The temp is 78.

We had a summer day in the high 80s. Chief the snow has finally melted. We also took the trip to see 2 of my niece's today, had a nice visit in a park with them. Tonight granny made us some Banilla/ginger ale floats. Very good on a warm evening...S.J.

Hello all

Interesting day today. People issues actually went fine. But we had a bit of an incident. Nobody hurt fortunately, but it was an eye opener.

I imagine I just signed myself up for a few more meetings.

Prob headed down tonight.

Ray, Shake and Bake and Wifey, Kaye are guesting me.  Making him take off from his part time full time job.  He promises me a cab ride though.  Looking forward to visiting the west bank again.

Chief, glad to hear that Don is hosting you.  That's great!  Don has a nice family and home.  I paid him a visit a while back.  Hope you get that cab ride at Knott's and we will figure out a way to get together I'm sure while you are here.  Do you plan on going to Sandy Eggo  while you are out here? I'm sure Doug would like to see you too.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Worked upstairs in the attic.  Did not get as much done as I hoped, but still made progress.  Edged and trimmed the yard this afternoon.  Field is full for the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" as Conor Daly starts 31st for AJ and Joseph Newgarden starts 25th for Sarah.  Daughter is doing better.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good prevening. (If you watch The Big Bang Theory, you'll understand).

Working on the last English paper of the year. Hope to have time to work on the 109 a little more this evening. Going to add the dark gray spots to it. Will add decals afterwards.

On synthetic, we ran tests on courier vans [racked up the miles hauling State's mail statewide].  Ran oil tests at every 5 K when we changed the filter and added a quart [to off set the filter].  At 60,000 miles, we were getting results that indicated the oil did not need replacing.  Convinced me.  I use full synthetic in all my vehicles, lawnmowers and tractor.  I change the oil every 5K [which can run a lot longer] or every 6 months [sometimes the Chevy pickup does not make 5 K in 6 months].  I use full synthetic in all my 2 cycle engines including outboards.  Same with the outboards' lower units.  Less wear.  Its slick.

Chief, I to use full synthetic in all my vehicles, lawnmowers and tractor. I have been using it since I got my new 1978 Chev LUV. Back then there was a lot of push back on the stuff from some of the guys I knew. I would change it once a year or 15K. Never had a problem. On these new GMs the car tells you when to change the oil by the driving conditions and so I do it then but it still runs over 10K.

Thanks for the Prayers for Lexi guys! Smile
WOW been cutting grass since 8:30 with only a break for brunch. Did it all but the back and side yard of the house that I did last night. And that is cutting with a 48” and a 72” mower. Sleep They are calling for rain over the next four days so I thought I had better do it today. Lightning

Did I say the Dakota had a 4.9 Oops 4.7 Great engine but gas hog. Best ever just over 17 mpg and that was only once. Most was 13 to 16 MPG. Put anything on the trailer hitch and you would pray for 10 mpg. Chevy 5.3 in full sized 1500 and gets 16 to 20 MPG with more power. The GM does have an engine management system that cuts it down to 4 clys when it is not pulling, the Dakota did not. I love the power and torque of the GM 3.6 V6 in wifey's Torrent just hope they hold up.

Aloha and happy Summer - turned on the A/C for the first time this year. The bride held a surprise party at a local restaurant for my birthday last night - which really surprised me since I thought all the 'festivities' were over - and I had dodged that bullet.  She is a pretty good fibber and apparently been setting this up for months -  It was nice to see the friends and family who showed up, and hear their kind words. My daughter and her boyfriend drove all the way from Cedar Point too.

Chief - Thanks for the information.

88 - I'd try going with the concrete colored spray paint first.  Railroads used both concrete and stone masonry.  The B&O's Bloomington Viaduct actually has masonry stone on one side, and concrete (from double tracking) on the other.  And, yes, ballast is used on viaducts.

Ray, you got some CA bar-be-que for me.  Will be surprising you, Dennis and Dougsnotthegrump in a couple of months thanks to US Airways.

Chief, don't know about the bar-b-que but I'm sure we can find something good to eat.  Looking forward to seeing you. Shake and Bake, D. Baker will probably join the get together too.  Hope he can get some time from Knott's.  My layout is in my garage which gets pretty hot in the summer time but early in the day or at night is not bad.  I'll pray for a cool day.  I have not met Doug in San Diego face to face myself but I have been to their layout at the museum.  Great place.

My son got his new refrigerator delivered yesterday but they sent him a model with the door handles on the wrong side.  They tried to switch it but gave up. Sending a technician out on Monday to fix it.  Nothing is easy!

Dinner out last night with the wife while #2 son is away.  Had prime rib and it was the best I have had at this place.  Tried to look at DVD of movie about Margaret Thatcher with Meryle Streep but fell asleep.  Have to look at it again.

Getting ready for church now.  They will draw the raffle tickets at the festival tonight.  Hope I win.  Could use some train money.

later,

Ray

Afternoon fellas.

Well here are some pics of the new bridge... and construction. I didn't get nearly as many construction photos as I would have liked, but I forgot where the camera was. Sad

Old bridge, constructed of dimensional lumber and spackle (weight 22.5 lbs)

Setting up the circle cutting jig for the router

Testing the track fit before cutting the second base

New Bridge constructed of PVC lumber and sheet material (weight < 12 lbs)

New Bridge on top, Old Bridge on bottom

New bridge has 3/8 inch 'railing' above the upper surface. I am thinking of adding some decoration to it, but not sure... all depends on what I finish it with.

Options:
1. Paint concrete color
2. Spray paint with 'granite' spray paint
3. Cover with sheets of paper that have brick painted on them

I am leaning toward #2 as I think it will cover a few flaws better than the other options.

Question:
1. Thoughts on covering options
2. Did the RRs use ballast on bridges like this?

I really was surprised myself that I didn't care for the HEMI.  The best way to describe it was that it didn't seemed geared right for the Durango.  Beltway, hills, or town driving, it just noticeably slowed whenever I let off the gas.  Just not what I need.

Frankie has one in his Dodge pickup.  He does not like it.  Gas hog without the power.  He says, "Dad, your old Chevy 350 has more road power than this thing."  He's has pulled a show car and trailer with both on long trips.  60K and it is taking some oil.  I think the valve seals are bad.  Smokes bad when he first cranks it after sitting for a long period.

Interesting.

Morning gang.  Cloudy and showers around.  Had a nice one real early this AM.  Need more though.  Garden loved it and so did Wifey's flowers and shrubs.  More through tomorrow.

When I first got into the State's fleet management, there were junky Chrysler products and then worse Jeep products.  In fact, I wrote Jeep out of the bids.  We then had mainly Chevy and Ford vehicles.  When I retired I had 9,000+ vehicles, we had more Chrysler products than any other single manufacturer's vehicle.  We also had added Jeep back into our bid process.  For years, we kept Durango's out of our bids.  When I left, that was the main 4X4.  Point is, all "American" vehicle manufacturer's have made their products better. Less wear.  Its slick.

Ryan, good to see those NS's go by.  The CSX coal drag is only 4 cars. Whistling

Busy Mayor's week starting tomorrow. Sigh

Hope all have a great week.  Thanks to all of you who work.  My SS check sure comes in good. Wink

Hudson - Wifey actually stated that she "loved" the Durango interior, but that the Traverse was a better ride.  Need to straiten out a sales doodle tomorrow morn...

Good morning fellow trainers/trainees.

Yesterday didn't go as expected. Putting a new door on a house built in 53 is quite the undertaking. Hoping to finish and get storm door on today. Was selling Poppies in the morning. Nice to see so many behind the troops! Also took my mother and step dad to the landscaping place. She picked out two red maples. I kicked in 100.00 which they were against. So I told them it covered fathers day also. They were alright with that. Trees were pretty good size. Total with planting was around 600.

Chief I have the wireless door bell on my house. Works great. Three years and same batteries in buttons.

Jeffrey you do more work and pics on your layout than anybody I know. Makes me jealous but love hearing about it and seeing the pics. It's like the pots own magazine on layout tricks and tips!

Kev thanks for the info on layout materials. Still haven't decided on sound deadening material I will use. Continued prayers for gd. Wat to young to have to go through that but sounds like she is a trooper.

The son is coming over for a visit today. So between that and working on the door I doubt I'll get and train time. Maybe Monday. I'll try to get a pic of the platform changes and post it in spf.

Nice day in store for us today. Rain Tues,Wed,and Thurs.

All for now from the thumb of Mich - enjoy your Sunday!

Morning, Guys...yes it's still AM on the East Coast...

Trip was too long, 3 hours one way (Fife, I waved at ya going past the 695/95 interchange...Laugh) got home at 10.

Brother goes back soon, he can opt out in August (was supposed to do a 2 year assignment).  I had a good time there, seeing the SIL and the twins.

The Dodge 4.7 is a great engine, I thought it was a real torquey SOB, I really liked it.  That engine could be a real hot rod if it were done correctly.  The 3.6 Phoenix engine is a new development.  Upwards of 305 horse, depending on the application.  I watched the development process on some of the Mopar channels and it is impressive.  Yeah, Synthetic or a good semi-synthetic would do wonders for power, gas mileage and wear.  I'm debating on doing that to the Reliant.  Since its still essentially new, I can get away with it.

Rain today, which sucks.  I wanted to install my rear springs Ashamed

If I don't do anything else today, I'll have to get pictures of my N5c for SPF.

Catch ya later

Fife, you and everyone else on the forum is welcome here ANYTIME to watch trains.  Most days Average 30 trains (daylight hours)

My loading dock is as close as you can legaly get to the tracks. Nice shade trees too.

The dock is along side the NS "Pittsburgh Line"  runs from west virginia to Philly or something like that.  lots intermodal traffic, and always once a day some thing "odd" comes along  tons of mixed frights and a daily CSX coal drag hauling PPLX rotary dump cars.

I never get tired watching the trains go by.

Good Sunday Morning All!

Cloudy with rain today.

Interesting night last night as HudsonJohn asks me if I had worked on a O Gauge Royal Blue I won recentley. Well I hadn't sooooooo. Off to the operating room I go. Boy, one thing after another. After an hour and a half I put the soldering iron aside along with the rest and I hope to finish it later today. After all it was 12:30 and I had enough.

If I never have to replace springs on a prewar again, life will be good!

Off to my niece and grandniece's birthday party later so HudsonJohn and I will go over his Lionel catalog there and show Cathy the new Yankee train. He will then mention that it would make a nice birthday present for me. Smile, Wink & Grin

Pacers won series over Knicks if anybody cares

MikeC - Somebody does. This Knick team with Melo is never going to win it all as constructed. Melo is the most selfish player we've ever had. As a big fan of the early 1970's teams, they helped each other to become a TEAM, picks, screens, ball movement, hit the open man, etc. Not this group. Melo and Kidd are as opposite as players can be.

Kev - Great news! Sounds like she's overcome her temporary handicap fast. You shower is about 3 weeks ahead of ours.

Chief - Your box is something most of us wishes we had. It looks great.

Later.

Good Morning! 59 and raining here in beautiful Bayville, NJ.

Had a busy last couple of days, mostly working on cutting, moving and stacking large oak logs toward the back of the property so that I can split them at my leisure. I never turn down a load of firewood. This stuff is so large that after cutting it down to 15-16" lengths I had to use my engine hoist to load it on the trailer to move it to the back. My old Economy Power King got a workout. Today it is a Birthday Party for our 2 year old Grandniece Lilly.

Kev: Continued prayers for Lexi. May she heal quick with no problems.

Fife: The Queen wants the Treverse. I know that route quite well.

Kev / Fife: I had the 4.7  V8 in my Company 2006 Dakota 4x4. When I retired it had over 185,000 on it. That was a sweet engine. Never a problem with the engine. The rest of it is another story.

Jeffrey: Get well.

Have a Great Day!

Temp is 64, going to low 80s today.

Mayhaps an afternoon with my niece's. They are having a baby shower for one of the daughters in a local park. Granny kept flip-flopping so I didn't know if we were going or not. Actually I still don't know. It's nice out so we probably will go. No Tardis last night so I have no news...S.J.

Good morning. It's 72° with 98 % humidity. The high will be 88°.

Not feeling up to par this morning. Nerve pain in the neck and back, cramps in rib muscles on right side. To say it's distracting is an understatement. Maybe I was moving around too much yesterday. I think I'll take it easy today.

Good Morning.  Another cool dreary weekend in SE PA.   Memorial day weekend isnt looking much better.

There is a family of birds living in the drop ceiling above my office.  The young scream all day long, and now there out of the nest walking all over.  Its getting anoying.  Even the Cats are anoyed.  At least they sleep at night (the birds.) once there out, I'll be sealing p that hole. (ment to do it last year)

Went and looked at a verry small wooded building lot last night.  price is right. less than 1/2 acre. but has city water and sewer.  only issue I see is is borders the rear of a ritzy neighborhood.

I weed wacked around the warehouse yesterday AM, and cleaned a ton of stuff up. The some butt head dumped trash all over the rear of the building when I ran in to town.   called POLICE, that was at 11AM YESTERDAY, still have seen or heard from them.

looks like Ive been summoned to mow ex's grass......Bang Head  I was sorta hoping for heavier drizzle today so I didnt have to deal with it

Honestly, all ive been wanting for the last month is a 80deg saturday afternoon so I can sit on my loading dock and drink Beer and watch NS freights go by.

soon enough I hope

Good evening all,

Cloudy in SE Indiana.  Busy day.  Grandson's team went 1-1-1 in soccer games today.  Took all concerned to Steak'n'Shake afterward.  Took grandson to local science museum while his mother rested from procedure.  No gallstones so not sure what problem is.  Wife and I went to local pizza place in Bloomington and then a local cookie place after that.  Special day at track as "Special" Ed won the pole for Indy 500.  Sato is starting 18th and Simona 24th.  Sarah's driver and Conor Daly still to make field.  Pacers won series over Knicks if anybody cares.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Come on Chief, come home from your vacation. The weather is fine. Paradise Embarrassed

If you promise to keep that Yankee cold up there, I'll "chug" back in.  WHooo, Whooo NS coming down the tracks.  Been saying prayers for your Granddaughter.

Busy day.  Built Wifey two more bird houses while she hosted Red Hat Club.  Started thundering and lightning off but getting close.  Interrupted her "hen party" to let dogs and self in.  Mowed grass again.  Then worked on door bell.  Transformer was bad.  Now I know why????  Bell relay melted and stuck on one of the "dongs".  Burnt out new transformer too. Bang Head  Will deal with that tomorrow.  Temped to use wireless door bell.  Did that at the lake house as no wiring.  Works great.  Just have to replace batteries in buttons every now and then.

Ray, you got some CA bar-be-que for me.  Will be surprising you, Dennis and Dougsnotthegrump in a couple of months thanks to US Airways.

Kev - I missed the post, but it sounds like good news from what I read!

Worked OT today - long long day.  Tonight we went to Long Horn and had steaks and ribs for dinner as a family.  Went by the school for a little while and then finally got home and was just exhausted.  Sorry I missed the Tardis tonight.  I was going to play on the Xbox for a couple hours, but was just too tired.  I just woke up from a nap - guess I'll watch a movie now.  TTFN!

Mostly sunny and in the 80's today.

Worked outside today.  Spaded some more veggie garden area and planted the tomatoes.  Mowed the lawn and went a few rounds with creeping Charlie.

I scored a tender with 'The Mighty Sound of Steam' for cheap on e-bay.   Kind of surprised I found one.  This will match up with the MPC era Hudson I got recently that did not have a tender.

About all for now.
