I read about that sunday but if you watch carefully you can see the lead engine falling over on its side. This is the best video I have seen of it . Thanks doug I see NS engines but could of swore they said SP was investigating it. and said this is like the 3rd time this year

RT,

I think I'll investigate how difficult it is to move the coil coupler to the rear.  I'll do it in conjunction with reworking the tether.  Shouldn't be too difficult.  Ideally, I'll modify the front pilot to look prototypically correct and add a scale coupler.

I'm really stoked about doing some conversions on a few of my non TMCC fleet.  I got you in mind as soon as I decide which engine to try first.

BTW, I spent an hour looking at the photos on your webpage again.  Absolutely fantastic collection!

Lionel and others put dummy couplers on the rear of their F units because it was intended that they run as AA or ABA that would leave a working coupler on both ends.

Buckeye - Stoney Creek has good food, Mike's Crab House has good food and scenery.  Bamboo Bernie's has the best burger.   I wouldn't recommend Roy wondering around Mt Royal (or Baltimore City) on his own. He is toooo, ummm-Texan.

Are you able to take your meds daily without forgetting them?  YES!!!

My reply: Do you think I am 95 or something???? [or Buckeye]

Wow! Chief, that is some buggy Frankie has.  I rode a bicycle until I graduated high school and didn't own a car until I got married.  Looks like a fun plaything.  The road from Gettysburg to York is slow as has been said.  It was a two lane road last time I was there but that has been a quite few years ago.

sir james I

S.J.

That's also the way they're configured on this pair of K-Line F7 A units, SJ, but the dummies are not the issue.  The problem is that there is a coil coupler on the front of the lead unit and a manual coupler, not a dummy,  on the cab end of the rear A unit.

I realize I could always run the team backwards to place the remote coupler where it's most needed but I thought of just changing out the operating couplers front to rear.  About the only remaining minor issue then would be having to press the front uncoupler button to operate the rear.

That's what SJ is saying Lionel did that because the were suppose to be run AA one forward and one back wards back ends connected to each other so you had couplers at each end and you could run them either way to me it was always a pain to connect them also. now they do not make a eltro coupler that small but Boxcar Bill has some close I'm not sure where he gets them but ERR are all either 1 3/4" or 2" long I think boxcar Bill has like 1 1/4" .

Just taking it easy to day stopping in to say Hi to all. About time to go get some supper made last I ate was like 11 am I think something like that lol

Wish I was going with you all to York just don't see it maybe a few years down the road but not any time soon.

Sorry guys...maybe I'm not making myself clear enough.

Yes, there are 2 dummy couplers on the rear of both units and I understand that the units are normally run back to back with those couplers joined.

It's the other couplers position that are confusing.  Why put the coil coupler up front and the manually opening coupler out back?  Maybe because the rear coupler can be opened during conventional running whereas the coil coupler can only be opened using TMCC?  I think the existing configuration on this set takes into consideration that not everyone operates under TMCC.

Bruce, not sure but maybe they want the dummy run in front of the power unit. Does that make sense?

Not much to report here. I did run the trains for about 1/2 hour last night to clean the track of dust. Wink

Sunny and low 70's today. Haven't been around for a while. I got an ear infection around Labor day, then picked up a cough a couple of weeks later. After a couple rounds of antibiotics, I'm just this week starting to feel better. Work was busy as well on top of not feeling well. Got home and just zoned out. On a high point, we got up to Michigan to celebrate mom's 90th birthday. It is the first time in several years both of our sons have been with us. Pleasant time. Got a cute picture of mom in her wheelchair with a fork working on one corner of the full sheet cake we had. Gonna take a while to catch up on the pot. Looking into next year, I am going to be setting up 5 or 6 temporary layouts at a couple of locations next year. I need to find something better than cardboard boxes to transport my trains. I know some of you folks frequently carry trains to other locations to run them. What do you use to transport them? I noticed that Lionel rolling stock seems to come in several 'standard' sizes. I'm thinking about making trays with appropriate 'standard' dividers to carry my trains. The tool bar is gone again. Looks like I'll have to find the proper parameter and re-set it again. All for now.

I thought of that too, Kev.  It's not much of an inconvenience to do it that way.  I'm beginning to wonder if both engines weren't supposed to have coil couplers originally...read on

In actuality, both front and rear units are powered yet both engines are controlled by one TMCC receiver in the front unit.  The tether even transmits power to the rear motors.  It's now becoming obvious to me, from the removal of center rail power wires to the rollers in the rear unit, that this set has been hacked at sometime in it's past.  Switching things around to my satisfaction shouldn't cause any concern that I'm detracting from originality.

I plan to rewire the tether for reliability and maybe tap the power off the rear trucks to improve continuity over switches and such, although it's getting consistant power as is.  This'll definitely be a Frankendeisel when I'm done with her.

Good evening all,

Work was busy today.  Gave "my" soccer girls some bling for a winning season.  I think they liked it.  Shared some moments with the seniors.  Will really miss this bunch.  Mowed the yard.  Unclogged gutters on barn.  Watched Arrow.  Was hoping Oliver and Felicity would get together.  Not going to happen.  Got ready for tomorrow's game.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Bruce,

Here's a link to the original listing in the 2000 Vol 1 K-Line catalog. You will notice that they make no mention of electrocouplers at all. Even in a 2001 catalog that I have the F series engines are not id'd as having electrocouplers. The FT's were but not the F-3/7's.

http://www.legacykline.com/apps/kl/catalog.html?useraction=catalogs&p_catalog=2000+1st+Edition&p_item_type=O+Scale+Diesels&p_oem_sku=K-25181

Busy afternoon, spent time with the daughter's Cub Scout pack, we built birdfeeders. Needless to say it was interesting. Whistling

Work progresses on the halloween layout. First casualty is the Scareosel, sounds and lights are good but it no longer goes round-n-round. Sigh

Chief, I can just imagine what that set of wheels would cost to insure out here in LaLa land. Blindfold

Well, time to call it a nite. Got a few things to do before bedtime.

Evening all!

The road from Gettysburg to York is mostly 2 lane. Drove it last fall. May be as fast to take interstate to Harrisburg and then down to York.

Banks and all - I think we can work out dinner Fri night. Buckeye, will you still be there?

There are several places near the Fairgrounds. Logan's Roadhouse, Lyndon Diner, Smokey Bones, Ruby Tuesdays, etc, all on/near Hwy 30 (Loucks Rd) at/near the Carlisle Rd (Hwy 74) intersection. Carlisle is the exit from 30 that runs across the north side of the York Fairgrounds.

DougDaG - that was some crash.

Catching a bit of Holiday Affair on TCM. Lionel train opens the movie. Pretty spectacular scenery.

Have a great day tomorrow all!

Regards, Roy

Good evening all,

"My" soccer girls got beat 4-0 tonight.  A totally horrible call turned a close 1-0 game into a 2-0  deficit just before halftime and the kids never recovered in the second half on the way to a 4-0 defeat.   Losing 7 wonderful seniors who deserved a better end to their careers.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Evening all,

Fighting a cold today...probably the first one I've had since I quit smoking.  Glad I stayed at home this week.  Hope everyone going to York has a safe trip.  Happy hunting!

Doug:  The K-Line boxes I have don't mention electro couplers either so these F7's must be identical to the ones in your link.  Once I repaired the tether I discovered that punching the rear coupler button opens the front....so it appears they attached the CC to the rear coupler port on the board and were running the set in reverse all along.  Oddly, they never switched out the engineer and fireman into the front facing cab.  I'll have to do that once I go back in and tidy things up.  For now the pair are happily pulling my set of MTH streamlined CP cars with everything working as it should.

Feel better Bruce - nice work on the F7.  DougNottaGrump - wow man, that was a huge crash!  Mike - so glad to see you posting :)  Just catching up after about a week of this and that.  Nice chat with RT and SJ tonight.  I made a new video and it features a certain item you guys might want to check out.  I made this video like 3 times now, because I kept stupidly showing boxes with labels on them that had my full name and address etc - wow, bad goof!  Glad I caught it tho.  Chief - Franky has a nice set of wheels there for sure man.  Is that Round the Clock place the diner where a bunch of us met 2 years ago at York, when I was there with SJ and Charlie and George?

Hello all

Back up at work for the week. We are slowly shifting into the observing season. Got lots of rain in the Ol' Pueblo last couple of days. Still in the clouds up here. A balmy 37 F outside.

Mike - good to see you posting again. A few years back I went thru some BS/BP issues. Found a lot of support here. Even chatted w/ one guy who is a cardiologist. Gave me some good info.

Chief - get well. Hope the trip to Gettysburg goes better for you than it did for your ancestors...Whistling

(bought a copy of the movie Gettysburg recently. Now I want a replica Enfield someday...)

Don - is the reunion the NamJam in Tucson? I think we will have some of the Corvair club there for the car show.

Bypassed the original fuel pump on the 4dr '65 Corvair yesterday as it was leaking. These things tend not to last long w/ the engine heat. Just running the electric now. May help w/ the hot starting as well. We did a quick setup w/ stuff on hand, but I have some ideas to improve it some.

Woodworking continues on the 1924 Brill trolley. Working on coming up w/ a frame repair from past accidents. Have ridden the new modern streetcar several times now. Very nice and is apparently doing well.

Not much new model train stuff to tell, but did run the Lionel 0-8-0 not too long ago. Like that engine. Reminds me of the 2-8-0 #93 on the Nevada Northern in appearance. Would like to find a WBB 4-6-0 someday to match the #40, but they are a little out of my price range at this point. Still need to buy more parts for the Corvan:)

Morning all.  Sunny and cool.  Off to the farms east.  Back dark 30.  Carrying more acorns to store in the barrels.  Check and see if the ones Fred dumped under feeders are gone.  Deer there may be confused and scratch their heads at, "What is this?"

Have a good one.
