Well Buckeye - did'ja see the FAA drone news? No more hangin' over bridges for you. You will sit at the office looking at bridges on your PC. Now you can say any flies over your layout are bridge inspection drones!

Roy...... Traffic engineers are using drones above intersections and interchanges to see how the traffic really flows instead of a computer model.  Yes, the drones are being using to look at really big bridges.  I'm thinking of getting one so that I can look into Doug Murphy's window at his work.  (Several of you will understand that inside joke, no pun intended. Whistling)

Like all the other rules/laws they are only for the honest people, they'll still have problems with drone / plane encounters. Not nearly enough FAA people to enforce the rules.

Morning gang!

JEFelec - Have to agree somewhat with Buckeye, those are not page numbers, it is the temperature at the Kalmbach offices.

Well Buckeye - did'ja see the FAA drone news? No more hangin' over bridges for you. You will sit at the office looking at bridges on your PC. Now you can say any flies over your layout are bridge inspection drones!

Chuck - the ol' snow cannon didn't have the power to get down here.

Aloha. 'Lake-effect' snow in the Loop today. Looks like cold may set a record this week. Of course, we've had sub-zero temps in March so go figure. Hope your FiL is OK, 8n.

Fifepup has to get out for work, so I best get shovelin'.

I feel there is something wrong with this picture Fife? Confused

Light snow and 19 degrees. Going down from here. The deer have been like airliners circling in holding patterns coming to the airport last few days. They are coming from all directions to the feed pan. Had to give them 4 coffee cans of food yesterday. We counted 15 different deer at the pan. They come in groups from 3 to 7 at a time.  I need to get more corn.  One gal has no fear of me at all and just stands there by the pan till  I put corn in it. Between the corn and the bird seed like Jeff is going through I am going broke.

8N, Sorry to hear about your wife's dad. Bad stuff. Does that MPC era #3 General have a Pulmore or a can motor?

Just yesterday Jim the neighbor next door called and told me his brother Jerry's wife fell down the stairs Valentine's night and broke her neck. Killed her.  Jerry is taking it hard.  What can you say??  Sad

We did not know her too well but had attended some cookouts and stuff with them. She was 61.

Stay warm and stay safe!

Good morning all,

A fresh coat of white again this morning about 3", just enough to cover up the dirty stuff.  They are predicting a warmer trend today, may go up to 26, Wow!  Then back to the high in the teens.  I've got a friend that keeps emailing me pictures of trains in the snow, told him enough already, think he took me seriously as I haven't gotten any for a few days.  We've been going through bird seed like crazy,  hope they appreciate it.  Even had some crows drop by the bird feeders.

Not much train activity, got an Atlas 0-6-0 switcher with TMCC that is giving me fits.  Sometimes it works just fine, next time it just sits there and blows the whistle louder as you advance the throttle.  A reset will correct it but next time it will act up again. Beautiful little loco, but I'm about to retire it to the display shelf.

Stay warm out there.

Glad several of you like the utility work photos.

I heard that it is going down to -2 degrees in Roseyville on Thursday night.  You know who is going to freeze his you know what off.  Mischief Yes Yeah Us boys from Ohio love sharing our cold air with the Boss Hog of Roseyville.

Not quite.  Maybe 0.  Actually TV is saying that is a little on the low side.  What's the difference in 0 and 5.  They are both cold.  High Friday 11.

We had snohio earlier.  Mainly sleet with some freezing rain.  Thank God for natural gas heat.

Sleep tight.

CNW1995 - My wife and I also watched the Grand Budapest Hotel the other night.  You are right - it is a good movie.

My wife's dad fell  on the stairs last Saturday.  A neck injury has him in the hospital.  Today's news was about MRI's and neuro surgeons.  We'll have to stay loose with our plans for the next couple of weeks - about the only constant to work around is my wife's next back treatment.

14 degrees here today and about 4" of nice fluffy snow.  This is the first real snow we have had this winter.  It was kind of fun watching all of the guys from South America arrive at work today and comment about driving in it - for many of them, this was the first time they have driven in snow.  Got my workout with the snow shovel tonight instead of the eliptical.

I pulled the trigger on a MPC era #3 General.  Appeared to have low hours, had the look I wanted, and the price was OK.  It should arrive later this week - then I'll know for sure.

All for now.

And the bitter cold continues! Snowing pretty good here - supposed to end up with 4-6 of the lovely white stuff. It is so cold the snow thrower should toss just about to Jack's place. If you haven't seen his FB updates you can hardly see their house from the street now. Snow piled so high that it is about to the top of their garage doors, and with what they are slated to get the rest of this week... he may be able to use his second floor windows as doors.

I have not seen that much snow since the late 1970s (when we were on the verge of the next ice age)...

Yes Chuck, I am loving the snow.  It appears to be coming to an end now.  I just finished shoveling the driveway and sidewalks, which is always fun to me.

I hope our Southern friends fare well.

I hope they know some good Plumbers with all those water lines 10” or less below the ground and no insulation under their trailers. Smile, Wink & Grin Those heat pumps won't cut it either!!! Surprise
Saw the same kind of thing once in south Texas, San Antonio. Heck, they did not even have heaters in the train station there.
It will be bad. Tongue Tied

Good evening all,

Fought off Chuck's snow cannon all the way into work and all the way home.  Quiet day at work.  Did not walk outside at noon.  Will be watching Jane the Virgin tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Doug, appreciate the tip on the rollers.

Good afternoon,

As Chuck stated, it is wonderfully cold here.  It has been snowing all day, but it is a dry snow and not too much has accumulated.  I am not working so we have been relaxing all day.  The wife made a pot of stew which is perfect for a day like today.  I hope you all have a terrrific day.

Great photos Buckeye!

Mike C. - Nice job on the walk/jog.

Aloha. Cold downtown like almost everywhere else but at least we dodged a lot of snow. I watched Grand Budapest Hotel again last night. A really enjoyable movie with a few nice train scenes. MikeC, during this time of year, I spray the door rollers with silicon lubricant - or WD-40 if I don't have the former. That seems to loosen everything up and kept out the moisture.  Love the utility work crew Buckeye!

Good evening all,

Roy, I hope the rollers will loosen up.  It may be they are just new.   Joe, I will see what I can do on the posting.   Did a 2 hour walk/jog to prep for the mini.  I may have done 8 miles.  Felt dead afterward and did nothing either.  Took a nap and sort of feel human again.  Chuck has the snow cannon pointed at us again.  Could be an interesting drive tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Wow!!! Is it cold at Rogers Corners today.  In fact, we had a water line break on the Baltimore, Ohio and Wabash RR.  Our utility department arrived to fix the break at noon.

The utilities superintendent told them to get to work and eat lunch later.

We have been running and running trains this weekend on the B.O.&W. RR this weekend.  With the bridge completed the line to Garrett is back open.Big Smile

Good afternoon,

It is a beautiful sunny Sunday here.  It is around 10 degrees outside but it feels great.  We went to church last night so we were able to sleep in and be lazy this morning.  I am taking care of some house chores today and may run to the store to grab some green paint for the layout table top.  I am taking off this week from work so I should be able to make some more progress on the layout.  I am enjoying running the trains so the motivation to do more scenery stuff isn't there.

dougdagrump - Unfortunately I was not that far south.  I was at Edwards AFB near Palmdale.

8N - I hope your wife is feeling better.

Banks - I'll pray for your sister-in-law.

Mike C. - Those Creator sets are neat.  I hope you will post some photos.

Not much different on The North Bluff than the rest of you out east are seeing. Cold sitting at 7 degrees. The good thing is today we have bright sunshine and no wind. Smile
