Afternoon all!
Cloudy, windy today.
Taking it easy afte all the projects the past 2 weeks. Got a lot of lagging home maint issues resolved in addition to the window.
Watching football and NASCAR this afternoon.
Regards, Roy
Banks Kev, what's shotgun season weekend? There are a couple high population areas of PA where you can only use bow or buckshot for deer.

Banks we have many ways to hunt deer in IL but most of the season is archrey. Firearm seasons are Shotgun and muzzle loader. No rifle season in IL. But the slugs you can get for shotguns are just about as bad as any rifle.
Here is the rundown from the DNR page.

Check these out, they are BAD!!

LOTS O RAIN here. Looks like it is almost to you east coast guys soon. A huge coverage of rain.
Good news for the deer this shotgun season weekend. Bad news for the cat that needs to go out to take care of his business.
Evening all!
Another great day in the 60's. Got the final paint touch up on the windows completed. They are done! (Only 4 more to do, but that is for the spring/summer).
Banks - nice not working, can catch up on long overdue home projects, like windows!!!
MIke C - hope you get that extended Christmas break! Thanks for the review on "Muder...". The wife and I plan to see it next week.
Phish - good deal on the garage completion
Good evening all,
A busier day than expected at work. Did learn a project that was supposed to go "live" on January 2nd may be pushed back, which means I may be able to take an extended Christmas break. That would be nice. Watched Jane the Virgin and Blue Bloods tonight. Both were good. Hope to finish Christmas shopping tomorrow. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Jim a little bit of 2 cycle oil mixed with the gas will also keep the carb clean if you don't want to drain off the fuel.

Hello there,
out of habit...TGIF. Starting to get used to not working.
Where is everyone today?
Phish....good deal on the garage.
Kev....if the venison is dry it's over cooked. Nothing better than deer chops sautéed in butter and garlic. YUMMMM!!.
Spent this week doing overdue maintenance on a Gravely and installing the leaf sucker. Got started on that before the rain the other day. Then emptyed the camper, winterized it and put it back under fhe carport.
Spent most of today at the office doing stuff supposedly already done.
Then PT. Now waiting my turn at the chiropractic office..Next is home for supper and a glass of wine.
Best move on .
Prayers for those in need
Good early Morning from 37°F Southern Ohio,
On the last midnight for this week. If this temperature holds I won’t need to scrape the windows on the car. It has been nice to have some daylight hours at home as 12 hour dayshifts have me leaving before dawn and getting home after dark.
It was two months ago today the contractors started the garage and as promised it is done. They actually finished it a week early. It is nice. They did a good job.
We now live on 6 acres in town and our property is adjacent to continuous woods so we have lots of deer running around too. There are several bedding areas and lots of deer trails. There are 5 or 6 bucks that routinely hang around and too many does to keep track of. From our dining table we can eat and watch deer. Maybe as we settle in next year we may bow hunt here as we like venison.
SJ – If you use a fuel stabilizer the remaining fuel will not cause any problems with the seals or gumming up.
Roy – sounds like you had quite a project there.
Kev – In the 40 years at the plant a good bit of the time has been doing shift rotation. I’ve been fortunate as I’ve always been able to quickly readjust my sleep wake internal clock, but the first transition day is getting harder to feel “normal”.
Doug – peanut butter and banana and toast is what I’ll make when it’s just me to tend to.
It’s time to start shutting down the building and closing up for the weekend.
May God bless
Jim
Very busy day at work. Weather good enough for walk. Wife and I went to see "Murder on the Orient Express". The reviews have not been kind, but we thought it was pretty good. Very good acting and the train is not bad either. I hope everyone has a good day.
A beautiful day today, sunny, 60's.
Finally got the windows completed. Whew. Glad that is done! Just some minor touch up needed.
Mike C - you are right about that! Each window required 14-16 pieces, each custom cut - no two precisely alike in length or width (like 1/16 - 1/8 - 1/4 variations to each board to make things fit). The original windows were done similarly. Argh! Could have been due to tolerances of the original dimensional lumber, but no way to make the new stuff fit without following suit. I have a huge pile of sawdust...
Kev - re the deer, my wife would applaud you - I on the other hand like venison . Obviously I only have it at other folks (hunter friends) houses and when she is not present.
SJ - I'll try to send some sunshine your way!
Good morning,
34 heading to 43. Windy and leaves everywhere, Got to do them later today if they dry.
Pleated woodpecker is raiding the trees out front today, Boy he is BIG.
Wife has a DR at 10:40, otherwise not much.
Mike, Thanks, but I don't hunt the deer on our land, but many of the neighbors and the SIL do. I am not much of a fan of venison, too dry. I know they have to be thined out but I would just as well watch them as shoot them.
Another gloomy day with a high in the low 40s.
I guess it's time to de-gas the mower and trimmer. I just let them run till they stop, that leaves a tad of gas in the carb.
S.J.
Busy day back at work. Roy, your project time line sounds like some of mine. Longer than anticipated. Kevin, I hope you get that buck. Got mostly all of it done. Lots of rain. No walk outside today. Wife's phone has been giving her fits. Kept getting messages saying her text box was full. Called tech support. No help there. Finally looked at some settings on phone. Inbox was empty. Outbox was another story. 500 messages. I asked if she needed any. She said no, so bye bye. Problem solved. Go figure. You would think tech support might have asked that question.......hmmm. I hope everyone has a good day.
Cloudy most of the day and breezy. Not that pleasant but ok. Warm up and then another front for the weekend.
Well, beat myself to death and came close on the window rebuilds. Just 3 external trim pieces left. Then final paint. I pre painted everything prior to installing so final will be quick. Caulking everything takes time also. I have been through 7 or 8 tubes of caulk. Will be glad when this is over...
Dennis - agree on this login garbage. I like the Apple thumbprint lock on my iPhone 5s. It will be some time before I make it to an iPhone with the facial recognition. The wife and I tend to take the kids old phones when they upgrade. Kids have iPhone 7s and I keep using one until it craps out.
Kev - that's a good game for little ones! The buck is big because he is smart. He was taunting you!
Yesterday as I pulled into the drive and right by neighbor Brian's shed was THE BIG BOY 10+ points and perfect rack and monster sized animal. He is here!!!
I stopped the truck and he just stared me down standing in the field just in front of the woods.
Ordered our grave marker today so that is done and then I ordered a vintage Cootie game off E-bay for the grand-kids. That should be fun!
Dennis, I thought AOL was gone.
Jim, I hated 2nd shift but could handle 3rd. My brother did swing shift for 20 years, that can kill you.
Aloha. Rainy but a tad warmer. The bride went out to see a movie with GFs last night so the youngest and I enjoyed a bachelor evening of eating peanut butter toast for dinner in front of the TV. MikeC, I've kept your articles that have appeared over the years - so many clever ideas to end up with 'cheap classics!'
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Morning. Nothing on agenda this AM for a change. 45 degrees and sunny [for a change].
Hope all OK.

Good Evening from 32°F Southern Ohio,
On night #2 of nightshift. Slept like a log today. Got to bed by 8am didn’t wake till 2:30pm. That is more sleep than I normally get when I work dayshift!
I did get to load test the Emergency power hook-up I installed and all works as expected. Now get the instructions with the breaker identifications written up so that I am not the only one who can go to back up power if needed. Hopefully we’ll never need to use the generator or the instructions. This evening my bride and I went to the High school sports banquet then I came into work.
Roy – Mantles are usually easy to make, especially using off the shelf molding and mounting to flat walls. The contours make this one challenging.
Need to go check on the crew putting on a lock out tag out on some equipment.
Good night and may God bless
Greeting all,
Particularily busy with work as of late. I get so much more done when on my own, now that the boss has gone to L.A. for the winter. The hours just melt away.
Hit a train show last Sunday and snagged a few bargains. 2 Atlas PRR GP7's ( one power, one dummy ) came home with me, but they're 2 rail. They should make fun conversion projects. Also got 4 Weaver flats with trailers which I converted to Kadee's, something I'm slowly doing to most of my scale rolling stock.
Just came down from adding a bit more catenary to the layout, and am now postioned to tear up the last section of layout for rebuilding. Before that next step I tested finicky TMCC equipment under the cat, with the wire tied into the house ground circuit. No more weak signal and flickering headlites! The goal with the next section rebuild is to broaden an O72 curve while making an S curve more shallow. It will require shifting the roadbed about 6-8". Things like ridged scale GG1's don't work well under bare minimum specs. Might stay home tomorrow and get started on it.
Best wishes to all and prayers for those in need. A pillow calls.
Bruce
Thank you all for the compliments! Spent the day mulching leaves. Mowed the entire yard hopefully for the last time. Still have the oak and the "hard" maple left to shed leaves. Will have to wait a couple of weeks for them. Weather was sunny and comfortable today. Back to work tomorrow. The Trainfest was most interesting Sunday. Saw somebody selling downloadable plans to print cardstock buildings that were quite realistic looking. There were even ways to print layers of parts so you could add depth to window and door frames. Talked to people from Lionel, MTH and Woodland Scenics. Lots of layouts there. Some of the craftmanship was amazing. Lots of dealers as well. Wife was a trooper and seemed to enjoy it as much as me. Did not write much Sunday as I was using her laptop. I hope everyone has a good day.
Another beaut of a day in the mid-50's.
Well, failed to complete the window project, but a friend asked for some help this afternoon so I got diverted. Should finish tomorrow.
Mike C - cool...hope your articles get published soon!
Phish - good deal on the garage and good luck with the mantle project. Hope my wife does not get wind of this...our mantle needs help!
Morning all,
Kevin cats are a lot smarter than most give them credit for. Our cats watch TV a lot of the time.
Not a lot going on here. Just a stop by to say hi. Take care all talk to you all later.

Morning from a sunny North Bluff.
Strange but true,,,,,,,We have a pair of red foxes here mating up for the winter and I have seen both and wifey has seen one when the cat George alerted us to it on the trail behind the house. Anyway, last night PBS had a nature show all about Red Foxes, and the darn cat sat on the coffee table for an hour and watched the whole show. That is just nuts. Go figure?
Mornin' boys. Mostly cloudy and 43 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Lots to do. Need to break the inertia and get these trains running in the train room. Lumber is waiting to finish the return loop as well. Need to visit folks either today or tomorrow. Wifey wants to start putting up Christmas before she heads to Baltimore for the new grandson's arrival.
cheapclassics - Kudos to you sir. Always enjoy and learn from your articles.
Roy - Work ethic. There's a few on hand like that. Having a pension doesn't hurt either...
anjdevil - Ouch. I've been dealing with a pinched nerve this past year.
Photo shoot at CTT went really well. People at Kalmbach very professional. May have sold a couple more articles as well. Weather was good for return trip. Trip home had some road construction but went very well compared to this summer's ventures. Glad to be home. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good Evening from a cool 41°F Southern Ohio,
I had a great but busy weekend that went by way too fast. Finished up the wiring in the new garage with the emergency generator hookup. I went to Rural King and bought a few of the LED shop lights and they are really nice. Lots of light good color and can be linked to another light, all for $25.
Next project a mantle over the fireplace in the living room. Toughest part will be matching against the profile of the creek rock wall the mantle will mount on. I’ll have as much time in the pattern as in the rest of the project. Bride wants it done before Christmas. Should be do-able, we’ll see.
Another decent day. Mid-50's continue.
Got the repaired windows back today. But not in time to reinstall one of them (The easy one was a Pella that the sash snaps into the frame). The window next to the one I had repaired also has a rotten sill & bunk. So got that complete window out of the frame (takes a while - had to pull over 50 nails out of 11 boards). Hopefully I will get both of them completed tomorrow. The arrangement is identical to the adjacent window.
Anj - hope the back feels better soon!
Fife - uhh, how did this place exist before you????
Dougnotta - glad the meds are working as predicted.
DougM - well the cowgirls did not fare any better either.
RT - good luck with the flooring.
Mike C - a buddy of mine has said if he could only attend one show, it would be TrainFest.
Banks - glad you are home safely!
Thanksgiving cometh!
Happy Monday...... Dougnotta - glad you're on the mend - My Dad is on those meds, He is having a rough patch as well, but it's better than the alternative..
Good Job, Fifer......
My NJ Devils continue to impress, beat the Hawks 7 to 5 in their building....
Rough night last night, was getting things together for the Christmas layout and pull my back out when I stood up - go figure....no, there was nothing in my hands.....
So Ramping up for the Holidays - already - Thanksgiving is a 10 days out.....
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
Aloha. Not as cold today after a wet and cold weekend. Both 'my' teams (ND and the Bears) lost big. The leaves are still mostly on the trees - I'm running out of fall to get rid of them. Praying for the meds to work themselves out, Doug! Banks and MikeC, your trips sounded nice. Can't wait to watch your video, SJ. Safe travels to Joe - glad your finger is mended.
