Yesterday I spent the morning cleaning up the garage, getting rid of some stuff, and moving some stuff to the shed, then mowed the lawn (Christina still does not like riding on the tractor when the mower is running), the got the rest of the downed limbs cutup and stacked on the firewood pile... screened porch is now free of wood on the floor and ready for Spring Cleaning in prep for Summer.

Brent,

I think that is a good thing that Christina does not like riding on the tractor when the mower is running. Surprise I have seen to many times where children have been severely injured wile riding on their parents lap when they are mowing the grass. Much better she stay far far away from the mower when those blades are spinning. Way too much opportunity for something bad to happen. They should know early on that mowers are not play things. I know a lot of people do but..........

 JMHO.

NO! She does not ride with me. She was standing in the screened porch blowing bubbles and she ran inside when I came by on the mower. She was right to the dinning room window (floor to ceiling) so she could watch from there... and then ran to the sun room, then to the living room/front door... I think she got quite the work out!

I don't even like her riding on the tractor with me when I'm not mowing... or pulling her in the trailer... that is what we have a Radio Flyer Wagon for!

Good Morning! 54 and Raining in Bayville, NJ.

Project for the day: Wife wants me to build a Wishing Well for a Wedding Shower that is this Sunday. Glad she told me last night and not Saturday Night! Then it is off to school!

Saturday Johnny threw a mower deck belt on his year old John Deere Quick Trac. Yesterday, he had a few jobs to do so I investigated why the belt came off and to reinstall it. The culprit was a piece of wood that got caught between a pulley and belt. The machine did exactly what it was designed to do to avoid any damage. That 7 Iron Deck is very well designed and worth every penny. The machine is up and running good as new.

Trainlover2richard: Welcome to the Pot! We do have a lot of fun here. Alaska: One of the BEST VACATIONS we ever took, next to NC, Chief Whistling

SJ: Good luck at the dentist. I have known my dentist since we were kids. I keep teasing him when he is going to retire, but I wait until after he is done. His daughter is taking over his practice when she gets back from doing volunteer work in Africa.

Ryan: I would go with Fife's sugestion with the table at a meet or Jim's about using Ebay to sell off your excess collection.

RJ: You are on the "Right Track" to building your layout.

Brent: Another busy weekend you had. You and your Dad remind me of my son and I. Christina reminds me of my daughter Michele. When she was that age she was my shadow.

Kev: That 1992 UD is a tough truck but the age may hurt it in the price. 4 more years you can get Antique Plates for it.

RT: You know what the results from the NTSB will be. OPERATOR'S ERROR!!!! Oops - Sign I hope nothing was damaged.

Mike: You had a busy Saturday. Too bad the fund raiser was not that well attended.

Have a Great Day!

John

Aloha from a sunny and warm Chicago where I didn't wear a coat this morning for the first time this year.

Jim, Kev, thanks for the advice about the paint - I've poked around the undercarriage, looked under the wells and things still look OK but you're right, it's just not worth mucking about with this old a vehicle.

I've been reading the house electric information with interest, do you think if one of the plugs in an wall outlet is dead, it is a bad thing that needs replacing?

Zero, I agree with Fife about sellling. i have 'churned' my collection many times over the years - to raise resources to get something new or to move it in a new direction- and I've always looked for a way to give a fellow hobbyist a good deal. It made me happier than worrying about maximizing my price.

Jake, A Higher Calling is an interesting book.  As a follow-up, may I recommend The First and the Last, by Adolf Galland?

Chief,  I saw this artwork on Friday evening and thought of you Big Smile

Doug In My HO any electrical issue in your home should be investigated.  It may just be the jumper from plug to plug or a bad outlet but you should have it checked out if you are not up to doing it yourself.

Home from the dentist, got away with a cleaning and no return for 6 months. I like it when he says that. I also stopped at Wild Bills trains and he replaced some smoke chamber wadding for me. And now the rest of today begins..S.J.

Good afternoon.

Feeling real down right now. May have something to do with the weather. Work and some homework for tonight. Not feeling real good right now. Too tired to think straight.

Well I went down and cut the grass and got my laundry done at the same time. Took a few hours but it's done. Now I'm exhausted and about to fall over and I really don't feel like doing anything the rest of the day.

See y'all later. Maybe.

Good evening all,

Well, our son got home from his trip to Virginia and North Carolina last night but missed his mother's birthday dinner.  We picked him up from the light rail station about 10:30 last night.  L.A. is not the greatest place in the country for public transportation but he pieced together a trip from the L.A. airport to Pasadena and made it work with first a fly a way bus to L.A. Union Station and then Gold Line light rail to Pasadena where we picked him up.  I'm looking forward to some of the pictures he took on his trip.

Nice group picture of the Coffee Pot guys at York.  Thanks!

Wife started her physical therapy today for neck and back pain.  Hope it does some good.

Lazy day for me.  Got up early to rearrange cars so son could go to work.  Did not get much sleep so I have been moping around all day.  Ate a big carne asada burrito for lunch.  That was a mistake.  I feel like a beached whale now.  It was good but I'm paying the price now.

Ran trains a little bit this morning and listened to music on a Garrison Keilor CD I have called "Shakin the Blues Away".  It's a lively swing style band.  Good sound!

Country music lost a legend with the departure of George Jones this past week.

later,

Ray

John, You are right old but only 66K and always inside, The thing runs great and we have nothing in it. I think it will sell. Tom and I are going to split the sell so I can do nothing but do good. He will do the same.

It has made 87 miles since we took it out of the west Chicago Loop so it seems to be fine. Tomorrow I will do the repairs to the Trans cooler and see what the guys from the dealer think it is worth.

You all have a nice night! Wink

That York group is a handsome bunch. Well I got the riding mower out, flipped it on it's side( with help from SIL) and gave the blade a few swipes with a file. Turned her up, put in the fire water and away we go. Didn't do the back though. Charlie stopped by on his way home from work and we ran the GP30 for a few laps..Banilla will be waiting for the thingy...S.J.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps near 70.  Totally wasted day.  Reason for day off did not occur.  Day long conference tomorrow.  Not sure what to expect.  Did get new Lionel catalog's today.  Is it just me, or is there something wrong when you can pay over $500 list for a Diesel engine just by itself and yet at the same time buy a complete RTR set for less than $500 with a Diesel powered engine with a lesser array of sounds and other nuances?  Personally the most interesting catalog of the 3 was the American Flyer one.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Had a busy day today. First mowing the grass and doing laundry then feeding my fathers dogs this evening as he's at work tonight. It looks like I may have a problem with oranges now and I may have to add them to my taboo list along with bananas, cherries, avocados, tomatoes and a few others. In the past few weeks every time after eating an orange I've been hot, shaky and really weak not to mention my sinuses go wild and I sweat profusely. That never happened before until a few weeks ago and it's gotten progressively worse. Tomatoes and avocados will keep me on the throne for hours. Cherries make me quite sick and a banana will require that I be taken to the ER. Looks like oranges are on the way to doing the same thing. I was thinking today that this might be some kind of reaction with the new meds but this started before the new meds were prescribed. My father eats oranges from the same bag and he shows no ill effects. And we've been through several bags. So why would they effect me and not him? Another point to bring up with my doctor.

Time to call it a night here. See y'all tomorrow.

Hey SJ - I can tip a mower clean over and almost upside down all by myself!  Not that I meant to do it Whistling

Mike - ditto that for me.  The pricing seems really out of whack on the new catalog.  Plus no new Halloween for Jimmy Sad

Jeff - be careful with the oranges, aren't they high in sugar too?

Well, 2 days since the grits poisoning, guess I made it this time.  It was a close one.  3 days until I get my parole and can fly back home.  My wife informed me the lawn is a foot high and threatened to try to drive the mower "just to cut the front yard".  I'm sure it will end up down in the woods.  I hope she doesn't try it.  Of course, she threatens to do all kinds of work around the house, so what am I worried about Wink

TARDIS - Someone pick me up, I'm stranded out here near some airport in Nashville!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

They also have a lot of potassium and it's a well noted fact in my medical records that I have problems with that. Not from a shortage of it. Rather from having too much, a sometimes nasty condition known as hyperkalemia.

Forecast has our 1st hot weather coming. Thur.95 Fri. 97 Sat. 95

I have a sprinkler head right by the sidewalk and it sticks up a little and I see its riser is broken again. I hope its the black soft plastic riser and not the pipe itself as it becomes a big job then. I need to get a shorter sprinkler so its flush with the ground, I guess people kick it or step on it or something as they walk by.

I have to put my Border Collie Cooper in the house when I mow the lawn. I'm afraid he will get his paw under the mower deck,a real fear as he thinks the mower is something to attack and he is a nuisance when I'm trying to mow.

Dennis....putting the pup away when you mow the lawn is a good idea for the reasons you state.  But you can train your Border Collie to ignore the noises that get it going.  This is a common problem.....many folks' dogs with whom we train react differently to different noises.

Up at our training center they use leaf blowers, animated stuffed animals that sing, jump, walk, and play music, remote control cars, drums, they bang on 55 gallon drums, pots and pans, use starter pistols, metal containers with rocks or pennies in them, a vacuum cleaner, they pop bubble wrap, and the list goes on.

Maximus' only gadget de jour for chasing and the noise is the remote control car, but only when they run it into him first.

The concept is simple:  the dog gradually (over time) is desensitized to what sets them off.  You have your dog sit or down on leash and keep them there when the noise is introduced and then removed.  Then you  reward your pup for maintaining the position (quiet praise, food) when they tolerate the distraction.  Gradually the noise is prolonged until they tolerate the noise without correction.  They may not like the noise--ever--but they have to learn that you will keep them safe from "it" , that they won't be killed or harmed, and that you are the protector.

Re the sprinkler head........you must have hit it with your snowblower out there in the Southern California snows. Whistling

I kinda agree with Maximus here... someone runs a remote control car into me and they won't have said remote control car very long. Whistling
