Rich, I missed Nam with a number of 265 in 1971. I would of done what I needed to but was glad I did not have to go and cried with those I knew with numbers under 105. Some who never came home. Angel

I agree, I missed Viet Nam by MONTHS....I turned 18, my number was 255 and then ended the draft...I'm 4-F anyway.

If the US Gov't would let me take my SS $, I'd stick in my IRA, at least I'd have something to leave to my daughter.  I'm probably not going to be able to retire, in the normal sense.

Just wish the economy would get better so I'll get a better paying job....not in the next 4 years, it won't...

Temp is 33 and we had sun all day.

It was not a big adventure day but I did get a few more train items back in their boxes. I am boxing really nice stuff, but I don't use it so it might as well be put away. A little at a time means a little more gets done. Banilla will be waiting for the thingy riders..S.J.

Kev, I'm going to disagree with you on a lot of fronts....

My dad is a US Navy veteran.  The US Government PROMISED him lifetime healthcare.  The Federal Imperial Government is slowly screwing him out o their promise.  He is a useful productive citizen and at 78, still teaches scuba diving, is a Master Diver, Rescue Diver and sport diver along with my Mom (who is 75).  This shows me the lack on integrity on the part of government.

The US Imperial Government will wipe away my affordable healthcare which I spend $200/month for my daughter and myself.  Dental, health and vision.  It will be gone before I turn 60.

I am on the inside of the big red box.  Government, whether it be local, county, state or the feds mandate your costs, NOT the corporations.  If you were illegal and spoke no English, trust me, this would have been a free ride.

Government is fraught with waste and mismanagement.  I'll call your attention to Social Security, which I have paid into for decades and, I assure you,   I'll never get a taste of it......ever.  I'd rather the feds leave me alone and let me manage my life in my own way.  I'll take personal responsibility over the current nanny state any time, thanks.

Jeff, if you need to zap it, no issue.  Just sharing my point of view.

Rich, you must of missed this. To young for the wars and to old for the cuts? your DAD paid for his.

I don't see us as having to disagree on anything. I am with you. My dad was in Burma in WW2 and came home with a bug in his lungs that they had to poison him for to kill it. In the end it killed him.

I have paid my way as far as SS and the medical systems ( that I still don't get anything from) of today after 46 years of working and paying. To me it is not an entitlement. I paid for it. It is an entitlement if you are some punk or any other person who has never worked or tried to work and get all of the free stuff you have pointed out. I will not list names out of fear of having someone go off. Besides, who cares it is only my  My 2 Cents

Jack - Angel for your Great Aunt and Family....Nice way to handle the Grand Daughter Thumbs Up

RT - Yup, been waiting for them to be issued...NOW to get to the post office

Just got home and made Buffalo Chicken strips on Potato Rolls with chilli beef!!!  YUM!!

Got a nice surprise in the mail...a $40 settlement check from my cell phone insurer (class action suit),  which will go toward paying off the mini-starter.

Very windy today and up to 40.  Sun was nice as I sat in the car during lunch, but very chilly.  WHO SAID SNOHIZO for Wednesday????

Started pulling together the pieces for my 2026 project.  Need screws and front truck and an e-unit.  I may try to find an electronic e-unit, but we'll see what I'll find and on budget.  Still need to buy headers for the 'runner.

Jack - I purchased all the forms and filled them out.  I had deleted some of the paragraphs and wording that I felt harmful to my daughter and her affairs, which included life & medical insurance.  Something the soon to be ex doesn't need to be involved with.  She actually had the nerve to borrow $140 from the Princess and "decided" to pay her back by taking her shopping....Bang Head Yes, the Princess and I had a short talk about it and she learned her lesson, albeit very quickly......and it won't happen again.

They did a spot check on me at work, scored a 20 out of 20 which netted me a $50 gift card.  They'll try to catch me again later in the month...and if I pass, another $50.

Off to watch the Devils - Leafs tonight...will check back later.  I'll have to change my avatar tonight, or at least I'll try to.

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

Evening all!

80s here but back to 60s tomorrow. Getting ready to grill some chicken tonight.

Jack Angel

Chief - traveling by air has degraded significantly since the short time ago you cut back and even without the impending TSA cuts coming in April it was getting worse by the week. And airfares are up  significantly. I have a trade show to attend in Las Vegas next week and the ticket is 2X what I paid last year. This is the most I have paid to get to this show in the 10+ years I have had to attend it.

Have a great evening all!

Regards, Roy

Afternoon Break:

Done splitting wood for the day. I am going to rest up, get my school stuff together and have dinner. A burger on the grill will do just nice!

Brent: I will see Joe, The BMW Tech by the weekend. I will message you asap. Our schedules are far apart. BTW, if Matthew was our Grandson, my wife would be spoiling him for sure and Christina would definitely be spoiled already!

Jack, I felt bad and thought back to my youth when you spoke about your Granddaughter before. You handled it well. Continued prayers for the Aunt, you and the family. Congrats on Maximus. Our Mack would have been more interested in making friends and playing.

Kev: Hope everything works out for Ryan. Thanks for passing it on.

Have a Great Day!

Brent repair manuals often are helpful at least a little but often they say something like remove the door panel.

Yes - I just thought about that. I have to do a tune-up soon, and have to replace both front wheel bearings, so I think a Bentley Repair Manual may be in order... and BAVAUTO has mine on sale right now...

Good morning all,

Chief, welcome home.  Glad you survived the Floridians.  This country is not broke.  I think all the money is in Florida at some of those marinas.  Either that or all those boats are in foreclosure.

Jack, condolences on the loss in your family.  Prayer sent.

V8, re dress code in church.  It's no better even in Catholic churches.  I have seen better dressed women on beaches than  a few of them that come to church in short shorts and no shoes, just some kind of sandals.  Our old pastor used to talk about a dress code but the later ones seem too shy to mention it.  If I went to church like some I have seen when I was a kid, my mother would have killed me.  I guess it is the California culture.  Everyone is anonymous and no one cares about what others think but to me it is common sense to show some respect and reverance in church.

Went to train meet yesterday.  Went late and stayed for auction.  Did not buy anything but got a feel for what things are going for.  Friend of mine sold some stuff from his table.  Finally got rid of a kit built model of the Olympian Hiawatha train that he has been hauling to several meets.  Nice train but I have no more room for it myself.  Otherwise, I would have bought it.

Wanted to attend a healing mass yesterday but blew it.  Forgot to look at calendar.  The Lord knows I make some dumb choices sometimes.

Possible rain on the way this week but don't know for sure.  We had planned a get together this week for lunch and running trains but it depends on the weather.

later,

Ray

Jack - TheQ is the title bestowed by Fife. Susan's nickname growing up was SusieQ so TheQ just fit. Since I am subjugated married to her it fits even better. QE isn't MY queen, she is just a lady with a fancy title - as far as I am concerned.

Yes........QS is your queen.  Just don't forget it or subjugated married heads will roll!!!!! Laugh

We are learning that Matthew seems to only take 1 day to develop bad habits, but 6 days to recorrect. Two weekends ago my parents came for a visit and my mother held him quite a bit, Sunday night after they left he was a nightmare!!! Last weekend my older sister came for a visit, she held him quite a bit, and last night he was a nightmare!!! The weekend my little sister and niece are coming for a visit... they will NOT hold him while he is sleeping! I am NOT going through another Sunday night of only 2 hours sleep.

We have the reverse problem here.  We get stuff straightened out in short order with the grandchildren and it is the parents and the other set of grandparents who mess things up again.  Bang HeadSmile, Wink & Grin

Mid midday report. I got the B&S FH carb and Fan cover shipped off and had a nice chat with the woman at the counter at the post office about getting shipping labels on-line for USPS items. I did not know doing it on-line would save you up to 16%. She did say I would need a postal scale and to look for them on-line. I found one for up to 86# for $20.99 delivered. So like dad would say. You got to spend money to make money.

I did get an e-mail from Ryan,, he said hi and in so many words that he is going through some personal issues and stress. So he just did not feel comfortable with posting for a while, knowing there is a rat out there who has nothing better to do that try to drive guys away from the pot that they don’t approve of. I told him that a bad apple doesn’t really spoil the whole lot and I for one hope he will return soon. It is a shame that people do what they do without knowing the pressure or pain they may be causing others while they hold their heads up as if they are better than someone else. I, like most of, have been guilty of actions like this at sometime in our lives. I told him to just forget it and that "most" of us are looking for his speedy return. I wish him well and pray for resolutions for his problems whatever they may be. Angel

The wind has come up here, about 25-30mph and the white caps are rolling on the lake. To be more accurate, big waves out in the deep water and BIG white caps in the shallow areas. Anybody out there has got to be a nut!

I helped my father with his project this morning then we went to the Waffle Shoppe in New Llano for breakfast, so it hasn't been a totally wasted morning.

Good Mornin’ Y’all A’gin from Sunny Taxachusetts,

Reality is just setting in for my 9 year old granddaughter who called to pour out her little heart about the loss of her Great Aunt.  She didn't understand why her prayers for AuntieJ's recovery were not answered.  Why her little brother (my grandson) was taken from us.  Why her (our) dogs Issy and Duke were taken from her/us.  I had to answer in a way she could understand, that God ended her pain and suffering and that she was restored to full health.  That AuntieJ's job here with us was over and that God needed her for help with something else.  That she was singing and dancing with her little brother and the dogs while watching over us.  She didn't seem to like the part about having to wait to see her Auntie again.  Thank you all for your condolences.  They help even me put these things in perspective, especially life's daily challenges that seem to pale in comparison to some of the alternatives.  Carpe diem. Angel

The wife and I ventured North to Maine way-too-early yesterday morning with Maximus to help out with a United Kennel Club canine weight pull match.  My job was to help out with the weight cart control (acting as the brake at the finish line) and placing the 35 pound (and 17.5 pound) cinder blocks on the cart.  The wife was assigned to outfitting and hooking up the participating dogs in their harnesses.  The dogs are segregated into three classes (S-M-L) according to their weight.  They are required to pull the weighted-down wheeled cart on a carpeted surface from a standstill about 20 feet, and they are timed.  The event started with a “fun pull” so that novices and interested parties (like ourselves) could see what this dog sport is all about.

Although most of the novice dogs either would not pull, were totally distracted by the harness and the crowd, or needed a whole lot of (hands-off) encouragement, Maximus needed no such encouragement.  He eagerly put his nose down low and easily pulled 270 pounds or just short of 4X his weight.  And he did so with an impressive time of just 6.59 seconds.  Of course, we were (overly) proud of his performance UNTIL the “real” competitor dogs took the floor.  A 5 pound toy poodle pulled 20X his body weight, the fairest true measure of performance.  And the highest amount pulled by any dog yesterday was nearly 1,600 pounds.  Bet I moved over 2,500 punds of cinder block yesterday.  For some reason unknown to me, I have no aches and pains and hernias to contend with this morning. Whistling

DougM.........I didn’t get home until later last evening and started to look at the first link you provided to the pictures of Chicago history.  I was finishing up page 1 before I became aware there were 53 more pages!!!!  For me (Chicago born and raised), those pics and the descriptives were fascinating.

Folks here in the Northeast seem to have so little knowledge of their own geographic, political, and cultural history.  Start a conversation about other regions of the country and they look at you like you have two heads.  I like to tell the story to these people of Chicago’s Fort Dearborn massacre from 1812, about two centuries after my city here in Taxachusetts was settled and incorporated!!!  “What do you mean the Potowatami Indians wiped out the entire Chicago settlement and burned the Fort to the ground in 1812????” Surprise

BOC......I love your posts because they always put a smile on my face no matter what daily disasters may be present. Thumbs Up

Jeffrey......was glad to hear that your Dad once again came to your rescue and dragged you out of anything productive for yourself. Smile, Wink & Grin

Brent......just drop by your local collision shop and they will be happy to show you how to remove the door panel without destroying the fasteners.  Faster and cheaper than buying a shop manual and figuring it out on your own.  A BMW automotive forum will accomplish the same.  By the way, I was watching some news accounts this morning about Queeen Elizabeth.  The "Q."  No, the other Q.  Her wardrobe has nothing on Christina's. Whistling

Jake......I think you will be very pleased with the 2046 Hudson (and matching tender), both appearance-wise, detail-wise, and performance-wise.  With the engine’s weight/weight distribution, clean track, clean wheels, and rollers, the pulling performance of this postwar steam engine is quite impressive.

SJ......you must have had a ball with your grandsons at the train show.  I wish I had grandsons and could do that. Thumbs Up

Bob.......you are exactly correct.  One of my “protected from the elements” garage spots is indeed occupied by a “real” car, albeit one that needs thousands of dollars to make her "seaworthy" again.

PAT/KEV.......what I would like to know is how the consumer price index is calculated and the items weighted that make up the “shopping cart” of consumer goods and services.  Better yet, what knucklehead out-of-touch bureaucrats comprised the list in the first place.   While we are told that inflation is low (it is not as reported), there is a big disconnect from reality.  The rising cost of food, housing, health care, transportation, and taxes/fees are eating us alive.......

RT.......I hope your back is feeling better and that you can get back in the “work” saddle again soon.  Chief. SJ, Chuck, LAZ, and HudsonJohn need those SS contributions. Whistling

JoeyD........yup, you are now in the home stretch with school.  Just three more months to reach this milestone event and then a whole lot of time will open up for you to spend on the wife’s “honey do” list.  It has been particularly difficult for you because you have been sandwiching in school with career and family with a lot of compromises needed to keep the balance. Thumbs Up

Rich.......if you need any creative writing help with your "papers" let me know.  Would be glad to help. Whistling  Thinking of you, buddy.  Stressful time. Angel

Hope Ryan gets a proper perspective on his positive contributions to the POT (and us) and starts posting again.

FIFE.......Flacco should have bought his Dad a landscaping service, not a freakin' lawn mower. Laugh

Later, gang.

Jack

That older friend must of had some sad life.

Nope not me! Never in my plans to work till I was dead like my old man did. Dead

I agree with SJ, I just wish I was young enough to still be working He did not say he wanted to be working.  Laugh I could be working if I wanted to I guess but I sure don't miss anything about work. I used to love it but as the years went by and I watched the changes and saw how they treat their workers. I would rather be retired anyday. My 2 Cents

We have bright sun and a cold 21 this morning.

Jack condolences to your family.

The old joints are achy this morning but I guess it goes with the age thing. I never thought about these kind of days while working and wishing I was retired. Now I'm retired and wishing I was young enough to still be working.  I'm not sure about plans for today but it could be a stay home one..   S.J.

Good Morning Everyone! It was 26 when I took the Dynamic Duo out for their walk this morning. Now it is 36 and Sunny!

Today it is run a few errands, split some wood and then off to school tonight.

There was some discussion about painting your car here. Another alternative is to check with your local Vocational - Technical School about Night Adult Education Programs. Sign up for a class and do it yourself. You know the quality of the job you have because you did it. Also you will learn what is involved in doing it right and why it costs so much.

Brent: If the door panel still has you stumped, let me know if you want me to ask a friend of mine who is a BMW Tech. His beater is a 5 series. He has worked for them for years.

Roy; The lighting sounds like it was a lot of work but worth it.

Everyone have a Great Day!

Good morning from the cloudy and cool North Bluff above Marseilles.

Got to pack and ship two items from the old Briggs and Stratton engine I am parting out on the bay. After a trip to the post office I don’t have a clue what I will be doing, maybe nothing.

Prairietype I know what you mean. TGIM  Smile, Wink & Grin Wife is back to work. Wink

Jack Prayers are sent. Glad she went in peace.  Angel

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts,

This morning I am asking for your prayers for my son-in-law's Aunt who passed away peacefully in her sleep and left us yesterday afternoon.

Her passing was not unexpected.  She was admitted to an extended care facility one week ago in poor shape after an 18 month battle.  As sad as I and the entire family are at this time, I am saying a prayer of thanks for having had the privilege of knowing her, of sharing many happy family occasions with her, and for all of the wonderful moments and memories she provided to all whose lives she touched.

I will be "on standby" today for any family help I may be able to render as the situations arises. Angel

Aloha. Whilst it's clear for now in Chicago (which is 176 years young today), it looks like more snow tonight. Hope the fridge gets fixed today. Nice TARDIS run with the lads last eve., and also ran Ivor and picked up and repaired a sagging backdrop, some layout items left in the tunnel over Eagles Ridge by the kittens. and placed the four newly painted buildings in Grumbly Town.

Next time you're in Hungary, here's something train-related to visit: http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/zsuzsi-csiszer-passage   Smile

Jack, here's another Chicago photo website to browse: http://themanonfive.com
