Hello all

JimS - that's interesting on the pump. We often use electric pumps at the tanks of the Corvairs as a boost to help from vapor locking.

Kev - the 623 looks to have the 3 mounts which I guess would make it a later addition. This one has obviously been used, but is all there w/ no apparent major damage (the way I like 'em:). Thinking about putting an ERR sound card in it just for fun. That Williams is a nice engine, glad to hear it's got some use!

Sad news indeed with the announcement that Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is shutting down forever.  The animal rights people have protested the treatment of elephants on the show for a long time.  I have heard that the elephants were treated well so take your pick on who you want to believe.  Anyway, the show dropped the elephant act and attendance dropped like a rock.  A  deceased friend of mine was a member of the famous Wallenda High Wire Troup at one time and he and I attended the Ringling show many times together.  We were given the red carpet treatment in the circus "backyard" which is what they call backstage.  The Wallenda name was our ticket.  We visited with some of the performers that he knew including the High Wire Act.  We also knew a guy who worked on the circus train.  He invited us to lunch on the "Pie Car" once in Anaheim.  I became steeped in circus history thanks to my departed friend.  I will sorely miss the circus. It along with vaudeville, the big band era and a lot of other good things are no longer with us.  A very sad day.

Good afternoon from overcast 58°F Southern Ohio,

The basketball team had a great game last night winning 46-30.  Gabriel did good, had 6 pts and 10 rebounds and several assists; coach pulled the starters after the 3rd period when the score was 44-17.  I didn’t get to work on the truck any, but I have figured where I want to get the power to the pump from as it needs to be energized only in the start or run mode.  After work I have a class to teach so it may be Wednesday before I get to work on it again.

Bob – On stock LB7 diesel motors the fuel is sucked from the fuel tank by the fuel pump mounted on the motor.  This pulls a vacuum on the ½” fuel lines from the tank to the pump.  The lift pump is an inline pump between the tank and the factory pump that pressurizes the supply lines to 4-6 psi instead of a vacuum.  This helps keep air out of the fuel.  The lift ump is mounted to an additional 2 micron fuel filter for cleaner fuel going to the injectors in an effort to increase the lifespan of the failure prone LB7 injectors due to contaminated fuel.  In higher performance settings i.e. > 450 hp, the motor can starve for fuel under full throttle, and the additional pump prevents fuel starvation especially when additional filtration is used.

Mitch – The spring clips hold the panels together and completes the accessory circuit which is the yellow wire under the panel.  On the 600 there are no switches, or a whistle so you can get by without completing the accessory circuit.  In this case I’ve used the small black paper binder clips from underneath and fold the “wings” up so it will lay flat, to hold the panels together.  The yellow wire does not affect running the train.

May God bless

Jim

Good morning,

Cold and wet is the forecast here. Had thunderstorms in January last night around midnight and it rained hard.  Lightning thunderstorms in January???  Huh?

I think I will pursue a second level first other than an operating system. I can do it a little at a time. Problem with remote systems is the same as with any of that kind of stuff. As soon as you buy it, it is obsolete. Not to mention you got to buy trains it will run.

Bob, does your 623 have the ten connections to the handrail or the three? I think you will like it. Wish I had one and the 623 don't have that darn bell. Smile, Wink & Grin Pullmors are a good motor.

The Williams unit was boxed up not long ago for a rest for the first time since it got here to allow somnething else to do some work. Tks! Wink

Hello all

Back at work for another week. We got about 8" of new snow over the weekend. Fighting the remains of a cold I managed to pick up last week.

JimS - what exactly does a 'lift pump' do?

Found a place in WA state that sells some pretty good carb kits for older stuff. We keep having issues w/ the carb on the '38 Yellow Coach. We are going to take it to 'Dillinger Days' downtown on Saturday, so on Friday I will be spending some quality time w/ it.

On the train front, I found a good deal on a Lionel 623 (not that I was really looking:). I've always liked the look of these engines. I picked up a new Williams unit a few years ago that looked very similar to one they had in the Tucson UP yard until recently. It was a nice unit, but near scale size and it dwarfed all my O-27 stuff. I sent it on to points east where it can stretch it legs. This one is in SF markings which seems to be my brand. Will be the first Pullmor motor I've tinkered w/ so it should be interesting.

The end of an era w/ the circus closing. Trains did an interesting article about their train a few years back.

Good morning to all,

It's another gray and gloomy day in Gettysburg. Yesterday we went to Frederick, MD for a birthday celebration with my son and his girlfriend. We ate at Black Hog BBQ. I had Carolina style chopped pork with vinegar based sauce and brisket. Both were excellent.

I've been playing with my AF All Aboard Pioneer 600 set that I set up on the dining room table a few days ago. Realized I'm missing a roof for the porch of the two story house. Found one online and I will order soon. I know I'd bought track locks at York a while back, but could not find them. Will have to search the train room when it warms up.

Gotta get ready to go to PT for my shoulder so I'll sign off.

Take care,

Mitch

Good evening all,

Wife and I used some of a gift card tonight at Wings and Rings.  Neither of us was too terribly hungry so we split a meal and still was comfortably full.  Plus the burgers were $3 off!   Worked some more on some stamps that I had not accounted for and searched for local dealers.  I will contact them tomorrow and send lists to them for appraisals.   Hopefully some dollars will head my way.   Went thru more items of my parents and eliminated some stuff and sorted where other items can go.  Lots of rain here today.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening all!

60's today and sunny. Changed tomorrow and Wed from 60's to 50's and some rain. 70 by end of the week.

Worked on projects and cleaning up today.

Sad. Feld announced yesterday that they are closing Ringling Bros Circus after 146 years. Attendance was already in decline and got worse after they ceased the elephant performances. The head of Feld was interviewed in front of their Ringling branded classic passenger cars.

SJ - nice video! Is that a Williams or MTH scale 44 tonner?

Good evening all,

Did 8 miles in 1:52:58 for a 4.247 MPH average.  Not quite as fast as the 6 mile run last week, but plenty good enough.  Next week I may go for 10 miles.  Finished up toting up the value of the stamps.  If I get 20% of the price book value, I will be in good shape.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Evening all!

Raining and headed east. 63 now and 60's for next week. A bit warm for this time of year.

Oh well. At least Cowboys played a good game. Came back from stupid penalties and some bad coaching in the first half. Next year?

SJ - glad the meet and show went well.

Good morning from a cold Ohio!  As we say, the cold keeps the riff-raft from NC out of the state. Whistling I haven't seen any lately, so it must be working.

That is because we can't get there due to all those Ohio Yankees moving to Rolesville to escape the cold. Angry

We are being over run by Yankees.  Converting them fast though.  Don't think there will be any left up North soon.

Sunny and 55 degrees [suppose to be cloudy but guessers got it wrong again].

Waiting on Wifey to go to Harbor Freight.  She wants the free AA batteries.  Had planned on doing some things in the Train Box.  Also run my new CP Lionel with some neat new Legacy options.  Have only run it one time in the two weeks I've had it.

Go Cowboys.

Have a great week ahead.

NOW: have I told you lately what I think of this software?  Angry

Good morning,

The ice finally melted off in front of shed and sidewalks yesterday.. It is so nice to have the darn ice gone and you can walk without the fear of landing on your bottom.

Taking the outside decorations was easy Jim, I never put any up.  Laugh No one would see them but the deer anyway. Wink Those are great looking shelves!

25 heading to 35 cloudy and no plans

Hope Roy's Cowboys give it to GB today. Yes

Good Morning from overcast 34°F Southern Ohio,

This weekend I'm off duty so I'll be in my home parish with my family.  After Church going to study the instructions for the lift pump wiring harness for the truck and maybe get it installed.  It is too wet to doing anything in the yard unless you like mud.  Maybe Gabriel and I will play with his RC mud truck!

Mitch – If you can see the track the wind up Marx had 2 rails.

Buckeye – The Hallmark series ornaments are really neat.  My youngest daughter has been giving me one of the Trucks since they began.  This was the 22nd year!

I still have a few of the shelves up in Gabriel's room which was the train room.  They did turn out well.  Thank you for the compliment.  I kept all the materials for when I get another train room.

May God bless

I follow a couple of the ore boats on the Great Lakes via Facebook. Yesterday, a video was posted of the Coast Guard cutting the ice to free one of the big boats.  Unbelievable how ice can stop an ore boat. https://www.instagram.com/p/BPRIp-3Ag0O/

We are still working on dismantling Christmas decorations.  I believe there are at least 20 plastic tubs stacked up in the basement with Mrs. Buckeye's decorations. I have one tub with the Hallmark Lionel Train ornaments.  Each of the Grandson's get a new ornament each year for Christmas.  It is a nice tradition.  When they were born, I gave them each a gold Hudson.

The train show is in town.  I don't have time to go this year.  Sad

Jim....I've been taking a second look at old photos of your glass shelving.  I'm impressed.  At article in CTT should be in the works.  Thumbs Up

Good evening all,

Spent the day doing various odd jobs.  Finished up totalling some stamps my mom had kept.  May not be worth much, but I wanted an accurate count before trying to sell them.  If I get 30% of what they are worth, I will be happy.   I was going thru some stuff of my folks and found some old pictures of when I was a kid.  There are 2 pictures of me with a Marx set, late 1950s.  It was a Union Pacific set with one freight car.  Set is long gone obviously, but I wonder if it was electric or battery or windup....Strange the things you find.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good evening all, had a day of rest from going to see Helen.  I was there yesterday. My son Gary volunteered to go today.  I used the time to check on my layout.  Did some track cleaning and found that everything still works despite months of sitting idle.  Biggest problem is that the traction tires on several engines are falling apart from inactivity.  Have to make up an order for a new supply of traction tires and try to get them locally if possible.  If not send away to MTH.  I tried that Bullfrog snot once without much sucess.  What I had left hardened up on me in the bottle.  I tried revitalizing it by adding a few drops of water.  Don't know if that works or not.  The stuff is $25 for a small bottle.  Don, I hope you have a successful trip back to the windy city again.  If anybody can figure it out, it's you.  Anyway good luck and a safe trip.

Afternoon/evening all!

46, damp, cloudy. Predicted 68 tomorrow and rain. We'll see.

Replaced a broken kitchen disposal switch. That required a trip to Lowes and since Harbor Freight is next door, well I had to drop in. Big sale weekend but all I picked up were some small 18 bin parts boxes to accommodate my expanding stock of small machine screws, rivets, etc.

Had a long call from Don B this afternoon. I had it on my list to give him a call so he beat me to it. If was a fun call and good to catch up. It had been quite a while.

Mitch - good to hear from you!

Lee - fun layout plan!

SJ - hope the meet is fun!

Kev - Cowboys - we can hope. I think we beat the Pack the last time we met.

Good Evening from wet 38°F Southern Ohio,

I installed a lift pump on the pre-filter on my "03 Dmax truck.  I'll wire it up after Church tomorrow.  It went in pretty slick.

The youngest's swim meet went well; their team won the meet with the highest points.  The ice never materialize but it has rained almost all day.

Mitch – The All Aboard panels on eBay are going high.  I lucked out on the hill and tunnel with a buy it now.  I'll just keep my eyes open and maybe a crossover will turn up.  If anyone sees one, I'm interested!

Don – Have a good trip.  Hope it's not messed up too bad.

Lee – The drop down layout sounds neat.  Are you taking pictures?

Good Night and may God bless

Good day,

Prayers for you guys up north with all the cold weather. I went through it all growing up in Stratford CT for about 10 years. Speaking of Stratford CT I got my photo in the Carpenter Reporter(Carpenter Steel's monthly magazine, I think the year was 1969).

Around 78 today and not supposed to go below 65 overnight. Next week we warm up some more to around 82 for the daytime high with overnight near 66 degrees. Not that much rain right now either.

Waiting for a friend(thinks he has a cold or something) of mine to come over and help me finish the wall layout board for my H.O. train layout. Going to be a fold down sheet of plywood( 4 feet wide by 6 feet long) with legs that fold to hold it to the floor.

Good Morning All!

Things looking up out here, sun is out, sky is clear, air is so clean it hurts to breathe.  Everything is still wet and soggy, heard that 42% of the state is out of the drought condition.  Now only if we could end the "political drought", don't see that happening any time soon.  Had to drain almost 2" of water from the pool.  A little brisk out but nice.

Kay is home!  Everything with her parents seems under control, so she made it home last night.  Great having her here, let her sleep in this morning.

Looks like I'm headed for Chicago, not too much of a surprise.  Very impressed with Dennis from Z-Stuff, talk about customer service!  Talked with him a couple of times yesterday, he indicated that the wiring is messed up.  He saw what I did, and didn't understand why things are miswired.  What I did was when the wiring under the layout stretched between the various modules, I cut the wire, (one at a time.)  Then using 2 terminal strips, marked both of them with a designation, ie. TS1.  Then colored one of the connection points on the TS to identify pin 1.  Then colored the underside of the strip to further identify TS1.  Then connected both ends of the cut wire to the 2 terminal strips.  So all that was necessary was to either put a jumper between the terminal strips OR disconnect one and reconnect to the mating Terminal Strip.  Identified on the bottom of the layout each terminal strip designation, AND provide a layout drawing showing the location of each terminal strip.  Seemed straight forward and simple.  Even explained it all when it was delivered.  Dennis told me it looks as if the wires from the Terminal Strips was NOT mated up correctly and also were probably twisted 180 deg and connected.  So who really knows.  He said the wire size and colors were not matching when reconnected.  So who knows what I will find.

Hopefully will leave tomorrow, so I can be on site Monday am, and get back ASAP.  Not looking forward to this adventure.  But, if I can get in get it straightened out it will be worth it.

Really appreciate all the concern about the family issues, Thanks everyone!  I'm not upset about the trip, getting paid for it.  But sorry that the customer has had such an ordeal, feel sorry for her.  Maybe I will be lucky and won't have too much trouble untangling it all.

So today, Kay and I are going a Train Show in Orange County!  She wants to go!  So I said I will take her.Smile, Wink & Grin

Take care all

Don

Good morning.

The world is still a sheet of ice. Day 4 now. 28 and not to get over 31 so much for a melt. No sun.

Got to venture out to Walmart for meds but not much going on.

I added another insinuated track section to the kids loop so the crossing gate will fall before the train is over the roadway and ran trains some last night. Got two NEW Lionel O42R O27 profile switches comming today to keep as back up stock.

Been staying in and heating as much as I can with wood.

Roy, I hope your Cowboys bash the Pack on Sunday. Yes

Overcast from the storm to the south but nothing here. 32 for the day.

A busy weekend. I will be leaving soon to set up the modular for a show tomorrow. It's the largest area show of the winter season. Tonight is our monthly club meet and then back tomorrow for the show.

Our threesome do York in April, use to see Carl, now Bob. Both are worth spending a few minutes to chat with.

Sturgeon-Phish

I bought a couple of tunnel pieces for the All Aboard panels.  Still searching for the elusive 26151 Crossover.

Sturgeon-phish - your talk about the All Aboard panels is making me think about getting out the set that I bought at York a few years back. I have only set it up one other time.  I really like it. At another show a guy had a huge winter AllAboard set that was so reasonable but I passed on it. Last I looked they were really bringing a premium price because of the rarity.

Take care,

Mitch

Morning to all from a cold dreary Gettysburg. The weather forecasters are calling for a icy mess with a little snow for good measure.

My folks came up Thursday. I had made a pot of chicken noodle that we ate for dinner. I wanted to make a batch of homemade one hour dinner rolls to go with dinner. Somehow I messed up and made the wrong recipe. After I had mixed the ingredients, I read further in the recipe that there was 2.5 hours of rise time Bang Head. The dinner rolls didn't finish baking until well after we ate. So....we had dinner rolls for our breakfast.

After breakfast mt Dad and I went to an indoor flea market. They had lots of civil war/military books. I had gone mainly because they had listed toy trains for sale. What they had was some beat up, crusty old post-war stuff  with no prices just make an offer. I took a pass. I might go back on Sunday, the last day and see what's left.

Meeting I was supposed to attend today was cancelled due to impending ice/snow event so I have nothing on my calendar. Might read a new civil war book on Gettysburg that I picked up for $1 at the sale yesterday.

Prayers for Fife's BIL, SPman, Don Bakers MIL, Chief and others I may have left out.

Stay safe.

Mitch

I'll never tell what was happening in the picture! Can't wait until Spring York. Of course Spring York and the NASCAR race at Richmond line up on the same weekend again this year. Glad I'm retired so I don't have to worry about my recreation interfering with work any more.

Good Morning from wet 32°F Southern Ohio,

We're going to the youngest's last swim meet today.  This is here first year in competitive swimming and has really done well.  Hope the roads are not too bad.  We're right at black ice.  There are a few spots that freeze before others so those will need extra care.  We'll take two cars because my MIL is being discharged from the hospital, and after the meet I'll bring the kids home and Mary will take care of her mom.  Like you Don, my bride is her mom's primary medical care giver.

I bought a couple of tunnel pieces for the All Aboard panels.  Still searching for the elusive 26151 Crossover.

Don – It is really good of you to share Kay with you MIL & FIL.  I have a notion what it is like.  In my prayers is a petition for all of you.  And it does sound like another road trip is in the works.

Mike – Hope you had a good day off, sounds like you've needed it.

Need to wake up my bride to get ready to go

May God bless

Jim
