom goes through Hospice. Hard times indeed.
No plans unless we want to go to SIL's mom and dad's and expose ourselves to way too many people at once that we don't know. Maybe just stay home and do steaks on the grill. I will let wifey decide.
Fife......prayers. I'm not that far away. Let me know if I can help in any way.
