A bit of excitement last night here at the "Fortress Flintlock" that led to some repair work today.

Started the oven to make dinner last night and was treated to a "sound and light" show coming through the door's window.  The heating element died in a blaze of arc lighting and hideous squeaks!  Off to the appliance parts shop this morning for a replacement.  Hey, I don't mind.  After fixing copiers fixing the stove was easy!

And to be serious, my condolances on your loss Sir James.  Hopefully this pestilence won't last too much longer.

Good evening all,

Did mow last night.   Used the 21 inch Toro and then the neighbor brought back the old John Deere.  Used it to finish up the yard.  Had not used it for a few years.  Forgotten how good it was.   Kevin, you are correct about their high prices, but "Nothing runs like a Deere".  Bought this mower in 1991 and with the new blade (surprised they still carry it), it did just as good as the Toro.  Wish they still made that model.  Sir James, sorry to hear of your loss.

Can get fast food in town again.  Good thing as I was considering options for the weekend.  With the yard mowed and the book on Chanute finally finished, some serious on the portable layout may get done.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' boys.  Two nights in a row, FifeMax has woke us up for thunderstorms.  It's safe to say that he's the least popular inhabitant of Fifedom right now...

Did finish my tree project, as well as a canal hedgerow.

Been watching "layout tours" on youtube.  As soon as I hear someone continually yapping in the background, I stop the video.  I prefer when folks dub in some music.  TSG Media does a pretty good job.

Sun and 40 this morning. 72 yesterday was warm so we took a walk. Our son the car painter stopped by with two of the so called "better" mask for us to wear when shopping or doctor. That's the only reason for us to leave home at this time. Kev my fear of the virus is the doctors choosing who lives or dies. You know the odds for us old folk.

Kev he really said that? Wow we all know that's the attitude but he's the first I've heard of saying it out loud. Unbelievable.

Kevin I remember that, but that makes as much sense as, wiping your tail then going to the bathroom, if all eldery died you still would have the corona virus.

Morning,

Condolences for your Ex Bil's family SJ!

Not sure what day it was this morning, so I confirmed with Kay it was Friday, she of course said NO! Its Thursday, and anyway the days have NEW names so you can choose one of these..... "Thisday, Thatday, Otherday, Someday, Yesterday, Today and Nextday", so know I'm totally confused.

Then with the Texas scenerio, found this in the paper this morning, regarding the economy.

Government Notice !   To help save the economy, Government will announce next month that the immigration Department will start deporting senior's (instead of illegals) in order to lower Social Security and Medicare costs.

Older people are easier to catch and will not remember how to get back home.  Be sure to send this notice to your relatives and friends, so they'll know what happened to you.  I was really concerned when I thought of you all,  then it dawned on me: I'll see you on the bus. Indifferent

Been cool and rainy all week!  We've gotton 2" of rain, that's a lot for us!  Fortunately, I have the train room, I've been working with tires, trying to come up with some "commonality" for the MTH vs Lionel sizes.  Would be easier if the same criteria was provided by both, (one provides ID and Thickness, the other provides OD and width, of course MTH is mm, Lionel is inches).  So I guess I will just measure each tire size and come up with my own.

Then as a Nascar nut, yesterday there were reruns all day long.  You could see the same guys racing on as many as 3 different tracks at the same time!

Well hopefully this pandemic will end soon!  God Bless and Stay Safe!

A question,,,,On the tire thing.

Part number I do not know , but it's the smaller one they have, and it is a real pain to do as you have to squeeze it between the side of the truck and the actual wheel

Kev,

I beleive the p/n you are looking is 222-208, there are a number of sources on the bay.  You can search using "Lionel 6-8654 tires".  One method I use is place a small piece of fishing line through the new tire, position the tire generally on the wheel.  Then while holding the tire partially in place on the wheel, pull the fishing line (both ends) to expand the tire to position it completely.

Also check this out... http://thetraindoctor.com/traction.shtml

There may be other people on the bus with experience. Cool

I USE A HEAVY DUTY PAPER CLIP AND PUT A SMALL HOOK ON ONE END TO FISH THE TIRE AROUND AND SEAT IT, ONE THING DOING IT THIS WAY YOU CAN MAKE SURE THAT IT IS PROPERLY SEATED WITH NO TWISTS OR HIGH SPOTS.

BRASSEURS IS A GOOD SOURCE FOR SOME OLDER T/T'S.

Good Friday.  Cold and breezy in the Potomac Highlands.  My goal is to check in on my folks today.  Took care of some RR biz yesterday, and stopped by the supermarket.  Mowed the lawn late afternoon, and the rows look tight.  Would like to whack the emerging dandelions, but don't want to burn the lawn.

DougDG, Too good!!!  Yes

Great day here but tomorrow we go back to winter for another week.

Our Granddaughter Madyson and her new show / riding horse. How cool is that? The son at last gave the horse they got for her to her yesterday, Jax. This horse seems to respond best to her. All the others riders have had issue, but Maydson and Jax seem to bond.

She does English riding and has many ribbons and awards. Her and this horse should show well together. We are so proud of her and all the work she does!
