I think Fox cleaned up last night. They forced CBS into a rerun of CSI instead of the regularly scheduled CSI New York. It was like they knew where their audience was.[swg] Watching the game.

It's been said that it over till the fat lady sings. Well, she sure sang last night.
Excuse me while I get back to eating some more "humble pie"!! Good luck, Sox, you've earned it! Jon

It's 1967 all over again. Let's hope the curse is put to rest this year - and I am a native Missourian(always hated the Cards).

Must be from K.C to hate the Cards. They did great and owned The Rocket.
All you Red Sox fans, let the fun begin. Congrats on your team's win, and we shall see you Saturday.

P.S. Cards have beat the Sox in 2 World Series. :)
Let's keep that tradition alive.

Well, maybe three's a charm. Time to break the habit. The last time the Cards were in the World Series in 87 guess who beat em. This is going to be good.[:D]

Think of the long-term consequences, first the past and then the future.

For the past, a generation or more of Bostonians have been born, growed up and died without ever seeing their beloved team will the series.

And now for the present and future:

Sox fans are happy now, but when it's over they will be situated smack in the middle of the horns of a dilemma.

If they beat the Cards, then the next time they lose a playoff or series, they won't have the Bambino curse to blame.

OTOH, if they lose, fans will continue living in their 86-year-funk.

Dead Man Pitching

NEW YORK (AP) — Somewhere on a slab in Boston is a citizen of Red Sox Nation who actually gave his body to the cause.

With the team's future increasingly dependent on Curt Schilling's (search) right leg, doctors decided to try an apparently unprecedented procedure to keep a tendon from slipping around in his ankle. But first, they wanted to test it out.

So they used a cadaver. No way to know if it was a Red Sox (search) fan.

"We were going to try to do everything we could to try to stabilize the tendon," Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein said Wednesday night before Game 7 of the AL championship series. "We were only going to do it as a last-ditch effort."

The Red Sox wound up winning the playoffs Wednesday night against their rivals, the New York Yankees (search), and will head to the World Series for the first time since 1986. The Boston team hasn't won the baseball championship since 1918.

Schilling hurt the ankle near the end of the regular season and tried to pitch with the injury for Game 1 of the playoff series against the Yankees. Unable to push off the mound with full force, he allowed six runs in three innings — his worst postseason performance since 1993.

The Red Sox lost the game 10-7 and went on to fall behind 3-0 in the best-of-seven series. They won the next two to stay alive in the series, but they used every available pitcher in the process and found themselves needing Schilling again.

The Red Sox training staff thought of various ways to keep the tendon in place. Special high-top shoes didn't work, and they hit upon the idea of sewing skin in Schilling's leg to the tissue underneath, creating a wall that would keep the tendon in place.

"It seems extreme. We couldn't find a case of it ever being done before," Epstein said. "It was the best way to allow him to have his normal mechanics."

Schilling had three stitches put in at about 2 p.m. on Monday, about 90 minutes before he tested his ankle on the bullpen mound in Fenway Park (search).

"If it didn't work, he's in the same situation he was before," manager Terry Francona said. "We went out to the bullpen, he did pretty well without it. ... Schill kind of bought off on it, and they did it a day early to see if he could get used to it and let him get comfortable with it. And it certainly seemed to do the trick."

Although there was some fluid and blood leaking through Schilling's sock on Tuesday night, Epstein could see after the first pitch that Schilling was throwing like normal.

The sutures were taken out after the game to avoid infection; if Schilling pitches again, they would be put back in. Epstein said there was no problem repeating the procedure a couple of more times.

"We only have one more series," he said. "People think it's reasonable to do it a couple more times."

I found this news story--it explains the blood on Schillings sock. Ewwwwww, talk about taking one for the team.[swg]

Nah, I just think that everyone is in shock that the Sox have taken 7 in a row. We lost all the Yankee fans 3 games ago. The way this series is going, it almost anticlimactic. Perhaps people are simply speechless.[swg]

I was very disappointed that the Cards didn't put up a better fight. Would have preferred seeing the Sox win in the 7th game, score tied in ninth. However, the cardiac units would have had a busy night.

The game was sort of ho-hum and predictable.

Maybe they can agree to do the series over again? Just to be certain that the curse has lifted.

For all you Dead Sox fans-

Remember this, even if the Yankees stopped winning the World Series (they have won 26) and the Red Sox won them at their current pace (6 in 101 years)
they wouldn't catch up to the Yanks for 437 YEARS!!!!
So hold on to the memories of this one, it's gonna be awhile for another.

Okay, time for my last post over here. I thought I ought to come back for a wrap up as I have a few posts scattered in the thread.

When you've waited all your life for a World Series win, the memories of this one will be very sweet indeed. Even if they never win another in the years I have left, at least I will have this one, finally.

Thank you, Red Sox.

Regards

Ed

Hey guys I'm back on line again. RED SOX #1 ya baby!!! What a bummer started this topic and didn't get to finish with celebration of the Red Sox winning the world series. Didn't get to go the parade because I had to move that weekend, but everybody I know went and said it was insaine. If you ask me THE BABE can finally rest in peace. I think we won the world series because the curse was broken do to THE BABE's loss of a poker game in heaven. The Red Sox will have the honor of raising the world series banner while playing the Yankees aha Arod!! Al

Here's something that's both interesting and coincidental. On Monday, I won a 1950's/60's battery operated train set on ebay that was made in France by a company called Bambino! What are the odds that I should find this train set on ebay and win it just after the Red Sox won and beat The Curse of the Bambino? I had never heard of these trains until finding this set. Perhaps the Red Sox lost the curse and it got passed to me through this train set. Hopefully not! I'll certainly always remember the Red Sox winning the World Series when I think of this train, though.

Different color Sox are number 1. Lots of black-and-white walking the streets of Chicago this week. So happy to have beat the Cubs to the Series... Not having to say 'wait'll next year' is a thrill. Still, 46 years between Series is a loooong time...

Let me guess - I'm the only Rockies fan on the forum! What a surprise! About this time of year, I'm glad to see the Broncos back on the field so I can hold my head high again. I'm another guy that likes to have a game on while I'm working with the Flyers on my layout. Having a beer once in awhile isn't unheard of either, though it's usully a diet pop. We all do this for enjoyment, right? Ohterwise it's WORK!!
