sir james I

Sun and 87 for today. I blame the news media for some of this shooting hype. They add fuel to the fire with mass coverage of these animal attacks.

Morning folks!

Sunny and oddly cool this morn. 90 on tap next several days. Summer!

Banks - prayers answered!

Brent - house looks great!

DJ - late summer blahs?

Anj - sounds like you had a good season anyway!

Back is much better. Fixed a drain pipe yesterday that either kid tried to pull up or an animal tried to dig around. Extended it, excavated, and placed some rocks over it

Good Morning!!

So, I left Central Jersey at 0630 and it was drizzling and then raining (HARD!!) half the trip to work.  I get here and the birds are signing, the locusts are singing and the sun is out.....wtf????

Meeting last night was an hour AT BEST as, again, the hierarchy didn't plan for National Night Out.  I did the FD bills, ran out to eat and went to bed.

Jenni took the opportunity to go to Seaside Heights for a cruise in at Stewarts Root Beer.  She had a great time, but I was sorry I couldn't go.  She said it was bay side and the weather was great.

I won't weigh in on the ploitical debate, it'll get me banned or suspended......But I do agree the media and politico have no clue and throw gasoline on this fire....

80s with SEVERE storms later.  Should clear up by tomorrow.  I have the tickets for Greenburg's Edison, just not sure when we are going.

Mercer County Fireman's Association Meeting tonight.  Should be home by 930.

That's all for now!!

Good Morning,
Been awhile since I posted.  Would you believe with todays technology and such we were without Internet, TV, land line phones (2), for practically a week!!  And then just to make it complete, my cell phone died and took 2 days to get that back.  So I spent a LOT of time listening to the radio, and working on some projects around here.

- We are starting Phase 2 with MIL, Kay has to go there everyday, usually 2 times.  And MIL took a face dive, she really looks bad.  Fortunately no permanent damage.  She NEEDS to be in assisted living, but nothing I can do about it.

- Found out I have Macro Degeneration going on in left eye, (Wet) which is worse than the Dry type, that is the reason for the eye injections.  No cure just try to slow it down.  With the left eye I have a shadow or dark spot in the center, fortunately the right eye neutrializes it.  Also, have a drooping left eye lid, so they want to do surgery on that.  Scheduled for 9/23.

- Chris traded in his Sububaru for a Sion, he wanted to get an automatic instead of the 4 speed, due to constantly driving in traffic.  (Can't blame him.)

Need to get going, got to go see if I can resolve a dripping sink at MIL's ???

Think I need a vacation, going to start planning a road trip, don't know how far I'm going or how long, will see.

Take care all!  And God Bless !

Don

Hi Guys,

We placed the MIL with the FIL at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery today @ 1:00PM.

What a great place that is to see. When it is full there will be more than 400K vets and their wifes there. It has grown so much since we put the FIL there back in 2006. Very well done place.

That is it for me today.

Evening,

Kev, Sorry to hear of your families loss!

Dennis, We had a scheduled power outage by Edison last week, for maintenance by them.  I expected it would be a pain to get all the cable related stuff back up again.  Sure was, Frontier (FIOS) couldn't get anyone out for 3+ days.  So that took out the internet, TV signal, and 2 phone lines.  (1 business, 1personal).  Then the second day my cell phone died.  Ended up being a dead battery, then Frontier had to replace the FIOS box, due to a power surge when the power was turned back on.

Regarding routers, mine has been in place for 6 or 7 years, no problem.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 66 along the Potomac Highlands.  Need to try and fix a bathroom faucett today.

Yesteday was daughter-daddy day, and youngest princess and I took a 3 mile hike through the C&O canal Paw Paw tunnel.  I'm recreating the tunnel on my layout, so it was actually fun and informative to take this trek.  We went to our favorite local Chinese food restaurant to round out our day.

Evening folks!

Good day today. Partly sunny and 89/90. Same on tap tomorrow. Enjoyed the weather.

Fife - that tunnel is for a train or a canal boat?

DJ - yeah - dealing with attic structures is a random thing with builders. I have some strange supports in mine.

Kev - condolences...Angel

Roy - It's actually for the canal.  And I'm modelling same on the new layout.  The canal actually is in Maryland, with the town of Paw Paw, WV across the Potomac. CSX's (nee B&O) Magnolia cut-off emerges from Carothers tunnel, in town.

TGIF!!!

Rained a bit on the way home from work. Meeting was done by 930.  My brother and SIL were up and they stopped by real quick.  It's always good to see them!!

Supposed to be less humid this weekend.  Trenton Thunder game tonight after work, the tickets from the rain out from the 26th of April.  AND it's $2 Pork Roll sandwich night!!!
Edison Train Show tomorrow, paid for my K-Line GG1 TMCC Upgrade ($200!!! plus the $100 GG1 buy) and FINALLY I'm gonna get my 2026 with TMCC.  No fan smoke, no room for the smoke unit.
I have a $150 credit for it, just waiting for the bill/invoice on that, so it is possible that both will come home with me and that will kill the train budget.

Probably need to go through the train attic and sort out what I don't want, like my MTH 0-8-0 Switcher with PS2, MTH Curved Tunnel, some Plasticville and MTH buildings and probably the American Power and Light building.....

80s today and sun......

Let's see what I got.....

High of 81 for today.

Did some shopping this morning and bought gas @ $2.63. Lowest I've seen around here in quite awhile.

Evening all!

Weather today was a repeat of yesterday. Typical summer and enjoying every minute!

Not much to report today. Did not sleep worth a darn last night so a slow day for me. Helped a neighbor hang a TV for his son. Ms and I hit some stores to return stuff, pick up a new laser printer for one that failed, and a few groceries.

Almost napped watching afternoon/evening news. Then cocktails on the deck. Dinner prep in process!

DJ - almost seems a planned pattern - been there - we need to talk - business is down - sorry no big plans/promotions/raises....yada, yada, yada...they say economy is strong and yes it is for some folks, but not overall for everyone...

Good evening from sunny 85°F Southern Ohio,

It has been 8 days since I’ve been on.  I went back and skimmed through and it sounds like biopsys and health in general is on the mend.  Projects like attics train rooms and houses are progressing with the typical hitches of time material quality issues.

I was at off site training for work all week and the nhad to work 10 hours of overtime today.  Bleh!  I received a few more loads of fill and Gabriel have been spreading that on the area next to the garage where eventually we’ll park the camper.

Nothing going on train wise but getting ready to wash down the house and garages to re-stain them.

My bride is doing very well post surgery from the C5 – C6 fusion, but just gets tired quick.  The kids have been pretty good at picking up the slack.

Just got called to dinner; grilled flounder

May God bless you and your families

Jim

Good Evening,

Jim, Glad to hear your wife did so well, prayers for continued progress!

Kev, Hope things are settling down some, espically for your wife!

Had a frustrating day yesterday, good day today.  Yesterday finished up repairing a lavatory sink at MIL's.  Very simple problem, rod that moves stopper up/down broke due to corrosion.  So got a replacement at Lowes, (all plastic), OK.  Ended up with a small leak at sink fitting. So back to Lowes get the whole assembly, only $12.  Read instructions, seemed a 20 minute job, did see where it said use Silicone Caulking to seat the stopper.  "OK" typically used plumbers putty?  Then started the job, 1st prob; the lift rod needed to connect to a plastic section, using a rubber O-Ring to clamp the 2 pieces together.  2nd prob; the perpendicular arm that lifts the stopper is a 2 piece unit with a shroud that is keyed holding them together.  Complete the installation, pull the stopper rod, it comes a part.  Put a hose clamp on the two pieces, THAT problem solved.  Then pulled stopper rod again, the perpendicular portion pulls out of the shroud!  Another hose clamp!  Got the stopper working, now test with water, sink leaks!  After 4-5 hours still leaking.  Time to call plumber! (Totally embarrassed!)  Next morning plumber arrives, looks it over and replies, "You will never get this thing to work".  You bought it at Home Depot or Lowe's right?  Yep, he said they should be taken off the shelf, he said he's bailed out at least 20 guys trying to install them.  So I took it back to Lowes, of course got my measely $12, but talked with the Store Manager.  Showed him the unit clamps, explained problems, etc..  He was very glad I took the time to show him.

Today was good!  Rearranged garage, found lots of room, and stuff I forgot I even had.  Perfect day for it as well.  I think the heat wave we were having has moved on to Texas.
Roy, Good that your in TN.

Talked with John Fullerton yesterday, he is doing well, and has a couple of new great grand children on the way.

Time to move on, so best to all of you!

Relatively slow day here on the North Bluff. Things have calmed down and 6yo grandson spent Thursday and Friday with us.  He got up yesterday with a mission and proclaimed we were going to clean up the down trees on that trail to Jim’s place. It was nice and cool so I said okay. He worked hard and we got it done and also, we did a tree fall in the southeast lawn. He loves to steer the tractor and run the grapple controls and got to do a lot as we made five trips to the burn pile with the trash. Here is the before and after.
Had a short chat with Don, sounds like he is going to have a good road trip.Sounds like my luck with plumbing. Laugh
Jim, glad the wife is doing better!!
Got a guy on the hook to come and buy my 6’ x 12’ cargo trailer today if he shows. These creeps that answer the adds are a joke! Hope it works, would like to get some cash put away if wife is going to need that hip replaced. She gets her colonoscopy on Tuesday. I went in on Thursday morning and they said I was good for five more years.
Best get to it. Have a good one.

Afternoon all!

Well my day was pretty much wasted. We had to replace a printer. Have had great luck and longevity with Brother B&W multi-function laser printers. So bought a new one to replace a 9 yr old one. Weeeeeelllllll - it took 4 hrs to get the Brother PC control S/W installed on 2 Win10 PCs. Brother's old fax/scan/print s/w was a breeze to install (for wireless or USB operation) and worked well. Thier new crud s/w took 4 tries (lock ups, non-response, taking forever to read the CD-ROM, etc.) on one PC and 2 on the other. Had to repeat entire install on each PC to have wireless and USB functionality. Their new access is a decktop icon vs a system tray icon. It takes many steps to set up for PDF (vs JPG default) scans. Argh! Felt like Don with his plumbing travails.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny and 56 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Something tried to pull down the bird feeder overnight, and hopefully our new trail-cam caught it.  Wifey back in Fifedom, as I made a successful raid across the Potomac to free her.  Stopped on the way back at the hamlet of Frederick, and dined on a Chilli's Santa Fe burger.  As Sam Jackson would say,"Hmmm, that's one tasty burger."

Did show the yatchett to a potential buyer yesterday, but she wanted me to spend my money to paint and launch same, and I'm practically giving it away to begin with.  Next...

Hello there,

SJ....I still make my steaks out back in the pasture.

Roy.......don't yards just love it when they  "improve" things

DJ......that probably is Jupiter, I don't remember much astronomy but I thought that was a planet. It moves slightly each night.

Last evening was cool and clear, fall is on the way.

2 nights of the festival down, 1 to go. Busy so far, +/- $370 @.50 a ride. Nephew filled in driving a couple hours last evening while I went to grandaughters twirling recital.

Spent a couple hours yesterday helping son get the combine ready to cut oats. Hasn't been used in 2 years and several knives were off the cutter bar.. We had to modify them because the right ones aren't available.HHe got about 3/4 done before the dew came down.

Best move on

Had good luck yesterday and sold my 6 x12 Cargo trailer for $600.00 more than I had in it. Not bad for one day of detailing. Yes Good to have some money on the side for the upcoming Out-Of-Pocket medical bills. Big Smile
Our daughter bought me an air fryer. Guess I will try it out tonight. The thing looks like a giant egg.
Good one DougDG. Laugh
