According to USPS tracking my Varney F3B is in Shreveport as of 7:09pm. It should be here tomorrow, a whole day early. Then I'll have the answer to my big question. Is it plastic or metal? Well today wasn't a good day for me. Violent mood swings. There are many days where I get along with everyone. Then there are days when some things tick me off a bit. Then there are days like today when for seemingly no reason at all my temper just explodes and I'm just plain mad at everything and everyone for hours on end. It's not a good time to come knocking and certainly not a good time for a telemarketer to call. I wonder if that poor guy will ever be the same.Didn't get anything done on the layout today as I probably would have destroyed anything I touched. Watched a few movies today and got some sleep. That improved my mood some. One movie I deleted after only thirty minutes because it kept shooting into senseless flashbacks accompanied by very irritating and corny dialog. I hate flashbacks that come every few minutes. I hate corny dialog even more. Name of the movie was 'The Crowded Sky'.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

For the past hour we had a winged visitor IN our house...a bat. All three cats jut spent the entire time leaping, jumping, clicking, mewling and all else after this bat... I had to get my trusty squash racquet out and clobber the poor thing out of the air and into a little bag...and take the poor fellow outside...whereupon it flew around me then took off elsewhere....

70's and a mix of sun and rain today.
Some joker hung a poster showing a two lane DOWN HILL road in front of the treadmill at the hospital. I didn't make any of the medical machinery I was hooked up to expire with smoke or sparks, and they let me out of the hospital after the test was done, so my test results were not a complete disaster today. I imagine I'll hear from my doctor tomorrow or Monday with more information.
Got the new side rods on my #18640 4-6-2 steamer tonight. Runs a whole lot better. For what it is worth, the side rods on this one are functional, as the three drive axles are not geared together.
All for now.
We touched 90 today for the first time since August 31. I remember when I was a kid back in the 1950s when we didn't have air conditioning. Yesterday I dropped my car at the dealer to get a few thngs fixed before the extended warranty expires in 3 weeks, got a Chevy Tahoe as as courtesy car, only 5,100 miles on the odometer. Black with tinted glass and leather.....makes me look like I am a Secret Service agent or CIA. Any way, car was not finished yesterday or today. Maybe tomorrow. While the Tahoe is very nice, it is a tad large for my tastes, not as quick or as nimble as my SRX, would take some getting used to on a permanen basis, especially the ingress and egress, even with the running boards. Of course, the capacity for luggage an room for hauling stuff, plus seating capacity for 7-8 with the third row seating deployed, would make for a very versatile vehicle......could stash the wife in the third row so I wouldn't have to listen to her telling me how to drive. :-) JACK.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Good morning y'all from steamy-to-be Cape Ann Taxachusetts. 75 going up to 94 later today, the record for the day is 96. The heat wave with these temps to continue through Sunday. Grammy decided it was inappropriate for us to remainindoors and decided to have the little grandkids over for some good old fashioned Summer fun where the two of us acquire heat stroke and dehydration while the little ones run through the sprinkler and slither on the slip and slide. Off to perform dog duties. JACK
Good morning.
Had an awards ceremony last night. Got four awards. Not that BIG scholarship (Bennet Trust Scholarship), but I did get the CDK Perforating scholarship (for seniors who are going into an engineering field). Not big, but quite a bit bigger than the average scholarship. $3,000 lump sum, so it's still quite a bit. Also got the President's Education Award, Musical Excellence Award and American Association of University Women Award.
Today is graduation practice, some time to rest, then work. Also got the Mustang assembled yesterday. Look to get it painted during the weekend.

JAKE.......these scholarships you have been awarded were no gift nor an accident. One might conjecture that you are very smart and got them because ofit. A more accurate assessment would be that you took what God has given you and with some very hard work you earned these scholarships. In addition, you took on your extracurricular activities AND a job. These ethics will serve youwell in adulthood and in life. We are all proud of you. You paid the price and are reaping what you have sewn. JACK.
Good morning. It's 75° with 97% humidity. The high will be 88°.I think today I'll be doing some cleanup on the layout. I have to locate some things that are missing and I'm pretty sure they're under the pile of stuff in the work area. That's where I last saw them before things were shifted around.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a sunny 72 degrees. Going up to 88 today with sunshine.
Today is an easy day. It's gonna be a hot one. I think I will stay inside this afternoon and do some reading. Have lunch, and take a nice nap.
Indians have been doing better. Hope it keeps going.
Dining car has rolled in with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Good Morning! 86, 61% humidity and going into the 90's in Bayville, NJ.
Took the Duo for their walk this morning. The last month or so the 2 of them have been on good behavior. Both of them are just lounging out now. Today it is going to be a lazy one. Doray is going to the Ice Cream Shop to get caught up on a few things this morning then we will do lunch and a road trip to a winery. English muffin for breakfast.
Kev: Nice set up for spraying the weeds. That will save you a lot of work and time.
Chief: Safe trip to the Lake House. Enjoy! Catch a Trophy Striper. I have not been out yet.
RJ: Good luck with the leak in the basement.
BOC: I had to laugh about the bat. We had a similar situation last week with 2 wrens.
8n: Hoping for a good report.
Jack: The Tahoe is on my list when we replace the Explorer. The local Police Dept just got a couple and the complaint about them is that there is little room in the back seat especially when you have an alleged felon (being politically correct) cuffed in the back seat. They were spoiled with the Crown Vics all of those years.
Jake: That is quite an accomplishment. Jack said it all. Congrats and Good Luck.
AF53: Ray, Waiting for My Package Today.
Brutus, SJ: Bad timing for me and the Tardis.
Laz: Wherever you are enjoy!
Jeffrey: Like your junk yard.
Chuck: Pass the Cheerios. We ran out.
Have a Great Day!
John
Aloha from a grey and warmish northeastern Illinois. We keep dodging the storms and rain before sending them off to Charlie and Sir James. Hope to get to some yard work later though. Nice TARDIS ride with SJ and Brutus and Charlie too last night. Hope i get the TRDIS 13 license plate for the new car or Jedi 37 would be nice. Boy, those Tahoes look huge when you pull up along side one.BoC, glad you got the little fella out. Got another warning from our local DNR folks that many of our bats are rabid...

Sunny, windy, wet, .7" of rain over night and more this evening 80s today according to the weather guessers here in North Central IL.
Jake, I to think Jack summed it up well. Congrats.
RJ. He who dies with the most toys, wins! When you have property you got to have tools. At least that is what I tell the wife. You had better get those gutters draining away from the house.
8N. Sounds like you did good on the mill.
John, I open the fridge to find we are out of Milk, Pepsi and, No Cheerios.
Chief, Enjoy the lake house. Our Tick season is all but over now.
BOC, How did the Bat get in?? In the first place? We had neighbors once that had bats colonize between their fireplace chimney and their house wall. 100s of them.
Time to write some bills.
Later.

A sunny 78 this morning. Possible storms later. pretty much like yesterday. Beats snow any any any day. A trip to the bank, barber, and gas station this morning. Later granny wants to go to Dress Barn, I will wait in the car. After that I see a couple chili dogs in my future. Chuck I'm glad you had milk for your cheerios this morning.
LAST DAY of the month. The Chief is gone. Who's in charge to make the change?

Got the Varney F3B today. It's the plastic version. No problem as I can still use it. I have another on the way (City of San Francisco) that is all metal. I made sure I saw that in the item description. It should be here on or before the 5th.
V8 Dennis, my son got caught in one of those red light scams in L.A. a while back. He got stuck in an intersection when the light changed to red so since it is illegal to block the intersection he turned right. However, he did not see a small sign above that said no right turn so he got busted for that. He decided to go to court on it. He spent lots of time preparing his case, documented the corner with photos etc. showing how difficult the sign was to see. He wore his best clothes and was polite to all. However, he lost but all the dirt bags in the same court room got suspended fines that did not challenge their fines. Judge probably knew they had no money anyway. This whole operation was conducted by a few rookie cops looking to make a name for themselves. They set up this trap and handed out dozens of tickets at the same intersection. My son said they were very disrespectful to him in the court room and made sly remarks like you're going to lose before the case was even heard.
In our little town, I drive very carefully to avoid tickets. All these towns are hurting for revenue so they are looking for easy targets.
Story in paper today about woman killed in an attack by a pack of Pit Bull dogs. They were owned by some dirt bag who is growing pot in his house. Probably trained the dogs to keep people away from his house. The woman was just out for a walk on the sidewalk. He is being charged with murder since these same dogs attacked people before. Question is, why didn't the authorities get rid of the dogs the first time or arrest the owner.
Going into the 90's today.
later,

Got rid of my little friends with TERRO liquid ant killer. Small pool in a bottle cap, and so-long ants. Durango built in Michigan back in November, so may have been parked awhile. Wifey and I suspect we may have simply parked over a nest on the driveway, either way, problem solved.
88 - I have railfanned at the very spot many times. If trucker had stopped, there would not have been an accident. He's fortunate to be alive. Along with all the lookie-lews who had to get closer for a better look. I had just gone 10-42 when the incident occurred, and could see the beginnings of the mushroom cloud, as I hit 695. They tend not to call us back, due to $$$.
Ray and Dennis, It just don't pay to stand up straight anymore. I once got a parking ticket from the city of Chicago and I had never even been there. Spent more time and money trying to get it canceled than it would of cost to pay it and that is why they do it.
Speaking of towns who are hurting for revenue or counties for that matter. We got our prop tax bill today and it went up $538.96 over last years. Almost a 10% jump.
I got my 1615 parts from Jeff The Train Tender so I guess I will go work on that.
Fife, glad you got rid of the Ants.
Good Afternoon.
Doray had to go to the Ice Cream Shop so it will be dinner and a movie if she gets done early enough. We are thinking of going to see, "Now you see me". The previews looked good.
Kev: Jeff is a good guy to deal with. Who else sends you the parts and then you send him the check. Nice guy to meet in person.
Fife: I am glad that the ants are gone. Enjoy the Durango.
My son started his training as a Class 1 Police Officer this week. So far he is really enjoying it. 2 more years of college to go.
AF53, Ray: No package yet!
Enjoy the rest of the day!
Hudson#685 Kev: Jeff is a good guy to deal with. Who else sends you the parts and then you send him the check. Nice guy to meet in person.
Yes Jeff is John, plus he has very good prices, and now the 1615 is running like a champ again!
Congrats on your son. Bet your proud of him.
Kev: Thanks about my son, John. I am glad that he is focused on a carrer. Yes and you can't beat Jeff's prices. Another reason to go to York! You preorder and he has it waiting for you.
Enjoy the day!
Hudson - Congrats for John-son.
Something to keep in mind for Fall YORK. The town of New Freedom, PA (couple exits south on 83) has just taken delivery of a brand new 4-4-0 steam engine, and will be running excursions.
Good evening

Later Guys
Ryan
It's been a miserable day for me. Went to town this morning to pay bills, buy gas and buy groceries. Had a hard time getting the van started twice. Seems like it just floods out and the starter is too slow. First time I got it to start. Second time I had to get it jumped. Fired up the first try when the cables were connected. Went back home and got my fathers Marquis for the grocery shopping. He could drive the Pontiac G6 (what I call the roller skate) to work today. So went and got the groceries, came home and put the stuff away. Then I took the Marquis back and picked up my van. Now I'd been feeling bad since I got up this morning and it wasn't improving any as the day went on. I went down a little while ago to feed my fathers dogs and I was dragging pretty bad by then. Got them fed (several hours early but I really didn't think I'd be able to later). By now I was almost at the end of my rope. Legs shaky, energy about zero, vertigo running rampant. I had to do something or I was never leaving that house on my own. Only one thing could help and it was a dicey gamble. If I was wrong my problems would be over. I ate the one thing that's at the extreme top of my taboo list. A banana! I was down for a little while with cramps but they passed. I was feeling a little better but not by much. At least some of my strength was returning and I could get back home. Now I'm going to get something else to eat. That banana will be ripping me up later if I don't add something to it. Afterward I'm going to do whatever it takes to hold my bed down.
