Good evening all,
Quiet day at work, but busy. Drizzly weather for walk. Thanks for the update on the Dennis situation. Jeep problem sounds irritating at best. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Evening all. We faired a lot better than a lot did. Prayers for them. We had a power surge which fried the cable box out at the road, Fried the connection at the house, the cable from the road to the house, The telephone box on the side of the house ( it's my phone and internet in that box. ) arked from the inlet across to outlet of the gas meter. Everything except one set of phones inside the house ended up being okay.
The only thing we don't have back at present is The TV cable as they need to replace the cable from the box to the house. Oh yeah also the line that went to the garage so I had my one outlet and two lights also got fried.

Spent the day on the Jeep. No problems found but we know what ain't broke. The starter removal is not hard theoretically but the time and effort it took to break the two bell housing bolts loose took almost 2 hours (hey at my age I do not rush). Keeping in mind the starter was assembled onto the engine out of the car those bolts sqwacked the first time I got them to move. Due to limited space, I could only get a 6 or 8" breaker bar on the socket/starter bolts. Wished I could have gotten my 12" or 18" bar on them. The only time I injured myself was with the stupid Jack stands when one slipped as I pulled it up to the frame and slammed a couple of fingers ( and this was the safety equipment).Anyhoo - it is all back together. I tested the starter, bendix, and solenoid. It is solid. The mounting surfaces of the starter to the bell housing are clean and have good electrical contact. I ohmed the wire from the fuse/relay panel to the wire on the solenoid and it is fine. Rigged up a little test setup and tested all the 'run' relays (there are 5 including the starter solenoid relay). Tested all the relays at their minimum guaranteed pull-in voltage of 8 vdc. All tested good and made good contact on the relay terminals. Son arrived in time to witness all the testing and then reassemble everything (he did that part - I watched!).So we know what is not broken. In all a pleasant afternoon in the garage. Next step is some testing on the battery - although the dealer said they did that. Will also do some testing on ground continuity tomorrow.
Regards, Roy

Thanks KEV.
I have already done most of the checks referenced in the Wrangler thread(s). I also have 2 relays on order. I am going to dissect one and turn it into a 'jumper' to act as a bypass to the ECM controlling the normal relay. This will allow us to pull the existing relay and use the 'jumper relay' to plug into the same plug (momentarily) to see if it will start if the dead mode reappears.
Dougnotta - prayers for the CT results!
Good morning Guys and Gals,
CT biopsy went well yesterday. Maybe it was the drugs that were in my IV bag. Was admitted about 8am and was on the way home about 1:30pm, two hours in recovery before being turned loose. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, other than the CT room being colder than you know what. Now it's just waiting for the results.
Last Thursday night had a very bad night got absolutely no sleep so going to the museum Friday was out of the question. Might as well look on the bright side, don't need to pack anything for Friday its already done.
Gettin' really tired, time to sign off.
for all our friends in need.
Later gator !
P.S._The BetterHalf talked to her B-I-L yesterday and his condo in Port Charlotte had no damage, water or wind, and didn't lose power. A couple who didn't have the ability to evacuate told him that they watched TV the whole time Irma was playing havoc everywhere else. It might be a bit difficult to go back until they get the gas and grocery things squared away.

Morning, I got my LAB results back and I will be getting a talking to next week. Guess I will have to chill.
Light mist of rain left over from Irma here this morning.
Roy, Check all grounds!! Butch has a Nitro that did the same it was a ground post that held about 4 wires and grounded several systems. It would not start or let you put it in gear. Also check all grounds and connections to the PDC (power distribution center) behind the battery.
Also, check this out. ignition actuator pin problem.

Morning all!
Sunny and high 80's today. Humidity rising.
Pulled Jeep into the garage to stay out of the sun and cool off. Should have enough room to work on it there. Located a rebuilt starter at Autozone for $89. New ones are well over $200. Plan to pull the old one off and test the solenoid, bendix, and battery contacts. Then clean up where it mounts and check the grounding to the bell housing. Unfortunately this is a "science project" since we nor the dealer have been able to find what is intermittently failing. Will just keep changing certain parts and then see what fixes it. Also have a way to "jump" the starter solenoid directly to see if that will start it if it repeats the "starter dead mode". I can do this at a fraction of the cost at the dealer. They wanted $185 to remove the starter and bench test it. Another $185 labor plus parts to check and add an auxiliary ground cable from starter to the frame. Interesting they mention they have done that before?
Banks, hope the potential sale of the business does not negatively impact you?
Doug M - stay dry!
Mike C - ooof - your soccer girls loss was painful...
Dennis - sometimes when one changes the router and even though you set the password up to match what you had originally, you may need to check the "security" settings for the encryption used by the router and your wireless devices. This is the WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc. Many new routers no longer use WEP as it is an older weaker protocol. Chose the stronger WPA2 and I recall it may force you to create a longer password (if you did not already have that). If you change the encryption setting make sure you also change that on your other devices.
The other thing you can try is to open the settings on your tablet and delete/remove the current wireless network name (SSID) etc you are using and then readd it from scratch. This is a good way to do it on any wireless device.
Aloha. Rainy morning - just as I was walking to work. It gave me a chance to scope out the places to walk that are covered - not as many as when I walked through the Loop! MikeC, i think the Chief meant he was referring to Dennis facing the remnants of Irma. Dennis, you are getting the most out of your router - when they go bad, it is far easier to replace them. Prayers for Bank's job

Busy this morning at work. Quiet this afternoon. Boss's wife has a colon infection and he is spending half days at hospital with her. Chief Eagles, are you saying Dennis is not doing well? Roy, I hope your Jeep issues are fixed soon. Not a good night for the soccer teams. "My" soccer girls were spared a complete beating as the opposition coach called off the scoring at the end of the first half being up 9-0. "My" soccer boys got a 2-2 draw so they will not lose any game. The junior high lost 4-1. Weather was soggy today. I hope everyone has a good day.
Hello there,
hope RT is doing OK.
Thanks for all the prayers for friends son. He was moved to a rehab hospital. No feelings below the waist but he is alive and doing well for the injuries he had.
Boss isn't doing well. I've heard several options but nothing sure. I'm pretty sure we are going to be bought by a competitor. Boss' son has asked me to get all the guys to a meeting Thursday PM. Probably learn whats going on then.
Best get to sleep.
Prayers for those in need

Evening all.
Clouds kept it from warming beyond 82/83 today. Irma clouds here.
Dennis - i swear the wireless router industry has built in a 2-3 yr timer that kills a unit. Never had one make it beyond 3 yrs and the newer ones (So far) barely make it beyond 2 years, so be prepared.
Ray - glad your sister is ok and prayers for a safe return home for her.
Kev - sorry about your former business partner.
Got the Jeep back this afternoon. Got them to show me a couple of things in the shop so we can better troubleshoot it next time it craps out. They showed me where i can pull a relay in the fuse/control box where I can jump 12 volts to the starter solenoid. Personally I think this is where the problem might be (control relay that is powered from the ECM). And we got the locking pin (had to break it out) for the solenoid/ignition wire plug out so I can pull the wire off the solenoid and drop the starter out. Guess what I will be doing tomorrow...
Safe trip Brent. That is what PopPop's are for. Spoil them and give them back to Mom and Dad.
Ray, hope Sister gets back to her facility OK.
Just checked official rain gauge outside. 2 tents of an inch of rain. Weather guessers have said 1.5 to 2 inches. I'll take 2 tenths.

Good afternoon all, Got some information about my sister in Florida this morning. She lives in an assisted living place in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was evacuated by the National Guard to another facility somewhere North of her. They are sleeping on cots but have power and A/C. Don't know when she will be able to go back to her home or if it was damaged.

Thanks for all the support fellas! Leave for Dallas in the AM... last night TheQ asked if I still remembered how to dress for work since I've not been in an office since Nov 2015. Really?Kids are looking forward to me being gone because PopPop gets to come over and spend the night tomorrow. TheQ has a late meeting and not sure she will be home in time to get Matthew, so she asked PopPop to come over and spend the day with Matthew and get Christina off the bus. Christina told TheQ not to come home early so she could have fun with PopPop... lol

Afternoon all. Misty rain here. About it.
With Brent's history of accidents, surprise he did not cut off one leg and arm.
Hope all are OK. Hope RT gets power soon. Will checkon Dennis soon. He was OK last night. Had a biggie at hospital this AM.
Prayers for FL and Texas.
Rifle buddy in north CA says he has rain to help with fires.
Later.
PS: Roy I have a Jeep I'll sell you.
Morning guys,
Hope RT gets power soon and has no high water problems.
Bummer here. My old friend and business partner in the large truck junk yard Russ, passed away last night. Torn aorta. They worked on him for a while but he had 4 major heart attacks on the table. He never woke up. He was my age 65. We were close till I sold my part of the yard in the late 90s. He did not like the deal and shunned me ever since. It ain't worth it to hold on to stuff like that. Get over it and move on. We had been friends since I was around 14 or 15.
You never know.
Went and got my blood draw for Dr. apt next week.
Doug, it is very dry here also.
Have a good one.
A nice day with mid/high 80's on tap.
RT is without power due to the storm.
Jeep dealer cannot find anything wrong with the starter/starter systems. Of course it started right up for them yesterday.
Brent -
Aloha. Another beautiful day - supposed to warm up to 80s by the weekend. We may get a minor 'swipe' of rain from the remnants of Irma on Wed. night. Actually, we could use the moisture. It's been a dry month. Glad that tree didn't get ya, Brent. I am always extremely careful cutting down branches.
Well said, anjdevil2, well said. Very quiet day at work. Good walk. I hope everyone has a good day.

lion88roar KRM Brent, After years of felling hundreds of trees, a 50'+ oak will still make me pucker up at break away. No doubt! As soon as it started to break away I stepped back @ 10 feet and watched it with everything that could cross crossed! I was just happy it didn't hit the shed, house, or the kids (who thankfully listened and stayed by the screened porch (and they moved back toward the sunroom when it started to fall - as instructed).I went upstairs to tell TheQ that it was down and this was her response:I know... I heard it. I waited a few seconds to see if you or the kids called for me. When that didn't happen, I waited a few minutes to go look to see if you were under it.

Ah so wife has as much faith in you getting hurt as we do.
Aloha. Beauty of a day - just like 16 years ago. Praying for those in the hurricane's path. I am puzzling over what might be wrong with that jeep...
Cloudy good morning. Not suppsoe to get a lot of rain here. Concerned for the mountains. They can flood if it rains a lot. All runs down to the valleys.
Prayers for those in the hurricane path and where it has been. Also those from Harvey's destruction.
Hope RT doesn't get too much rain.
Good morning.
55 here heading to mid 70s, The leaves are really starting to turn. Won't be long and it will be sweep and burn season.
Same kind of clear cool 9/11 day it was 16 years ago.
Roy, I will never have another Chrysler product again. There service sucks. The daughter's MIL has a new jeep that shuts off at stop signs and stuff to save gas. When she pulls into a driveway and it shuts off it won't start back up. It is 3 months old. I told her to read the manual.
Neighbor Brain has a RAM 3500 that ate the right front tire off in 20K, Took it to three dealers to find one that could even look at it because it is so big they did not have a rack to pick it up and they said nothing was wrong. He replaced the tire and it has 5K on it and has real bad wear already. Get Out of Dodge!
Now the hard part for all those who were in the hurricane paths. The clean up! And Jose is on the move.
Train Daddy glad you faired good so far. I'm in S.C. and we are suppose to only get like 30 40 MPH winds and gust up to 60 MPH so nothing like what you have had to deal with. I have been thru a few big Hurricanes my self. Take care and may prayers be sent for all of you down there.
