HelloThere
Just finished last Saturdays project. I replaced 2 valves and repaired a bad solder joint on the boiler piping. Killing time now just to make sure I didn't start a fire with the torch. One of the valves was close a joist. Now I can build fire. This is the latest I've ever gone with out one. Gonna need it for the weekend.
Last hill climb of the season on Sunday. Grandson ended up 2nd in points this year at the Drags. Not bad considering he missed a race to play baseball
Roy and John. we gonna do Round The Clock again?
Off t Check for smoke and go to bed.
Gotta check on 2 jobs in the morning and niece gets hitched at 1pm tomorrow.
Doug.....If ya run into Laz some where let hin know he's missed
Prayers for those In need

Kev,
Thanks for the compliment, but I could NEVER take over for RI Jack. I to miss him him, his posts were very comical and truly enjoyable. Honestly, the reason I posted as I did was that I was thinking when I have posted it seems everything is "all about me". Should try and be more of a conversationalist. So I had two screens open one to post on, the other to review what others have posted. Was working well, then I got to your post and SJ's posts, pretty much one liners about weather. Now what in the world was I going to say to that. (And my wife said dinner ready), So I took the easy way out.
Now to try and correct.....
SJ, Just echoing what you are already aware of. I'm sure the weather will be changing very quickly now. True fall will definitely be in place before Halloween. Just hope its not as severe as last years.
Kev, Chris is trying to decide on a Silverado. He definitely wants one, but concerned about the payments and related costs. With his job he could afford it. But I'm trying to convince him that with new car interest rate, finance as much as you can. Leave your nest egg alone and keep adding to it. Then if you wanted to in a couple of years pay it off. Normally I wouldn't recommend this to someone that young, but he is extremely conservative when it comes to money.
Banks, Glad you didn't start a fire, whew!! Need some pictures posted with your grandson and his bike. If you see Roy and John at Round the Clock, ask John what he and I had said to the waitress when I met him there. Finally,, and most importantly best wished for the wedding.
Mike, Trace Adkins -- that had to be a good show!
Off to watch Hawaii 5 0, Blue Bloods and call it a day.
Don
Back home. Raining. Got stoned on codeine. Not really but had to take second dose. Can't win it seems.
Now Shake and Bake was in Nam. Agent Orange does bad things to Vets. One is you lose your mind.
Thanks guys for letting me start this POT early [I saw that SJ and Kev].
Yes, Buckeye needs to get a second job. Maybe an air traffic controller at O'Hare.
Brutus, tell Char I need to heed my own advice and slow down and get well [which I have lately]. Proud of her and her fight.
Guess we are going to start getting those Un-American sport reports again. Love you Mike. Glad you are back.
Fife and Brent, I will be in Gettysburg the weekend of the York Train meet. Pam says I can go visit the gang [have to get permission ]. Probably not. Its her planned vacation. She gives up a lot for my schedule.
Off to bed if I can sleep.

Today is a busy day. Lots of chores to do. Some paperwork to do. Playoff baseball games on TV. Lunch and a nap.
Y'all have a great Saturday.
Chuck

Have a good one.

OCT 4th Got up to 36 degrees and sleet. It is now 37 with drizzle. What can you say to that??
Don I am thinking that is the way Jack must of done it too. Two windows open at once.
Tell Chris, I like my Silverado a lot. Mine is a 1500 Z71 extended cab with the All Star Package. It gets 17 to 18 around here and 20 mpg on the road. Much better than my old Dakota. Mine is a 2011 already 3 years old. I have heard the 2014s have the most recalls of any new vehicle. I don't like getting a first year of anything for that reason. Kind of like to let them figure out what they missed first. But the 2014s sure are nice. I did get an e-mail from Jack about 6 months ago and he was doing fine.
Got to make something to eat.
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin

SJ -- Without question the most important type of post, knowing everyone got up in the morning.
Its always interesting to see what is going on with everyone else, but that is secondary. (Watch me tick someone off saying the information they post is not important, don't mean too.)
Need to get the day started, don't know what I'm going to do yet, but need to get started. Later
Good morning all,
Late start today. Took a walk in the park and breakfast is just getting started at 10:30AM. Guess you could call it brunch.
Don, I too am guilty of too much talk of myself but thankfully you all listen when I need you.
Had a call from my friend who wants to eat out all the time yesterday. Was trying to get the answering machine to get it but my son picked it up so I was stuck and had to talk to him. Of course he wanted to make a new time to eat out. I handled it badly. Just said no without a whole lot of explanation. Will just have to be more honest and tell him how I really feel.
Don, nice job on getting the Chief's stuff running. Hope he feels better soon. Might see you at the train meet if I can make it. I hope so.
later,

Evenin' boys. Fifepup & I were captains of Commerce today, Made 80+ on an impromptu yard sale. Was a bit of a too, as neighbors up the street put up all these pretty signs for their yardsale... Either way, got to put my junk in someone else's trunk. Cards tonight with my parrot-head buddies.
Chief - Awe, but I wanted to ask Pam personally if I could bring fifemax with me when I invade Rolesville...
dbaker- Fifedom will have a Wild, Wonderful look to it next year.
anjdevil - GF ? Red helmet run ? Mehbee I should re-read your post....
dbaker48 Need to get the day started, don't know what I'm going to do yet, but need to get started. Later
Like I said, Agent Orange.
Evening all,
With the trip to Hershey cancelled I worried unnecessarily about where to spend some cash. Well, when one door closes another trap door opens. There was a train show today in Brampton that I wasn't aware of until last night. Picked up a set of lightly used K-Line F3's with TMCC in Canadian Pacific garb, a Lionel NIB 0-4-0 reissue of a PW design, Lionel coal loader and coal ramp plus some odds and ends.
Don, might the engines drivetrain or linkage be binding ever so slightly somehow? More of a common problem with steam locos though. Only TMCC issue I've had was with one Atlas F unit that had 2 speeds, dead slow and flat out.
Was gonna comment on the, quote, "put my junk in somebody elses trunk" statement...but then this is a family friendly forum
Bruce
Good morning all
A gloomy 45 degrees
Probably be Lions football and a nap on today's menu.
WTG Mike! Congrats theres the numbers you need. Morning all yesterday the Mrs.RT and I went and took a Caboose trainride. it was enjoyable. they also have a small museum there also. Plate Rail - My freudian slip was showing...
Hudson - Is fishing season over for you?
rt - Chessie caboose ride; I'm a little jealous.
sirjames - How are the Tigers fans handling things...?
Good Morning!
Ended up sorting documentation yesterday. Asked the insurance company for a copy of the medical records from my accident. It arrived this week and talk about thorough! At least 4 reams of paper. Went through and sorted it out to were I understand it. The hospital bill (only hospital) for the 1st surgery was $200k. So I'm sure that I am definitely worth more dead than alive! My leg is certainly worth over $1 million.
Then was browsing around on the computer, came across some info that went back to the time in Nam. Ended up finding a website for the base, and made contact with 3 guys I worked with. And, even had a conversation regarding a friend that didn't come back, and between us filled in a LOT of blanks regarding his situation.
Kay, saw a reminder I had for a train show today, so she offered to take me there! Don't need anything, but will be a fun outing, might even see SPRay.
Kev, Chris and I had gone and looked at the Silverado's about a month ago, after we had discussed what we were interested in and the salesman showed it to us. He told us he couldn't sell us one because everything they had was on recall. I was shocked!
Fife, Congrats on the yard sale, am sure your neighbors appreciated the "commission" you gave them.
Bruce, I really think your on to something. It does make sense. Since it is a diesel I don't have any linkage binding. But could be an alignment issue.
RT, Enjoyed the picture of the Cresent and cabbabose. Had to have been a good time!
Work on the Chief's engines has been going well. I did have to remove one of the internal lights. (It wasn't working anyway.) The socket for the bulb was just getting in the way when I tried to lower the shell. Since it doesn't fit all the way down to the chassis, at least I wanted it to be level. Without the light it now opens up the opportunity for a "Cab Forward Diesel", just a matter of how the lights are plugged in. And that minor change will make the engine just that more rare. After I get back from the train show I will try to get some pics of his engine and post them tomorrow.
Later, you all have a great day, and Stay Healthy !!!
Morning all. Almost noon. Slept late for a change. Was good. Then Wifey cooked breakfast [for a change, usually me if any done]. Finished DVR'd Hell on Wheels and new Stalker.
Yesterday, watched Old Miss beat Alabama and then Auburn crush LSU. Two good games. Usually not around to watch college football [busy outside or something].
Hope all have a great week.

Just got a round trip ticket to LA. Packing bone saw from deer dressing kit.
Sake and Bake. Chris will have to move out if he gets a new truck. No where to park it. Drive will be full. [Can't park on the street in Cerritos ]

Evening folks,
Boy O boy has fall arrived! I believe it dropped below 40 F last night and will probably repeat that tonight. I'm not looking forward to winter...not if it turns out to be anything like last year.
Spent some quality time with trains repairs. The K-Line CP F3's turned out to be F7's and their conventional control ( was told that by the seller ) turned out to be TMCC! I will need to look up a schematic since it seems the 9V battery and it's harness have been removed...the battery holder remains. Replaced 2 visibly bad capacitors in the rear unit but still can't seem to get running lights to it in reverse. I've got direction, horn, bell and all 4 motor control but no talk, no rear lights and no rear coupler operation.
About 8 cheap switch controllers I bought yesterday gave me a wealth of much needed bayonet and screw in bulbs. It's tough finding those 18 volt types without paying dealer prices.
Good afternoon all,
Went to TTOS train meet today and had a nice visit with Don and Kay. My friends from the Thursday group were there too. Saw a proto 1 MTH K4 on a table for $290. Seemed like a fair price but didn't want it that bad. I already had one before and sold it.
Going out to eat tonight. Too hot to cook.
Drove beside part of the Gold Line light rail extension on the way home. Track all the way to end of line in Azusa will be finished on October18th and they will have a last spike, er rail connector ceremony. They say they will start running test trains next month. However, service not expected until next Fall.
Hi all.
No train news today!
I hate to do this but this first part of this post is a cut and paste form the other side. Just too much going on to do it all fresh,
"Been busy the last two days, Did a trans refresh (oil, filter and pan clean out) yesterday on a 2000 Silverado 2500 Z71 and worked today on the chimney corners. Now to stain everything before the install, but getting late in the year so they may sit till spring because things look to be in fast forward to winter here. Did leaves all morning before Brian and Mark showed to work on the project. The guys left about an 3:00 PM so I could breath. I don't know who won the NASCAR race but will see later."
So from here now I have got to get the rest of the work done on the wood work tomorrow.
I am shocked to hear Don they would not sell you one and then just do the work later. It must be worse than I have been told. Why I like to let them rest a year before I dive into an new model. Just drive them to market ready or not.
Bruce, Liking what I see you have posted on SPF. You seem to be working the projects head on.
RT caught up with you over there!
Any of you Cal guys by Fontana?? The son may be taking a job out there, I sure don't want to see him go so far away but it sounds like something he should do. Like he said when the big one comes he will fall in the crack not the Pacific Ocean.
Good Evening,
Didn't get a lot done today but sure enjoyed it! Kay asked if I wanted to go to train meet, well.....sure! So off we went. (Riding shotgun all the time sure can be concerning.) Anyway we got to the location about 30 miles away. Went through all the displays, saw some interesting items. However those that I could afford, I didn't have space for. So didn't buy anything. Then ran into a friend of Ray's (Larry), who use to run trains at Knotts. He also worked at the museum in Union Illinois. Shortly, Ray arrived. We had just sat down for lunch and had a great visit. Heck, one of the vendors even offered to buy me lunch when the cast comes off.
Then came home had a nap, and checked out Facebook, wow sure don't know what I'm getting into. But, in the short time I've messed with it I have made contact with 3 people I haven't been in contact with since Nam. Been invited to a reunion in Tucson next weekend. Just have to cautiously proceed, a lot for an old guy to absorb.
Kev, Chris and I were looking at the truck in June. The sales rep said that their inventory had NOT been upgraded with the recalls yet. That sold ones had current priority. But, I'm sure IF we would have pursued it with him, we would have had immediate priority. And anyway I wanted to find out more about the recalls, and had some real concerns about that model year immediately. (Even minor issues are indicative of either some issues with the manufacturing process, be it Chevy or vendors, or quality compliance concerns.) So currently issue is in a holding pattern. The company he is at has a fleet of 4 or 5 various pickups of the 2500 class, and one is available to him. He tried to convince them to rent the truck on a daily basis from him. And he would purchase it and rent it back to them. Oh yeah, Chief, when a truck shows up, Chris plans on giving his Honda to a friend.
Bruce, Good luck finding a schematic or even a wire list for TMCC. I haven't been able to find one.
Kev, Regarding Fontana.... Former site of Kaiser steel mill, (was located in Fontana to be out of range of any Japanese ships during WWII), currently home to NASCAR track. At the foot or bottom of Cajon Pass. Weather is HOT, and when it is not hot, it is WINDY and HOT. Housing is relatively lower cost in consideration of the rest of LA basin. Did I mention it is hot and windy? It is ! He is close to the San Andreas fault probably about 15 miles or less. I'm sure he will do well though.
Take care all and Stay Healthy !!
Thanks Kev. There's one guarantee when you buy at the swap meet....you usually bring home more work than you bargained for. It's all fun though. Here's the evenings project. Started to add some handrails and painted all of them on one of the k-line F7's. About the only thing I find incorrect about them is that CP doesn't seem to have owned any F7's....FP7's yes but no F7's. Not to worry....my passengers can go without steam heat.

Evening all!
Banks - yes. RoC Friday. I think we try to meet there about 7:30? LAZ, SJ, Charlie, John?
Another busy end of the week and weekend. Had some neighbor get-togethers and an Octoberfest party Sat night. Lots of work around the house.
Jury duty tomorrow. Have to drive downtown. Ugh.
Hope all have a great day tomorrow.
Regards, Roy
Don,
It looks like I'll need to peek inside another TMCC equipped engine to copy from. Lord knows i don't want to plug 9 volts into some place where it's not wanted. The F in F unit would stand for Fried!
Loads of time for tinkering though...and if all else fails then go with ERR.
