Afternoon Gangsters!

51 at the moment. It was 39 this am! Youz guz up nawth left the refrigerators open again...Wowzers. Front blew thru last night and it was breezy out!

Been working on an inventory of all my trains, etc. This is going to take a while! Using 2 spare bedrooms to move stuff into from the 2 large closets as I log it into an excel spreadsheet. Checking going rates on the Bay of E, Knocking 15% off that and then another reduction for what I will present to the local train buyers to see if they bite. Spreadsheet has manf PNs, description, roadname (if applicable), year manf (if known), 1st value, 2nd value, and notes columns. Sheets in the workbook for Lionel (locos, rolling stk, passenger, accessories, track/power/control, other Lionel (I.e. Boxed Sets), other (general - Weaver, Williams, Crown Model, Marx, etc), and MTH (not a lot so do not need separate sheets for locos, cars, etc.).

Don... there is a guy with the Illinois RR Museum that goes through the whole process of running a steam engine on video.  The sound is not that great, but the explanations and "the how" to are fairly good.

Full sun but only in the low 40s, better than the gray and doom.

Cool videos Fife, He does a nice job!

Chife, I think that 870 . Magazine, holds both 2-3/4" or three 3"  shells and size just changes the capacity. More or less depending on what Tactical model it is. So he may be alright with the 3" shells. Jim next door has one I saw and I like it.

The shelter in place starts later today and people are going nuts? I will let it happen then venture out later in the week and hope for the best. No sign of the boy yet. Bet he could not find any bread or TP. Wink Smile, Wink & Grin

Good Morning All,

Chief, Really impressed with your efforts on distribution of meals!  That is so fantastic! Great job!

Buckeye, those videos are fantastic!  That is without a doubt making memories that will last for generations!  Tremendous!

MIL has been in the hospital for a little over 2 weeks, she was very weak and couldn't get out of bed.  Wnded up taking her to ER, and they determined her magnesium and other levels were way down, and also had fluid on lungs/heart.  So her stay was getting all levels up etc..  Last Thur determened that she could be xferd to "Skilled Nursing Facility", so she was moved yesterday pm.  Of course the restrictions have gone in place and now no visitors are allowed at either the hospital or Nursing facility.  May sound a little gruff, but this is good on many fronts;

- Kay's mom is in the best place she can be, trained people watching out for her 24/7.  She is a good lady, but her mind isn't what it use to be, gets confused very easily with meds, eating and more.

- The isolation will help both Kay and her mom, into some level of seperation.  Kay is over protective, and her Mom takes advantage of it.  Also I think it will be beneficial as the medical staff will make an evaluation and recommendation regarding her living by herself, taking the decision OUT of Kay's hands.  So we will see!

On a bright side, I had an appt with the Eye Clinic at the VA yesterday, I am being treated for "Mackeral Degeneration", requiring an eye injection every month.  Well it has improved so much that no injection required this month, AND next visit scheduled 2 months out!  Not to mention my vision has improved SO much in the past 3 weeks, like comparing analog TV to HD!  So  very excited about that!

Take care all and be careful!

Don

63 and rainy. Temps to drop. 50's tomorrow and rainy. Not out in the rain feeding kids today. Going to FIL's to help Wifey and in-laws clean out "stuff".

Funny. Youngest SIL's son bought a "tactical gun". "It goes ching ching." Sure its an 870. Knows nothing about guns. Guy sold him 3" shells and its a 2 3/4". "Can you get him some tactical shells?" [BTW: He is in his 30's, OH he is the good Nephew]

Big thingy on TV. Kids using internet for schooling. Sorry. Kids down east don't have internet nor cable. Actually, some in rural Wake Co. don't have both. Spectrum says not cost effective to install plant. If not, CenturyLink. About as good a dial up if it works. Horrible. I saw a thing on Next Door about Hues [sp] Net. Said horrible and unreliable. Neighbor at the lake had it. Was expensive and just like satellite TV. Clouds or rain, no service.

Hope all have a great day and stay well and safe.

PS: Big question????? Is hunting and fishing against the "rules"? Trying to feed your families.

Hello: Another warm sunny day here in Orlando. More restrictions, retail hours' cuts and emptying shelves.

The broadcast of the visiting "Millennials' psyche" is a bit troublesome. Here's hoping that they stay healthy and return home safely.

Being "homebound" during this virus event, we've been Spring Cleaning the layout. Where did all that dust come from?

Be safe and take care.

PS   Did I mention "dust"?

Flintlock, I am no better, just ask any of the guys here. Just these are new times and new problems that none of us have encountered or are sure how to deal with even at our old age.

Chief, makes me proud to see you out there for those who need it.  Yes

Things are nuts here in IL, total stay in place starting tomorrow night. The COVID-19 numbers are going off the charts now that there is testing. Already major hospitals in Chicago are out of test kits and can not test those who need it. Right after the Vice POTUS was telling the world there were millions of kits out there? Where? Less air time and more work from the WH could help us all. JMHO

See Firelock, Laugh

The son called and asked if we needed anything and he will bring it tomorrow. All I asked for was bread and TP, he said he can get it there. I told him we have plenty of water if he needs it. Stay safe!

Checking in. Was 85 and the pine trees are exploding with yellow "smoke". Just what we need.

Delivered 50 bags of 4 meals each to one trailer park in town. 98% Hispanic. Had a Panamanian lady helping me [one of our key Human Services employees]. Then 100 hot meals to a trailer park in the middle of no where. 99.9% Hispanic. Go to door with meals. Some would not open the door and could hear kids inside. "Vielka, help!" She would go to the door and speak Spanish and the door would open. Mom would take the food and say thank you in Spanish. Vielka said they were afraid the white guy might have "papers". Sad. Folks have to live in fear. Reward was seeing kids smile and Moms too. All very gracious and said thank you. Lots said, "God bless you." Some kids would not open the door when both parents were working. Been told not to open the door to strangers. Get neighbor to help us. Back Monday and Tuesday.

Now R&R.

I don't pay too much attention to the main-line media anymore, especially the 24-hour news networks, look at the reporters and commentators, nothing but a pack of mindless lemmings all going along with the groupthink.

One of the on-line news sites I like going to is NJ.com, coming from New Jersey as I do I like to keep track of what's going on up there, but lately it's "All coronavirus, ALL the time!"  Jeez, give us a break will you?  We know, we know!

"Paramus Daily Voice" is a lot more restrained, they report on other things besides COVID-19, they don't hammer you with it constantly.

Our local paper, the Richmond "Times-Dispatch," is still very well done, so I trust what they have to say.  They keep editorializing on the editorial page where it belongs.

I used to like Fox News when Shepard Smith did the news hour starting at 7:00PM, but then they moved him to 3:00 PM, did me no good as I was working, and everything in the evening became opinion shows.  Sorry, I can form my own opinions, I don't need anyone elses.

Dopey questions from the pressies don't surprise me anymore.

Buckeye, you brought up an interesting point.

You know, everyone who's been to college since the late 60's knows that "stuff" goes on there, the "What happens at school stays at school!" kind of stuff, especially today's college grad parents who send their own kids off and "Put the blinders on" because they just don't want to know, remembering some of the crazy stuff they  did.

The problem now is there's cameras all over the place, plus more and more social media sites, and once the pics go out there there's no getting them back.  I really feel sorry for today's kids, the old anonymity isn't there anymore.

Not that I'm endorsing irresponsible behavior by any means, but it's natural for young people to kick up their heels, raise hell, and defy convention.  I've done it, others have done it, and for the most part it's harmless fun with no long-term damage.

Hey, I was young once, I haven't forgotten what it's like.

It's just sad, you know what I mean?

Good afternoon all,

Strange times indeed.  Not too sure what to make of all that is going on (or not going on).  Someone commented as to what life will be like if and when we get back to "normal".   Work is going well.  Got an update done with the application.  Going to be cold this weekend.  New sump pump connection works really well.  Much easier to use.  I hoppe everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

I don't know about the rest of you, but I shall sleep better tonight, after reading the publisher's email on the Woo-han.

Why does every business feel the need to tell me how they are dealing with this crisis?  It's tiresome.

My favorite make me feel good emails are from the companies or organizations that I did business with 5-10 years ago.

For those millennials having fun in Florida and not giving a care, companies where you will want to work after graduation will be reviewing your Facebook, WhatsApp, WeChat, QZone, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, etc.  postings. This information was relayed to me by a partner in one of our county's largest accounting firms. Companies are doing in-depth reviews of potential new employees.

Flooded roads are all around us this morning. A ten-foot culvert washed out on a state road.

Today this software is acting up again. Would not let me correct my verbage or spelling manually. I actually did a test on three other train type forums and all of them can handle spell check. Kalmbach should be ashamed.

A question, it looks like you need special paper to print this eBay shipping label?

Dennis, E-bay shipping labels are just fine on regular paper. Just use clear shipping tape to put it on your box. Wink

Fife - AGREED!!!!!

Stopped raining - supposed to get to 70F today but rain and wind later.

Did venture to shop last night, There was 1 roll of paper towels left and I posed with it - I don't need it so I put it back -

NO Beef or Chicken found at the ShopRite we use, and I did check out in the +60 line since there was NO ONE there.  We ran over to a smaller grocer and found the 2 - 1LB packages of ground beef and a package of chicken breasts.

People are crazy, I don't understand this at all.

Hope to get to the Train Attic tomorrow, my sister is going to give us a break and sit with Mom for a while.  Mom is not sleeping well, she is much better otherwise.

Jenni has gotten the green light for closing on the 31st so there was much joy and celebrating yesterday.

Back to work

Doing well here. Daughters pup has bounced back - literally!

Raining here - so strange (really?) - 56 and think it will stay that way for the next couple of days. 80's next week! Lawn/weeds growing like crazy and trees almost leafed out (in a week - always impresses me).

Well the wife and I have NO intention of doing any 6:00 AM senior citizen shopping.  First off, neither one of us are getting up that early since we've retired!  That stuff is past!  Second, neither one of us are going to admit being OLD!  We're not old, we're "well-seasoned!"

At least the gray hair keeps me from getting proofed at the liquor store.

We are at the house 24/7. Everything closed. Those that work are trying to work from home. Walmart is to have a senior citizens shopping hour.

Buckeye, Did you see that it is at 6:00AM and only one day a week? I understand why an houre before they open because they want the store clean, but only one day a week? That is nuts, it will be a mad house of old people. I would think they would do it every day to spread it out? But then again,,,it is Walmart. Laugh My wife has not seen 6:00am since she retired and she is too young to go anyway. Laugh

Good day from the Valley,

fife... Yes, there are some good railroad videos on YouTube. I caught one the other day where they explained the steam pistons on the Big Boy and other articulateds. I also learned about the experimental third piston between the driving wheels. Did not work too well. Very hard to maintain a valve/piston system underneath a boiler.

There are a few videos of how to run a steam locomotive, but they are very unprofessional. If you get a chance watch the WABASH on Train Unlimited. They do a good job.

We are at the house 24/7. Everything closed. Those that work are trying to work from home. Walmart is to have a senior citizens shopping hour.

Beautiful day.  76 and sunny.

They did away with popup.  Thanks Thumbs Up

Latest rumor here is Trump is shutting down country for two weeks.  Using NG and military.  Go stock up.  Told folks may have been started by grocery chain.  Local Food Lion manager says sales up 62% over last year.

Enjoy the day.
