ChiefEagles
Special concern and prayers for the plains states and especially Jon E in Iowa.  Weather person says storms and possible tornados intensifying.

Thanks Frank -- our weather has just been wet/windy/cold off and on for the last several weeks.  One year ago we had that really early spring, setting records, with no rain at all.  It truly was a drought that hit many farmers very hard, this year we can't shut the faucets off.  It finally warmed up for one week, it was dry and the farmers were working 24 hours a day trying to get seeds in the ground, for the most part they were successful but today when I drove into town there is a huge amount of ponding everywhere.

Sharyl and I have been working hard for several days trying to clean up the timber just south of our home, I put fresh chains on the chain saws yesterday so this morning I took the ones that needed sharpening into town as I always want to have fresh chains hanging up in my shop ready to go.  The shop owner stopped what he was doing and sharpened them for me immediately, the two mile trip from our home may turn into 14 miles if the DOT closes the bridge just north of town.  Huge log jams with the rising water are already causing problems and there was heavy rain all weekend north of us so it's headed our way.  Fortunately for us we live at the top of a high hill and will never be flooded.

Our problems are minimal when compared to Oklahoma, it's all about perspective.  We are fortunate.

Jon

Good afternoon.

Rained almost nonstop here. Let up every now and then, but was still heavy. Got more progress done on the P-38J, and picked up an ALCO RS-11 decorated for the Lehigh Valley. Also recieved that Lionel 6660 derrick car that I waited so paitently for.

Got a call from my father today saying that he had to make a bus run to Alexandria today after he finished his scheduled job. It was going to be a LONG day for him. He needed me to go down later and feed his dogs. He also said I should mow the grass. I told him I only mowed it a week ago (and I did, exactly seven days ago) and I'm not scheduled to mow it for another week (June 4th). He said no, it's too thick now. If I wait a week it's gonna be three times harder and it's gonna make a big mess with huge piles of clippings. Then he got that 'don't argue with me' tone in his voice and very flatly said 'DO IT'. So I went down and looked and he was right. Even another couple of days would have made it harder. It took me around three hours to knock out the whole yard. My niece came down and asked what the heck I was doing mowing a week ahead of the schedule she had imposed and I told her very simply 'Your grandfather told me to'. Nuff said. After all he lives there too. When I finished I went in the house and fed his dogs then just collapsed on the couch and watched the weather while I cooled down. Now the next 'scheduled' mowing day is June 11th. We all know what happens to the carefully laid plans of mice and men. With all that done I came back home. I'm feeling the aches and pains from running that tractor. Oh well. It gives me a little more money to play with. Little as it is that's more layout cash.

Quickie check in....

Replaced bulbs in instrument cluster (a few blown/dim) and replaced the completely blown out front speakers with new 3.5" Pioneers to match the head unit.  Sounds sweet....as money allows, I'll match the rears but right now they work pretty good.  I saw they were the MoPar Deluxe but I'm certain the Pioneers will be better.

And yes, it just stopped raining.

Off to nuke dinner...I have to see what I bought last night....

The temp is a wet 66

We had rain most of the day. Some places not too far from us had storms with trees down.  I don't know where today went but it's 7:47 pm and I missed my nap. The Pod. doc put a shot into my foot but it hasn't helped yet. X rays show Mr Arthur Itis has moved in. I'm thinkin Banilla with some chocolate syrup and peanuts..I will try and make the Tardis ride tonight, at least for awhile...S.J.

88 - That viaduct really is a nice fit in that space.  Good job.

Thanks for all the compliments on the bridge. I was REALLY struggling with how poorly the first edition turned out, and the more I contemplated redoing it I couldn't think of a way to do it right. When we had the bay window in the front of the house redone with PVC lumber last Fall and I saw how pliable the sheet material is I realized I had my answer... just needed time to get it done. Then Christmas came around and I needed to cut a wide diameter radius on a corner and found the router circle cutting tool I all just fell into place... except the time...

When the mountain is done, bridge put back in place, and the street lamps installed it is going to really make that area 'pop'.

Good evening all,

It is windy in SE Indiana and going to get hot.  RI52, you have a very intelligent daughter (bringing soccer balls to an event).  Went thru 2 more boxes in the attic.  Yard sale items all of them.  Got the other MTH catalogs today.  Nice looking GP40 based on one that runs thru town.  Kind of pricey and to get the cars to go with it would go far beyond my operating radius.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Had a busy day at work playing catch up. You would think I was irreplaceable!Hmm

Worked on a few projects at home - After I cleaned up the dog mess on the kitchen floor. Just about puked and I have a strong stomach.

Made it down to work on trains for a bit. Hung a new light. Ran the trains around a bit and then picked up all the track. Started laying down my Homasote 440 board. Noticed the floor seemed pretty damp so I kicked on the dehumidifier and called it a night.

Aloha. Grey and warming up. I managed to burn yesterday's supper on the grill. I think I had everything too hot - I am a horrible BBQer. Might storm later. I'll be thinking it is Monday all day. Nice win Kev

I cooked out the past two weekends. We had chicken and let me say I did excellent! I have a chargriller grill with a smoke box attachment. I only cook on charcoal and I love to smoke things. Brisket is my specialty.

Back from a trip to Michigan.  Took mom out shopping on Saturday - her first non-medical outing since her stroke about 18 months ago.  She really enjoyed it.

Lots of red on the weather radar to the northwest.  I know there are a couple of forum members that live in that area around Kansas City.  Hope they are hunkered down tonight.

My box of goodies from the Train Tender came while I was gone.  Parts to bring recent e-bay locomotive purchases up to snuff.  The Sound of Steam tender I picked up for cheap got here too.  I powered it up and got more of a buzz than a chuff out of it.  I've bumped into some references where the capacitors were replaced to restore the chuff sound that it should make.  It does not look like that bad of a job.  I'll do a little more research on this, 'cause I doubt that I'm the only one who has a Sound of Steam board that has a buzz instead of a chuff.

Back to work tomorrow to keep S.S. solvent.

Hello all

Back in the Ol' Pueblo. Nice to have a quiet day for a change.

Kev - yes, some times it 'sucks to work for the U', but it pays the bills anyway. You seem to have all the luck w/ engines. Coarse, I never ran the 1615 that much, plus exposed it to those pesky photons...Stick out tongue Hope you can find an e-unit on the cheap for it.

Got the speedo cable in today for the hardtop. Should be a nice project for this week.

Will also try and finish up the S-38C shortwave radio this week.

Back to New Mexico on Sunday, theoretically. I am supposed to drive a box truck to and from Socorro containing 18 rhodium plated panels. Is my job weird or what?

Good morning.

Not a bad time last night. Nothing to complain about yet nothing noteworthy to mention.

This morning is band practice and maybe some work on the P-38J. Not much to do with it now other than add some more decals, then it's done. Next will be the Mustang.

Good morning. It's 70° with 98% humidity. High of 88°. Chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.

Too much work in the heat yesterday. It caught up to me last night. I felt somewhat better around 10:30. I'm still quite sore. Don't have the monster headache now. Muscle aches are still making themselves felt. I'm sure others have things for me to do today. Think I'll crawl back into bed and those that don't like it can stop at the complaint department and take a number.

Aloha. Dodged all the rainstorms at home - the rest of the area got soaked. Nice TARDIS ride between the thunderheads with SJ and Brutus. Ray, that was the trip - stayed at the Sheraton too - can you believe it was 4 years ago?  RJ, I should go back to charcoal. Kev, it'll be interesting to see how it all works out.

Good morning! 73, going to the 80's with thunder storms in the forecast @ the Jersey Shore.

I took Mom for her PET scan and out to lunch yesterday. She is doing real well. Then I headed home and serviced a couple of my son's machines. I missed the Tardis last night for Doray was on Ebay bidding on some Longenberger Baskets and Depression Glass. I did score a 2055 Hudson and 2046 Tender on the Bay for my price over the weekend.

Rich, No rooms in Lakewood, NJ? That is probably because there are many displaced people from Sandy. My nephew is getting married next month in Toms River and the out of town guests are having a hard time also. I know of at least a half dozen families whose homes are not habitable and they are staying in Hotels / Motels. This area is nowhere near recovered eventhough our President and Govenor did their tour together yesterday. All that the news shows is the tourist areas. The water came from the Ocean, thru the Bay and did a number on the on the Bay and River front communities. I never had water in front of my house and the Saltwater did come past my house in the street and pushing debris on my front lawn. Thankfully no water made it to my basement. Houses were destroyed a block East of me, between water and falling trees.

SJ: I hope the foot gets better.

Jeffrey: I hope that you feel better.

Jake: Congrats on your scholastic achievements.

8n: Glad that your Mom had a nice day out. Jeff at the Train Tender is a great guy to deal with.

Brutus: I hope everyone gets well soon and i pray that Char does not come down with it. She deserves the break!

AF53: Ray, no boxes yet.

Have a Great Day!

John

Morning boys,

Sun is out but we had a strong rain last night before bedtime. Storm I will need to check the gauge to see how much. Daughter called last night because the tornado sirens were going off. So I told her to get off the phone and go under the stairs in the basement. Good thing was nothing happened.

Started reading another John Grisham book called the Associate. I hope it is a good one.

Well I am having my Cheerios and a banana then it is off to the dealer for the day.   The wifey is taking the day off to go to the Dentist and tomorrow is her last day  half day till school starts back up in August. She won't miss that one because they all go out after school is out.  So house arrest starts on Friday. Laugh

Bob, I got a new e-unit coming from Jeff the train tender. It has been sticking from the get go. It is strange I had cleaned the motor up and had it clean as a whistle and when I took it back apart the armature was a mess again with a black goo. Almost like the brushes were breaking down or something so I ordered them too. Hmm Never seen anything like it.

Doug, it will be interesting to see how this goes down. I don't plan on carrying, haven't this long, but think I should have the right if I want to. I also think it should be a state wide law not something where it is different in every town. I don't think that would work. JMHO Guess we will know by the 9th.It will be what it will be. I for one will be glad to see it off of the media.

Off to work,

 Have a good day.

The temp is a sunny 73.

Home from the grocery store, Chuck we were OUT of milk. She picked up $75.00 worth of other stuff along the way. The shot helped my foot, I would guess a 80% increase in my comfort level. Don't know how long it will last though. A couple of small twisters in yesterdays storms, mostly through farmland. And a downpour followed Charlie all the way home yesterday evening. No other plans for today except I have to make up for yesterdays missed nap Smile We have been to Hawaii twice, once Detroit to Chicago then direct. The other was Detroit to Ca.then to the islands. The split in the middle was a much more relaxing trip.

Jeffery I like the new pics. find some more...

Blueberryhill RR

Where is LAZ ???

Laz is in hiding hunting turkeys... or was is rabbits... or ducks... or bambis... or is he fishing???

I shot him an email, he is hunting turkeys, enjoying retirement, work in taking care of chores, and running his pup! I'm sure he'll be back when he slows down a bit.

Buckeye - is travelling our great railroads... he is stuck in PA in some small town called Donegal (high in the Allegheny Mountains).

DonBaker - is pushing cars around Knots... seems since he started 'volunteering' there he has gained quite a bit of strength! Laugh

I always wanted to 'retire' but Chief, Buckeye, and Laz have made me think twice... they seem to be busier in 'retirement' than when they were 'working'... guess the difference is they are doing what THEY want to do, not what someone else wants them to do.

----

I have decided that once Christina and Matthew are potty trained I am going to start volunteering one weekend per month (Saturday morning) at The Walkersville Southern Railroad http://wsrr.org/2013/. Only 15 minutes from home and will allow me to learn something about working on a railroad. Hopefully in a year or two.

I started a list of items I want to work on regarding the train garden. I'm hoping this will help me keep focused on certain areas and hopefully get a few areas completed.

Hoping to get down to the train room tonight. After looking at the pictures from the other day it appears I have some cleanup to do and may work on finishing a couple spots around the area of the new tunnel... I need to fill in the spot to the right of the hobo campfire (between the bridges and the stone wall), build a through girder bridge to span the river, and then put down some plaster cloth in a few areas. If I can get that all done tonight it would be nice.

That looks like fun, Brent. I am considering the same at the Illinois Railway Museum (http://irm.org).

Here's something neat about the guy who maintains the trains at the gigantic HO layout at the Museum of Science and Industry (that replaced the famous O gauge layout)

Good Afternoon! 81, breezy and SUNNY Down the Jersey Shore.

I cut and fertilized with weed and feed the front lawn. It is looking good. A friend of my daughter's stopped and asked me if I put down sod, for a few weeks ago it was a mess! On my way to Mom's in a little bit. She dropped something behind the refrigerator and she needs it. I will stay tonight, do a few more things for her tomorrow and then take her to dinner and come home Friday. Her place is nicer than mine.Hmm, I thought that I had 3 brothers.

Brent and Doug, I am planninmg on doing Vol work also. As soon as the doctor visits slow down with Mom. We have the Railroad at Allair State Park and I am looking forward to doing work at the TCA Museum and the Pa Museum in Strassburg. Somebody has to keep an eye on John F.

SJ: Glad the shot helped.

Have a Great Day!

Nothing outstanding happening here today, but I am reminded that it was exactly a year ago today that I was in the hospital Intensive Care ward, recovering from an emergency bypass.  Even after I returned home, the next month or so was unpleasant in varying degrees.

Today, though, I just returned from a 4-mile bike ride.  When I'm through typing this, I'll do some scheduled maintenance on my Lionel Reading F-M.  I feel great.  Sure beats lying in bed in a morphine haze, with plastic tubes hanging out of you!

Best wishes to all.

According to the news, yesterdays small twisters did destroy some homes and bldgs. Thankfully no loss of life. Most around the Flint area but not in the city. A fresh supply of Banilla and chocolate syrup waiting the thingy crew...S.J.

Evenin' boys.  A beautiful 81 in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Not much going on.  Had to recharge the yatchet's batteries.  The Durango apparently came with ants.  Oh, and a CSX train blew up nearby.

Good afternoon all,

Kind of warm here today probably around 90 this afternoon.  Went shopping this morning and picked up some cooler clothes.

Just when I was starting to get used to the great wall of China errected behind my house by my neighbor back there which he conned me into paying half for, he put up this gigantic tool shed right behind the wall and only a foot or so from the fence.  Kind of looks like an eye sore overlooking my pool.  I can't say anything because my shed on the other side of the yard is pretty close to the fence too.  It is a well built shed and painted nice, it is just rather large.  Hope he just stores stuff in it and does not make a shop where he hangs out right next to my pool.  I think I will plant the largest thing I can find on my side of the fence to try and tone down this thing.

Hope you guys in the flood areas are still afloat.  Too bad we can't take some of that rain off your hands.

good night all,

Ray

Hi guys.......my pc is in for some horsepower upgrades so I am stuck using my smart phone.  My car is at the dealership for a few things before the extended warranty expires in June.  Had my dead access keypad replaced......due to procrastination, that to do remained on my "to do" list the past year!  The wifey and I are awaiting the severe storms Charlie and SJ got......then the temps will be in the 90s through the weekend.  FIFE.......that train fiasco got quite the coverage up my way!  Gotta run.  Hope I don't get any storm damage and that there are no air conditioning snafus starting tomorrow.   JACK.

Did a whole bunch of nothing today. Well that's not quite true. I went down and put my fathers boat back in the boathouse. Not a big thing. It's just a little sixteen foot V-bottom Trimcraft. My nieces husband had pulled it out so he could put his boat in there temporally. There's room for both but he didn't my fathers old boat bumping against his clean shiny boat. He pulled his out today. You'd think he could have put the other one back in. Nope. I finally got tired of hearing my father bellyache about it so I went down and it off the concrete lake wall and used the mooring rope to pull in into the boathouse then tied it up. This evening my father and I went to his lady friends place and cooked dinner then the three of us had a very good meal. At one point I picked up her walking stick and was inspecting it very closely. It has a rose pedal pattern on it. She asked me what I was looking for and with a very straight face I said 'The volume control'. That landed both her and my father. She went and got her other cane. It has a butterfly print pattern on it and is even louder.

Other than that much of what I did today was watch movies. 'Operation Pacific', 'Air Force', 'Run Silent, Run Deep', 'Up Periscope (1959-James Garner)', 'Dive Bomber'.

Well that's pretty much it. Time to call it a day. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' boys.  A beautiful 81 in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Not much going on.  Had to recharge the yatchet's batteries.

Any excuse to spend more than 10 minutes by the water's edge... Just sitting on the dock of the bay...

The Durango apparently came with ants.

Oh, and a CSX train blew up nearby.

Meant to TXT you yesterday to see if you were called into action? Looked like one heck of a mess. Are they still blaming the dump truck driver?

Got down to the trainroom tonight... Thumbs Up

Kev - I took this shot for you and RJ. This shows how many times I reworked the benchwork and track plan before I finally settled on where I am now!

Had to build this little pad to support the abutement and the scenery. The plaster cloth will tamper down from here.

Built this little dandy tonight... just 2 hours. Used some 1/2 inch PVC sheet and 2 flexible girders from Scenery Express. The length fell right on the edges, which was 100% pure luck. Now all it needs is some flat black spray paint and it will be done.

Still need to build the 'pad' to behind the left abutement...
