Afternoon,

8ntruck, Sounds like you had a good time at the train meet.  Hopefully the sourness will pass fast.

Roy, Congrats on the birthday weekend, I agree with you, California, Texas, Michigan & Chicago can be boring.  Maybe.... Truex and Lagano can make it exciting.

Back to the race.

Morning/afternoon all! Welcome back to standard time!

Been busy as it is the wife's bday weekend. We went to the new A Star is Born yesterday. Good show. Bit choppy so it was good I have seen the previous versions. Then we went out for Italian with neighbors and ended up at their house checking progress on their kitchen rebuild. Everything brand new.

NASCAR this afternoon. Texas Motor speedway, fast open high banked track, so could be a boring race if it follows suit to past races there.

Regards, Roy

Cloudy and chilly here in the middle of flyover country today.

Spent yesterday running out Polar Express layout and a second layout with three loops of track at the local train show.  We were the only two layouts at the show - the HO and N scale layout folks canceled.

As usual, the kids enjoyed making Moe and Joe unload the lumber.  The parents and kids enjoyed my demonstrations of the Satelite launching car, the Minueman boxcar and the 6433 missile launching car.

I did buy the M 10000 streamliner set and a couple of other pieces of rolling stock.

Tweaked my back yesterday too, what with all of the standing and bending over the tables and carrying things out to the car during set up and tear down.  Moving carefully today.

All for now.

Northwoods Flyer - I didn't use primer, and I wasn't even thinking there might be some barrier on the tin.  I use Krylon brand spray paint, and employ multiple light coverings.  As to running/parking a train through the shed portion, I'm not sure.  Perhaps ore ginnies would look right.  I'm going to load up my floor areas with materials you would find at a forge mill.

Perhaps if someone starts a Sunday Photo Fun (remember them?) I will try to throw a pic of the finished product.

Gee you know, you always could Smile, Wink & Grin

Morning all.

My buildings like fife is talking about will be in Tueday supposedly.

No other train news and just waiting on the closing of the house now ( a couple of inspections also. ) Then we will be owners of a second house. Of coarse this one will get dolled up some and then put on the market for sale.

Morning All!

Up bright(?) and early since my internal clock didn't know the clocks went back. Looks to be a mix of weather today.

Enjoyed the Michigan - PSU football game yesterday! Sorry Brent/Joe!

Those tin buildings you guys are talking about look neat. I like the ranch house even though it looks more like a feed mill. It looks like you could almost run a train through the drive shed(?) at the back, like some of the Menards buildings.

Roy - Great video for that Make-A-Wish boy. Well done TW Trainworx and BNSF!

Don - Nice story about the Vets. I sometimes wonder if the youngin's don't really get it, but then you see a story like that.

Have a good one and prayers.

Good evening all,

Watched Arsenal and Liverpool tie today.  Mulched leaves in the yard.  Did some more clean up around the house.  I hope everyone has a good day.

RT,

I liked the general store too, but I already have a building that looks like it that is a one of kind tinplate building.

Roy,

Yes the water tower , and the windmill that I didn't purchase, are both part of the Ashland line.  The windmill uses the same kind of construction for the tower.  I think the size is pretty good to go with O gauge tinplate.  BTW, it was great chatting with you at York.

fife,

I think we need to see some photos of this process. Are you priming the building first? Is there any coating on the building that has to be removed?

I think this bulding has a lot of possibility for multiple uses.  I happened to purchase mine in the store and when I checked out I got a coupon for 50% off one full price item.  I think the Christmas items in the store are on sale (40% off) through today and if they go back to full price I may have to go back and look a little closer at the other offerings.

Suppose to be sunny but we got 37 degrees and cloudy.

Brent you new house looks great but I gotta ask why did you spend all those years of work AND PAIN just to walk way? Yes I know improvements mean a higher sale value but still in your case, well you know...lol

Gonna be a football day. Only good thing I can think of about fall.

Northwoods Flyer - That's the structure I have.  I liked the rusty sheen of the window sashes, thin smokestack, and the shed braces, so I masked them to start off with.  After oxide red dried, masked over the walls and floors, and painted roof and chimney black.  Then I applied earth tone artist chalks to the entire structure, as I wanted to tone it down (youngest priness wanted to add her touch, too).  If I was operating a pure tinplate layout, I would have skipped the weathering.  I would like to add wax or parchment paper to the interior of the windows.  Since the back will face a hillside (I plan on using the whole structure as an access point to hidden track), I might snip out a hole to allow for access to the interior.

Spent most of the day today loading the Polar Express layout pieces parts into out van and truck and setting it up for tomorrow's local train show/swap meet.

While I'm setting things up, my attention was called to a UP M10000 train - a locomotive, two passenger cars and the rear car.  They are in reasonable condition, but cars have sag in their chassis, and there is some variation in paint color from car to car.  I'm trying to decide if I should buy them tomorrow or not.

These things are supposed to need 72" curves - the largest curves I have are 60", which I don't get to set up very often.

I've still got to set up a couple more loops of track on a second layout for the show tomorrow, so off to bed.

Evening all!

Busy day today.

DonB - nice day!

Kev - seems you are getting very serious on the new JD!

Northwoods Greg, Fife, and RT - looking forward to how the painted Ashland structures come out. Greg thanks for the photo that shows the scale. Is the water tower part of their offerings also? I did not see it when I found the link at MichaelsKids.

Brent 88 - glad you are able to start thinking more about the new house vs the ones youve been repairing!

Good Evening,

Congrats RJ on the house, looks like you will have a busy time the next couple of months getting ready for the move!

I had a very interesting and thought provoking day!  I had an appointment at the VA hospital today, I was waiting for an appointment in the waiting area.  And a young man and his daughter walked up to me, each was carrying a bundle of envelopes.  The young walked up to me and said "Sir, I would like to thank you for your service", and handed me an envelope.  I thanked her, and as she walked away I opened the envelope.  It contained a hand made greeting card with an American Flag, and a stick drawn soldier.  And repeated the compliment, and signed by Jenifer.  The card was really cute, and done in crayons.  Also, inside was a new $1 bill!  I was overwhelmed.  As I departed the building I passed on the envelope & card, (with a $5 bill) to a veteran looking down on his luck outside of the building.  Then, on the way home I stopped at Lowe's, as I have a handicapped placard, I looked in that area.  Boy was I surprised, there were 2 signs put up that read "Reserved for Veterans"  "Thank you for your service".  All in all it made me so proud, and I felt like a celebrity.  As I was checking out, I asked the clerk how they verify Veterans are using the space.  She replied "Oh, they put them up!"  And as far as she knows its on the honor system.  Can you beat that?  Both these things on the same day!

Just had to share this.

Good afternoon,

Cold and gloom, winter taking hold. Payday yesterday so bills were on the menu. Wife had a doc apt for her breast scan. So we held off till today to do the shoping @ Krogers. Had lunch at Wendy's, boy did that suck! Ick! The place used to be good?

Did about 15 sweeper loads of leaves yesterday when wife was gone so i am caught up on the leaves for now. Fire is still burning today. They were kinda of damp so a nice slow smokey burn.

Check out these MX series machines by Cub. A lot in the standard package for the money but they are bigger than I want. At Big R they are more than a $1,000.00 less than shown here. Not a bad deal.

This is what I am looking at, only 50" wide. The XL with locking Diff would do me fine.

Floor outlets can be nice but they never end up where you need them. JMHO.

Best get to it.

88 floor outlets are ok. Make sure to get the ones that are flush to the floor even with a cord connected and capable of supporting foot traffic when not in use. These are commercial grade and may not be available at most places.  Good luck with the build.

88 I have one phone jack in the house which is thru the cable company. I also have internet thru them and I use my computer line ( without any problems and computer doesn't need to be on 24 x 7 ) and have magicjack with a second phone number. For about $40 a year with the 911 access fee I actually prefer that phone. I only have the other one because to get the TV & internet discount had to have it thru the cable company. Just a thought and I have I use a base with 4 phones. You probably could do two phones thru them for like maybe $80 a year instead of a month. And it actually has many features with it

Call Features

911, automtic call screening, call blocking, call forwarding, pinless conference, voice mail on/off/delay, voice mail via email, and caller ID name

I know they also offer a business phone service also.

88 - In a great room floor plan, in-floor electrical outlets would be practical.  I would want a design that would allow for concealment from time to time.  Would really free things up for a Christmas tree/layout as a centerpiece.

Mornin' Fellas

Just woke up from reading about Fife's workload yesterday!

Carpet guy due to arrive any minute to try and stretch the hallway and Master Bedroom carpets. Hope it goes well and we don't end up needing to replace it!

Met with the security lady regarding prewiring the new house. Apparently everyone feels cordless phones are the way to go and giving up in-wall phone jacks... so what are they plugging their cordless phone base into? I am going with two, one in the home office and one in the master bedroom. I will use jack splitters so we can have a phone base and corded phone in the master bedroom, and a phone base and corded phone in the home office. Rest of the house will be serviced by cordless phones. Also having a very hard time figuring out the furniture layout in the new office... looking at the office from the front of the house there will be french doors off the main hallway on the right wall, a large window on the front wall, and a doorway to a garage on the front of the left wall. I was thinking of having the desk face the window, with the lateral file next to it on the right, and the credenza with hutch behind the desk... only problem there is my desktop tower will be 'exposed' to the left of the lateral file. I could turn the desk facing the french doors, with the lateral file to the left and the credenza behind the desk, the desktop tower would be to the left of the desk and 'protected' from foot traffic, problem here is the window glare... of course it depends on the window coverings... I am leaning toward the second configuration.

What are you guys' thoughts on in-floor outlets? The security lady and the builder are recommending them in the home office and great room floors... my concern here is if we do that, won't we be 'restricted' with furniture layout?

Hello there,

Predicted rain didn't show. After a few showers yesterday was warm with minimal clouds. Didn't get to take advantage 'cause Mom stuff was more than I thought. More of that today.

The trees that aren't bare are starting to turn. The colors are darker than normal. Just not the usual fall splendor.

Hopefully it will be dry enough to start gathering leaves tomorrow.

Altoona train show Sunday.     Fife. .....doors open at 9am if you can squeeze it in.

Best get on with the day.

Prayers for those in need

Happy All Saints Day!!

Halloween was a success at my house but a bummer at the parents.  Spent time at both........The kids had 2 LARGE bags of candy and it was gone by 8:30, Mom sat out until 9 and we have 1.5 bags left.  Traffic on my street with the kids was heavier than normal.  Weather was great and 60F at 8PM.   Kids had the fire pit on the front lawn and they dressed up as the White Witch and the Pastor (he was warning the kids not to go near the White Witch....lol).  Not as elaborate as past years, but nice and effective.  Good crowd of kids.

I wore my NJ Devils Jersey, since I work near Philly and I didn't get killed, so that was a success as well.....

Sunny today, up to 71F.  Rain and storms tomorrow until Saturday.  Clearing up for the Toy Run in Philly on Sunday looks like this is 60 for the high and 40 for the low.

RT - Good Luck on the house!

DonB - I use my old laptop for a base for LED TV......good luck on the in-laws.

SJ - Hope everything goes well.

Roy - Good luck on the next project - definitely like a fun factory down there!

Light day today, the day after the end of month usually is.  My monthly evaluation came back as all 100s so I'm pretty happy about that.
