Well it's probably a foregone conclusion that the Red Sox are doomed (given the power of "The Curse") but it would be nice to see them make a fight of it. Folding right away kind of takes the sting out of rooting for them. It's not painful enough, kind of like executing a killer quickly instead of letting him twist in the wind a while. My take is that they'll win one or two, enough to take the series back to New York, and to get our hopes up just a bit. Then, once the hook is set. they'll collapse like usual.

Heck, if I don't get enough atonement out of watching those suckers lose, I might even have to go to church and do pennance.

When I lived up in the northeast I really enjoyed riding the subway in New York. I was fortunate and never had a bad experience, but I suppose things have changed in the years I've been away. I assume it's still fine to ride anywhere at a decent hour, but there are some lines I probably wouldn't want to be on after midnight.

Regards

Ed

Get out the shovels, boys. I think it will take a lot of digging to bury this [xx(] team.
I think I hear the fat lady getting ready to sing.[:(]

Hmmm...now where did I leave it? I was shaving some insulation off the back side of the mountain...then I trimmed some rock facings for around the tunnel and had to clean that up...

Ah Yes! I left it in the corner of the train room!

Honey! We can watch Game 4 now! I found my broom!

I take that back, it was painful enough watching them last night.

Okay, I predict they'll bounce back and win today. Then fold tomorrow, and save themselves the trip back from New York.

Is it too early to start saying "Wait until next year!"?

Oh Ed, I would say I was sorry, but we all expected this sooner or later. I guess it's just sooner. Spring TRAINING opens in just over 4 months, and with no hockey, that can only mean one thing.

TRAIN SEASON!!!!

[swg]

Well Jon, at least someone's happy. The rest of us are reaching for mops, to soak up all the tears.[swg]

Nice win, they showed a lot of grit in sticking it out. The tieing run in the bottom of the 9th was really great.

Put away the brooms, guys, no sweep.

Okay, so they'll still probably not win the series from the yankees, but at least they didn't just roll over and fold their tents. Outside chance they could win another at home this afternoon. Leave the fans with a win to remember the season by.

I assume they're flying back and forth between Boston and New York, althought it would occur to me that arranging for a private train would be more convenient.

Thought I'd made my last post over here on Classic Toy Trains, but I had to stop in once more since this thread keeps on going.

I was amazed last night. Over all these years I've been continually amazed by the Red Sox, but usually in a negative sense. I was ready for Foulke to serve up a home run to that last batter last night but he came through in the clutch.

Well, boys, we don't have to win four straight from the Yankees. It's now a one game playoff. We just have to win today's game.

One thing I wasn't sure of (since we get the play-by-play in Spanish down here) was why they brought out the riot police in the 9th inning. Was it to protect the umpires or just avoid any problems with crowd unrest after the game?

Og course the Red Sox are concentrating so much on beating the Yankees that even if they win and go on to the series they'll probably be easy meat for whoever they play there.

"Reverse the Curse"

(By the way, since I've been dropping in here I've looked at some of the stuff you guys do with your trains, you've got some pretty neat stuff. Congrats.)

Regards

Ed

Thanks Ed, when it comes to trains over here, we aren't Horribly Oversized, we're Outrageous!!! We're so bad we even throw in an extra rail.

To my 3 rail friends, my buddy Ed is in Nearsighted scale, but we shouldn't hold that against him. Red Sox fans come in all sizes.[swg]

By the way Ed, we're in violation of the Brunton rule again, with this topic. I think we're safe though, as CTT falls outside his jurisdiction.[;)]

The Red Sox, and the Red Sox Fans have earned my respect, even if they don't win tonight! Like the little engine that "thought he could", this is the team that just won't give up. And those fans are really keeping the faith! They deserve a win.

They really do deserve this. It's like they lulled the Yankees into a false sense of security, by spotting them the first 3 games. I can't tell if this strategy is incredibly brilliant or incredibly stupid, but it seems to be working. The Yankees hold a lot of records, but if they lose tonight, they will set one of a more dubious nature. The first team ever to be up 3 - 0 and come back to lose the series. OUCH.[:0][B)][;)]

Winning tonight might actually reverse the curse!!!! Series MVP David Ortiz (former Twin, thank you very much).[:D]

WOW!

As predicted David Ortiz wins the series MVP. It wasn't really that insightful of a prediction. All the Sox had to do was win the game, the votes were already in.[swg]
