That's why Brent needs a full-size SUV or van - just to carry the stuff... and you grandparents probably know the latest car seats are ridiculously (or impressively, take your pick) complicated to attach. Smile

Jack, I would do a sweep of the dozens, nay hundreds of stuffed little friends every few months. Store them in the basement for a few more months to see if any were missed. Then out they'd go.

Of course, we kept longer the zillions of Hot Wheel and Matchbox cars.. and the American Girl stuff that was pretty pricey. Ah, the journey is jus beginning for young Matthew

Yes, What to do with all of the stuffed animals. I find they make excellent targets for target practice. Smile, Wink & Grin

They have a nice puff when hit and besides before you know it Matthew will be needing gun safety and target practice. Whistling

Hot Wheel and Matchbox cars must all be bought in 1:43 scale.  Wink

TheQ and I were getting pictures together to send to the birth mother today... took this one to finish the requirements. Turned out pretty good!

Brent......yesterday I chastised you for goofing off on the POT while you should have been working your second and third jobs to pay for Christina's wardrobe.  You responded that Grammy had the wardrobe covered.

Today I again find you goofing off on the POT while you should be working your second and third jobs to pay for much-needed additions to Matthew's fledgling train collection. WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

I also notice that Matthew already has quite the collection of stuffed animals.  WARNING:  WOMEN DEVELOP A SEVERE ADDICTION TO BUYING STUFFED ANIMALS FOR THE LITTLE ONES.  At the rate you are going, you will have to add an addition to the house to store this junk these alleged keepsakes.

I speak from sad experience.  My wife has accumulated 9 Christmas-themed singing and dancing stuffed animals.  This does not scratch the surface of the dozens of static Christmas-themed ones she has purchased!!!!.  Then there are the Easter-themed ones......etc.  The headcount on these "event"-based ones pale in comparison to the mainstream inventory.

Add in all of the stuffed animals she has purchased and given to the grandchildren for their house, or the Barbie and American Girl Doll dolls and you have......me, destitute and broke in retirement, trying to exist on a steady diet of Raman noodle soup and an occasional hot dog.  Bang Head

Kev - glad to have "helped". Any idea how to pop that door panel on my BMW? DevilAngryBang Head

Brent,

Just get more PO'd, it'll let go.Surprise  The last door panel I removed involved a large crowbar, but I was in a hurry with a vehicle that was no longer mine. Smile, Wink & Grin  What year 3 series?  Usually there are screws along the bottom and sides, then the panel pulls out and up.

Not much going on today.  Waiting for UPS to deliver a Ford Racing box at the moment.  Watching my email as well.

KEV - forgot to mention... if you come to York I can give you a ride in one, and if you are nice I may even let you drive! Big Smile

Thanks Brent that would be another good reason to go to York. I am afraid that York and a lot of other things will be out of the question for some time as I am seeing bills for my unnecessary trip to the hospital and that ride in the big red box.  Tongue Tied

BTW I stopped at the dealership and told them about getting locked out of the truck. Their answer. "Oh yeah we have had that happen to us too." Well how do you fix it? We don't know. We will look and see if there is any service bulletins and let you know.  Dots - Sign

Well as long as I own it the offer will stand.

I can't help but laugh about your trip to the dealership... what is sad is you would think they would have figured it out if it happened to them as it would most likely happen to a customer and then they would know the fix. Most likely you drove off and they said "Yep there goes another one... if he comes back we'll tell him there are no SBs, if he comes back a third time then we'll check... who wants a beer?"

Hello all,

 TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cloudy mid’30’s again here.

88............Christina is a doll and Matthew  is a handsome guy

Mrs & I will be frying fish again 4 to 7 PM. The weather is better than the last two weeks and the local TV station did a story this AM & noon about our Parish’s Friday seafood efforts. I’m afraid we’re gonna get slammed tonight.

Probably haul manure tomorrow. Son has acquired about 100 pounds of pig fat from a friend who is a butcher. He wants to make lard tomorrow. He’s not interested in the lard, we all love the cracklin’s. Nothing better than a dash of salt on them straight out of the lard press. Other than that I hope to get some general clean up done this weekend.

Best get back to Chief’s SS. May be back this evening.

Prayers for those in need

Aloha. Snow showering today. Nice TARDIS ride last night. Solved all the world's problems.. Repairing the tunnel beneath Eagles Ridge that the curious kittens destroyed whilst exploring. Hope Chief is warm in FLA. Brent, I'm glad your kids fit comfortably in your existing cars. When we got number two, it was time for a minivan. Ugly, basic, functional. It sure came in handy shuttling the kid's friends and gear over the years... Now it's perfect for moving them to college.  Ryan, stray cats are wonderful. We've hosted many over the years.! Prairetype, that ALCO looks great.

You got it kinda correct. We FIT into our existing cars a family... the Murano is the only one with a luggage area big enough to fit 2 large suit cases, a fullsized stroller, and an umbrella stroller. Little else will fit. I'm still trying to talk TheQ into getting a car for her everyday vehicle when she is done paying on the 5-series, but she is very reluctant to do so, and when the Murano is paid off we should get a larger SUV. Depending on how many miles are on the Murano and my 3-series I may try to hold off on getting a new car for myself and alternate between the Murano and 3.

Kev - no problem... when I tried to figure it out I was getting so upset I actually THOUGHT that would be a viable way to get the panel off! Smile

TheQ and I were getting pictures together to send to the birth mother today... took this one to finish the requirements. Turned out pretty good!

Ryan - I couldn't help but laugh at your story about the garage! If she is making you build it so far away, then I think a full bath and bedroom may be in order... at least the full bath would be an awesome idea... but getting water and sewer run to it may be more expense than you need?

Rich - forgot to mention... thanks for the heads up on the Durango... how disappointing... not sure I will even consider it now. I'm not a fan of MB at all! [tdown]

wow, not even noon on the first and page 2 allready

the cat and I have a vet appt at 3.40 today, so i get to close early. too bad I have to delay the Beer till AFTER the vet appt.  On a positive note, the vet I goto has good looking girls working in there, so its a good trade I guess.

I woke up ready for a Beer this morning, but always wait till at leat 3pm!

The rest of the wall paper arrived yesterday, so , so much for goofing off this weekend.

the wife saw my MEGA GARAGE and TRAIN LOFT blue prints I started last week, and boy did I get an ear full.  Apparently, a 2 story garage twice the size of your house in a womans mind is "OVERKILL"

"and a rediculous waste of money" I was told (keep in mind I was told I could do "what ever I wanted" as long as I paid for it and didn't put any of it on the charge cards)  And she also now, wants me to put it clear down at the "other" end of the property. Maybe I should put a bedroom and full bath in while I'm at it?

I also met the Township Zoning officer this AM at the house, to make sure they were gonna be cool with the size of this thing, as were zoned "woodland conservation" He say it had to meet all building codes, suject to all inspections, and make it as big as you want, but don't cut down any more trees than nessasary for the building and to maintain it. And it haqs to be 50 feet from all boundries.

He actually seemed more concerned with wheather or not I was gonna let him hangout and drink Beer in it when its done........  (small town, evey one knows every one)

She also has mandated that it have its own electric service so she isnt responsible for the heating / cooling of the beast.  (Ipay ther morgage and she pays the utilities and groceries, it c ome out almost even, and beats the "I need half the light bill tommorow" BS

I think my keyboard is crapping out.....

gotta run

Good morning all,

It is cloudy in SE Indiana with temps around 30.  "Saucy wench" and I went out to eat last night.  Food was good.  Watched 2 episodes of MASH.  If I did something else, I do not recall.  I am slowly reading a new book about Calvin Coolidge.  It reads well.  Thursday was a day of pure frustration at work.  The amount of time people have been arguing over doing a certain task is now 10 times the amount that actually would be involved.  Go figure.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

I can't get granny to budge from here. We will go out for lunch today and then she has an evening with 2 grandsons. Daughter is sick so granny will be their escort to the school fair..Ahh March at last, we made it.   S.J.

Jack,

I have a couple of metal replacement aprons in my parts bin.  I bought a bunch of these from Jeff the Train Tender months back.  I plan to install one on this unit and as an extra measure put a few spots of expoxy between them for added integrity.

Prairietype, I have put those in all of my ALCOs but never thought of addong some expoxy. That is a good idea. I like using the stuff they call Two Ton expoxy. Takes longer to set up but holds great.

Just looked on the doorstep and a package arrived.  It's a 2343C, the B unit I've wanted for a long time.  I only waited about 30 years to add this to the consist to make it complete and right.  It has just the right patina of age and handling to make it a perfect match with the others.  I just road tested it, all good.

It even came with a complete box and liner, one flap torn free but included. Someday I am going to figure out what adhesive and/or technique to use to re-attach a flap in a quality way.  I know there has to be a good method other than tape, or Elmers glue (which dries to hard.)

.......My Minneapolis and St. Louis ALCO FA customization is coming along well.  Last month I mentioned this project, having acquired a beat up ALCO mostly for the chassis and motor, to use on another locomotive.  The cab has been sitting for a while and I kept looking at it with an eye towards possibilies....   And, I had another junked ALCO cab.  The M&St.L was missing the front apron, so I cut the closed apron off of the junker and have glued it to the M&St.L. And I rebuilt a 200 series motor and put it ona frame. and it runs fine.

What about the paint?  The owner of one of our local Lionel train shops (Fred's in Overland Park, KS) told me once that Testors 1103 Red is a close match for many of the Lionel ALCO red cabs.  It is for the Santa Fe, but the M&St.L ALCO seems to have a slight red-orange hue.  Yesterday I set about mixing paint.

For the benefit of anyone or all, here is the formula/recipe for mixing this paint. It is easy, as follows:

1.  One 1/4 oz. bottle of Testors 1103 Red

2. One 1/4 oz. bottle of Testors 1127 Orange

Pour the entire bottle of red into a larger paint jar, such as an empty Testors Model Master 1/2 oz. paint jar.

Pour 1/3 of the orange in with the red and mix.  That's it.

I gradually added the orange in stages and let the samples dry and it appears to match exactly when mixed in the proportion described above. When applied it looks initially to be ever so slightly brighter, but once it dries it is pretty exact (I've looked at a small touch up area under a several light spectrums that include incandescent, flourescent and overcast daylight, but not bright sunlight because there hasn't been any sun for several days.)

I feel confident enough to begin the touch-up in earnest of the rubbed edges and other appropriate paint brushing spots.  I plan to airbrush the apron, and I have not yet figured out how much to thin the paint.  It may need to be 50%, but that's a future test.

Here are some preliminary pictures of the cab.  Note: an M&St.L 229 is normally has an open cut-out pilot.  My customized version will have a closed pilot.

Prarie......the Minneapolis & St. Louis Alco came out a couple of years after my M & St.L GP9, and the red color (on my LCD) of your Alco look to match mine perfectly.  Those 2XX Alco front aprons are a real pain, but you seem to have matters well in hand.Thumbs Up

Are you going to reinforce it on the blind side in any way?  It would be a real shame to have your replacement apron crack or snap off after all of this cutting, fitting, and gluing effort, not to mention the upcoming repaint.

Nope. Compared to mine it's hardly off the starting block!

Good morning. It's 36° with 86% humidity. The high will be 55°.

Looks like it's going to be a nice but somewhat cool day. It's partly cloudy now but is due to be mostly cloudy later.

In a while I'll be heading into town to pay some bills, get gas for the van, get the first half of the grocery shopping done and whatever else I need to get done today. Later I'll clean up more of the layout, that is if the rest of my day doesn't get hijacked.

I was looking at my locos earlier and counted them. I have thirty-two in serviceable condition. Of that number less than half still have their factory built drives. Many of them are rebuilds with different motors or trucks and fully a third are Frankenlocos cobbled together from spare or junk parts that weren't intended to be where they are. What a menagerie I've assembled.

The weather today is a rerun of yesterday.

"Kev - If I recall, yours is due a bit ahead of mine? Late June I believe? Ours is mid July. Of course you're use to it by now, so what's your secret? Just let them have control of the transformer, right?"

Ray, You got it. just let them go. I start out showing them the whistle button but just make sure the train on the track is one you don’t care tooo much about. Surprise

Katie is early July. She will have a C section because she had one with Lexi so I guess she has to have one.

Bob, I sent you a PM, Thanks!

Brent, I can't help you on the door card on the BMW. Come to think of it I don't think I have ever been in a BMW.Hmm I bet a crowbar would do the trick. Smile, Wink & Grin No No No.

Hello all,

......Jack - 7 yrs is not an old carSmile, Wink & Grin

Bob........neither is 85,000 miles, which I now have on that one.  There has been a lot of automotive talk here as of late, so I thought I would throw in my current situation.

I am now coming up on some routine automotive maintenance: brakes, replace (original) alternator and serpentine belts, will have him check the (original) hoses, my front outer tie rod ends need replacing (plus alignment), annual inspection, and an oil change.  Same mechanic checked the condition of the (original) coolant as well as the transmission and differential fluids this past Fall (September) and said all of that stuff was up to snuff.

Since I am neither particularly mechanically inclined nor do I have experience, manuals, or tools, this upcoming visit to my local (trusted) mechanic of nearly 19 years is not going to be an inexpensive one.  I think I need to rob a bank. Bang Head

Sounds like most everyone around the world is having fun on this March 1st Friday.

I'm sitting here looking out the window at a heavy snowscape.  Spent part of yesterday fixing my 47 year old Cub Cadet tractor that got hard use in the recent large snowfalls. I bent the heck out of one of the primary brace bars and had to use a scissor jack and large furniture clamps to straighten the bar. There were other issues as well, and I got those fixed also.

Then I had time for fun, some success and a little frustration.

I'm working on some early postwar coil couplers. There is a break in the copper winding near the top layer and know I will find out when I mount it on a frame and put it on an rcs track, but if anyone knows I would appreciate it.

My Minneapolis and St. Louis ALCO FA customization is coming along well.  Last month I mentioned this project, having acquired a beat up ALCO mostly for the chassis and motor, to use on another locomotive.  The cab has been sitting for a while and I kept looking at it with an eye towards possibilies.... and I had another junked ALCO cab.  The M&St.L was missing the front apron, so I cut the closed apron off of the junker and have glued it to the M&St.L. Here are some preliminary pictures of the cab.  Note: an M&St.L 229 normally has an open cut-out for a pilot coupler. I flirted with an impulse to see if I could rig an operating Lionel LTC passenger car pilot to the front truck, but I'm not going to attempt it at this time.  My customized version will have a closed pilot.

Mornin' Fellas

Got ThePrincess dropped off at daycare. Now back home to get some work done before the social worker comes for our first post placement meeting... glad we only have two more and then we are done with all these meetings and inspections! The Hospitals pretty much all check to see that the carseat is installed properly, but once the carseat is locked in place they are out of your hair.

Matthew's It's a Boy car arrived yesterday. Still no York badge or TCA membership card - but the CC has been charged. Oh well.

Kev - glad to have "helped". Any idea how to pop that door panel on my BMW? DevilAngryBang Head

BOB,

Regarding the chicken, we called it that because it had a claw instead of a bucket for digging.  The claw had three fingers on the bottom and two fingers that closed and meshed on the top.  It was better then using an electromagnet crane for digging into a pile of steel.  You could grab right in and pull out large amounts of piping and sheet steel.  We had a contest on friday to pick up a soda can with the claws, winner didn't crush the can.  Very difficult but great fun.  Ah those were the dayz.  Then of course cold beer after work!

Hi GUYZ,

Nice here at 37.  Gonna be windy today, got PT done now gonna take MINNIE for a walk to river.   Work on layout later.

DENNIS V8 MINNIE is a weird cross between a black lab and a chiwauwau.  Figure that out and we will both know.  Gentleness of a lab but the speed and agility of the Wauwau.

STURFISH, TGIF!!!!! Glad to see you agin.

JACK,KEV,JEFFERY, nope not a social drinker, I buy the big cans.  15.5 gal. pretty hard to recycle, and will take a loss.  Little cans are from outdoor beer season which starts the first day of trout season on March 30.
