Hi there,
Well after 9 hours yesterday without,, we now have power back.
Lost power at 5:00am from the big storm that wasn't. Maybe 3" of very wet snow but very high winds. We lost a bunch of trees, One right across the drive. Shoved it out of the way with the tractor figured it could lay there till better weather today. If there is something good,, The gen set worked very well. We never lost heat or water, could cook and could at least watch TV and now it is running on fresh gas.
Today it is 18 heading to 24 but full sun so a good time to clean up that down tree that fell on the lane in the storm. At least get it broken down so I can push it out of the way. The way it is now UPS or the LP guy could not get into the place. I also found 4 more trees that fell but those are on the trails in the woods and will have to wait for better days.
So I best get at it.

Mornin' boys. Blustery and cold in the Potomac Highlands. Spent yesterday at the railyard, prepping light strands for the train. Ain't heading down there today. Unless they need me... Setting up our new Christmas tree.
Nice visit from the oldest princess and the grandsons. 7 year old wanted a loop of track on the carpet, so I set him up with the Hogwarts/NPC engine, and an assortment of army cars. Even broke out the Mendard's operating tank on flat I'd been saving for him. 1 year old was facinated with the train room, and Wifey really isn't hurrying to wipe his hand prints off the windows. The whole fam rode the train Sunday to see me.
I'm staying frosty. I want --->
Mornin team!
Sunny and 60 today. 30's right now and lotsa frost on roofs. Big change in weather, will hit low 70's a couple of days vs low 60's.
Progress on the plumbing. Got new pipe soldered in for the pex reroute through the attic. Put a temp connection to original pipe under foundation using SharkBites so we have hot water in the master bath. Work today on installing the pex through the attic and down the walls.
RT - there are trains growing in your closets! Hope the closing happens as you predict.
8n - yes - tiny coal for Christmas would be a good thing! We also ran older peripherals with old PCs until they shot craps. Wife and I both office(d) at home so we have a lot of stuff.
Regards, Roy
Morning all. Not many post yesterday I see. Hope all are doing well. Well the saga with the house continues but end is in site just not sure if it is Thursday as planned, Friday or even Monday. It all has to do with the Title search Lawyer as last week decided to take a extended weekend, They took Wednesday all the thru Sunday, I know Thursday was turkey day and expected Friday but Wednesday all kinda surprised me. Finally got all the trains together. I have at present a cubby hole as I call it 3' x 3' x 8' that is above the closet. ( we have 10' ceilings in this house. ) I had that slammed full. if I could of squeezed another boxcar in it, I don't know where LOL. Hope all have a good day.

Good evening all,
Quiet day at work. Lousy weather for walk outside. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Bright sunshine today, but a temperature in the mid 20's. Dog and I took a walk, but it wasn't a long one.
Yesterday's snow fell on warm ground, so there was a layer fo slush underneatee, Froze overnight. Luckely, the sunshine today prevented it from sticking too well to the sidewalks. Spent a time with a flat shovel scraping it off before it gets really stuck.
UPS tracking says my order form Charles Ro is scheduled for delivery Wednesday. We'll see....
Haven't heard any shipping information on the coal loader I sniped on Ebay last week. Got the loader and a bag of coal for $25. Now I'll have to come up with a dump car to go with the loader.
Just had a thought - Coal for Christmas used to be a threat. A lot of us would probably welcome a bag of coal for Christmas.
All for now.
Afternoon. 61 and cloudy. Morning meeting. War zone in house. Wifey decorating for Christmas.
Have a good one.
Good weather today. Mulched leaves again. Chopped down all the honey suckle I could find (only plant still with green leaves). Did some online shopping today. Getting the list whittled down. I hope everyone has a good day.
Who has the snow cannon pointeted west? it's really started to come down around here Weather guessers say we are due for 1" to 3", with 6" to 8" in Kansas City.
Looks like the printer won't need to go to the repair shop. I plugged it into one of our older laptops that is running Windows 7. Downloaded the proper driver, and all is well - almost. While I was trying to print one of the quad maps, something tripped the printer into ASCII (or something) mode - instead of mpas, it started spitting out pages full of goblitygook. Took a hard reset to get it back to normal.
I'll try the flatbed scanner with that computer tonight.
We were going to a Celtic Thunder concert this evening. Got canceled, as the group was in Denver last night - the snow cannon messed their travel up too. At least we found out that the concert was canceled before we started on the 2 hour drive to the city.
About all for now.
Morning. Sunny and 53 now. Sunday School. A book introduction this afternoon. 10 year old girl in Rolesville wrote and illustrated it. Now published.
Have a good week ahead.
Morning all!
Cloudy, 50's as predicted. Looks like 50's for the upcoming week.
Makin progress on the plumbing albeit slow progress.
8n - like you I probably spend too much time resurecting old computer h/w and peripherals...I had to recycle several laptops and desktops due to inability to upgrade them.
Good day to get some Christmas shopping done. Stores were not that crowded. I hope everyone has a good day.
Yup - that warehouse footage is frightening. It is also a good demonstration of the buckling mode of failure. Those shelves must have been loaded at or near capacity for a slight tweak to take them down.
Nice warm day today. Enjoyed a nice long walk with the dog. The rest of the day wend downhill with technology issues. Our printer ran out of ink, so I bought morn ($80!), installed it, then fired the printer up - got a set of flashing lights which were not covered by the on line troubleshooting guide. Guess I'll have to take it to the computer repair place Monday.
Fired up one of the laptops only to have the screen go wonkey. This appears to depend on the angle of the screen/keyboard hinge - another item to go to the computer shop on Monday.
I also tried to ressurect an old flatbed scanner we've had for a long time. Turns out that the manufacturer did not bother to write a set of drivers for Windows 10. Now, we've got a perfectly good scanner that is apparrently obsoleted by software.
I finally found out how to download quad topo maps from the USGS sight. Can't print them with the printer being busted, though.
Started packing some of my train collection yesterday. Looking at the pile of orange boxes, I had the idle thought that I had a reasonable stock for a small hobby shop train department, or a swap meet table. Amazing what what we accumulate in this hobby over the years.

Raining. Hunted yesterday.
Roy, thought you had house fixed. You are famous in Rolesville. Your problem is the reason we are not allowing slabs in Rolesville.
Have a good.
Rob, yes I am using SharkBite stuff/pex. I plan to use the stainless steel crimp bands vs the push on. Still have to add sweat fittings for the pex crimps to the copper. Plus some of the copper is not perfectly round (and corroded) for the push ons. Forgot to post earlier the guy helping me get the pex down at HD had an 'incident' - https://youtu.be/uCdResMwZDo
Morning All!
I hope you all are enjoying the Thanksgiving weekend. High 30s and rainy here right now.
Got my pot of chili simmering to ready for the big Michigan - Ohio State game at noon. Go Blue!! Heading to my brother-in-laws for a big tailgate party to watch the game.
We're likely going to get the decorations out and set up tomorrow. I'm trying to decide how I want to do the tree layout this year since I have the CP Holiday Train now along with The Polar Express.
I've been interested in the 3D printing as well. Our local library has a "tech" room the public can use that includes a 3D printer, laser cutter and some other machines. I thought it would be handy to replicate some of my missing locomotive detail parts I can't source from MTH.
Kev - I feel your frustration. The higher ups recently decide to "upgrade" us all to Office 365 and One Drive at work and it's been a PITA for sure. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!
Roy - I think I'll be applying "the Force" as well over the next 4-5 weeks!! Just saw your plumbing post. From personal use as well as selling them, have you looked at Shark Bite fittings? They are easy to use, won't leak and you don't need a plumber! They are slick.
Have a good one and prayers.
Rob
Mornin folks!
To hit 75 today and front tonight takes us back to 50's tomorrow.
Started work on the pipe reroute myself. Figure I will go until the point I have to have a plumber. I hate soldering plumbing....especially old copper...I contributed to the $4B spent yesterday on black Fri...$200 in plumbing parts....flo, flo, flo!
Kev - Dude, that's cold! - agree about MS and their support. Hope you get it resolved!
Fife - yes, ground force increased across the country yesterday!
The FORCE must be strong with me...
Good evening,
Thanksgiving went good all but for having to put up with a Microsoft support idiot in the morning that just passed me off again. TODAY,,,,What a screwed up day and BTW Microsoft SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the people at Microsoft told me I closed my MS account and that is why I lost Office. I said if I did it is news to me. All I did was try to comply with their request to up-date my password, add a Pin number and I changed the e-mail account at the same time.........That was "two" years ago and all have been working good till 3 days ago. In short they think I am some scum ball trying to get them to give me Office for free.
So even with my proof of purchase, the card and key number pictures as well as my old e-mail address they still have to send it to God I guess before they will give me what I paid for already.
So the guy gave me a two month free trial of what I already paid for while it runs through the BS red tape. I told him if I got $10.00 an hour for my time on the phone with them on this I could of bought it twice already with the amount of "MY" time they wasted. I downloaded Libre to get by and for free it works just fine. I even like it better than Office 2016.
And now check this out Roy,,, Tue & Wed next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tue 17 for a high and 12 for the low, then Wed 16 for the high and 5 for the low!!!!!!!

Cloudy, gray, breezy, and headed to 70 today, 77 tomorrow, and a cold front Sat night.Had a fun day yesterday with the family on the wife's side at our niece's house near Denton TX. Good crowd, including a college buddy of a nephew. The young man is from Croatia, and turned 21 yesterday, so we had a bday cake in addition to pies I made (apple and pumpkin) - burp! Our nephew is a pitcher for his college team and blew us away with all the science they are applying to pitching. He is currently 205 lbs and needs to get to 210 so he can benefit from more 'ground force'. One of the relatives replied, so I haven't been getting fat, I am gaining more 'ground force'!
Quiet day at sister's today. Traffic on the road was heavy. I hope everyone has a good day.
Quiet Thanksgiving this year. Just my wife, me and the dog. Walked a little more than 3 miles with the dog this morning, then put the 1/2 turkey in the oven. Ought to be done soon.
Doug notta - the 20 acres we got is near Bowling Green, just out of town on the northwest side.
Roy - The engineering department I worked got a 3D printer a couple of years before I retired.
All 3D printers work by deopsiting thin layers of material. The resulting surface, if vertical is realitively smooth. However as the slope of the surface decreases, so does the quality of the surface finish because the width of the 'steps' gets longer. To get a 'class A' finish, some finishing operations will need to be done on the completed print.
Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgivings Day all
Hello there,
wanted to wish everyone Happy Thanksgiving while I have a chance. Glad to have you all as friends.
Thanksgiving prep continued today. Kids and grandkids all due here tomorrow evening.
. Mrs and I watched GRUMPY OLD MEN this evening. We saw more of ourselves than we did in '93.
Brrrrr somebody up north left the door open.. Predicted hi in the low 20s tomorrow.
Kev......I've been using https://www.openoffice.org
at home the last couple of years. Pretty much the same as Word the shortcut keys vary but all there. I did have a problem with some of my more complex formulas when converted to their spreadsheet.
Time to sleep.
Prayers for those in need t

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
