Kev, From The North Bluff Above Marseilles IL.
So, my dad was going through some old pictures and came across this one. I'm guessing that it was taken at Christmas 1945 at my grandparents' home in Hyde Park (Chicago). The train is likely my great-uncle's Pre-War Lionel set (since it was 1945, toy production I don't think had picked up yet after WWII) that he sold when he went into the USAF - but I can also make out a Marx switch tower, Marx crossing gate, and some Lionel telephone poles all of which I (well, Noah) still have. Need to find a picture of me playing with the train, take one of Noah, and frame the whole thing.
Can anyone identify any of the other equiment?

Good evening,
I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday. I will fire up the grill soon.
JT - That is a great photo.
Phish - Sent you a PM.

Good evening all,
Oldest daughter and her family were down Sunday. Got the soccer schedule for the two kids of theirs that are playing. Weekends just got busier. Jim, thank you for the compliment, but reffing U-10 is not terribly tough. These two games did keep me busy. Did nothing today. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Mornin' boys. Sunny & 67 in the Mid-Atlantic region. Hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend. The pee-wee Gators won their game. I realy got "relaxed" at the in-laws' cook-out Sunday, and just chilled yesterday. Gotta pack the Durango full of display cabinets and various items from Frah-gee-lee for an impromptu trip to WV...
Mornin' FellasWOW September?!?!?! Spent the weekend fighting a head cold. Still managed to remove the doors to the well room, clean them, and repaint them. Also painted the trim around the well room doors. Will be repainting the basement bathroom and replacing the vanity (mold issues that have been remediated). Also took the doors to the office down and have one side painted, and painted more trim in the entryway. Would have it all done if not for this head cold. Oh well, I'll get it finished this week after work.Grilled a turkey yesterday, man was that good!Looks like Fifedom is clearing out! Does that mean you got an offer? Sorry I couldn't make it out for a final run. Really wanted to do that. Got a call from the LTS. The owner has sold the business and the new owners are no longer doing consignment sales, so I have to go pickup my ABBA B&O Sharks. Need to get them posted to an auction site I guess... and maybe some other items.

Demay JT - That is a great photo.
Yeah, it scanned well. I talked to my father last night and he thinks it was taken perhaps in 1943 or 1944 - if so, it's definitely an all Pre-War layout. And to think that only a year or so before this was taken, only a mile away at the U of C, Enrico Fermi was running CP-1. In retrospect, the level of confidence (or arrogance/hubris) to build the first nuclear reactor in the middle of major US city was immense.
Aloha. Happy September - it's 93 in downtown Chicago already. Sheesh. Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. I had a quiet one - yardwork, cookout and took out a sailboat for a brief jaunt around the lake. SJ, I fear the Tigers will spank the Sox this week.
DonB, I forgot to answer your question from last week. The boats I rent are usually available as long as the air temp is 60 or above. So maybe into early Oct. if I am lucky. By then, the marina is only open for a few hours mid-day. I'm usually one of the last to take a boat out (apart from the fisher-people.).
Hope you're feeling better, Kev. JT, that's a great photo. I think I have the same bridge. I took a tour at U of C that included a visit to the site of the first atomic pile. Right smack in the middle of campus (under the former bleachers of their football stadium).

Shalom Y'all,
Things went quite well yesterday at the Kid's Club Fun Run. No catastrophic incidents, not even any little ones.
Everything from yesterday serviced and returned to their proper places, now it is time to veg-out and chill.
Later all.

Today's weather was great, but work felt like a Monday although it was Tuesday. The youngest started Kindergarten today which was fun. Tomorrow, I will travel fly to Berlin for two days for work. I wanted to take the train but that would take about six hours without delays and I need to be there by a certain time.
Have a great day,
Work was busy. The high school boys lost a 1-0 heartbreaker tonight. Played the other team even for 79 minutes and 4 seconds, and the bottom dropped out. Girls are on the road. Weather is hot. Sato was headed for a top 10 finish Sunday, but overcooked it trying for 7th and wound up 17th. Somehow I think AJ was not pleased.... I hope everyone has a good day.
Evening gang,
Survived the holiday weekend. Great weather! Going to heat up again and today gave it a good start with humidity rise to boot.
Have a great evening all!
Regards, Roy
Good morning all,
Girls lost 4-1. Not a good night for the soccer teams. Work quiet so far.
Good morning, I went to the Daughters, picked up Dan and we picked up their glass table top for the dinning room table. Did not break it.
Back home just chilling out.
Slept so so.
Afternoon gang,
Nice and real warm today. 95? Maybe.
Dennis - good deals there.
Kev - keep healing up.
Have a great afternoon all!
Made it safely to Berlin. It is a neat city.
Quiet, good day at work. Weather still hot. Rested tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good Evening,
Hope everyone is doing well! Especially Kev and the healing.
Been watching the Harley and Davidsons on Discovery, lots of commercials but a very interesting series.
Had a great day today! I received a couple of months ago 3 prints from a friend of Kay's of some trains. We actually got them hung up today, (Chris did it!). They are awesome! They really finish off the train room. Timing is perfect, just received a Lionel Hiesler, finished the Dwarf Signal installation, and now the pictures.
John Bonn prints.
Just had to share.
Don
Good evening all, not much to report but I have been nominated by my kids to take care of their bird while they go away for two or three days. The cockateal has lost some of his wing feathers so he won't be able to fly in the house. That's OK with me. Got swimming pool cleaned up but now the water is cooling off at night and doesn't bounce back as fast. When it goes below 80, I'm out of there. Still hot (for me) in the day time although we are below normal. TV was acting up the other day but it turned out the problem was in the cable box and they fixed it. Now there is not much on worth watching. It's all politics. Be glad when this election is over. People calling lately taking surveys about our city. I don't mind a few questions but these birds try to keep you on the phone forever. I learned my lesson. I'm back to the answering machine again. Nine times out of ten it's a telemarketer or a political ad.
later,
Ray

Good morning gang,
Bad night, Lots of pain problems so I took a NORCO at 2:00 and got to sleep at last. Man I have lost 17 # and have run out of belt holes.
it rained most of the night but I don't know how much yet. Just starting to move around. Today Lexi the grand daughter is 6 years old. WOW where did that time go?
We are going to meet them at Chili's tonight for a birthday dinner and then her party will be on Saturday,
Not much else.
Prayers for all in need.
Up-date: We got 1.6" of rain last night.
I did get into the basement yesterday and ran some trains to clean up the track some. I was running the Santa-Fe A-B set with the three motors. What a puller.
Happy birthday to Lexi.
Just checking in.
It's been hot and humid, 90s again today. Yesterdays storms missed us but will take another shot at us today. The phone drives me nuts, if I don't know who it is, they can leave a message. I unplug it at nap time.

Quiet day at work, but semi-busy. Watched boys lose 3-0 in a match called at about 55 minutes due to T-storms. Rest of evening was quiet. I hope everyone has a good day.
TGIF! !!!!!!
back later

Good Morning from overcast 70F Southern Ohio,
TGIF! Thinking of you LAZ.
It has been pretty active around the Sturgeon household. Felicity the oldest had kidney stones crushed and removed yesterday so she is home from school today and I’ll be taking care of her. Gabriel’s football team I help coach won their game yesterday 36-0. They played really well. We moved in a new center and moved the center to tackle. That move helped the offense finally click. On defense moved the secondary around some and that helped as well. And we received our new chicks in the mail yesterday. We’ll keep a close eye on them over the next few days as they recover from their trip. We got 6 Barred Plymouth Rocks. They are a dual purpose bird as they are good layers and meat producers. These girls are going to be for eggs. They are also very gentle and enjoy handling. These last two characteristics were the deciding factor as the neighborhood kids pretty much play in our yard and enjoyed messing with the 4-H meat chickens.
Kev - If you’re just using the meds at night you’re doing good. Train therapy helps too I’d imagine. The kids grow fast! You are in my prayers for healing!
Ray - Bird sitting?! Let us know how that works out.
Don - the prints look great above that upper shelf track. They are beautiful prints.
Joe - It would be neat to have an overseas assignment for a bit. Between the travel and sightseeing immersing into the culture, and the experience for the kids, priceless!
Fife - so Fifedom is sold?
JT - That is a neat picture. It has got to make you smile!
May God bless
Jim
Slept like crud but without a lot drugs. Sore today, my sides, arms and back. Must be from the hours on the tractor yesterday.
I got my red meat last night at Chili's, that place is a rip-off.
3 adults and 2 kids and on the top side of,,,the $80 range. It ain't that good. At least Katie split the bill with us.
Looks like rain after noon and so foggy now I can barley see the shed.
Maybe help Jim next door spread gravel today before the rain. We finished the lane yesterday till next year. Needs gravel every year. Was never done right the first time so it just pumps away at spring break-out.
Pish, Good job Coach!
SJ. we have trees already with leaves falling.
Phish - Just about. Can't spike the ball yet...
Mornin' boys. Cloudy and hot in the Mid-Atlantic region. Wifey and I put a bid on a 22'x16' train room (with rancher style home attached) yesterday. Was accepted by sellers, so now the real fun begins.
88 - Thanks for the offer. Will probably need some of your computer/AV knowledge after we move in. Wifey is thinking "country chic", whatever that is...?
for those on the mend.
Go Falcons! Go Blue!
Morning all -
- finally finished getting some shelving up over the workbench last night, so much nicer now not to have things piled (as high) on one another. Now to work on some better lighting.
Been picking up a few small things on Da Bay lately - got a near-mint 95 rheostat in last night. A(nother) #125 whistle shed should arrive in the next couple of days. Loved the article in CTT last month on them!
Mornin' FellasBeen kind of crazy around here. As many of you know last year the company I worked for was bought, along with another security company. Well my company merged into the other company and I eventually got hired on full time in March. Well not a month or two later and it was announced we (our parent company) had bought another security company and we were folding their operations into ours, but retaining their name (larger firm and more name recognition)... still don't know what my future is with the new company... this is so much fun! YEEHAW!

Hello all
Warm humid day here in the Ol' Pueblo after a couple good days of rain. Had problems w/ the Chromebook so I'm using the old backup Thinkpad for now.
Got the Datsun back up and running, but still using the electric fuel pump. New one turned out to be just trim:) I call it a camshaft stabilizer dampened by fuel. Nice to have the truck back. It's a better city car and gets better mileage than the Corvan (which boils off two carbs full of fuel in the summer when you park it!).
Kev - glad the meds are working out
RT is in the hospital for a bit. Problems w/ the leads to his defibullator. Doesn't sound too serious, but enough to put him in the hospital.
JT - I find nuclear power fascinating, but you can't make any mistakes. I was this close to volunteering to run a nuclear tea kettle on a submarine after high school. I thought I wanted to be an officer (and so did Dad) and ended up in the Seabees in the reserves. Go figure.
