Wow, what a difference a day makes. Sunny and cool. Beautiful out. Power restored by 2 PM yesterday. One wire gave power back to thousands and a big chunk of the county.
Flooding down east is bad. So much rain and then we had it too. With this area so populated, runoff is high. Causes flooding down east as they are flat. Helicopters still rescuing folks. Towns getting flooded. Right now, would be hard to reach the farms. Its OK but getting there is the problem. I 95 closed in several stretches. I 40 closed toward Wilmington. Water rising and will for the farther east as more water gets down that way.
Not much on agenda for today. Have a good one.

Morning all. Not a lot going on for today. Roofers should be here soon. And then my home nurse about 9 - 9:30. Then my time from there on with I.V. starting at 10. Man I will be so glad when all this is over. Between the wound pump and the I.V's I'm about to go dingy lol wait I'm already there.
Hope all have a good day will talk to you all later

Happy Columbus Day!
The kids do not have school today and I do not have work; however, I wonder how long this day will continue to be a holiday. As someone with an Italian heritage I was always aware of this holiday, but last week I was speaking to some people who didn't even know it was a holiday. I suspect many others are in that category and I believe there are others who do not want it to be a holiday. Either way, I will teach my kids of its significance and enjoy the day.
Yesterday, the kids and I relaxed around the house. The only time I left was to go buy the older son a new charger for his mobile phone. The youngest has been enjoying a telescope I bought. It is nothing fancy and so far we are mostly using it for him to look at horses and cows in the far off fields. It's time for breakfast now.
Chief - Sorry to hear about your power troubles. I hope the storm doesn't cause too much damage.
Good day,
Joe
Good evening all,
Grandkids lost one and tied one today. I did a 7.2 mile jog/walk in 1:46:38 for a 4.05 MPH average over entire length. Each week I add a .72 mile lap. Hope to be to 13.1 soon and working on increasing speed so that the 4 MPH barrier falls. Weather was nice today. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good Evening from beautiful Southern Ohio,
It was a great weekend for camping. The weather cooperated and the kids had a great time. Lots of good food and friends.
Chief - I think a lot of the planes went up to Rickenbacker AFB south of Columbus O.
Kev - Pretty posh for your kitty
Good night and may God bless
Jim
I haven't really been keeping up with it but Charleston is/has suposedly flooded.
had minor damage here at the house. Nothing to sweat the load about.
Finally got to see some news. Eastern NC going to flood like Floyd did. Princeville at Tarboro going under water. Parts of Wilson under water. Bills Bar-b-q in Wilson flooded. Down south, flooded towns in low areas near Lumber River. Smithfield flooded due to Neuse [we cause it in Wake County due to runoff from development]. One US highway I use a lot to go to the "corn lady" flooded near farm. Farm and woods are flat and will flood in low spots but not really flood like some areas. When Floyd hit down east, thousands of hogs drown, caskets floated up, propane tanks floated down river and homes went under water. This area flooded for the first time since the great flood in Noah's time. Now may happen again. Sad. Water going over dams where usually go through spillways. Seems we got it worse than the coast. Some down there may get it later due to water getting there in a few days. Goldsboro and Seymour Johnson AFB are right on the Neuse River so concerns there. F-15's and KC-135's were flown out days ago. Prayers for all those down east.
Afternoon. Wifey had said power back on by 2 PM. Around 2 I started to go to generator for frig and freezer. Deep cycle battery bilge pumps were doing great. As I reached for the main breaker, I heard the alarm system go beep. That meant power. Then the freezer kicked on. Looked in kitchen and frig display was lit. 2:02 PM. Wifey was pretty close. I had called Duke rep and gave him the riot act. Had folks visiting my house, texting and calling. One wire was holding up the whole part of the County as well as our Town. Lots of money lost by businesses having to throw out food. As well as lost income. All on one wire. Claimed they walked the whole line. What happened to the helicopters????? Folks are mad. See the co-op all around this area was up and running. Duke was more interested in the big city than the smaller towns that could be easily restored. The news producer for the big TV station lives here. She was getting mad. Trying to get her big boss to do story. Every time a storm, we drop power. Fed through the swamps and woods to big substation. Only feed. No alternative. Lots of people fed out of the big substation. Covers 4 acres. Now whining that I 95 shutting down and rerouting through a town with no power. Duke has grown too big compared to the size of its repair staff.
Morning all!
Sunny and cool this morning. 58 right now. 76 later. High 80's and maybe even 90 by mid-week.
Rob - I sure hope not!
NASCAR and Cowboys today.

Morning all! Fall is finally hitting the Chicago area - mornings are nicely in the 50s and 60s. Son and wife are going to pick pumpkins today - but I'll be working much of the day. Recently started work on a second client engagement and there's a lot to do - at the same time my first client loaded on a pile of new activities. Good for the cashflow; not so good for the free time. A couple of days ago I turned on the ICRR for 10 minutes just to help me relax a bit - might do so today as well.

Guten morgen,
Banks - I will pray for your wife and you.
The kids and I returned home yesterday evening. On Friday, we toured Cochem castle which was neat and then spent some time in the village of Cochem. It is located along the Mosel and is quite picturesque. On Saturday, we spent the day in Trier. We saw the Porta Nigra (built around 180 AD), Constantine's basilika,Trier Cathedral (oldest in Germany), and some other neat sights, including a Toy Museum which had many old Marklin trains. We also visited a Marklin store but it was all HO. Either way, we ate great food and had a blast. We will spend today relaxing.
Brent - I never heard of that village, but we should be able to explore it when we visit Bonn and Koln.
Hello all
Back in the Ol' Pueblo.
We pulled the '48 Arrow Coach in the barn today. Lou, one of our volunteers (86 yrs old), cleaned out all the junk in it this past week. The engine is still in it but is not running. We pushed, pulled, and tugged using (in order): the forklift, the bucket truck, the Datsun, the 'Fishbowl' bus, and finally the 4 of us to get it into position.
Interesting and rather rare vehicle. One of only 60 or so made. Has observation windows like the Super Chief on top. Used by Tanner and then later by an outfit here in southern AZ before it was removed from revenue service. It has the biggest darn standard transmission I've ever seen.
Got the shower working better tonight in the bus. Slowly getting things settled there. Will put some parts on the Datsun tomorrow and have a look at my friend's Lakewood.

Evening all!Beautiful day here today and mild with a breeze.Went to an Italian place for dinner. Had not been there for quite some time. Great meal. They rearranged the menu and the way they served the food.Texas A&M pulled out an OT nail biter against Tennessee this evening.East coasters stay dry!
Evening all. Not much going on here tonight. we had some strong winds and heavy rain over night and thru the morning but all is fine now.
Been relaxing most of the day as is the plan for tomorrow also. May go pick up some limbs tomorrow ( small ones) so when they come to work on the roof there not in there area and I'm not trying to work around them to get them up. have plenty of them. will pull truck up and just put in back of truck then take to where I'm going to place them for the town to pick up on thursday.
Be glad when I get rid of this wound vacuume off of me as it's so hard to do anything with that attached to me as normally need one hand on it while trying to do something with other. And you really need two hands to do what your trying to do.
Hope all having a good weekend. Talk to you all later
Morning. RAIN and more rain. 3.4" and going up fast on weather station. All of eastern NC under flash flood warnings. Will be for a couple of days as rivers rise. Better than hurricane and rain.
Raining so hard I can't get to train box without getting soaked. Would be a good day to work there.
Wifey went out on an errand [blonde thing]. Got soaked and terminated trip early. DUH
Hope all OK. Prayers for Mrs. Banks.
RT back to his old carpetbagger self. That is good.
Mirra the cat is the same as George. Sleeps in and goes out during the day. Stayed in this AM until 10. Couldn't stand it anymore and ran out to the shelter in the rain. She only stays in all day during the snows. Wifey has to get her box ready for the winter. She uses then if snowing.
Later.
Correction 5" since I first posted.
RT George was 8 last spring.
George always shows me he has never forgot I saved him from a sure death. Don't know how but it is understood.
George, He loves the inside but when he was small we had Katie's cat Skyla and the dog Lacy So George spent the first few years outside. Why there is no cat box. He takes his dutys outside, Wherever he likes.
George is only 8 years old, so he should have some time. He checked out the work I did today and put his tail in the air and walked away, LOL. He will think different when it is 0 out there and I am sleeping......

Another long day at work. Mostly caught up, but I think next week will be long as well. Nice day for a walk. Mowed the yard tonight. Going to get colder here. I hope everyone has a good day.
I bought a n scale set the other day. The wife saw it tonight and said don't set that up the cats will grab and swallow them. Kevin wife likes what you do for George. Asked how old is George? I said I think around 10. Wife worried about the storm. Me were over 100 miles from Charleston going inland. Yes we will get some tropical strength winds and rain but we will be fine.
The new roof is coming along fine. They removed shingles and put down new plywood, and tar paper yesterday on one side, and put down the new shingles on that today before the rain started. Oh yeah they removed the two chimney's also. One was causing structure problems the other was just to get it out of there sense it was not being used anyway. the first one was only as far as the floor in the attic as it was to where a stove was hooked up at one time thru the ceiling. so the house was supporting it not the ground like the other one.
Bought a train set tonight from 1974 time period. it had a U36B engine ( chessie System ) and 7 cars. I believe the engine alone is worth what I paid for the whole set.
Prayers for all in need. Hope all had a good day.
Roy, never thought of pipe heater tape to the bottom. This pad heats up to 101F when the cats weight is on it. Works good and this is year 8 for it. Most of the time now days he just takes over the house, but it is good to know he will be okay if we head out for a few days.
Evening all,
My first post for October, read all the posts for the month to catch up.
Congrats to Demay on the anniversary.
Prayers for SPman, Mrs Banks, RT, Chief. Hope I didn't miss anyone.
Thoughts are with those in the storm threatened areas.
Did run a few trains the other day, checking them out for fall. Also starting to think about York.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Evening all!
Rain this morning and cooler this afternoon. 70's. Nice. 80's next week.
Banks - prayers for Mrs Banks.
Chief - take care of that surgical wound.
Ray - prayers you get well quick. Prayers for your wife.
Kev - similar setup for cat as one of my buddies did for his outdoor dog years ago. He stapled pipe heater tape to the bottom of the dog house.
Our high today was when I got up. Only 55 now with a stiff wind out of the northwest.
So I got George's winter igloo ready for the season, Cleaned inside and out, cleaned the carpet, cleaned the heated sleeping pad and cover, tested it and placed the heated water bowel. What more could a cat want?
Still waiting for call back from doctor, day 2. Guess I'll have to call them again. Missed my Friday morning breakfast with train buddies because I over slept and completely forgot it. Still coughing some. On day three now with antibiotics. Missing lunch with Helen. Might go for dinner if I feel up to it or lunch tomorrow. Been watching a lot of old you tubes with trains from our area. Mostly about 4449 and 844.
later,
Ray
SPMan
Nice morning here on the mountain.
Banks - thoughts and prayers for the Mrs.
Chief - I hope that all gets sorted out.
A few projects to finish up here today and then head home in the afternoon. Hopefully this weekend should be a bit slower. Still can't quite get used to the idea that I don't have to back to the trailer.
Will continue to work on some stuff on the motorhome and get things settled and put some parts on the Datsun.
Good morning,
Cold and windy, acorns and leaves falling. Need a hard hat to walk through the yard. High of 69 today.
Looks like the storm isn’t going to be as bad as they all thought. That is a good thing.
Chief. Don’t bleed out on us!
Ray, Doctors,,, what can one say. I have had my fill of them this year. At least your test went well.
Banks, Prayers sent that it is early and all will be fine for your wife.
Mornin' FellasBanks - prayers for the Mrs. Fife - awesome story. You've touched many lives, and some you probably aren't aware of.
Demay Guten morgen, We definitely have fall weather now; the highs are in the low to mid-50s and it is usually partly cloudy. At least there is no rain so we can comfortably do things outside. The kids have a half-day of school today and are off tomorrow and Monday. So, the kids and I will travel to another part of Germany today and sightsee the next two days. Two highlights of the trip: Trier, the oldest city in Germany; and Burg Eltz. Fife - It is amazing how we can be so connected. Kudos to the driver for adopting him and helping him. Mike C. - My older son's soccer team has not won a game and has taken some thrashings from these German teams. The worst yet was on Tuesday night - 19-0. Our defense is obviously bad and I hope the coach makes some adjustments. Our goalie is actually quite good and makes many great saves. Good day, Joe
