Mornin' boys.  20 mph steady winds and 17 degree temp makes it feel like 0 in the Potomac Valley.  The Harman is a-glowing right now.  Wish I didn't have to drive the youngest to school.  Interesting day ahead.

Dennis think of it this way. The enjoyment you got out of them. The thrill of the new to you feeling. I agree with you on the real expensive stuff now days. I lookat what I have at times and just feel sometimes I have to much. As I have trains that will never probably be used by me, lol.I have train sets I have never even run other than to test the engine and then I have train sets never even ran the engine lol.

Not much going on here. Suppose to be 25 in the morning. Thats cold for here. High of 41 tomorrow but then 60 on Saturday.

Talk to you all later

Things are starting to slow down at work for the holidays.  Won't be running full production next week, and the foreign nationals working here are starting to head for home.

Over the past couple of days, I've put orders in for more people figures for the Polar Express layout.  Last Saturday, I noticed that more people would make the layout look better.

Been looking for a Bumble figure from the Rudolf TV special and an Olaf figure from the movie Frozen.  Not having much luck finding suitable figures.  Looking for elves, too. Anybody out there have any ideas?

I suppose I could try to sell my wife the idea that I need a 3D printer to print elves Devil.

About all for now.

Good Evening All,

V8Vega, I don't recall a "Valley" train club, but that doesn't mean much.  I have been involved with trains since high school, then went on hiatus from 1989 to 2004, (son born).  Do remember the "Tinplate Trackers" which a lot of the members established the "Angel Gate High Railers", located in San Pedro.

Think I have my layout all finished and ready for the holidays.  AND everything is running great.  Kay determined that she needed to clear out some of the older Christmas decorations, so I rescued them.  They are now in the train room, Cool  Still don't have the pictures done, but will do that soon.

On to other stuff, my friend Lloyd, (builds layouts) called and said he needed my help.  Some of you may recall, he and I built a layout for a Dr. back in 2011.  Long story VERY short, the laout was about 90% complete, and the Dr. ran into some legal issues.  (Lost all his assets and spent 18 months in prison).  Lloyd got the layout and has been storing it since then and trying to sell it.   It finally sold this past Wednesday!  So he asked if I would help disassemble it and prepare it for shipment.  It is going to go to Wilmette, Illinois.  And needs to be there BEFORE
Christmas!  Started disconnecting everything today, I think we will have it ready Friday afternoon.  THEN, Lloyd asked me if I would deliver it!!  So it looks like I'm going to do it.  (I am being hansomely rewarded.)  As it is now, I may start out this Saturday for Chicago area, in a rental truck.  Then deliver it Wednesday/Thursday, I hope.  Possibly make a trip to Rockford on Friday, and fly back home on Saturday.  The buyer has a local layout builder their that is going to put it back together.  A couple of early pictures;

The scenery was not finshed to accomodate the new owners purposes.  So I may have a busy week ahead of me.  (This has to be one of the craziest things Ive ever done.)

Good Morning from 15°F Southern Ohio,

It’s been a busy week.  I completed another job qualification at work.  Only two more operator qualifications to go and I have one of them ~ 60% complete and the other ~ 30%.  My goal is to get another qual completed by the end of January and the other by the end of February.

I’m driving a bunch of kids from the Parish youth group to the Columbus Zoo this evening to see the Christmas lights and animals.  It should be fun.  They are a great bunch of kids.

Don - The doctor’s layout is continuing to be quite the adventure!  It is beautiful.  Good luck with your dismantling and have a safe trip.

8N - Didn’t McDonalds have a happy meal with “Frozen” figures a while back? Maybe Ebay has something?

Roy - Sorry, I’ll get the door.  It is suppose to warm up by Sunday.

 Got to go

May God bless

Jim

Mornin' boys and girls.  Calm but 12 along the Patterson Creek cut-off today.

Guess who became the newest employee of the WESTERN MARYLAND SCENIC RAILROAD yesterday afternoon...?

Aaaannnndddd...

Guess who will be the most popular man in Cumberland this weekend?

Will try to get some pics for SPF, although I guess there will be plenty of pics taken after 3 Mountain Limiteds, then 5 Santa Express trips.

dbaker - That is a crazy undertaking.  Safe trip.

Good morning,

18 degrees and snow on the way this afternoon but it looks like Doug M is going to get hit way worse than us. That 70 miles at times can change a lot. Forecast low for Sunday night is -17. Burrrrr.
Don, enjoy your trip up route 66.

Don, that's the wildest thing I have heard from you.  I hope you are in fact handsomely rewarded and I hope you make it home in time for Christmas.  Is anyone going with you?  That's a long way alone.  Hope you have good weather.  I don't want to read anything about a layout in a snow bank in the next issue of CTT.

Good luck and I really mean it.

Dennis, suddenly the lights came on!  I do remember the Valley Club.  I went there a few times with the late Ed Harrigan, a close personal friend and it was in a church.  I think it was started by Artie Lazarides.  It was a small meet but they had nice deserts and things made by Arties wife I think.  I never drove there myself but rode with Ed.  Artie sold a line of new O gauge box cars made by Franks Roundhouse.  I still have one or two of them.  Artie also sold Williams trains.  I bought the scale brass N&W J Class and the Southern Pacific Daylight engines from him.  I believe Artie is living in York Pennsylvania now and likes going to the big meet back there.  He went to his first York meet with Ed and me.

Doug Murphy, I did not see the Bears game on TV but wish I had.  It's about the only snow we see here close up except for on the mountain tops.

Merry Christmas,

Evening all!

Only hit mid 60's today but they are still claiming something like 75 tomorrow before the blast hits. We'll see...

RT - where I come from the motto is "don't get mad, get even"...Mischief

Don - quite the adventure - not sure I could make that trip by myself.

Headed to dinner - Italian - with neighbors. It's a BYOB place we like and the food is excellent.

31 degrees and slowly rising.  A few flakes of
Yankee dandruff falling.  50 by noon.  No hunting this weekend.  SIL finally getting married tomorrow.

Don, now you realize the temps in CA and the temps in Chicago. Surprise Roy, he'll end up in a snow back somewhere in the midwest. Embarrassed

Got word my Lionel Legacy Canadian Pacific SD90 MAC shipped today.  My Christmas present to me.  Cost more than a new gun.  But then I'd have to scope it and they cost that much too or more.

Fifey has a job.  OMG.

Later.

Good evening all,

Thursday night played indoor soccer with the high school kids.  Felt good to kick the ball around.  Work has been quiet for the most part.  Went to see granddaughter's ballet performance tonight.  She was on for all of 5 minutes and I needed binoculars (which I brought) to see her.  Still it was a proud moment for granddad.   Had to drive home in an absolute mess but made it home ok.  Had to tiptoe up icy sidewalk and figure out how to manage glare ice porch to get in back door.   Supposed to be warmer tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' boys.  Freezing rain and 28 in the Potomac Valley.  Hope things ease up by noon.  Yesterday was a bit surreal working for a railroad that I've been admiring from trackside for many a-year.  501 handled the duties on my first trip, and I got to wave at a late arriving Amtrak Capitol Limited, as we were heading out of town.  Evening trip, handled by 502, was loaded with little ones, and I did my best to visit each child (only 2 criers, but 1 convert).  Got used to having a beard and full head of hair, but had to air both out first; whoa...  My conductor gave me YesYes!

Morning all. Looks like a light dusting of the white stuff came last night.

Chief - I'd like get your review of the SD90 when it arrives. I have the 2000(?) version, but I was on the fence on ordering this one. I assume other than it being Legacy and the "scale size" fuel tank, there is better detail than the 2000 version. It's hard to tell when Lionel keeps using those computerized renderings in the catalog.

Roy - You can blame Colorado for the last round of cold weather. Us Northerners aren't on the hook for this one. We'll send you a sweater anyways for those "60 degree" days!! :)

8n - Have you tried miserbros.com for the Bumble? They sell a bunch of retro Rankin/Bass stuff and may have something. Might be worth a look.

Well, off to take Mrs. McC out for the last(yeah, right!) round of Christmas shopping. Wish me luck. Have a great day and prayers to all in need.

Guess who will be the most popular man in Cumberland this weekend?

Morning to all. It's icy outside this AM. Went to let the grand-dog out this Morning and found an icy glaze from frozen precip. It's been a long time since I posted, probably around the Fall York meet. Missed seeing some of the regulars like Fife, Lionroar88, Roy, Jefelectric, and LAZ while at York.

Retirement suits me well. We've done a bit of travel, although our much awaited beach trip to Daytona was cut short by Hurricane Matthew. We were only able to stay 2 days instead of 9 as planned. Heading back to Daytona with my brother for the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona at the end of January.

Finishing up a kitchen remodel. Lowe's did most of the heavy lifting and I did the wallpaper scraping and priming of the walls. Painting will have to wait until after the holidays.

Most of the decorations are up. I have two loops of Standard Gauge under the tree this year. It's a challenge to run them with a 60+ lb. English Bulldog sticking his big mug into the mix. Usually winds up with a derailment. Tried locking him in another room but then he whines and scratches at the door. I guess he likes to play with trains too.

Fife - congrats on the new gig. Should be a fun time. I got a gift certificate for the Western Maryland Scenic Railway as a retirement present. Waiting for warmer weather to use it. I think I read they will be running a steam loco again next summer.

DBaker - Safe travels on your journey to the icy Midwest. Supposed to be wicked cold. We had a friend who cancelled a planned trip to Kenosha, WI because of the extreme weather.

Well, my coffee cup is empty and I hear the dining car pulling into the station. Think I'll make a bacon and egg sandwich.

Take care,

Mitch

I need to get moving ( take pills, feed the cat's etc. ) will talk to you all later.

Good morning

Got the same weather as Mitch.

Sandra went out to let the cat in and took a fall on the ice cut her leg all up and her big toe.  She is a mess.I will be tending to her today.

All we got was ice, no snow and you can't see the ice on top of the old snow.

Ugh!
