Another Red Sox fan eh? Bergie is one, too. Me, I'm a Twins fan of course, so I hate the Yankees almost as much as you do.

So, do you believe in the curse?[swg]

QUOTE: So, do you believe in the curse?

Obviously asked by someone who is not a citizen of Red Sox Nation!!!

Of course the curse exists. The fact that the Red Sox won the ALDS is clear evidence of that. Any old loser of a team could lay down and not make it to the playoffs. Any ordinary team could give up after making the wild card berth, figuring they had done their best. But it takes a truly cursed team to bring their fans to the brink of extasy year after year (*) only to let them down at the crucial moment. They're just setting the trap again, getting our hopes up.

You'll see. The Red Sox may even go on to win the pennant. They could go to game 7 of the series. But until they dig up the bones of the Babe and apologize, they will not win "The Big One".

Been here before, been disillusioned before.

Regards

Ed (making a rare appearance here on CTT at the invitation of Big_Boy)

(*) Okay, so the Red Sox don't bring us to the brink of extasy year after year, some years they just lay down right after the All Star Game. It makes for better copy written this way.

Good to see you over here Ed, thanks for stopping by.

Well, the Twins look to be repeating last year's performance, so guess who the Sox will be playing?

It's true, I don't live in Red Sox Nation, I live on a small island just off the coast. When the situation warrants, I cross over to the mainland. One more Twins loss, and I'll be on the ferry.[swg]

John, it's very difficult to maintain a completely "one track mind". If it helps any we could liken the rivalry between the Yankees and the Red Sox to that of Lionel and MTH.

Speaking of MTH, if you'll please open your 2004 catalog to page 62 and 63, you will find that baseball and trains do indeed seem to mix. Not on my layout though.[swg]

Didn't K-line once make a model of Yankee's stadium????

I see trains as a little more intellectual pursuit than guzzling a 12-pack and watching a ball game.

Actually I enjoy having the ballgame on in the background while working on my layout. By the way, I hate beer.[swg]

Very possible. Of course the Yankees could knock them off in the LCS, or the Cardinals could fail to win the pennant. But you're dead on in that the Red Sox won't win the series this year!

(btw, my condolences to Big_Boy. The Twins did a good impersonation of the Red Sox. Think you guys need a new manager.)

Haven't you all heard? The curse has been broken! During one of the Yankee/Sox series at Fenway this summer, a foul ball line-drive hit a kid in the mouth sitting in the third-base box seats. The kid lives in Milton, MA in the same house Babe lived in when pitching for the Sox.

By the way, the kid has a couple of teeth knocked out. Ya gotta be aware when sitting in "the good" seats!

Jon [8D]

Yankees/Red Sox for the American League pennant! This will be good!

Sorry Daan, baseball is pretty much an American game which has found it's way into the Latin American countries and Japan.

The Red Sox are the pro team from Boston. The rivalry between them and the New York Yankees is long and intense. The running joke is that Boston hasn't won the championship since 1919. Their futility is comical, and tragic.

Babe Ruth was a great player back in the teens, 20's and 30's, and for a long time he held a number of baseball records. One of his nicknames was the Bambino. He started his career with Boston, but was traded to the Yankees, in I believe 1920, and Boston has never won it all since.

Red Sox fans believe there is a curse. The curse of the Bambino.

Does this conversation make more sense now?[:D]

One other detail, the Yankees have the most championships of any sports team in any sport here in the US. I'm not sure about the rest of the world.

So, if you like underdogs we can make you a Red Sox fan. They need all the help they can get.[swg]

No Ed, the Twin"s manager is fine, the level of talent on the field was suspect from day one, in my mind. They won an easy division, big deal. I was never very enthusiastic about this year's team. I have had season tickets since 1988, and this year passed on my option for the playoffs. Too much money and too little hope.

Their problem was no depth or consistancy in pitching, and not very solid hitting. Defense was solid as always.

I would say they have a long way to go before they reach the level of the Red Sox. I was sitting in row 3 off first base in 1991 when Jack Morris (hometown hero) went 10 innings to win it all. Not too many Sox fans left alive who can say that.[}:)][;)]

On a happier note, I have landed on the shores of Red Sox Nation, and received my GREEN CARD.[:p][:D] Work permit in hand, I will help you try to tear down the house that Ruth built. We can only hope!!![swg]

The only reason we won't hold that against you is because, everyone here loves trains. That's our common bond.[^]

When it comes to baseball...

Yankees Suck, Yankees Suck, Yankees Suck, Yankees Suck......[:0][swg]

Last night we (Big Girl, my kids and I) went out to dinner with my dad and his wife, my sister and her husband and their kids. Ten of us in all, the occasion, my son's 12th birthday. We ended up going to this sports bar that has good food. Of course the game was on, and we watched.

My step mother is a real New Yorker, she grew up there. It's true what they say, there really is ONE IN EVERY CROWD!!!![}:)][:0][:p][;)] She was trying to be nice when the Yankees tied it up, but we all knew it was over.

We actually have a nicer time talking politics. A subject on which we ALL agree.[:0][swg]

Jon, is that the one where they tried to get the piano out of the lake?

I think this curse is bigger than a kid from the same town losing a couple of teeth at a game.

I think you'll have plenty to talk about on your Monday morning show.[swg]

One sport at a time please Scratch. I did however love how, at a Patriot's victory rally, a spontaneous chant of Yankees Suck broke out.

Is learning that chant part of the kindergarten curriculum in the Boston Public schools????

...one Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. <pause> Now children, Yankees Suck, Yankees Suck....[swg]

Hey, no problem!!
[:-^] I love New York...[:-^] Just not the Yankees.

[:-^]I'll take Manhatten, the Bronx and Staten, Island too...[:-^]Give me the subways, the restaurants, the train stores, the museums and the Statue of Liberty.

[:-^]New York, New York's a toddelin' town, the Bronx are up and the Battery's down....[:-^] Actually, I've been to Yankee's Stadium, rode the subway there. It was Bobby Mercer day, the Bombers played the Tigers. We sat up in the rafters along the left field line. Cool place, feel the history.

Been to Fenway too, an even cooler place!!! Saw the Twins beat the Sox, back in 84, I think it was.

All of that is in the past now. Are you ready for some BASEBALL?????[swg]

GO CARDS!!!!!

they whiped up on the Dodgers last night. looks like they either get Atlanta or Houston. the bad thing is that the Cardinals dont do very well against either of them, but they have done better against Atlanta this year.
